The ideal and proper thing to do, if she was the integrity-conscious type, would have been to conduct a proper research on this dude before walking down the aile with him, (and if the allegations are true, STOP THE WEDDING!)...not coming out to announce to the public that the WEDDING MUST GO ON...

You can be sure if the Prince was in Mercy's shoes, and he got to find out that Mercy had a marital relationship somewhere else, he would have long called off the marriage (in the name of tradition)...Anyways, it all goes to show that Mercy knew what she was doing from the beginning...But she should remember that what goes around, must certainly COME AROUND!!!
