Egypt has been a force to re-corn with when it comes to football in Africa. They have one of the best leagues in the continent that have produces  some fine players such as Mohamed Aboutrika, Osama Mohamed, Emad Moteab, Mohamed Fadl, etc. They have won the African Nations Cup for a record 7 times (1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, 2010), carried 2nd once ( 1962), 3rd 3 time (1963, 1970, 1974), and 4th 3 times also (1976, 1980, 1984), they are also ranked the 2nd best African football country.
Despite there credentials, it is unfortunate that they will not be in the 2012 Nations Cup. They lie in the last position in group G of the Nations Cup qualifiers with just 2 points after 5 rounds of matches (just one match left), 6 points behind group leader, South Africa. Their hope died after losing 2:1 to Sierra Leone.
Checkout their results below:

Egypt 1-1 Sierra Leone (5/09/10)

Niger 1-0 Egypt (10/10/10)

South Africa 1-0 Egypt (26/03/11)

Egypt  0-0 South Africa (5/06/11)

Sierra Leone 2-1 Egypt (3/09/11)

Meanwhile countries like Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Uganda, Botswana and the co-hosts of the tournament ( Gabon and Equatorial Guinea) have qualified.
