The Catalan side's CEO has slated the signing of the Swedish striker two summers ago and has also spoken of how he is working to reduce debt at the club.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has labelled the deal that brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Camp Nou in 2009 as "the worst transaction in Barcelona history".

The deal that saw Ibrahimovic join the Catalan outfit from Inter, with Samuel Eto'o going the other way, was reported to have cost the Liga champions €69 million.

Ibrahimovic has since departed the club, joining AC Milan originally on a one-year loan in 2010 before completing a permanent move to the 2010-11 Serie A winners earlier this summer.

Rosell was speaking at the team's general assembly vote on their Qatari shirt deal and, referring to the Ibrahimovic transfer, he told reporters: "It was the worst transaction in the history of Barcelona."

The 47-year-old was also keen to defend the decision to sell Dmytro Chygrynskiy back to Shakthar Donetsk in 2010 because of Barcelona's financial problems at the time.

Rosell stated: "The club had an urgent need to sell [Chygrynskiy]."

Talk then moved on to the five-year sponsorship deal with the Qatar Foundation that is believed to be worth €170m, with Barcelona members given the option to reject the proposal.

"It's a country [Qatar] that have asked us to give them a helping hand to open themselves to the world in return for money," Rosell stated.

"Are we living in the best moment in the history of the club? On a sporting level, without a doubt, but I much prefer to think of it as an historic moment not only for sporting success, but for our values.

"Our values make us different, and we must ensure that this never changes. Titles are important, but values even more so. Even if we lose, the values will continue."

Rosell, who replaced Joan Laporta as Barcelona president in 2010, also spoke of how he has managed to reduce the club's debt since his appointment.

"Since we arrived, debt is gradually going down. We are not at €364 million and it is expected that next season, it will be down to €338 million," he added.

And Giving Out Samuel Eto'o Was The Best Mistake. LOL
