The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has said that electricity supply in Asaba, Delta State and its environs will remain epileptic in spite of improvement in power generation in the country.
Mr Edwin Okwara, the Business Manager of Asaba District, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba.
He said that demand for electricity in the area had continued to rise but expressed regrets that supply from the national grid had remained static over many years.
He said that the only way the company was tackling the problem was load-shedding, which, he disclosed, would continue “and may come to a period when we shall limit supply to once a week”.
Okwarasaid that communities adversely affected by the situation included Ibusa, Okpanam and Illah.
“Asaba,as the state capital, is growing fast. But for more than 33 years, it has depended on Obosi, in Anambra State for its only source of electricity supply.
``The limited supply of 22 megawatts from Obosi, as against the more than 100 megawatts needed daily in the district has created a big task, sharing the available power.
``The Federal Government is doing well in terms of improving the power generation in the country but even at that, the situation will not improve in the district until we have another step down,’’ he said.
He called on the government to provide additional step down in the district to enable the people benefit from the increasing electricity supply arising from increase in power generation nationwide.
He, however, urged the people to report any noticeable fault and help to secure PHCN facilities in their areas to avoid permanent power outage.
