In Nigeria its common to beat your children when they step out of line, I’d go as far as saying it’s the number one disciplinary option.

Its just those parents who overdo it and actually really abuse their children that may eventually have an adverse effect on the child in the future.

It's hard to say what the effects would be psychologically for the child in later years but thats with parenting in general I think.
 so what do u think???

Ps.: I got a lil boy too and i never beat him - and hes behaving fine - doin great in school and learning his lessons with other types of punishment like no tv for a week or two ,....
hes a halfcast and everybody know s halfcasts got a bigger dickhead and more power for their stubborness
than other kids do....

I quite agree with you, in Africa beating of their children is the number one punishment, but some parents tend to over do it which makes the child more sturborn, feeling that the worst that can happen will be for him/her to be beaten, and it affects some children psychologically later in life.

Parents do take it too far. It makes a child shy, mistrust of people and fearful. I was hit as a child and it does have effects on you, (both psychologically and emotionally). It runs really deep. Til this day, if I'm standing close to somebody and they raise their hand, I still flinch. It's like always expecting to be hit.
