Following the mass failure among Senior Secondary School (SSS) 2 students in their promotion examination, the Kwara State government says it will re-appraise teachers in the affected schools as part of measures to address the educational development in the state.

It will be recalled that 13,000 students, about 42 per cent of the total 31,590 candidates who sat for this year’s SS2 promotion examination are expected to repeat the class as part of the resolve of the the state government to improve the quality of education.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Ilorin, at the weekend, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Mohammed Raji, said teachers had roles in students’ failure and that the government was determined to know the involvement of teachers in the development.

The commissioner, who said it was an additional burden on the government for students to repeat classes, added that parents and students in affected schools had been summoned to the meeting which aimed at enabling them not to see repetition as a punitive measure.

He also said the government had decided to organise special coaching classes for students to address the situation, saying that all the stakeholders in education had failed.

Speaking on the destruction of school property by hoodlums over the mass failure of the students in Ilorin, the commissioner said the situation was under control, adding that the hoodlums only attempted to use innocent students to cause damage under the guise of a protest, particularly with the type of weapons used.

Hoodlums had reportedly used some senior secondary school (SS) students in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a protest to vandalise school properties and attack some teachers.

They should act fast cos that state is very close to the North and very easy to be penetrated by the Boko Haram schools called ALMAJIRI, by then Mass failure will be part of normal educational culture there.
