A hunter, Ajani Moshood, has said he shot a colleague, Amusan Hammed, to death in error. “I thought it was an antelope, I aimed at it and fired a shot but I didn't know I had killed a colleague in the process,” Moshood said. Moshood, 57, allegedly shot 46-year-old Hammed during a hunting expedition in Mokore farm settlement of Orile-Owu, Osun State. The incident, which occurred last Sunday, threw Orile-Owu community into pandemonium as youths took to the streets protesting the killing. The youth stormed the Apena compound, where the suspect hails from, and ransacked his apartment.
Moshood, who went to Orile-Owu Police Station to report the incident, pleaded that his action was not intentional. Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Solomon Olusegun, confirmed the incident on Wednesday during a telephone interview with our correspondent. “Some people went hunting. One of them mistook another hunter for an antelope and shot at him. The victim died instantly. We are investigating the incident,” Olusegun said. It was gathered that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, for an autopsy.
