Childhood Friend Donates Liver to Abidal

A childhood friend of Eric Abidal is willing to
act as a donor for the Barcelona defender's
upcoming liver transplant.
It was announced last Thursday that the
France international, who had a tumour on
his liver removed last year, must go under
the knife once again.
According to ABC, a long-time acquaintance
with the same blood type as Abidal has now
come forward to offer the 32-year-old full-
back part of his liver for the essential
procedure.
The paper also claims that there are serious
concerns over whether the player, who
recently signed a contract extension with
the Blaugrana, will ever return to
competitive football.
Abidal, who has been capped 61 times by
his country, made a recovery from the
surgery he underwent last March and
played his part in Barca's Champions League
final win over Manchester United.
