There were times in the history of British English when grammatical sentimentalism reigned. It is the language of highly educated illiterates that evolves out of the timidity of a man's mind. Unfortunately such illiterate, uncultured minds of the past centuries like that of Mr. Obahiagbonof still rule in places like Nigeria due to the high level of illiteracy and the distance of people to civilization.
