It is opined that extravagance is the luxury of the rich; penury is the luxury of the poor. This statement is apt in the lives of several Nigerian artistes who tend to show off their ‘wealth’ in a bid to constantly remain on the public eye for as long as possible. It has also been said that all decent people live beyond their incomes nowadays, and those who aren’t respectable live beyond other people. A few gifted individuals manage to do both.

It is a good thing obviously to enjoy the works of your hand, however with moderation. Recently, the media, blogs, websites, etc. have been eroded with stories, articles, news centered on some activities of some artistes, though in different dimensions. We had D’banj ‘suit of money’; Wizkid purchasing a new Porsche; Don Jazzy feeling cool with the most expensive wine ever; OJB having kidney issues, etc.



It’s a good thing to enjoy your money especially after working so hard to earn them but there is certainly what is called simplicity. But just as Coco Chanel opined “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.”
International superstar, entertainer and Oliver Twist crooner, Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj is never far away from making huge statements and breaking new grounds in terms of how he appears. He is a disciple of the popular saying that “you are addressed the way you are dressed”. He takes particular interest in how he looks and this obviously was an important factor in his decision to dress expensively.

In a recent newspaper interview, he confirmed he wears the same wristwatch as American rapper Jay-Z, valued at $50,000. D’banj has continued to rise in stardom despite his split from erstwhile partner and friend, Don Jazzy. He has continued to command huge sums of money in endorsements, appearances and performances thus still making him the highest earning Nigerian artiste of all time. D’banj is by no mean standard a classy entertainer, always on point, dapper and smoking hot! His sense of fashion in the Nigeria entertainment industry is almost second to none and doesn’t disappoint.\

His much talked about DKM concert held recently at the Eko  Hotel & Suites was the perfect avenue to show the world his latest fashion sense. He showed off his much talked about “Suit of Money“. It was designed by the famous Okunoren Twins. It was made of actual $100 bills and cost a whopping $25,000. You can convert that on your own!

It was entirely sewn by hand in London but was then taken to Italy for the specialised Milanese buttonholes to be done at the same factory used by Tom Ford. The thinking is that, it’s not proper to debase a currency the way Eja Nla did with the dollar notes, even with a Nigerian Naira. Agreed, he can spend his money the way he wants, he worked hard for it, but by being simple and modest, the dressing will be well appreciated.

The world most powerful president, Barack Obama, in all his presidential elegance would never ridicule the dollar note the way D’banj did. D’banj should be more objective, do good music, and leave all the idle propaganda for the less successful artistes in the industry. Nice suit, anyway!

Wizkid is a talented young artiste and he is the golden boy of the music industry alongside Davido. He recently crashed his N15million Porsche Panamera and within two weeks, replaced the car with another Porsche Panamera. He said he had no means of transportation except with cabs and of course, it is his money and he can do as he wished. No doubt about that but he should show modesty and simplicity. He is still very young and has a very bright future ahead of him. He should use this golden opportunity he has right now to invest in profitable business to secure his future. He probably won’t sing for life and will have to fall back on something for survival. A miser grows rich by seeming poor; an extravagant man grows poor by seeming rich.

Commenting on the design, Alexander Amosu said, “The bottle already has a distinctive look with its natural design; all I had to do is bring it to the next level of ultimate luxury.” The Goût de Diamants (Taste of Diamonds) everyday bottles are hand-finished by a single craftsman with over 40 years’ experience. There are millions of hungry children out there in the wilderness looking for succour. With the grace of God who has made these artistes very successful, should learn to plough back to the society that made them. Sponsoring indigent students in schools; empowering the youths will go a very long way to eradicate the poverty in Nigeria. The amount spent on these luxuries is more than enough to cater for so many helpless children. It could be recalled that the social media was eroded with the calls for OJB kidney transplant. Fans were shocked at the nonchalant attitude of music stars that were expected to rise up in unison and help raise cash. Some did after so much pressure from fans while a host of them didn’t. This is not to say OJB didn’t plan for himself. He had spent so much on treating himself while his musical career suffered.

If it were to buy the latest cars, clothes, travel around the world, party heavily, they wouldn’t hesitate to spend money, but to assist a fellow in need always takes time. There is the need for our stars to have a change of mind and always be willing to help people genuinely. Yes, they are making the money now, are they planning for the dry seasons? Many people believe that the life of a famous musician is all champagne, Lear jets and a steady flow of royalty payments to pay for it all.

This is certainly true for some, but there are also those who have reached the upper echelons of mega stardom, only to lose it all in the blink of an eye. Some managed their money badly. So Tuface recently got chatting with TheNetNg, his very first official interview since his much celebrated wedding to actress Annie Uwana Macaulay.

And in it, he got to talk about his marriage to Annie, his current relationship with his two other baby mamas. His biggest worry during his Dubai wedding to Annie, and how handy a dad he is to his kids.

    At the launch of this year’s Star Trek Concert, on stage you said marriage hasn’t changed you. Hasn’t marriage changed 2face?

Actually it’s the aspect of me being a jolly good fellow that I meant by marriage hasn’t changed me but at least it changed me in the way that now I get to be more responsible, because it is a serious business, it’s not when I was a bachelor that I could just decide after a show to just chill in an hotel and sleep. There was one time that I even made up my mind that I wasn’t getting married.

    So what brought about the change of mind?

I realise say I dey mumu myself (laughs). If you see the person you no fit run from am you go like am die so why you dey run.

    So how often do you keep in touch with your other baby mamas?

As often as necessary.

    But you love children, right?

I often wish it didn’t happen this way, but I can’t regret or make myself feel bad for what has happened. I wish it was different, and I wish I could wake up every morning and see all of them but that’s not the case right now. It’s not easy shuffling here and there to see them. Sometimes for weeks or months I don’t see them. Its not easy but as you lay your bed, so you will lie on it.

    Your wedding was probably the biggest wedding that happened in the last decade or two, did you plan this right from the very go?

The funny thing is, that was the total opposite of what I planned to do. My wife and I actually wanted a quiet and peaceful wedding but unfortunately for Innocent Idibia, 2Face interfered (laughs). 2face and Annie Macaulay now interfered in Innocent and Uwana’s wedding. So, unfortunately when they say we no fit hide, yes we no fit hide. I actually thought I was going to succeed in making it quiet and doing my thing peacefully but as it turned out the people no send me for that matter

    So when all that noise was happening, what was your biggest concern?

My biggest concern was that this was a serious occasion for me and I hope nobody is going to come and trivialise it and try to turn it into a bad thing, you understand. Marriage is a joyous thing but some people could turn it into topic of the day that people will then insult you saying different things. That was my biggest concern, for people to just respect it and know it’s a serious occasion for me and my wife, and not turn it into any debate society topic.

    A lot of people said that Annie was the one behind it that she wanted a grand wedding after you had a little one?

They will always say that about the woman. Naturally, they decide everything and so it is natural for people to assume that. It definitely wasn’t going to be a tiny wedding but something not too grand.  If they say Annie wanted it to be grand, it’s not true because we already had our plan, budget and the number of people we were going to invite. It just happened that the number quadrupled, I mean even ten times the amount of people we prepared for.

    I see you wearing your wedding band. How does that feel?

(Laughs) o boy, you know how many times I don forget am for house? Dem go con carry am come meet me bros see your wedding ring. Sometimes I’m somewhere and I don’t even think about it and then someone makes a comment about and I realise I’m wearing it. It feels good honestly especially if it’s with somebody that you actually know and understand. Somebody that you are comfortable being around.

    Concerning your former relationships with the other women, what was the most important advice that your parents gave you?

The most important advice they gave me were just two words; ‘be careful’. Be careful in all aspects, be careful not to impregnate anyone, be careful not to mislead anyone that will now turn to a bone in your neck.  So many ‘be carefuls’, and that covers all. They also told me; search deep inside your heart to know the one that truly is right for you and when you do that, go for that person and don’t let the person slip away again.

    Before, you used to wake up as a bachelor, but now it is with someone beside you.  How do you work around everything with your daughter Isabella having to go to school. Do you drive her to school or help her with her homework  and also help out in the kitchen?

Like I said earlier I wish I had more time and opportunities to hang out with my kids. I really do wish I had more time but unfortunately you know because of what I do it’s not always easy, but I try as much as possible to make out time. When I’m around I try as much as possible to be in that part of her life.

    How was the feeling like when you went back for parental approval?

It was excitement but excitement with no surprise. They were excited that we had finally decided to make it official, but they were not surprised because they knew we had been together for a long time although we frequently broke-up and made-up.  So, it was excitement without surprise.

After he refused to exercise his swap privilege as Head of House, thereby putting himself up for eviction come this Sunday, Melvin took time to explain to Big Brother why he had to make that choice.
And what he thinks will happen to him if he gets evicted.

Here’s what he told Biggie:

    I’m fine. I’m ok. I’m doing well.. It was a difficult decision to make yesterday. I would have wanted to save myself but I couldn’t come up with a name last night.

    This is the first time housemates are nominating me, I just had to do it, Biggie.

    I have made the decision now, I just have to be optimistic that Africa will keep me in the game.  I don’t know what Africa thinks about me, though I try my best to make sure I’m pleasing Africa.

     If I get evicted, Biggie but God forbid, my country people will insult me and kill me! This gamble is a rough one, Biggie.

     If I get saved come Sunday, I’ll be happy. I can also say, I left my name there to see what Africa thinks about me.

     I become too emotional a times. And Biggie, you always hurry me up and warn me during the swap. So I had to leave my name.

    Truthfully speaking, this swapping is the part of the HOH that kills me and fixes me up.

The son of the General-Superintendent of Deeper Life, Pastor William Kumuyi, was suspended after his wife wore a wedding dress the church termed ‘inappropriate’. If you missed it, read the story here

Church leaders are now reacting to the suspension of John and Love Kumuyi, calling it hypocritical. The General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare said:

    “I personally did not see what they have done wrong. A man is entitled to his own authority in his own home.1st Peter Chapter 3. A wife should dress to please the husband and not the members of the church or public. It’s sheer wickedness to the couple, they should leave them to enjoy their honeymoon. They should not squeeze them to the modus operandi of a particular organization. I did not see anything wrong in the wedding. The bride was not naked or dressed inappropriately and  the groom didn’t. Esther the queen was beautifully dressed in the bible to gain the king’s attention. They should not make mountain out of a molehill. I was in the Deeper Life Bible Church for five years and nobody compelled me to dress the way I dressed. My wife was with me in the church though we weren’t married then. She wears earrings and dresses nicely. All this talk about this couple should stop.”

The General Overseer of the Royal Family Life Ministry, Pastor Sam Segun-Progress said:

    “Dressing in any way does not affect the faith of any individual. Putting on earrings and making up do not by any way mean sinful acts. It’s not against Christian faith to dress the way the woman dressed. But it was actually against the doctrine of Deeper Life Bible Church, and since the church is not the Kingdom of God, the couple should be allowed to do that which pleases them and their belief.”

    “There is no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. For any church leader to condemn a member contravenes the standard of the scripture, which is the symbol of our Christian faith. The doctrine of any church has nothing to do with the kingdom of God. Every individual should be allowed to do that which pleases his faith.

    “I would have appreciated it better if this affected couple were just disciplined within the church and were not suspended. The suspension of the two notable members of the church is capable of sending them out of the church and Christianity totally.

    “All I can deduce from what happened in the Deeper Life Bible Church is hypocrisy and this is not too good for our churches and the church leaders. I will urge the leadership of Deeper Life Bible Church to read the book of Exodus and see what God says about hypocrisy. The development in the church was a bad omen for the body of Christ and did not portray the church well before the public, especially the non-Christians.”

Nollywood actress, Liz Da Silva who gave birth some weeks back has converted from Christianity to Islam and changed her name to Aishat Olaoye. And this she says she did so her new baby can be named.

Since Liz put to bed, there have been insinuations that serial husband and motor Park President MC Oluomo is her baby daddy.
But in a recent interview with City people, Liz explained why she had to do the name change, even though she isn’t married to her baby’s daddy, and why she ain’t talking or ever going to reveal who her baby daddy is.

     So is the next step now marriage since you already have a child out of wedlock?

I will always say, fingers are not equal, if marriage comes, I will surely embrace it but now I am not after marriage. If it comes, fine because every woman wants to be married.

     Is the father of your baby the man you once had an introduction with?

I never had any introduction or anything with anybody; fine I have people I have dated but not marriage. You see I was in a relationship and planned on settling down but it didn’t work. People plan and  it doesn’t work, you let it go and move on. So if you are talking about it there father of my baby is the man I was planning to get married to, he is not.

     So who is the father of your baby?

 I am not ready to disclose the father of my baby, my relationship or love affair but it is not possible for me not to have someone, at least I am old enough. I don’t have any business with anybody, their business should be me, I am the focus here, I brought myself to the world in 2004 when I joined the movie industry, the father of my child is not their problem. So people should leave him alone. If they have any problem, they should deal with me. Why are they after the father of my baby? I have not gone to anybody to beg for the child’s upkeep so what is their business?

     Don’t you think it will be wise to just tell us who the father of the baby is because several names have been mentioned including MC Oluomo?

 Let them talk, it is normal. Even when I tell them the truth, they will talk so let them talk. I am not bothered. Is it possible for me not to know the father of my baby? I have intentionally kept quite all along because I just didn’t want to talk. My baby and my baby’s father shouldn’t be their problem. I know the father of my baby and he was present at the naming. I have a baby father, period. No matter how long you persuade I am not ready to disclose his identity. Incase you want to know I have a good relationship with my baby’s father and that is why I had to convert to Muslim and got a new name aishat before they baby was named. I am a Christian, but I had to convert to Islam because of my baby. If not my child will not be named. It was done on Sunday before the naming. I am now aisha…. Not ready to disclose the other name. (Laughs)

     So that means you are married to the father of your son? For you to have changed your name and add his surname?

I am not married properly, don’t get me wrong. What I did is a religious rite that needed to be done before the child could be named. The father is a Muslim. I will inform you when I want to get married.

    From what you have said the father of you baby is a Muslim, and looking back, the only Muslim man you have linked with is MC Oluomo, does that means he is the father?

 (Laughs). My child is not for MC Oluomo, but MC is a man I will always respect. I can say it anywhere because he stood by me when I needed him, but he is not the father of my child, that I can say.
