Cesc Fabregas has been soaking up the sun in Miami this week as he enjoys a short end of season break before linking up with the Spain squad for Euro 2016.

The midfielder was snapped chilling out poolside with girlfriend Danielle Semaan, 41, four days after Chelsea's final match of the season.

Fabregas, 29, was on Tuesday included in Spain's squad for next month's European Championship in France.

And he's clearly doing his utmost to keep his good end of season form, as he was spotted playing football in the swimming pool
The couple were joined by their two young children, Lia, two, and Capri, 10 months, as they soaked up the sun.

Fabregas and Spain are gunning to win a third consecutive European Championship after lifting the trophy in 2008 and 2012.

They get their campaign underway against the Czech Republic on Monday 13 June.

Fabregas is joined in the squad by Chelsea teammates Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta, but there's no room in Vicente del Bosque's set-up for Diego Costa or former Blues star Juan Mata.

40571  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / FG Honours Nigerian Doctor, Victor Olalusi Who Scored 5.0 CGPA From A Russia University on: 19-05-2016 08:23 AM

The Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday in Abuja honoured Dr Victor Olalusi who scored 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow (RNRMU) in 2013, arguably the first in the world.

Olalusi, who was the best graduating student in the whole Russian Federation in 2013, studied in RNRMU under the Russia-Nigeria Bilateral Education Agreement.
Olalusi previously had the best WAEC result in 2004, First Class Architecture (FUTA) -2005. JAMB Best Science Student (JAMB score 322) – 2006. Cowbell Prize Award – 2006. Medicine First Merit list (OAU) – 2006. Highest OAU Post UME (score – 325) – 2006.
Speaking at the event, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry said a lot of Nigerian students were brilliant but Olalusi was a genius.
He said Olalusi had become an ambassador not only to the ministry but to Nigeria and Russia.

“We have to search the Guinness Book of Records for anybody who has achieved 5.0 in a university. It is curious and strange that all those that evaluated his performance could not find reason to reduce a point from him.
“You should be the ambassador of the Federal Scholarship Board, Ministry of Education, Nigeria and the Russian Federation.

“I look forward to the day you will stand before the President to receive your honour. We have recommendations to that effect, ’’ Nwaobiala said.
He then urged Olalusi to continue to be a role model to young Nigerians and also called on him to explore opportunities in post graduate research.
In her speech, Mrs Ifeoma Agunwa, the Director, Federal Scholarship Board, said Olalusi made 5.0 GPA in all the courses he took in the seven years he studied Medicine in Russia.

She said “Olalusi never had a 4.99 GPA. Even in the Russian language class, he did not fall below 5.0.’’
In her citation on Olalusi, Agunwa said he ranked as one of the best students in the faculty which handed him a place in RNRMU’s Hall of fame for academic excellence.

She said that Olalusi had registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and had the compulsory one-year housemanship training at State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State.
According to her, he is presently going through the compulsory National Youth Service scheme in Rivers.
Mr Artem Romanov, who represented the Russian Embassy, said that Olalusi’s feat was very significant for everybody in Russia.
Romanov said “Nigeria is blessed with abundant human potential which is officially acknowledged in Russia.

“It has been acknowledged in the Russian Ministry of Education that Nigerians have a lot of exceptional talents. Genetically, Nigerians grasp knowledge easily.
“Olalusi is a hardworking person. It is not easy to achieve such in Russia; it goes with talent and hard work.

“I urge you to engage your knowledge in the development of your father land.’’
While showing his appreciation, Olalusi thanked God for his rare feat and also commended the Federal Government and the Scholarship Board for the opportunity given to young Nigerians to distinguish themselves.
Mr Olarewaju Olalusi, the father of Olalusi, said that his son’s achievement was as a result of hard work.

Olalusi said his son did not attend high class schools but normal public schools which spoke volumes of the standard of education in Nigeria.
He then urged parents to monitor their wards closely and make sure they were not distracted from their studies.
40572  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Hike In Fuel Price: Its Not About Subsidy Removal, Nigeria is Broke - Lai Mohammed on: 19-05-2016 08:07 AM

The Federal Government has said it increased the price of petrol to raise money to run the system, since the country was broke. Government said Nigeria’s foreign earnings had drastically reduced in recent times and that the only way out of its present financial quagmire was to look inwards to generate more money. Information Minister, Mr. Lai Mohammed, stated these while briefing newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting, chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday.

Lai-Mohammed

Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/increased-fuel-price-nigerias-broke-lai-mohammed/

Also at the briefing were Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and Labour Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige. Mr. Lai Mohammed said: “The current problem is not really about subsidy removal. It is about the fact that Nigeria is broke. Pure and simple. “It is like when somebody who has been earning N100,000 a month is faced with a situation where his employer says, henceforth you will be earning N10,000 a month. He would need to make some very painful decisions and some very painful adjustments. That is the situation with Nigeria today.” Also speaking, Dr. Ngige denied allegations that government was encouraging labour factionalisation by negotiating with both Ayuba Wabba and Joe Ajaero factions at separate meetings to forestall the strike. Ngige said the door is still open for talks with the Federal Government, noting that “we are ready to discuss with anybody, even civil society groups. As a government, we will not encourage factionalisation.” Similarly, Malami faulted the criticisms arising from the Federal Government’s legal approach for injunction against the industrial action, saying it was necessary, especially as NLC did not give the government the constitutional 15 days notice. On the waiver granted Dangote Group for the construction of a section of Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba-Ilorin Road, specifically the section between Obajana-Kabba Road, Mr. Fashola said the road was important for the infrastructure development of the country. He said: “Companies are ordinarily supposed to pay income tax. There are existing policies in our laws which enable government to consider and give tax incentives. “Council considered and approved the proposal for Dangote Construction Company to build that section of the road because the tonnage of cement being produced from the factory has increased and the traffic in that area has increased; there has been unfortunate accidents also.”
40573  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / PayPal Now In Nigeria This Is How To Open The Account on: 19-05-2016 07:54 AM

Nairametrics has received emails from subscribers wanting to know if PayPal is in Nigeria and how to set it up. Some actually have PayPal accounts abroad and will like to send money from Nigeria to their PayPal account abroad. So here it goes.

PayPal is the world’s number one online money transfer platform and is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide to send and receive money. For years, PayPal had basically shut Nigeria out due to our notoriety for Internet-related fraud. As fraud detection techniques improved as well as Nigeria’s notion as the largest economy in Africa, PayPal has now lifted restrictions on Nigeria. Owning a PayPal account is quite simple and you can do that in two ways.

PayPal website

First thing you do is to go to www.paypal.com/ng

1. Click on signup…select personal or business

Personal will be for your personal debit card and business is for your company debit card (if you have one). I suggest you click personal if this is your first time.

2. After selecting personal, click continue…you should see “Nigeria” in the drop down area, your email address and password.

3. Fill in your email address (doesn’t have to be Gmail or yahoo. It could be @yourcompanyname)

4. Type in your password and make sure it is one you can remember

5. Go to the next page and type other details such as names, date of birth, address and phone number.
Also when filling in your address, make sure that it matches the same address details you filled when you opened a bank account

6. It takes you to a page where you fill in your debit card details

7.Type in your card number, expiry date and the last three digits behind your debit card.

8. Go to your email account and click on verify

Voila!! Your account is set up

9. Test it by sending $10 to anyone or to your PayPal account abroad (if you have one)
You get debited in naira and you should get an alert from your local bank

Using a wallet

First Bank offers this option through their exclusive deal with PayPal. How does this work?

1. Simply login in to your Internet banking account using your password and token
2. Choose the “PayPal wallet” in the main tab and click “create PayPal wallet” on the drop down menu
3. Select which cards you wish to link to your PayPal account and which card will be the default card. Try using one card for easy reconciliation
4. Press the button on your online token and confirm accordingly
5. Create a password in the pop up window that appears
6. Click on “agree and create account”.
7. Go to your registered email account with the bank which confirms that you have created a PayPal account

I performed the above steps and opened a PayPal account using my Zenith Bank master card so it is pretty simple. To test it, I also then used the new PayPal account I linked to my Zenith Master Card and transferred $10 to a PayPal account I set up years ago (when PayPal was not in Nigeria) using a Bank of America card. My Zenith Bank account was debited N2, 786. 56; this implies an exchange rate of N278.6. Note that the official exchange rate is about N198 while the black market rate is about N306. So don’t expect the bank to use the official rate. This of course is due to the currency crisis Nigeria is currently experiencing. It is also important to note that restrictions still apply on your transfers as such you may not be able to transfer more than $500 at a time.
40574  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / OH NO!!! How A Female Kidnapper Disguised As A Customer Abducted A year Old Girl In Lagos on: 19-05-2016 07:45 AM

A woman, identified only as Mama Oyin, has allegedly abducted a one-year-old girl, Fehintola Lawal, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.

GISTMANIA learnt that Mama Oyin, who disguised as a customer, had on Saturday said she was willing to buy some items from Fehintola’s mother and grandmother, who were retailers in a shop in the Abule Egba area.

Our correspondent gathered that the items were not available in the shop.

Mama Oyin was said to have returned on Monday around 11am to the shop, and reportedly begged for direction to where she could buy the items in Agege.

It was learnt that Fehintola’s mother, Lola Lawal, had offered to go with Mama Oyin, who was said to be a friendly customer.

GISTMANIA learnt that while Mama Oyin and Lola were about leaving, Fehintola fell asleep and the customer was said to have requested to strap her (Fehintola) to her back, while she (Mama Oyin) handed over her bag to Lola.

Our correspondent gathered that the women boarded a tricycle to Abattoir Junction, after which they took a commercial motorcycle to Oko Oba, Agege.

It was learnt that when they alighted, they took separate motorcycles to the place where the items were said to be sold. It was gathered that when the motorcycles got to Olaniyi Street, the one boarded by Mama Oyin diverted to another street.

GISTMANIA learnt that as  the girl’s mother tried to pursue the customer, her motorcycle was said to have sped back to the Abule Egba Road, where she hurriedly crossed the road and took a tricycle.

Our correspondent gathered that since Monday, Mama Oyin and Fehintola had not been seen.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Abattoir and Elere divisions the same day.

Speaking with GISTMANIA, Fehintola’s aunt, Lolade Oseni, said the bag Mama Oyin dropped with Lola was later discovered to contain papers cut to currency sizes packed into envelopes, adding that the phone numbers she gave them did not connect.

She said, “This woman met Lola on Saturday. She said she wanted to buy souvenirs, adding that she could also be supplying us goods. She said she was new to the area.

“Fehintola’s mother, Lola, and my own mother welcomed the customer. She played with them on Saturday before leaving for her supposed house. On Sunday, she came again and went with my mother to church, claiming that her church was far.  She came to our house on Sunday.

“On Monday, she came again, saying she needed the souvenirs urgently. Mama and Fehintola’s mother offered to go to Agege with the woman to get the items. The girl became asleep while they were trying to board a tricycle. It was then that the woman offered to put Fehintola on her back.

“When they alighted, they took motorcycles and then another motorcycle. Later, they took separate motorcycles. That was when the woman escaped with Fehintola. The girl’s mother is distraught at the moment. We searched the bag Mama Oyin gave us and discovered that it contained papers, not money. The phone number she claimed to be using has not rung.”

Our correspondent gathered that the matter had also been reported at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, and the office of the Police Public Relations Department, Ikeja.

Another family source said, “Mama Oyin also gave her name as Bisi. We did not suspect anything when she came to our house on Saturday. As of the time she escaped with the girl, she wore black and white dotted blouse and wrapper. The phone number – 08082629509 – which she gave us has not been going since the incident.

“When the girl’s mother ran back to the Abule Egba Road, some pedestrians confirmed that they saw a woman cross the road with a girl and board a tricycle. We believe the police can help to rescue our girl. We are all depressed at the moment.”

Our correspondent learnt that the family members planned to visit the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday (today) to extend their search for the girl.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She added that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
40575  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / How I Slept With Over 400 Men In Less Than 5 Months - Victim Narrates Her Gory Ordeal on: 19-05-2016 07:38 AM

A human trafficking victim, Love John, says she slept with more than 400 men in less than five months in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.

Love, 22, and her 23-year-old sister, Happiness, were lured into prostitution sometime in January by their eldest sister, Mary.

Mary also tricked a cousin, Joy Lawrence, 25, promising the three ladies that she could give them jobs that would help them make a decent living.

However, by the time they discovered that they had been trafficked, the victims said they had become trapped.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Lawrence and another victim fled the hotel on Monday when they could no longer bear the pain they were subjected to.

Lawrence was reported to have been brought to the Lagos zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, which then stormed the hotel and rescued other victims.

The agency also arrested Mary and the owner of the hotel, one Mrs. Akpojaro Rose, an indigene of Warri, Delta State.

It was learnt that the ladies collected between N500 and N700 per sex, paid N200 per day for hotel rates, and made about N340,000 in savings within the period.

Narrating her ordeal, Love told our correspondent she did not have any formal education because their father died when they were toddlers.

She explained that her sister lured her into prostitution, saying she slept with an average of four men a day.

She said, “I was learning tailoring in the village. My sister told me she could help me get a job in Lagos; she didn’t tell me that it was prostitution I was coming to do. After we got to Lagos, she said we should do this (prostitution) job so we can make money to be able to finish my craft as a tailor. I sleep with about four men in a day and each of them pay me at least N500.”

Her elder sister, Happiness, also said she was not aware she had been trafficked until she arrived in Lagos and was introduced to prostitution.

“I didn’t go to school and I have not learnt any trade. I came to Lagos a few months ago. My sister didn’t tell me this was what I was coming to do in Lagos. She said it was a good job,” she said.

Lawrence, who fled the hotel on Monday, said she was told she would be trading when she left their hometown in Ogoja, Cross River State.

“I ran away because I didn’t like the work. I don’t want to do it again. I never knew this was the job,” the victim said.

But Mary said she did not want to bring her relatives into the trade, adding that she gave in to pressure when they kept asking her to take them to Lagos.

She said, “I came to Lagos with a friend in 2014 and my friend introduced me to this job. We were first using a hotel called Happiness Hotel before we moved to Morning Star Hotel in Sango Ota.

“When I travelled to the village, my sisters started disturbing me that they wanted to follow me to Lagos to go and work.

“When they continued to disturb me, I decided to take them with me; but I didn’t tell them I was into prostitution. I told my mother I was working in a beer parlour.

“Each of us makes N2,500 to N3,000 daily. We sleep with an average of three to four men and they pay between N500 and N700.”

The 32-year-old said from January till May 16 when they were arrested, she had saved N340,000 for the three girls.

She, however, alleged that the hotel was raided by some policemen from the Sango Ota division, whom they settled with N150,000.

The owner of the hotel, Rose, told PUNCH Metro  that she gave out rooms to the girls at the rate of N200 per day.

“I warned Mary that the girls were too young, but she didn’t listen to me. I have 15 rooms in my hotel and I have seven girls, who were paying me N200 every day. If I had children of their age, I will not allow them do this,” she said.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Musa Maza, who handed over the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters, said the suspects would be prosecuted at the end of investigations.

He said, “This is a human trafficking case in the form of enslavement and prostitution. The victims were forced into sex against their wish. Two of them actually escaped. The whereabouts of one is unknown, but the second victim contacted someone who brought her to the immigration office.

“Parents should be vigilant and wary of those who come for their children asking them to be released in search of greener pastures. We are handing them over to NAPTIP for prosecution. We believe this will serve as a deterrent to those that will want to engage in this useless business.”
40576  Forum / Sports / OMG!!! Speeding Truck Crushes An 'Agbero' Fighting With Friend Over Unpaid Debt At Berger on: 19-05-2016 07:32 AM

A speeding truck crushed a motor park boy, popularly called agbero, to death on Wednesday at the Berger bus stop, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was learnt that the deceased, identified simply as Agba Akin, had lent a friend some money which the friend, Jimoh, had yet to repay.

Jimoh, a commercial driver shuttling between Ketu and Mowe, was said to have slowed down to pick passengers at the bus stop when the deceased rushed to his side and struggled for the steering with him (Jimoh), insisting that the money should be paid on the spot.

PUNCH Metro gathered that as Jimoh sped off to evade the payment, Agba Akin lost his balance and veered into the path of an oncoming truck which smashed his head.

When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the accident, distraught friends of Agba Akin were about to leave on a bus, vowing to track down Jimoh and the hit-and-run truck driver.

Blood and effects of the deceased were seen by the roadside, while his corpse was said to have been deposited in a morgue by the police.

One of the deceased’s friends, who identified himself only as Sedo, said, Agba Akin had been pestering Jimoh to pay the debt for some time but the latter refused.

Sedo, who spoke in Yoruba, said, “I don’t know the exact amount of the debt, but Agba Akin had been asking Jimoh to pay his money for some time. They are both from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

“Around 2.30pm today (Wednesday), he saw Jimoh with some money and struggled to collect it from him. Jimoh zoomed off, but he tried to pursue him. Agba Akin lost balance and the truck knocked him down. It crushed his head and he died on the spot.”

Another eyewitness said one of the policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad escorted those who took Agba Akin’s corpse to the mortuary.

“The truck driver did not wait. Everybody was scared to move near the corpse because it was very gory. It was a policeman and some of the deceased’s friends that removed his body and took it to the mortuary,” he added.

A source in RRS confirmed the eyewitnesses’ account, adding that the police were on the trail of the fleeing driver and the deceased’s friend.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, promised to get back with comments on the incident.

EgyptAir MS804 from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board,(56 passengers and 10 crews) has just been declared missing by the airline authorities. It is reported that the plane vanished from radar 16km after it entered the Egyptian airspace; fifteen minutes before it's scheduled to land at Cairo. No distress call or technical failure was received from the plane before its disappearance from radar.

Right now, authorities and aviation experts around the world are working in full swing to
ascertain the fate of the plane. Family and friends of passengers and crew have been told not to panic.

Hopefully, the plane would be found.

This brings memories of Malaysian Airline MH370 which disappeared in 2014 and has not been found since.
