1  Forum / Technology / Data Scientists Network (DSN) products made the IRCAI/UNESCO Global Top 100 List. on: 25-01-2022 10:47 AM
Have you guys heard about Data Science Nigeria (Now known as Data Scientists Network)? The company recently celebrated five years of innovation and impact where they transitioned to a Community, Product and Partnership network and unveiled their new logo to reflect global positioning and expansion beyond Nigeria.

Data Scientists Network (DSN) is known for its innovative AI-powered solutions and two of their projects recently got featured in a list of Global top 100 projects solving problems related to the SDGs with the application of Artificial Intelligence. This list was compiled and released by The International Research Centre in Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO (IRCAI).

Their EdTech AI-Powered Adaptive Learning Solution was featured as a promising project, while their AI Health Prescription Platform was listed as an Early-Stage project.

Their EdTech AI Adaptive Learning Engine is featured as a promising project. This solution delivers personalized learning through a mix of audio classes and interactive SMS to bridge educational gaps for learners from low-income households who have no access to the internet or are internet-ready devices. This product is guided by a back-end adaptive knowledge management engine that uses predictive analytics and a recommendation engine to deliver customized learning that addresses the unique needs of each learner, with or without the internet.

Featured as an early-stage project is their AI Health Prescription Platform, an AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system that aims to mitigate medication errors through automated digitization of Handwritten Medical Prescriptions in Low Resourced Health Systems. The project aims to harness artificial intelligence-enabled optical character recognition (OCR), which is the electronic conversion of scanned images of hand-written text into machine-encoded text on hand-written medical prescriptions to improve health delivery outcomes in low-income countries.

I am excited about the global recognition Nigerian products are getting and I am really excited for the future of the Data Scientists Network. You can watch more details on these two products here>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bFq6dCSjow

3  Forum / Education / What I Gained From The AI-Enabled Community Teachers Training on: 27-09-2021 01:14 PM
Hello fellow teachers! If you were not at the free AI-Enabled Teacher’s Community Training on Friday 24th September 2021 from 3pm to 4pm, you definitely missed a lot!

The free training happened on Facebook live and I am so glad I was a part of the training. I have learnt how to use online tools to teach my students, so I don’t have to keep staying back for extra hours after school anymore. I can just organize an online class for an hour on Saturdays to catch up with my students.

The best part of the training for me was the demo sessions. The facilitator carried us through the step-by-step process of hosting a class on Google classroom, setting assignments and grading assignments. This platform makes your life easier as a teacher and I am a bit annoyed that I did not know how to use such an easy tool. We also had another demo session on how to use Zoom, which is also an easy platform.

The facilitator was highly engaging, he broke down every single thing for us and also answered every question as we were dropping them in the comment session. Technology has made the process of delivering learning much easier with so many tools available for our use as teachers, I would advise you to get on the technology train and begin your journey to becoming a 21st century teacher. You can do this by joining the AI-Enabled Teachers Group of Nigeria on Facebook and LinkedIn where you will enjoy amazing value added content and free training.

Don’t say I did not do anything for you.

Dr. Oyeyemi Kale, the Statistician-General of the Federation, has shown Nigeria the meaning of excellence in the last ten years during his tenure at the National Bureau of Statistics.

Before Dr. Yemi Kale became the Statistician-General of the Federation, the National Bureau of Statistics produced three main annual reports: GDP, Inflation, and Unemployment. The number of yearly reports changed as 22 new reports were added within the first five years of his tenure, which ended in 2016.

Due to his excellent performance, Dr Yemi Kale was reappointed in 2016, and the reappointment made him the first chief executive in the agency's history to serve two terms as statistician general of the federation. By the second term, the number of reports had been expanded to 52 reports.

Dr. Yemi Kale has displayed an exemplary level of excellence and will be celebrated by Data Science Nigeria and Proshare on Wednesday, 29 September 2021. Leading players in the Nigerian data, analytics, financial reporting, marketing/business research, statistical research, and economic modeling communities will gather for a 90-minute get together to celebrate, showcase and reflect on Dr. Kale's contribution to the country.

8  Forum / Education / Students, do you can now learn in your local language? on: 31-08-2021 03:44 PM
All children, irrespective of their location, should have teachers who understand their language and culture to improve their learning. Yet, in many countries, children are taught in languages they do not speak at home.

According to UNESCO – “While the language a child speaks at home is often a crucial element of personal identity and group attachment, language can be a potent source of disadvantage at school because in many countries children are taught and take tests in languages they do not understand.” In Nigeria, most students speak their native language at home while being taught with a different language in school. This can make a student less interested in the subject.

Back then, I could remember many of my classmates skipping French classes because they do not comprehend the language; I am sure I was not the only one who experienced this. This is an example of what can happen when you do not understand the language you are being taught. While English remains our Lingua Franca, we must admit that not many people have a firm grasp of the language among the general populace. Things like this make it quite challenging to be taught in a language you do not understand.

Thank goodness, we have Learn At Home, an EdTech company that has come to the rescue. Learn At home aims to reduce the gap created due to the pandemic between the high class and the low class, making sure no child is left behind in their education. Currently, there are lots of classes on their website www.learnathome.radio, which spans from Primary 4 – SSS 3 and subjects like English Mathematics, Basic Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, etc. They also have examination readiness classes where teachers solve past questions of examinations like WAEC, NECO, JAMB, BECE, Common Entrance. It has been a brilliant solution.
They have decided to turn it up a nudge and do something unprecedented in this part of the world. Teach people in their local languages.

Now, they have Hausa classes, which you access via www.learnathome.radio/hausa, this has been gathering accolades all over the world. They also have an audio dictionary with words in both English and Hausa, which you can also access here www.learnathome.radio/audio-dictionary. These guys are just breaking grounds no one thought was possible. You can check them out and share them with your friends, family, teachers, students, colleagues, and every other person.

9  Forum / Education / Are you prepared for the Future of Education? on: 25-08-2021 08:18 AM
Necessity, they say, is the father of invention. If there is a lesson, we all have to take from the ongoing pandemic, it is the fact that technology will take over everything. By everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Our traditional savings and thrift now have online versions; anything can now be bought online, including toilet rolls. Stocks and shares that were once exclusive to the rich have now been democratised and available to anyone at their fingertips. All thanks to technological inventions. Technological Innovations were at their all-time high during this pandemic.

Education was left behind. Yes, for most people, education was left behind. Schools closed, and students were free to roam.

We (Educators) did not reinvent ourselves. That is the reality for most of us. While the rich went straight to online platforms like Zoom and the likes, it took over six months for most of us to realize laying at home cannot be the new normal.

This lack of innovation was evident in the last JAMB/UTME result. Just 15% of those that participated in the examination passed.

People can blame whoever they want to blame, but the main question is, after sitting down at home for months, do we expect the kids to perform better.

That is why educators need to do better. We have to be prepared for the future, and this future is a lot more reliant on technology. We need to understand this and put ourselves in the best position to take advantage of this.

Earlier, I have talked about the AI-Enabled Teachers Of Nigeria. Without a doubt, this is the best group you can join to keep aBosom  of current events and equip yourself for the future. They offer free training, seminars, and conferences for educators and offer fast and reliable access to cutting-edge technologies in the education sector. This is one of the kindest gestures towards the Education sector. Imagine all these for free. Now there is a conference coming up soon.

It explains what is needed as we transition from brick and mortar schooling to remote/online education.

The transition from physical classes to a remote learning environment is not an easy feat. Learn How Artificial Intelligence enables inclusive and personalized education at the 2021 AI-enabled Teachers Conference for all teachers and educators.

This free virtual conference will hold on the 25th of August 2021 from 11 am-1 pm on ZOOM and will equip teachers with all the knowledge required to deliver practical online classes using artificial intelligence in these current times.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Register now by clicking on www.aienabledteachers.com

Education was one of the industries that took the biggest hit from the ongoing pandemic, especially in the global south countries, and little about this was reported.

According to UNESCO and weforum.org, 290 million students were out of school due to COVID-19, and Nigeria, just one country contributed about 20% of those numbers, that is, around 48 million children that left school.

As an educator, those numbers are staggering. The effect of such on teachers/educational consultants/educators and people in the academic line are always being understated.  Many were laid off and rendered jobless, which gives me chills in my spine because these could be minimized.

The fact that we failed to use technology is the number one reason for such high numbers of school dropouts. The numbers could have been drastically reduced if we resulted in the use of technology for education.

Technology is the way forward, my dear educators. Platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, even WhatsApp and Telegram are currently being used to educate people.

To be the best at what we do, we need to be at the cutting edge of both information and technology. With this said, I'd like to introduce you to this group - AI-Enabled Teachers of Nigeria - A group meant to educate the educators on using technology to disseminate education.

This is the future right here. You cannot miss this one, or else you would be left behind.

Join the AI-Enabled Teachers Of Nigeria on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Let me state some of the benefits for you. You belong to a group that is ready to share information about cutting-edge technology used in education worldwide.

They organize conferences to educate teachers/educators all over the country.

The benefits are numerous. Join and be a part of this ever-growing community of forward-thinking teachers.
11  Forum / Education / Students, Do You Know You Can Make Money While You Learn During This Holiday? on: 9-08-2021 06:47 PM
Learn at Home makes learning better for students across Nigeria by delivering free and accessible, world-class learning on www.learnathome.radio . As students begin their holidays, it is only right that they continue to study during the long holidays to avoid them forgetting everything they have been taught in school. Thankfully, LearnatHome already offers a 24-hour free learning platform for all students across Nigeria to learn everywhere and anytime with any kind of device and very minimal internet usage.

Students can continue to learn up to 10 subjects on the platform and other educational content like common errors in the English language, Great inventors, African proverbs and their meanings, Idioms, and much more. Even better, during the holiday, children can participate in the Learn at Home holiday quiz competition, where they can win airtime daily throughout August. This means there will be a quiz question on the www.learnathome.radio/quiz every day starting August 2nd, and students who answer the quiz correctly with the right speed can win airtime every day!

The daily quiz questions will be drawn from the class that aired the previous day, so to answer correctly, students must have listened to the class. All students are encouraged to participate in the Learn at Home holiday quiz competition as this is such a perfect opportunity for them to enjoy free quality classes and win daily airtime while learning.

Good News for Teachers
Teachers are some of the most remarkable human beings we have around. Just take a moment to think about it - Will there be Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, or even astronauts. Without Teachers, it would be a very bland world.

It is also worth knowing that times have changed a lot. Covid-19 has drastically affected everything, including the way we receive our education. This evolution has accelerated the growth of the EdTech industry.

EdTech - Education, and Technology - using technology to improve traditional education. A basic example is the use of Zoom for online classes, which took learning beyond the four walls of the school and made it easy for students and teachers alike to receive and give lectures from the comfort of their houses.

While online classes are not that new, the pandemic accelerated the growth of this sector. Without a doubt, EdTech is the present and future of education.

One crucial point is that most teachers are well equipped to teach and educated, but not many are prepared to use technology to facilitate the educational process. People might ask, why am I writing this? As an educator, myself and I have seen talented educators/teacher being left behind because they could not stay aBosom  of happenings and innovations. This is rather disheartening. For instance, I know an excellent tutor, who couldn’t use Zoom during the lockdown, yet he complained about how tough things were. My thought was, Mr. Man, the solution is right there in your hands - Your phone can do wonders, and most of these students are already on Zoom anyway.

I have some good news, and that is the main reason I am writing this epistle. Just this past week, I discovered a gold mine of information which I feel is what sharing. It was loaded with information targeted at educators. This includes up-to-date news, relevant tools needed to be a 21st-century educator, and lots more. I was amazed at this initiative.

It is a newsletter compiled by the good people at Data Science Nigeria. It is published weekly to educate and inform teachers about the most recent technologies affecting the education and EdTech industries. I consider this the best way to get updated and sharpening your skills as an educator. Within 5 minutes, you know the latest news and tools used in education and EdTech and all the information in and around the education and EdTech sectors.

You can join thousands of winning teachers/Educators today just by subscribing to their mailing list.
