The latest mass wedding will involve young ladies and men from less privileged families would be included in the government-sponsored programme, geared towards discouraging the spate of divorce and single-parent in the state.
Screening of prospective suitors in the 44 Local Government Areas of the State has commenced, Usman disclosed, pointing out that the final screening would be carried out at Hisbah headquarters located in Sharada.
We have already formed committees made up of Interim Management Officers of Local Governments, District heads, Divisional Police officers, among others,â he noted adding that another committee of four groups has also been raised to handle the final screening that has to do with HIV and Genotype test.
According to Usman, Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has promised to provide household materials for the couples in addition to the N20, 000 upkeep allowances.
Seminars on the importance of marriage are also being organized for the participants. You are aware that the majority of the marriage problems encountered in the state come as a result of lack of understanding between the couples and overwhelming selfish interest by parents, who impose husbands on their teenage daughters. So we are educating the couples on this aspect and other issues related to successful and happy marriage,†he noted.
