Forum / The Buzz Central / P.Diddy Left Injured In Serious Car Accident (PHOTOS) |
on: 28-10-2012 09:06 AM
| Pictures show the rapper, real name Sean Combs, slumped on the floor as he recovered after his chauffeur-driven Cadillac Escalade collided with a Lexus RX vehicle. Diddy's luxury vehicle was left crushed and undriveable, and had to be towed away after the smash at the Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The windscreen was smashed and the front of the car caved in. The airbags were activated and parts of the vehicle littered the ground. The 42-year-old was so shaken by the crash that he was seen lying down on the grass beside his vehicle. He was accompanied by record label boss Andre Hurrell, who helped him to his feet. A second passenger was also seen sprawled on the lawn beside the music mogul. Despite complaining of unspecified pain Diddy refused to go in an ambulance, and told authorities he would 'seek his own medical attention,' according to police. The driver of the Lexus received unspecified injuries and was taken to a hospital. It is believed that employees of the upmarket hotel rushed to the aid of Diddy and his fellow passenger, who were then escorted through the hotel lobby. Officers raced to the scene and took details from the passengers, including Diddy. He is currently receiving treatments for his Neck and Collarbone. http://www.ngnewspapers.com/diddy-car-crash-receiving-treatment-neck-ribs-collarbone/ | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / TROUBLE: LASTMA Impounds Obasanjo’s Vehicle |
on: 24-10-2012 05:41 PM
| A ‘cold war’ appears to brewing between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, following the confiscation of a utility vehicle belonging to Obasanjo Farms. This is coming as the protest against the Lagos State Road Traffic Law by commercial motorcyclists (popularly called Okada) Tuesday spread to other parts of the metropolis, leaving at least one bus belonging to LAGBUS Asset Management Limited damaged. Also, pandemonium erupted Tuesday at the Alakuko area of the state, following the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist, and injuring another by one of the policemen allegedly attached to Alakuko Police Station, Area G, Ogba Command. However, it was gathered that the Obasanjo Farms vehicle was impounded by officials of the state Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) over the weekend, for contravening the traffic law. Though Obasanjo was alleged to have made efforts to get the vehicle released, which proved abortive, the action was, however, said to have led to the forceful seizure of 10 LAG buses, which were alleged to have been taken into the premises of Obasanjo Farms between last week Friday and Sunday. However, effort to get the Chief Executive of LASTMA, Mr. Young Arabamen, to comment on the development proved abortive as his secretary said he was in a meeting. Equally, the protest was said to have started very early Tuesday at Kola Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, following alleged arrests and extortion of commercial motorcyclists by law enforcement agencies. Despite the protest, security operatives attached to the state Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit and Rapid Response (RRS) were said to have stepped up the enforcement of the traffic law, an outcome of which led to impounding of about 3,000 commercial motorcycles in different parts of the state. Since last weekend, about 10 LAG buses belonging to the Lagos State Government have been impounded in Ota, Ogun State and packed in Obasanjo Farms. This happened in retaliation over the confiscation of a utility vehicle last Friday belonging to Obasanjo Farms owned by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
I heard that the vehicle belonging to Obasanjo Farms was seized by the officials of Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) for contravening traffic law and after Obasanjo’s efforts failed to get the vehicle released, even personally calling Fashola and I was reliably informed that the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola turned down Obasanjo’s pleas for the release of his vehicle but instead advised him that his company should obey the law. Obasanjo's company allegedly instigated some miscreants to forcefully seize over 10 LAG buses that crossed the Lagos-Ogun boundary in Ota and following the alleged seizure of the LAG buses, the management of the bus company has halted all further operations to Ota axis until further notice. OK!!! Ex president Vs Governor…..Who do you think will win? http://www.ngnewspapers.com/lastma-impounds-obasanjos-vehicle-lagos-traffic-law/

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Teacher flogs 12 year old pupil to death over Homework |
on: 24-10-2012 05:28 PM
| A 12-year-old pupil of a secondary school in Awka, Anambra State, Miss Chidimma Ukachukwu, has died after she was allegedly flogged by her teacher for failing to do her homework. A reliable source in the school told the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Tuesday that the girl died on Thursday last week after she was flogged. The source explained that the girl fainted after being flogged severally by a female teacher and was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where she died. The source also told NAN that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Uju Okeke, then ordered the closure of the school as a result of the incident. A NAN correspondent, who visited the girl’s family home, soon after she was buried on Tuesday in Awka, reports that the family was in grief. The girl’s father, Mr. Simeon Ukachukwu, confirmed the incident, saying it was a sad development. He added that it was an act of God. But when Okeke was contacted, she denied ordering the closure of the school and said that the school was on midterm break. NAN investigation, however, revealed that schools in the state were not on midterm break. This fact was corroborated by an official of the Nigerian Union of Teachers in Akwa South Local Government Area. http://www.ngnewspapers.com/teacher-flogs-12year-pupil-death-homework/ | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Prof. Jega: Politicians use lots of money in elections |
on: 13-08-2012 06:42 PM
| Jega: Politicians use lots of money in elections INEC chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega yesterday said politicians engage in excessive use of money in the electoral process, describing this as an unhealthy and unlawful act that must be addressed ahead of 2015. Jega, who spoke at a forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the Independent National Electoral Commission was evolving measures to curb money politics as part of its reforms. “Obviously, it is unfortunate that in Nigeria there is a lot of use of money in politics,” he said. “It is unhealthy, it is illegal and we have to do quite a lot to minimise the role of money in politics and, we in INEC, it’s is one of the reforms measures that we hope to introduce long before 2015,” he added. Jega said that INEC intended to tackle extreme use of money by establishing a political monitoring department to observe party campaigns. He said that the unit would also monitor financial contributions of individuals, organisations as well as advertorials of political parties. The chairman said this was to ensure full conformity with the limits that had been established by law. He added that most countries took the issue of the use of money in politics seriously, stressing that it was imperative that Nigeria did same. http:///inec-news-politicians-use-lots-of-money-in-elections/ | | |

| Just after the signing of the Lagos Road Traffic Bill into law on Thursday by Governor Babatunde Fashola, activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the various bus stops and motor parks in the state have been outlawed, the state government declared yesterday. Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, who revealed this while briefing journalists in Ikeja, alongside his Justice and Information and Strategy counterparts, Ade Ipaye, and Aderemi Ibirogba, said it was one of the provisions on the newly signed Lagos Road Traffic Law 2012. Opeifa said the government recognised the right for them to associate, but believed that the motor parks should be made easy for those who want to carry out their business of commuting in the state to do so without interference. According to him: “Henceforth, union activity is no longer allowed in all the garages in the state. What they need to do now is to operate the way other unions in the state operates from a recognised office.” He said the development also prohibits members of the road transport workers from collecting money on the road from commuters. “No union member should be seen on the road collecting money from transport operators. It is illegal and this is how it is contained in the whitepaper adopted by the state government.” The commissioner said drivers and conductors in the state would be required to wear uniform HE HE HEHE , explaining that this is meant to improve the safety of lives and property within the state. | Oil subsidy fraud: EFCC arraigns more marketers THE arraignment of some oil marketers indicted in the oil subsidy scam by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continued on Monday before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja. The anti-graft commission arraigned more oil marketers and an oil company before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo. Those arraigned include Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, Habila Theck and Fargo Petroleum and Gas Limited. One of them, Olugbenga Adesanya, was, however, not arraigned alongside others as, according to EFCC, he is "still at large". The arraigned persons and company are among the 17 oil marketers and seven oil companies indicted in the fuel subsidy fraud by the House of Representatives committee. They were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery and use of false documents. Initially, the charge sheet carried seven counts but one of the prosecuting counsel, Mr Francis Usani, applied to the court to drop one of the charges. http://www.ngnewspapers.com/oil-subsidy-scandal-efcc-arraigns-marketers/ | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Bomb scare in Lagos church FALSE!!! |
on: 19-07-2012 05:51 PM
| Fear gripped residents of Majekodunmi Street, off Toyin Street, after an object was dropped by an unknown man who lodged at an hotel, off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos. It was said that if not for the alarm raised by passers-by, the hotel management would not have reported it to the police. Most residents of the area agreed that the object was a bomb deliberately planted to wreak havoc in the area. They said it was not a coincidence that the object was found in-between two churches. One of the eyewitnesses said: “You know there are two big churches here. The bomb was found at the back of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and opposite the Assembly of God Church. “Had it been detonated when the churches are holding their services, you can imagine the extent of damage and panic it would have caused. The explosion itself would have caused serious stampede.” But the Commissioner of Police, Anti-Bomb Unit, Mr. Adebanjo Folusho, said the object was not a bomb, even as he described the incident as a hoax. http://www.ngnewspapers.com/bomb-blast-lagos-church-false/ | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Woman aged 70 killed for alleged witchcraft |
on: 15-07-2012 03:20 PM
| EKITI State government is sad over the killing in Omuo Ekiti of a seventy-year old woman identified as Madam Rebecca Adewunmi accused of witchcraft. The daughter of the deceased woman, Mrs. Grace Smith, said some youths in the community conspired to kill her mother. The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi, yesterday, described the act as criminal, barbaric and a contravention of laid down laws. Richie-Adewusi, who lamented that such an unfortunate incidence could still happen in this modern age, said it was sad that the poor old woman was killed based on alleged dream by a little girl that she had a hand in the illness of her stepson. The Commissioner also faulted the failure of the police to make any arrest since June 30 when the incident occurred, just because some prominent leaders in the community reportedly advised the police against wading into a witchcraft case. Saying that the signing into law of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence Prohibition bill by Governor Kayode Fayemi last November had made such barbaric act a criminal matter in Ekiti State with great consequences, she called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act. “It is clear that the perpetrators of this dastardly act have contravened this law and they should be made to face the full wrath of the law. This act is condemnable and we hope the law enforcement agents will live up to their responsibility and bring all the perpetrators to book”, she added. Meanwhile, counsel to the family of the deceased, Mr. Femi Omotoso, has, in a petition to Ekiti State Police Command, demanded investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of the woman and prosecution of the culprits. http://www.ngnewspapers.com/ekiti-state-news-woman-aged-70-killed-alleged-witchcraft/ | | |

on: 29-06-2012 09:40 AM
| Men of the State Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police have extended invitation to fiery Lagos preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare, over what police sources see as a controversial sermon against President Goodluck Jonathan. The invitation is sequel to a sermon which he (Pastor Bakare) delivered in his church wherein he accused President Jonathan of deliberately trying to bankrupt the country. Publicity secretary of the Save Nigeria Group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, who confirmed the development in a chat with LEADERSHIP on telephone, however, said Bakare, the leader of the group, was aware of the summon. Bakare, the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the last general election was billed to honour the invitation but had left the country on Wednesday. “We saw an invitation by the police asking Pastor Bakare to honour an invitation regarding a sermon that he delivered sometime ago, but, as I am talking to you now, he is out of the country,” Odumakin said. Though, it was speculated that security agents might prevent him from making the journey, which many believe was to the United States of America, he made without it hindrance. Excerpt of Pastor Bakare’s Sermon “We have vampires whose assignment is to kill Nigeria and to make sure that Nigeria does not exist thereafter. Suddenly Nigeria that was that cheered now has clueless, shoeless people take over the administration of Nigeria.
“And the one word I have for Nigerians is, don’t despair. Jonathan is dancing to the drumbeat of destiny. His destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria. All men of goodwill must rise up to stop him. And stop him we will do. And I said stop him we will do. Don’t make mistake about what you are hearing from me today, it is clear in my heart beyond any iota of doubt that Jonathan’s destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria, balkanize Nigeria. And there are forces behind him totally committed and determined to do so. Oil vultures with petrol dollars and all kinds of political “tinkers” not thinkers are tinkering with the destiny of our nation with their palace prophets telling them peace when there is no peace.I want to tell you that it does not matter what it takes, we will stop you. We will stop you dead in your tracks. You will not accomplish your assignment. You will not finish your assignment. Nigeria will vomit you in the name of Jesus Christ. Turn your Bible with me to the Book of Chronicles. Tell it on the mountain top that this man is dancing the drumbeat of destiny. His destiny is to bankrupt this nation and balkanize it and he has the full support of his corporate cowboys and oil vultures as well as their palace prophets who are telling them peace when there is no peace because I don’t understand how a nation will be going through calamity upon calamity and those who should be concerned will only be prancing around. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how you can serve your nation and serve bomb blast inside a church in Jos for breakfast. And before they could recover from that anguish you serve them air crash for lunch. And before they could gain their moment of sanity, you serve them with petro dollar bribe and now you vaunt about it telling us nothing can happen because you are in charge, the land will vomit you as the Lord lives in the name of Jesus Christ and every collaborator will not go unpunished. Your year of punishment has come. Tell it on the mountain top that there are still men of goodwill who will stop you dead in your tracks.I am not talking about deluded ambitious politicians who now think of 2015 when the nation is in a mess in 2012. We can do all the tinkering, if we don’t rise up now there will not be 2015.” http://www.ngnewspapers.com/tunde-bakare-summoned-sermon-president-jonathan/
