8 year-old Mai Li Fay, from Bangkok, is far from living the usual life of a girl her age. Everyday, thousands of people gather to the front of her family’s house to get a chance of seeing and possibly touching the young girl, a gesture which both buddhists and hindu pilgrims seem to perceive as a garantee of good fortune. According to the country’s top medical expert, Dr Ping Lao, the young girl suffers a very rare syndrome known as the Serpentosis Malianorcis or Jing Jing’s disease, which gives her lower body a distinct reptilian form and aspect.

Only a handful of such cases have been recorded throughout history, so the scientific knowledge accumulated about the pathology is rather limited and there is no cure in sight at the moment. The Fay family have welcomed the situation brought by Mai Li’s situation with a mix of anguish and excitement, as the never ending lines of tourists and pilgrims have brought the badly impoverished family some substantial revenues and given them an important raise in their social status but cost them there privacy and intimacy.

7  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / N1.25m Reward For Information About The Ejigbo Pepper Women Assault Perpetrators on: 9-01-2014 03:45 PM

The Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, announced a N1.25 million reward anyone for information that will unravel the perpetrators of the brutalisation of two women in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, last year.

According to the Chairman of the five-man ad hoc committee investigating the matter, Mr. Ajibayo Adeyeye:

“Anybody that gives information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous act shall be given N1 million. And I will add the sum of 250,000 from my private account to increase the sum to N1.25million.”

During the deliberation, the video clip of the incident which ran for about eight minutes was played, showing how the two women were tortured by the perpetrators.
The video clip moved the participants at the meeting to tears.
The President of Women Arise Initiative, Dr. Joe  Odumakin, who had previously led a protest to the House on the matter, explained that she saw the video for the first time on December 7, 2013, noting that the greatest gift anyone could give the women was to get justice for them.

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 48-Year-Old Woman Found In Suitcase Trying To Sneak Into The US on: 9-01-2014 03:32 PM

Customs and Border Protection officers foiled a smuggling attempt at the U.S.-Mexico border when they discovered a woman contorted and hidden inside a suitcase.

Officials released a photo this week showing the woman tucked into a ball and laying inside the luggage in the back of a vehicle.

The woman, a Thai national named badkamol Mongkolsermsak, was charged with re-entry after deportation, CBP spokesman Victor Brabble said.
She was discovered on December 30, when inspectors at the border referred the driver of a Honda SUV for a secondary inspection, CBP said in a statement.

When officers inspected the vehicle, they opened up the suitcase and found the 48-year-old woman hidden underneath some clothing.

Authorities did not release the name of the 56-year-old Phoenix man who was driving the SUV.

The case has been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, CBP said.

No fewer than 15 (driver of the truck, his assistant, several passengers in two commercial buses, by-standers, two Hausa suya vendors) people were burnt to death, also burnt were several building, 8 vehicles and about 200 shops including a commercial bank when a  tanker laden with petrol fell and went up in flames Tuesday night. The inferno lasted till yesterday morning, at the Berger Suya junction, Apapa, Lagos.

An eye witness said that as the tanker was coming from Kirikiri, it lost control as a result of brake failure and when it could not negotiate bent it fell and caught fire. This is a not good for new year.

12  Forum / The Buzz Central / I Cannot Act Nood; Not For Anything --Juliet Ibrahim on: 9-01-2014 04:19 AM

Juliet Ibrahim is a name to reckon with both in Gollywood and Nollywood as she has starred in well over hundred movies and still counting. Recently, she added music to her ever flourishing career with two singles already in the pipe line. In this interview, she opens up on her relationship with Majid Michel, and why she delved into music.

How’s your foundation doing these days?
We give God all the glory as we are moving forward and making progress. I just need a lot of support and help in terms of monetary assistance to keep my dream alive. With this, we shall be able to give prompt treatment to the people on our bill. A lot of people rely on us for help and we don’t want to let them down but there’s only a little we can do on our own.

There’s a gist making the rounds that you have gone into music. What informed your decision to do so?
Yes, I have gone into music and like I have said, times without number that music is my first love.  It’s something I have being passionate about since I was a child. I had always wanted to be a musician; acting was like a stepping stone for it to become a reality. So, it’s just a case of me living out my dream.

How far do you wish to go in music?
I plan to go as far as God takes me. It’s not going to be a pastime; I intend making music my  profession and thank God, it’s still in line with acting.

How many movies have you featured in?

I have featured in well over 100 movies and I’m still counting. I’ve starred in both Nigerian and Ghanaian movies. Recently, I started featuring in Hollywood movies.

Do you choose the kind of roles you play in movies?
If a director or a producer invites me to come and be part of the cast of his new movie. First and foremost, I read the script, understand my character and decide if I would want to be part of the movie or not. If I am paid what I have requested for by the production company, I will go ahead to star in the film. In this process, I put in my very best to interprete my role.  I only improvise when it comes to the lines in the screenplay with the consent of the director.

For the right money, can you act Nood?
Not for anything in the world would I ever act Nood.

From your complexion, one can decipher that you are a Mulatto. Can you tell us about your back ground?
My father is from Lebanon while my mother is a Ghanaian. I am the eldest of three children, two girls and a brother. I grew up in Ivory Coast; Liberia and Lebanon. I can speak French and Spanish.

Your last name is Ibrahim, are you a Muslim?
My last name is Ibrahim and it is also my father’s. I am not a Muslim. I am a Christian

If you were not already married, who would you have loved to date in the industry?
I cannot date anyone because l am a happily married woman. Besides, I don’t think I would want to date anyone. That’s where I work and earn my living, I wouldn’t want to mix business with pleasure.

Can you stand a cheating husband?
No! There is no second chance for someone who cheats. I believe that for every mistake we make, we are given a minute to think twice before making it.

The rumour about you dating Majid Michel few years ago. Is it true?
There was nothing in the past and the present between Majid and I except a working relationship.
