Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend.  Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks.

Terrorists and armed gangs operating in the forests were completely rooted out while some were captured during the operation.  Among those captured were two foreigners who are suspected to be mercenaries. Also captured are several weapons and equipment including power generating sets, communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, foodstuff and kitchen utensils. (See the items from the terrorists' den after the cut)

4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / No producer or director as molested me in the industry on: 8-07-2014 05:43 AM

Fast-rising Nollywood star, Nkem Ike, stated during a recent interview that segxwal harassment does not exist in Nigerian movie industry.

Actress Nkem Ike, who made her debut in the industry in 2009, have never met a man or a woman who was segxwally harassed at gunpoint in Nollywood.

The actress who has starred in quite a number of flicks such as ‘Aso Ebi Girl’ and ‘Enemies in Progress claimed she hasn’t had experience such harassment maintained that if any exec should ask an actress out, the proper action to take is to walk out.

Nkem Ike said: "If a producer asks you out, it is your right to walk out on him. It is not as if a gun is pointed to your head. For me, I have not been in such a situation before. But maybe it has to do with the way I started. Andy Amaechi found me and gave me my first role and it continued from there. Most of the times I played major roles, so maybe that is why I didn’t experience such. I used to say that I have never seen a man or woman who said they used gun to harass him or her in the industry."

"I have never experienced harassment either. if someone asks you out you simply decline and go your way. Those who think the easiest way to get roles and become a star is trading their bodies should realise that it dies not work in that way, Marketers are out for business and naturally feature those who have market value and help them recoup their value afterwards. Nobody has complained that he or she was harassed at gunpoint. segxwal harassment does not exist in Nollywood the way it is usually painted," she said.

The Hausa movie industry, called Kannywood, has produced some very interesting actors over the years but maybe because of the lack of popularity and interest that follows other sectors of the Nigerian movie industry like Nollywood and the Yoruba sector, not much is heard of the talents that abound in the northern part of the country.

But those who give more than a cursory look at Kannywood will tell you that Ali Nuhu and Sani Danja are about the two most popular faces in Hausa movies. Ali Nuhu who has made some incursions into the English sector of the industry, quite stands toe to toe with Sani danja who is also a musician, a very popular one at that.

Born on the 15 of March, 1974, Ali Nuhu is generally regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Kannywood.

Ali Nuhu is currently an ambassador for Globacom and won the Best Upcoming Actor award at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, before going on to get a nomination as  the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won Best Actor in a film at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

On his part, Sani Danja Sani Danja is not only an actor, he is a singer, model, producer and won the City People Entertainer Awards as Best Actor and Producer of the Year in 2013.

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Iyabo Ojo Has Encouraging Words For Single Mums on: 8-07-2014 05:20 AM

One of the best Yoruba actresses and producers in Nigeria, Iyabo Ojo, may be a single mother of two adorable kids but she has not allowed her status to affect her career and every day living.

Though she became a single mum not by design but by fate, she has accepted that fate in good faith and has gone ahead to take very good care of her kids.

Iyabo Ojo who was married to a Lagos-based movie marketer at the age of 21 before making her marks in the movie industry, left her husband and dumped his name early this year and moved on with her life.

Since then, she has been taking care of her kids all by herself.

In this touching piece, the Silence actress had this to say to all single mothers:

Lord I am not prefect! I may have failed in other areas of my life but as a mother to my kids and to the other kids I have chosen to be a mother to, I will never ever fail.

That’s my greatest determination in life #greatsinglemothers #greatmothers #greatstrongwomen #pillarsofhomes.

It’s not easy but no one said it would be, so stop blaming, stop crying, stop seeking pity, stop feeling like a loser, stop hoping 4 what is not n focus on how to make it happen.

You re not a weaker vessel, u re d mother to d great generation in ur care, get up n fight for those helpless kids who didn’t beg to come to this world but it was ur choice whether u accept it or not ur kids they look up to u.

Your smile is their hope, so let ur weakness be ur loving kids n ur strength be that ur kids succeed in life! Never abandon ur kids! I tell u, u will find ur happiness in fulfilling ur greatest job as a mother!

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'I Took Off My Underwear' (A Must Read For All Ladies) on: 7-07-2014 11:15 PM
I USED to be that innocent girl who had the world at her feet. I was beautiful and I had eyes and hips that could make men sway, and to top it all up, I was a Christian, a very good Christian with a heart burning for God.
When I entered the university, I met a guy, his name was Derrick. I couldn't believe my luck the first time I bumped into him on my way to class. He had such a kind smile and a tender look that weakened my knees when he spoke.
Because I was late for class we couldn't talk much but barely three weeks later, I met him at the fresher's night party and I was overwhelmed. We got talking and I found out that he was in his second year and from that night, we became an inseparable pair. At first, we were friends and as months passed by, we got closer and closer and the chemistry between us was undeniable.
About a year after I entered the university, Derrick and I started dating. He was everything a girl could ever want and desire save the fact that he wasn't so much of a Christian. Derrick had magical hands that made him hard to resist and most times I fell for it. At first, I felt bad but when I couldn't help falling into the same pit I killed the guilt on my inside. And then one day, one of my friends said I was getting fatter and that got me thinking and in the process I began to link the dots...first I had a vomiting spree every morning which I thought was due to a flu and then I had this morning sickness which I felt was due to stress and then my missing period...oh no it can't be possible I said to myself, I couldn't be pregnant!!!
After a series of tests outside school, I realized the deadliest truth: I was indeed pregnant. I was only nineteen, I still had a whole life ahead of me, what was I going to do? I couldn't tell my parents, they wouldn't hear of it. I had to go to Derrick to tell him what I had found out.
On telling him, I saw him fly into a temper I had never seen in my life. He was so hysterical, calling me all sorts of names and I didn't even know when I started crying heart drenching tears of hurt and betrayal. When he looked into my eyes he must have realized how scared and hurt I was and so he pulled me close and ran his hands through my hair until I had calmed down and then he said to me in the most subtle voice ever: "why don't you have an abortion?". I pulled back instantly, I couldn't have an abortion! But when he talked about my parents and the sanctioning of the school and the fellowship which I belonged to, I knew I had no other choice.
Derrick had made all the arrangements and so on the supposed day we went to the room-like clinic. I shivered all through my way there but Derrick kept telling me that it would be okay and that he was proud that I made such a brave decision. When I entered into the room where the abortion was supposed to take place, I laid down on the table trying to dissociate my mind from what I was about to do and then a young man told me sternly, "you know I can't perform this procedure with your underwear on" and then I began to pull it off. As I did this, a sense of guilt overwhelmed me, first I had pulled off my underwear of pleasure and now I was pulling it off to get rid of the stigma the pleasure had brought...what a shame, I felt so exposed.

All through the times that I felt instruments coming in and out of me, I kept thinking of the lady I had become and the hypocrite I had transformed into. I let out a sigh, only if I can get through this I muttered... only if...and then I felt a sharp pain pierce through the whole of my body, I screamed but then the doctor told me to be quiet. I felt another pain but this time I bit my lip and then the pain began to come in successions. I instinctively knew that something was wrong but I was too weak to talk or to move and then I heard the voices of Derrick and the doctor talking about the fact that I was bleeding excessively. The pain was so unbearable and I could feel myself getting weaker and weaker. With the last strength in me, I pleaded with God "Oh Lord, I'm so sorry for taking my underwear off, please forgive me." and I drifted into a world where the pain seemed less hurtful and the voices seemed more distant.
Friends, our bodies are the temple of the Lord... Do not take off your underwear when the time is not right. Lots of girls who gained admission into the university as virgins eventually lost it so cheaply to guys who have nothing to do with their
destinies. In a bid to get a certificate, they sold out a destiny that certificate cannot guarantee.
Friends, permit me to say it for the umpteenth time, even if you have lost your virginity, you can become chaste again! Record a period of virginity from a particular time till marriage and in the presence of God, you are as chaste as someone who has known no man because you have chosen to honor Him again despite your past.
Virtuous women aren't in bed with their fiancé right now. If he is sleeping with you...he's sleeping with others. Yup, you are not the only one. A boyfriend, even a long term one, is STILL not a husband. Too many women are giving boyfriends husband privileges! We keep losing what is rightfully ours because we keep messing with what's not ours. There is just something classy about a
woman who can control her emotions!
Many have been laid on the slab of abortion, yet they keep involving in activities that will take them back on that slab! Risking it all!
Please, DON'T TAKE OFF YOUR UNDERWEAR! Any man who has not signed his life to you is not worth it!

9  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigerian soldiers behaving like Boko Haram members -Soyinka on: 7-07-2014 11:08 PM

NOBEL Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has likened Nigerian soldiers to the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The literary icon, speaking on Saturday night at the grand finale of Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa, described as shocking, the alleged burning on Friday last week of some BRT buses on Ikorodu road, Lagos, by protesting soldiers.

Soyinka called on President Goodluck Jonathan to take up the matter.

"I demand the Commander-in-Chief to do something about it; example must be set. This is not the first time. We have had enough," he said.

He further wondered why those soldiers considered their lives more special than those of the citizens, particularly in a country where people have continued to die through senseless acts of terror.

Describing the soldiers' attack on innocent people as madness, Soyinka added that "Ola Rotimi wrote a play and called it 'Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again.' In this case, I will say our soldiers have gone mad again."
