| This is an old debate right from the time when christianity was not heard in Africa. To some, the idea of abstaining from sex and virginity, was used to restrict what was meant for the adult from the youths or those who are of age. They came up with different methods (female/male circumcision, coming of age, disvirgining the bride in public ,etc) to enforce it as a virtuous tradition. But then, most communities had maidens who walk about naked. But what i have never read or heard from oral tradition is what happens if a husband had sex with the new bride on the first day and discovered that "she was not a virgin".
Sex before marriage is wrong in most cultures, leave religion alone. The benefits atnumbers the disadvantages. You feel whole (especially if you are a lady). But then how does one know that he/she is a virgin? is it only when you have not when (if a man) you have not penetrated a woman (and vis versa). What of the mastubating individuals? What about the kissing lovers. Well lets us not look at sex from the coupling point of view. Can you stay without sex? try it as you may it is a natural thing to see and appreciate beauty and then another thing to experiment on what you don't understand.
To me this issue is a consciencious one. If you still have a conscience though, so decide for yourself and don't judge others and please no pretends. |
