21  Forum / Politics / ‘PDP Jailed Me, APC Released Me’ - James Ibori Says After Defecting To APC on: 31-08-2018 06:20 PM

About 7,000 members of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in Delta State, including two aides of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The decampees, mainly from Oleh community and its environs in Isoko South local government area of the state, defected alongside Mr Lucky Arumare, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Community Development, Mrs. Uyoyou Edhekpo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilization.

The based their decision to dump the party on alleged high handedness, and continued imposition of candidates by the leadership of the party, alleging that the PDP as a party portends “evil with fake ideologies”.

At the Oleh primary school ground where the decampees formally announced their exit from the PDP on Thursday evening, they vowed to mobilize against PDP in the state and the local government area, adding that their defection from the PDP was an indication of victory for the APC.

Receiving the defectors, the state chairman of the APC, Prophet Jones Erue boasted that Governor Okowa will be shown the way out during the 2019 general election, alleging that there has been decay in infrastructure, and under development in the state in the past three years.

According to him, “Governor Okowa is serious apology to Delta State. He will be shown the way out from Government House by Delta people through their votes. The people have concluded to enthrone an APC government come 2019 in Delta State. PDP has nothing to offer to the people of Delta State”.

Arumare, former aide to Governor Okowa, who spoke to journalists on behalf of the others, alleged that PDP operates as a “cult group”, adding that members who are not part of the “cult group” were not recognized in the scheme of things.

He said, “We have dumped PDP. We will not go back to the party that operates like a cult group. We were tired and moved into light where we can pursue our political career. We will shock the party come 2019 with our votes. APC has transparent ideologies we will operate with”.

Meanwhile, sources close to Chief James Ibori , a two-time former governor of the state hinted that all was now set for him to dump PDP for APC in the next few days, as a source who did not want to be mentioned in the print, quoted Ibori as saying: “PDP send me to jail, APC released me. We are taking steps very soon”.

26  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "We Disguise As Driver-Bus Conductor To Rob Passengers" - Arrested Blood Brothers Confess on: 31-08-2018 07:39 AM

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad , FSARS have smashed a syndicate which masqueraded as commercial bus driver to attack passengers, dispossessing them of cash and other valuables, arresting four of its members.

Among the suspects, were two brothers- Patrick Emeka and Patrick Frank. The suspects as gathered, were arrested at Berger, along Ojodu Berger, after they flung one of their female victims out of their operational vehicle, a Toyota Siennna, at the early hours of Wednesday.

Explaining how the gang operated during an open interrogation section with members of the FSARS Overhaul Implementation Committee, South West zone, led by the chairman, DCP Adepoju Ilori, one of the brothers, Emeka, disclosed that the gang usually sprayed substance in the bus which puts their target to sleep.

According to Emeka, who said he was tempted by the offer of N50,000 payment daily: “ I was driving for a company in Victoria island, when somebody said he would want me to be his driver and that I would be paid N50,000 daily.

“I invited my brother, Frank, who is also a driver, after owner of the commercial bus he was driving collected it from him because he could not meet up with the daily return of N5,000 for a seven-seater bus.

“Together, we approached the person that offered me the N50,000 daily payment job and asked what he wanted us to do. He told us we would be recruited into one chance robbery (catch-in-the-air). “He said our targets would be passengers’ cash and their ATM cards with which we would withdraw money.

We plied Ikeja to Berger. “He said we could get more than N50,000 depending on what we got. We agreed to give it a try. we did not succeed on the first and second day. “But on the third day, we got a female victim who was going to work. We collected her ATM and her pin code from her, drove to a near-by bank and withdrew N180, 000.

“Four of us went for the operation. My brother and I got N50,000 each as promised, others got N50,000 and N30,000 and we bought two tyres with the balance. “We threw the lady out of the vehicle unknown to us that some SARS operatives, who got wind of our regular operation along that route, were around.”

DCP Ilori therefore directed the Officer-in-charge of FSARS Lagos, CSP Peter Gana, to quickly conclude his investigation and charge the suspects to court.

28  Forum / Sports / DreamComeTrue:8-Time Olympic Champion, Usain Bolt Set To Make Footballing Debut With Australian Club on: 31-08-2018 07:05 AM

Usain Bolt is set to make his footballing debut for Australian club Central Coast Mariners in a friendly on Friday night.

Bolt, 32, has long spoken of his ambition to become a professional footballer and his trial at the A-League club follows similar stints for sides in Germany and Norway.

The Olympic sprint champion has been put through his paces for the Mariners - who finished bottom of the league last season after being signed on an indefinite trial for the club based 50 miles north of Sydney.

Head coach Mike Mulvey has said the eight-time Olympic champion is likely to play some part at the Central Coast Stadium against a select XI in front of more than 10,000 fans.

Manchester-born Mulvey said: "It comes down to what the fitness coaches tell me with regards to how his body's coping with the loading we've got at the moment.

"But I would imagine he's going to be playing some part on Friday.

"When you do track and field it's virtually a straight line and a track coach will never ask you to decelerate or accelerate the way that we do, it's multidirectional movement in football, so he has to get used to that.

"I'm quite pleased with the way he's progressing, and he'll be sore every night, because the sessions are quite gruelling, but he's determined."

The 100m and 200m world-record holder is currently having an indefinite trial with the Mariners as he bids to earn himself a sport-swapping contract for the forthcoming A-League season, which starts in October.

29  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Mother Of Four And Housewife, Remanded In Prison For Stealing N3,000 Tecno Phone (Photo) on: 31-08-2018 06:34 AM

A mother of four, Uzoma Igbokwe has been arrested and remanded in prison for allegedly stolen of N3000 phone at Iba area of Lagos State.

The husband Chief Michael Igbokwe, has alleged that his house care-taker, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejieh has conspired with a junior policeman to send his wife, Uzoma, to prison over allegation of stealing phone of N3,000 in their compound.

The distraught husband who spoke with our correspondent said the junior officer disobeyed the area commanded after settling the dispute relating to phone theft in his apartment.
He explained that four days after a policeman came to arrest her wife, she was charged to court over allegation of stealing one Tekno phone with market price of N3,000.

Igbokwe, who spoke with our correspondent, said that Ejieh had been threatening to deal with him by calling the police who arrested his wife.

Igbokwe said: “My wife who is in the prison in the last two weeks was not at home when when the phone got missed in my compound at No, 22/24, Idera Street, Igboelerin, Lagos State. The care-taker, Ejieh came to the house the following day with police to arrest my wife without making his findings.

“Two weeks ago, as I was coming back from work and I heard some of my neighbours saying that my son, Akaraka will die for stealing their phone. I ignored them because I am not aware of what led to that. When I entered my apartment, I called my son, Akaraka and her elder sister, Chinagoro who was around to find out what happened. Chinagoro, the elder one told me she picked up a cell phone that belonged to one of our neighbour, called Faith. She also picked N1,000 that was with the phone. Chinagoro told me that she gave the phone and the money to her younger brother to keep for Faith.he explained that when Faith started looking for the phone and money, Chinagoro called her and handed the phone and the N1,000 to her in the presence of Akaraka.

Igbokwe said that the same Faith who commanded his children for picking her phone, came to back to them few hours later that the phone memory card was missing.

He added: “Moshood Nasir who claimed to own the phone came to my apartment and said that I should bring out my son, Akaraka, or I will die with him. That he is looking for his memory card and I asked him how much is the memory card cost. Faith’s mother interrupted that the memory card is 8G and it cost N5000. I told them to go because it was night and come back tomorrow morning so, I will give them the money to get another memory card to avoid problem in the compound.

“Faith’s mother, Nasir and other women in the compound started insulting me and my children calling us names thieves and robbers.

My daughter, Precious, challenged them for insulting and they engaged her in fight, while Gift ran to call my wife, Uzoma.

He said: “As everybody was busy settling the fight, Nasir, entered my sitting room and took away, my son, Akaraka, who is 13 years old. Luckily for me, one of the women that sell things at the corner of the house, called me, Chief, Chief; they have taken your son. I entered inside the sitting room to confirm if my son was inside because I told him not to come out from the apartment and he was not inside.

“When I came out looking for my son, I met Nasir, who told me that if not that I came to meet them at the bus stop, and that was around 8:30 to 9:00pm, he want kill my son Akaraka for stealing his phone. I took my son home that night and the following day, I went to my office and wrote a petition which I sent to Area E police Command concerning what happened to me and my family members.”

Igbokwe noted that the Commander of Area E police command, an Assistant Commissioner of Police promised to investigative the case.

He explained that Ejieh went to his apartment and removed the widows of my apartment.

He alleged that the care taker had destroyed some of my property in the apartment in the process of removing the widows, saying that he reported the case again to Area E Police command.

Also he said that before he came back his wife was arrested by policemen from Adolf police station at Ejieh instruction. Igbokwe said he had to contact his lawyer who followed him to the station.

However, Ejieh lied to my lawyer that my wife stolen a –phone in the compound.

He said: “I later sent one of my workers, Jerry Nwokoro to take food to my wife in the police station, and they didn’t allow him from seeing my wife. With hope, the police will released my wife as commander promised. But my my wife called me again that police had taken her to court for stealing phone.

“My wife left her two years old child and seven children at home. I cannot go to work again because I need to take care of the children at home.”

He appealed to Commissioner of Police in Lagos to intervene and investigate the case, adding that he was surprised that the commander of an area commander would gave order to a junior officer and disobeyed.

Also, he noted that his worker, Nwokoro was arrested and charged to court for snapping picture of police station.

33  Forum / Politics / Soyinka Explodes On Buhari’s Comment On Rule Of Law At NBA Conference, States Its Implications on: 30-08-2018 08:05 PM

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for suggesting that national security is superior to the rule of law.

He said Nigerians should expect certain actions that will justify the president’s declaration.

Buhari made the comment at the opening ceremony of the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Monday.

In a statement Thursday, titledi, Soyinka said: “At his first coming, it was ‘I intend to tamper with Freedom of the Press,’ and Buhari did proceed to suit action to the words, sending two journalists – Irabor and Thompson – to prison as a reward for their professional integrity.

“Now, a vague, vaporous, but commodious concept dubbed “national interest” is being trotted out as alibi for flouting the decisions of the Nigerian judiciary. President Buhari has obviously given deep thought to his travails under a military dictatorship, and concluded that his incarceration was also in the ‘national interest.’

“We have cause to be thankful for the advance warning, since not all rulers actually make a declaration of intent, but simply proceed to degrade the authority of the law as part of the routine business of governance,”
said Mr Soyinka.

“We have been there before. It should be of mere interest, not despondency, that this latest proclamation of dictatorial recidivism has also been made before an assembly of officers of the law, the Nigerian Bar Association. We expect a robust response from the NBA as part of its conclusions.”

Soyinka noted that there is no shortcut to democracy and that the history of law, even where uncodified, is as old as humanity.

“Numerous rulers have tried again and again to annul that institution,” he said.

“Sometimes, they appear to succeed, but in the end, they pay heavy forfeit. So does society.

“The rule of law, however, outlasts all subverters, however seemingly powerful. If the consequences for society in defence of the rule of law were not so costly, any new attempt would be merely banal and boring, hardly deserving of attention. We know, historically, where it will all

37  Forum / Politics / 2019: Drama As More Senators Threaten To Dump APC (Full Gist) on: 29-08-2018 07:42 PM

Some senators are threatening to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress should the party fail to adopt direct primaries for the 2019 elections, GISTMANIA has learnt.

Some of the lawmakers who spoke with our media source warned that the party will experience mass defection if it fails to adopt the direct primaries.

They alleged that some governors are applying pressure on the national leadership of the party to adopt indirect primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 elections.

If the party adopts the usual indirect primary, the senators said, the party will lose its majority status at the Senate. For them, the only way to reclaim leadership of the senate is an assurance of direct primaries by the party.

Direct primaries involves the participation of all party members in the selection of party candidates while indirect primaries involves use of delegates, often party leaders at local levels and political appointees as well as elected officials, to elect party candidates.

The APC used the direct primaries to elect its governorship candidate in Osun for next month’s governorship election. Prior to that, it often used the indirect primaries system.

The ruling party will on Thursday hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting since Senate President Bukola Saraki left the party.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on the party’s preparation for the 2019 elections especially its primaries.

APC NEC, the second highest organ of the ruling party, comprises the president, vice president, governors elected under the platform of the party as well as chairpersons of the party in the 36 states.

DIRECT OR INDIRECT PRIMARIES

Controversy over the choice of primaries for the party started in July when the chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, declared the party will adopt direct primary method in Osun State in choosing a candidate ahead of the state’s governorship election.

Mr Oshiomhole said the method remains the “most democratic way of handling the primary.”

The party went ahead employing the method to choose its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, but the process did not go down well with some of the aspirants.

Prominent among the voices against the method was the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who was runner up in the primary.

“I did not accept the outcome of the primary election. Why would I accept that kind of primary, where a direct primary was conducted in my state, one week after another form of primary was conducted in another state.

“And I hope the chairman will wake up. That chairman is going to destroy that party. The chairman of that party is going to destroy it,”
the lawmaker said.

However, many lawmakers, especially those who fell out with their governors in the last state congresses, wants the party to adopt direct primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 election.

MASS DEFECTION AWAITS – LAWMAKERS

Three senPREMIUM TIMESe with a media source expressed fears over the possibility of deploying indirect primaries for the APC primaries.

They alleged that some governors are laying pressure on the party leadership to deploy indirect primaries in order to replace them come 2019.

One of the lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity said the party should brace itself for mass defection if the NEC resolves to adopt indirect primaries.

“I am aware the National Chairman and members of the NWC are under pressure from state governors to adopt indirect primaries. Most of us suffered injustice during the Congress. Till this moment, the leadership is yet to resolve the issues. We will not tolerate injustice again.

“For me, the next NEC meeting is a make or mar meeting for our party. The APC has assured us of justice through direct primaries. If the party bows to governors, we will have no option than to leave the party. It will be mass exodus,”
the senator said.

In July, 14 APC senators left the party with at least 12 joining the major opposition, PDP.

Few weeks after their defection, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, also announced his defection to PDP.

Following his announcement, some senators and leaders of the APC have continued to mount pressure on Mr Saraki to relinquish his position since his party does not have majority at the senate.

Another senator who prefers not to be named said the party will lose its majority status at the Senate if the governors have their way.

The senator said the governors are ready to replace up to 90 per cent of the federal lawmakers if the party allows delegates to choose candidates for the party.

“With the war that exist between the party and Saraki, the party has confidentially resolved to return the senators because it is dangerous to come back on 25th when some people don’t have assurances.

“The governors have their individual agenda because the people whom they want cannot win election by direct primaries. If you cannot win by direct primary, it means that you are unpopular and the party cannot bring people who cannot win election.

“The party will be heading into trouble because it will be the Senate Presidency that will be at stake at the National Assembly. The point is that if you have an indirect primary election, the governors will replace up to 90 per cent of existing federal legislatures. Now, that will be playing into the hands of the PDP,”
the lawmaker said.

The senator said the party risks losing at least 20 senators if it tolls the line of indirect primary.

“The moment the Senate resumes, the conflicting figure we have now is that PDP are saying they are the majority, APC are saying they are the majority, what do you take for consideration? We have up 20, 30 APC senators without a ticket and they have nothing to lose (if they leave the party).

“Let us get there first, because we were kept in the party on the promise that it is going to be a direct primaries. If the party says Saraki must go, who is going to remove Saraki, is it the governors? We are in a tango. The governors must concede, they must keep their heads down.

“We’ll see what happens but I can tell you that the Saraki group are waiting for those eliminated in the APC to join them.”

Another senator, Shehu Sani, expressed his dislike for indirect primary in a statement sent to GISTMANIA on Wednesday.

“Indirect Primaries is a boulevard to corruption. It’s a seed to imposition, manipulation and systematic desecration of the anti-corruption crusade of the government and the party.

“Indirect Primaries is a bidding process, a slave market and an auction house where price tag is placed to honour,”
he noted.

Urging all members of the party to reject the method, Mr Sani described it as a “final step to consolidate a fraudulent congresses.”

APC At Liberty To Choose – Ambode

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has said that the party is at liberty to employ either direct or indirect primary in choosing its candidates.

He said this while responding to questions from journalists after an APC caucus meeting on Wednesday.

“The fact remains that the constitution of our party allows us to carry out our primaries and elections using direct or indirect primaries.

“We cannot disagree with the constitution so either direct or indirect primaries, you are at liberty to justify the choice you want to pick, once it suits your purpose and in line with constitution as the state determines.

“The whole essence is for us to deepen democracy and also allow our members to participate in this whole process. The idea is once you have party members that are able to take decisions on who should represent them, I think we would have gone a step higher and better than other parties, that makes us a better party,”
he said.

DECISION WILL BE MADE THURSDAY – APC

When contacted, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, said the party will take a position on the issue on Thursday.

“We’ll know the position of the party after tomorrow’s NEC meeting. The party has already made a proposal, it’s going to be either direct or indirect primary,” he said.

Even when two of their friends tried to stop the fight, the ladies continued.

Nigerian Facebook user Godson Osas who is based in India, shared the footage as he blasted them for disgracing their country.

He wrote;

Look at what a grown up Nigerian Benin ash*wo girls are doing in Mahavia Enclave Palam New Delhi India, disgracing themselves in another man’s land , tarnishing the image of Nigerians in India, this is why Indians are looking down on Nigerians , this is why Indian police are disturbing Nigerians here and there.

share until it gets to AINSCA so that they should call all these girls in other , both the mode of their dressing and hanging around at odd time are not encouraging, even their social media posts are so bad.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly just one game away from getting sacked as Manchester United manager following the Red Devils poor start to the new Premier League season.

Manchester United have lost two of their opening three games for the first time since 1992-93, the latest of which saw them lose 3-0 at home to Tottenham

Reports after the loss suggested that United board had no intention of sacking Jose Mourinho but the Daily Mail reports that chief executive Ed Woodward is now discussing the possibility of changing managers.

Woodward is reluctant to sack Mourinho, but a third successive defeat at the hands of Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday could be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

Players are reportedly already talking about the possibility of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane taking over as manager

The report suggests that there is a similar feeling of inevitability around Mourinho’s future as there was for Louis van Gaal’s before his sacking in 2016.
