Former spokesman of ex-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Segun Sowunmi, on Monday, cautioned President Bola Tinubu against betraying ex-governors of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, if he’s interested in contesting for a second term.

Showunmi said El-Rufai and Bello campaigned vigorously for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election but have been left out of power, a situation that looks like a betrayal.

In a statement he signed, the PDP chieftain said El-Rufai and Bello, having being facing political travails after leaving office despite helping Tinubu to become president.

He noted that the poor treatment meted to El-Rufai and Bello by Tinubu’s government goes against the long-term understanding between Yorubas and the north.

Showunmi said: “Upon reflection on the trajectory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his journey to the presidency, I find my mind wondering if my Yoruba Uncle is still the same person that I have always known and admired.

“You might need to think through this to understand me. The Yorubas already carry misconceptions about betrayal, that we don’t keep our end of the bargain. That we use and dump people. That we are cunning around the power play.

“Nasir el-Rufai, say what you will about him, he supported Asiwaju fully during the primaries and the general elections. Pray, how has he been treated? Same el-Rufai now has a security report that humiliated him during a Senate clearance made up of a majority of Tinubu men! What would the world call that but betrayal?

“Now, Yahaya Adoza Bello, who practically fought like a madman to give Asiwaju good numbers in Kogi, not to talk of how he funded and ran the youth campaign with vigour and energy to the extent that I was so jealous compared to the disorganised charade of my PDP.

“Same Yahaya Bello who superintended over the membership registration of APC that to date I cannot but remember comparing the bliss and pageantry to the joke that my PDP ran under the Edo emperor.

“Pray, is that the same GYB that is embarrassed to the level we are all witnessing? If this is not a betrayal, I would like someone to tell me what can be a betrayal than this.

“Do you plan to contest a second term or do you think your work will be done in one term of just four years? Shall tomorrow not come? Where are the men of yesterday?

“Akanni omo olodo ide, you know that on a deep level of nation-building, I won’t allow partisan politics to prevent me from saying it as I see it. You may need to understand that power must be shared and that the world over, people must feel protected by an arrangement they help bring about.”

The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, says the Federal Government requires 10 billion dollars in annual investment to revive the power sector for the next 10 years.

Adelabu said this in Abuja on Monday, at a one-day investigative hearing on halting the electricity tariff increase by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, organised by the Senate Committee on Power.

“For this sector to be revived, government needs to spend nothing less than 10 billion dollars annually in the next 10 years.

“This is because of the infrastructure requirement for the stability of the sector, but government can not afford that. And so we must make this sector attractive to investors and to lenders.

“So for us to attract investors and investment, we must make the sector attractive, and the only way it can be made attractive is that there must be commercial pricing,” he said.

Adelabu added: “If the value is still at N66 and government is not paying subsidy, the investors will not come.

“But now that we have increased the tariff for a band, there is interest being shown by investors.”

The minister said the major challenge in the sector was the absence of liquidity, saying that the sector had been operating on a subsidised tariff regime, given the absence of a cost-reflective tariff.

He said that the subsidy had not been funded over the years as huge liabilities were being owed to the generating companies and the gas companies.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Finidi George, as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team.
It’s being revealed the decision was made public in a statement released on Monday, following the NFF Board’s approval of the recommendation put forth by its Technical and Development Committee.

George, a 52-year-old former player of Ajax Amsterdam and Real Betis, will now take charge of the team. He had previously served as an assistant to the outgoing José Santos Peseiro and took over as interim coach after Peseiro’s departure post the Super Eagles’ successful campaign in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

George recently led the team in two friendly matches in Morocco, where they secured a historic 2-1 victory against Ghana but suffered a 0-2 defeat to Mali.
“George, a member of the so-styled ‘Golden Generation’ that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tunisia and emerged as the second most entertaining team in Nigeria’s debut at the FIFA World Cup finals in USA the same year, won 62 caps for Nigeria, including featuring at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals,” the NFF statement read.

Reflecting on his remarkable career, the statement highlighted George’s accomplishments, which encompass “gold, silver, and bronze medals from the 1992, 1994, 2000, and 2002 AFCON tournaments.”

One of the standout moments in George’s career was when he “provided the assist for the late Rashidi Yekini to score Nigeria’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal against Bulgaria in Dallas, USA on 19th June 1994,” as mentioned in the statement.
The immediate challenge for the new Super Eagles coach will be to lead the team to victory in two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic in Uyo and Abidjan, respectively, over the next five weeks.

Law Lee, an associate of embattled singer Naira Marley, has made a derogatory remark about the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Law Lee expressed his level of hatred for Mohbad.

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the popular, self-styled Onitsha-based pastor, who is better known as Odumeje, has claimedthat he will halt the naira's further depreciation against the dollar.

Odumeje spoke at the airport when he returned from London.

The cleric travelled to the UK earlier this month to host a comedy show. He often boasts that he possesses a plethora of spiritual powers, which he releases periodically to fix issues plaguing society.


He had boasted of being behind the naira’s appreciation with one of his powers, when the currency gained 12 percent against the dollar in early April, building on a 14 percent surge in March.

On Friday, the naira depreciated to N1,320 to the dollar at the parallel market.

At the official window, the local currency depreciated by 2.24 percent to N1,339.23 against the dollar on Friday, from N1,309.88 on April 25.

However, Odumeje said he is back to stop the naira’s slide like he has always done.

“This is Indaboski Bahose. The war and the battle. A man full of power and activities. The only man who tells you ‘I will bring down the dollar’ and gets it done. When I left the country, dollar began to rise; now, I am back, I will continue where I stopped,” Odumeje said.

On April 8, the local currency strengthened to N1,120 to the dollar at the black market and N1,230 at the official window.

Documents reveal that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is alleged to have made hefty withdrawals from state funds to cover advance school fees for his family members. According to a letter from the American International School of Abuja to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Bello paid $845,852.84 into the school's account since September 2021 for four family members currently enrolled and for any future enrollments.

The school confirmed the payment was made by Bello's alleged eldest son, Ali Bello, and stated that $760,910 remains after deducting fees for services already provided. This balance is set to be refunded to an account specified by the EFCC as their investigation into the allegations of money laundering against Yahaya Bello continues. The school also noted that no additional fees would be required for the Bello family children until their graduation.

These allegations surfaced after EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed that Bello withdrew $720,000 from state funds to pay his child's school fees in advance. Olukoyede highlighted this during a media session in Abuja, explaining that the former governor made these transactions through a bureau de change operator as his term neared its end, anticipating the end of his time in office.

A two-man robbery gang which allegedly specialized in robbing passengers of their belongings, have escaped being burnt alive by an angry mob in Umuahia, Abia State.

The incident happened beside popular Golden Guinea Breweries along Aba road in the Abia capital.

The robbers were alleged to be hypnotizing their victims or threatening them with sharp objects, before robbing them of their cash and mobile phones after which they hacked the phones to withdraw their money from banks.

However, their evil luck expired as an angry mob descended on them, beating them to pulp and destroying the tricycle they used.

It was gathered that a passenger, who was a former victim of their robbery, raised the alarm after identifying them on entering their tricycle again.

The alarm attracted a crowd which included some past victims of “One Chance”



Observing that the crowd was increasing, the suspected robbers allegedly confessed their crimes and started begging for mercy, according to a resident of Aba road, Moses Nnakwe.

But their plea for mercy did not earn them forgiveness as they were mercilessly beaten, with some people threatening to set them ablaze.

However, the intervention of some elders in the crowd saved the suspected robbers from being burnt alive.

Abia State Police Command was yet to speak on the incident as of the time of this report.
