The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed shock over the crash of the helicopter carrying Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in Kabba, Kogi State, on Saturday.
The PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, thanked God for the safety of Osinbajo, members of his entourage and the crew.
Ologbondiyan, however, called “for a thorough investigation into the traumatic incident adding that the safety of our leaders, and of course, all Nigerians, must be guaranteed, especially at this critical time.”
He also urged Nigerians irrespective of creed, ethnicity, and political affiliation, to continue to pray for God’s “continued intervention in our national life.”
According to reports, all passengers in a commercial bus, were killed in a fatal motor accident along Benin-Lagos expressway. It was gathered that the passengers boarded the popular Iyare motors and were travelling to Benin, Edo state capital before the crash on Friday, February 1st, which killed all on board including a man who just returned from Europe.
Master Uyi was said to have returned to Nigeria after some years only to be killed in the accident.
Last year, the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), commenced legal action against Iyare Motors over a fatal crash, which claimed the lives of seven persons in Sagamu, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The crash, which occurred at about 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, involved a white Toyota Hiace bus, belonging to transport company, Iyare Motors (registration number BEN 313 YZ) and a blue Mack truck (registration number MUS 730 XN). While travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, before the Sagamu Interchange, due to excessive speed, in an attempt to overtake a truck ahead, it lost control and rammed into the rear of the truck, which led to the death of seven passengers.
Three people have died and 17 others rescued as a passenger boat capsised at Bayeku area of Ikorodu, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Saturday.
The boat, said to belong to Eda Olaropin/Bayeku Association, conveying 20 passengers, ran into a submerged object and capzised mid-sea within the oke ira nla axis while heading to Bayeku area of Ikorodu, at 12:15pm on Saturday.
General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Damilola Emmanuel who confirmed the incident said an on the spot investigation carried out by LASWA revealed that the incident was caused by a submerged object beneath the waterways.
He said all passengers were wearing their life jackets but that casualty could have been as a result of fear or shock.
“Unfortunately, three persons were confirmed dead, while 17 persons were rescued alive.
“LASWA sympatises with the families of the deceased and the Agency is committed to achieving a zero incident rate on the waterways through enforced regulations and thorough risk management culture” Emmanuel said.
He, however, noted that the spot of the submerged wreck had been marked to avoid future occurrence while the State Government, in conjunction with the Marine Police would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, said that the integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari is responsible for the turnout being witnessed at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rallies across the country. Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State at the commissioning of the APC party secretariat donated by Alhaji Yakub Gobir, a Lagos based businessman, Lai Mohammed described the Peoples Democratic Party’s allegation that aliens attended the presidential rally of APC in Kano as hogwash.
Mohammed said, “Actually PDP is correct as the aliens they alleged graced the President Muhammadu Buhari’s rally in Kano state came from Mars and Jupiter. Let me tell you, they cannot explain the cultic followership of Muhammadu Buhari. I don’t think even President Buhari can explain it. How do you bring aliens from Niger or Cameroon? It does not make any sense. This crowd was organic and everywhere Buhari goes, that is the story. “While their own campaign is floundering and their camp is dwindling every day, Buhari’s crowd is increasing every day. The comedian has however stated that staying married is not an easy feat but credits his marriage to true friendship with his wife. Speaking to Saturday Beats, the comedian said,

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the presence of some governors from Niger Republic ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally in Kano state did not violate any Nigerian law, according to a report by TheCable.
INEC said this while reacting to comments trailing the visit.
Two governors from the country — Issa Moussa of Zinder and Zakiri Umar of Maradi — were part of those who received the president in Kano.
The visit had triggered criticisms from Nigerians who alleged foreign interference in the electoral process.
Uche Secundus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asked INEC fo disqualify Buhari from the presidential election over the development.
“They came with monies and mercenaries to influence elections in Nigeria,” Secondus alleged on Thursday.
But in an interview with TheCable, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, INEC director of Voter Education and Publicity, said the governors’ presence in Kano does not violate the law “as far as I am aware”.
He said the law only prohibits foreigners’ direct involvement in the electoral process.
“They are not allowed to participate as either candidates or voters,” Osaze-Uzzi told TheCable on Saturday.
“But they can only observe the process. As far as I am concerned, their presence does not violate the constitution.”
He also said the commission has no powers to disqualify the president, adding that only the courts can.
“INEC has no power to disqualify any candidate,” he said in response to the PDP’s request.
Popular Nigerian comic act, Ayobami Ajewole, better known as Woli Agba, has just shared that he was really frightened the first time he flew in an aircraft.
He reveals that this was years back, when the Alfa Sule Dance Troupe gave him an opportunity to travel by air from Lagos to Abuja for the first time in his life.
Before then, he stated in an interview that it never occurred to him that he could enjoy the luxury of air travel.

The immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Hon. Mashood Salvador, has attacked the Party in Lagos.
Salvador on Saturday said APC will defeat PDP in Lagos woefully because the opposition party is broke and cannot fund its campaigns, thereby showing a sign of early failure in the forthcoming elections.
Salvador said this while speaking with The Independent on Saturday.
According to him, the ruling APC would win because lagosians has lost hope in PDP and cannot be trusted.
“PDP cannot in any way match to APC because from the look of things, the party does not exist in the State anymore.
“We are going to deliver one million votes to the party in Lagos. I know that the people are already working assiduously to ensure that we achieve that and continue to give good governance to our people, through our next level agenda.
“PDP is not a party to trust, it has failed the people and the people in turn have rejected it.
“The party’s inability to campaign in the state is also an indication that it has accepted defeat ahead of the forthcoming general elections,” Salvador said.

8. An Ikeja High Court has told alleged kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans that there was no proof that he was tortured by the police.
Giving a ruling admitting Evans’ June 11, 2017 confessional statement into evidence, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, noted that the 1999 Constitution did not require that statements to the police must be in a specific form.

The meeting between the Nigerian government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has ended in a deadlock again.
Both sides were in an emergency meeting earlier on Friday in Abuja.
Chris Ngige, Minister for Labour and Employment, said the Nigerian government had met the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) halfway.
He said this while addressing newsmen after the meeting between the striking lecturers and representatives of the Nigerian government in Abuja. On the question of whether the government had met ASUU’s demand for N50billion, he said: “We have met it halfway. We have offered what we have; we don’t have N50 billion. The Minister of Finance has also said so, that the Federal Government cannot afford N50billion now.”
On his part, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU National President, said the meeting made some progress, and they would present the government’s offer to members and provide feedback to government at its next meeting.
He also declined to provide details of the offer provided by government to the union.
He said: “We presented the feedback from members on the previous discussions with the Federal Government and we have another set of information for our members, and until we give them, we are not going to speak about it.”
The next meeting between the union and the government is scheduled for next Thursday.
