Channels Television reporter, Joshua Rogers, who was abducted from his residence in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has regained freedom.
The journalist who was forcefully taken away in a Channels Television-branded vehicle, was released around 10 p.m. on Friday, April 12, unharmed, about 24 hours after being abducted from his home in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor area of Port Harcourt on Thursday, April 11.
The management of the television station has confirmed Mr Rogers’ release in a brief statement. It read;

“Channels Television reporter, Joshua Rogers, who was abducted last night in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been freed. We thank our viewers and all those who expressed concern over the unfortunate incident.”

A dispatch rider, Monday Osazuwa, dazzled the Special Offences Court in Lagos with revelation on Friday when he narrated how the embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, instructed him on different instances to collect the sum of $3 million cash in tranches.

Osazuwa, who was led in evidence in chief by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), told the Court that he had been a dispatch rider at Zenith Bank since 2001 before joining the CBN as a contract staff member in 2014.

The witness, who testified before Justice Raman Oshodi, said he was later appointed as a senior supervisor (full-time) in charge of recording and filing documents while working in the CBN Governor’s office in Lagos.

He stated that when he collected money for his boss (Emefiele), he would take it to his residence at Iru Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“The highest amount I collected was $1m, all in cash. Some weeks later, the businessman also called me, and I collected $850,000, $750,000, and $400,000 in cash in different tranches.

“I have never been rewarded, paid, or given anything. I was doing it out of faithfulness, and he knows it, but he never once said, ‘Take this,” the witness said.

Recall that the EFCC arraigned Emefiele on Monday, April 8, on 23 counts bordering on abuse of office.

He is being tried for alleged abuse of office and fraud to the tune of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

Meanwhile, Justice Oshodi had granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N50 million.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Emefiele in June last year.

The United States, US, President, Joe Biden has vowed to defend Israel in the ongoing war.

Biden warned that Iran will not be allowed to succeed against Israel.

Addressing journalists, Biden warned Iran against attacking Israel.

The talented actor lost his life in a boating accident, and this caused a lot of grief in the industry.

Within four months of being in 2024, Nollywood has announced the death of at least four actors who have all made their mark in the movie industry.

In the month of March, Nollywood and the entirety of Nigeria lost John Okafor, also known as Mr Ibu, and later that month, Amaechi Muonagor also died from illness, just like Mr Ibu.

This April started with a bang, as Nollywood lost another person yet again, and this time around, it was actress Aderounmu Adejumoke.

Junior Pope’s death on the 10th of April hit a little bit different because of the circumstances surrounding his death.

At first, videos circulating showed evidence that he was dead. However, later on, it was confirmed that he was alive, after receiving treatment from a native doctor.

The good news was short lived, as he later gave up the ghost after battling for his life in the hospital.

Junior Pope is survived by his wife and three young sons, who are yet to get a word out about his death.

Nollywood actresses, Destiny Etiko and Uju Okoli have blasted their colleague, Sarah Martins for blaming Adanma Luke for Junior Pope’s death.

It was reported that Adanma Luke was the producer of the movie, which Junior Pope and his colleagues had traveled for, where they met their deaths.

Following the news of his death, Sarah took to her Instagram page to drag the actress noting how her recklessness had cost her the lives of people. She described the actress’ movie as a low-budget movie trying to raise local standards without providing the necessary amenities.

A former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has advised indigenes and residents of Ibadan not to take the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, seriously.

Ladoja, who is the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, noted that Ajibola cannot stop the Olubadan-designate, Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, from becoming the Olubadan.

Ladoja made these declarations while addressing journalists at his Ondo Street, Ibadan, residence shortly after he observed the two-Rakah Eid el-Fitri prayer along with other Muslim faithful on Wednesday.

It was gathered that Ajibola on Tuesday declared that Olakulehin is not fit to become the Olubadan.

But Ladoja, while addressing journalists, noted that Ajibola is entitled to his opinion and cannot stop Olakulehin from becoming Olubadan.

“He is entitled to his opinion. I know him as a lawyer, not a medical doctor. So, he cannot say that Olakulehin is not fit to become Olubadan. You know that Osi Balogun has already declared Olakulehin fit for the position, so who do we believe? We cannot listen to him. People should not take him seriously.

“Ajibola is not a 20-year-old man; he is not a 30 or 40-year-old man; he is above 80 years old, so we can expect him to act like a youth. Ajibola can be substituted to nominate Olubadan if he does not come to the meeting.

“I have already slated a meeting for Friday because tomorrow is a public holiday; if he does not come, he can be substituted,” Ladoja stated.

A former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has described as troubling the alleged attempt to distort the healthy competition by dominant players on the Lagos-London route occasioned by the entry of Air Peace.

Ezekwesili said the market regulator in the aviation sector must immediately nip in the bud the predatory moves of those dominant airlines on Lagos-London route once it gets all the facts.

The former Minister buttressed that hostile pricing models in any competitive market is predatory and are usually ruled against and sanctioned by the market regulator.

Her statement comes on the heels of the alarm raised by the Chairman of Nigerian indigenous carrier Air Peace, Allen Onyema, that foreign carriers operating the Nigeria-UK route were allegedly conspiring to send Air Peace out of international operations by crashing airfares on the route.

Onyema alleged that there is an “unspoken alliance” among foreign airlines to use lower pricing to eject Air Peace from the Nigeria-London route.

“If they take out Air Peace prematurely, this country will pay dearly for it, 10 times over, billions will be lost, there will be another heavy strain on the naira,” he said.

Reacting to the development, Ezekwesili, in a post on her X handle on Wednesday, said she found the latest developments where dominant players on the Lagos-London route appear to be trying to distort the healthy competition occasioned by the entry of Air Peace into the market troubling.

She said: “As one who loves the market competition economic model, I followed the @flyairpeace Lagos-London route entry with profound interest and excitement at how happy it made Nigerians.

“Nothing beats consumer satisfaction in any product or service market. Nigerians may not all grasp how market principles and not government control have always served us best but they do enjoy it whenever it happens well- eg. in Telecommunications.

“Hostile pricing models in any competitive market is predatory and are usually ruled against and sanctioned by the Market Regulator. Predatory pricing is when the dominant airlines try to discourage entry of low-cost competitors or regional players.

“It is for this reason that I find the latest developments where dominant players on the Lagos-London route appear to be trying to distort the healthy competition occasioned by the entry of Air Peace into the market troubling.

“The moves of those dominant airlines on that route appear predatory and need to be nipped in the bud immediately, once the regulator gets all the facts.

“The unhealthy development is worthy of serious regulatory action- establish the facts and act.

“The market dynamics must be allowed to work according to the basic principles of competition and not predation that will ultimately harm the customers.”

The Olola of Ola in the Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Johnson Ajiboye, has been sacked by Justice Lawrence Arojo of the Osun State High Court.

Ajiboye was appointed by Governor Ademola Adeleke on January 3rd, 2024, while presiding over the State Executive meeting despite a pending court case and restraining orders.

There has been a crisis in the community since Adeleke selected the monarch, in which the head of kingmakers, Dr Femi Fasanya, boycotted and disowned the installation process of Oba Johnson Ajiboye in January 2024.

Following the incident, the opposing family house, Olugbode represented by David Salako and Kola Sangoniran, filed a motion with suit number HEJ/3/2020 seeking the sack of Oba Johnson Ajiboye and nullification of his appointment letter by Governor Adeleke.

Justice Arojo granted the six interlocutory injunctions in the motion filed by the opposing family on March 25, 2024, over alleged illegality.

Commenting on the development, the family through its lawyer, Barrister Fatimah Adeshina confirmed that the stool of Olola of Ola has been declared vacant by the order granted by Osun State High Court.

Olugbode in a petition dated April 10 2024 by one Kolawole Sangoniran addressed to Osun Police Command envisaged anarchy in Ola, stating “the deposed king is planning to confer chieftaincy title on some people at the Olola of Ola’s palace.”
