2  Forum / Politics / After 5 years of closure, Borno Govt reopens Maiduguri-Dikwa road on: 12-02-2020 09:02 AM
The Borno State Government has reopened the Maiduguri-Dikwa road after a closure that lasted for 5 years due to the Boko Haram insurgency in the region.

Naijauto, com learned the decision to close the 86km road to motorists and commuters in 2015 came about when the activities of the terrorist group reached its climax in the North. However, the governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, reopened the road on Sunday, in the company of Maj-Gen Olusegun Adeniyi, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, and Brigade General Abdul Khalifa, the General Officer in charge of 7 Division, Operation Lafiya Dole.

In his opening remark, Gov.Zulum lauded the efforts of the Nigerian military towards combating the Boko Haram terrorist group that have been attacking motorists and people in Borno State.

He further assured that the reopened road would restore socio-economic activities in the state, with emphasis on the fishing business popular in the region.
He stated that with improved security, motorists would ply the road freely without being escorted by the military.

The governor cautioned the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) along with other unions against escorting commuters and motorists plying the highway.

He said,

"The Nigerian law does not prohibit the transportation of good within the state. So therefore, you cannot ask a driver to pay money for transporting sachet water anywhere within the state.
How can you transport pure water and tomatoes and you are ask to pay N19, 000 for a six-tyre vehicle.
This government and the people will fight to see an end to these activities in Borno."

Gov. Zulum also used the occasion as an opportunity to donate six patrol vehicles to the army stationed at Mafa, saying that it was his way of supporting the federal government's determination to reduce insurgency.

Maj-Gen Adeniyi, on his own part, warned NURTW officials against demanding unnecessary levies and charges on road users which will expose them to hardship.

He said,

"It is generally known that it is very difficult for business to thrive if there is no peace and security. It is also a known fact that Boko Haram is using some of the fishing businesses to fund their campaign of terror."

He also cautioned the community against providing monetary assistance to the Boko Haram group.

He said,

"If we find you collaborating with Boko Haram or given them gratification secretly, we will stop you from doing the fishing activities"

The NURTW Chairman of Borno State, Alhaji Bello Moduganari and the head of Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Abacha Mandala appreciated the state government for reopening the road.

15  Forum / Politics / Consumption of fuel spikes with ₦10.1 billion as subsidy - PPPRA on: 18-12-2019 07:22 AM
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has said that the average daily consumption of fuel in the country has now reached 67.66 million liters.

Based on the data curated for daily consumption of petrol in September, Naijauto learnt that there is a 33.89 million liters increase when compared to the current average daily consumption.

This data was curated from November 28, 2019 - December 4, 2019, showing that about 67.76 million liters of fuel were discharged on a daily basis.

While disclosing this on Monday, the PPPRA stated that the fuel subsidy was ₦21.22 per liter during the period. Meaning that during the seven-day period, NNPC obtained ₦10.1 billion as the petrol subsidy.

The Executive secretary of PPPRA, Abdulkadir Saidu, who gave further explanations regarding the price of petrol during the seven-day period said the cost of petrol in the international market is $582.80 per metric tonne.

He stated that,

"The landing cost and Expected Open Market Price for petrol averaged ₦146.85/liter and ₦166.22/liter respectively for the NNPC imports only."

The petroleum pricing regulatory agency went further to disclose that the total fuel receipt collated between November 28, 2019 - December 4, 2019, stood at 473,602 million liters.
For diesel, the total receipt was 68,366 million liters while kerosene stood at 20,327 million liters.

PMS operators are of the view that the increase in fuel consumption will also increase the petrol subsidy,as NNPC is the only importer of fuel into Nigeria. With the data gotten from PPPRA,the Federal Gvernment will spend ₦750.81 billion on fuel subsidy come 2020.

While being interviewed by ESPN, Tevez had gone ahead to narrate his most memorable moment when he was in Manchester United.
He said,

"At Manchester United training, players would turn up with a Ferrari or a Lamborghini,
.Everyone, even the worst player, would have a Ferrari.'
I turned up in the Audi that the club gave you and they all bugged me about it, as if it was a Fiat 600."

Tevez told Rooney about how he was being ridiculed over the Audi by other teammates. Rooney told him to take his Lamborghini.

18  Forum / Law and Crime / DPR seals NNPC filling station in Uyo for flouting safety rules on: 7-12-2019 06:33 AM
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Akwa Ibom State said it has sealed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation mega fuel station in Uyo for allegedly discharging fuel products and at the same time, dispensing to customers.

The operations controllers of the regulatory agency, Mr.Tamunoiminabo Kingsley Sundays revealed this to newsmen while carrying out a routine inspection on the state capital on Thursday.
NNPC was sealed by DPR for discharging and selling fuel at the same time

He voiced out his disappointment over the fuel station's unsafe practice of off-loading fuel while selling it to customers. An incident which he pointed out as a grave offence.

He said,

"The NNPC filling station was caught, some hours ago, discharging and at the same time dispensing to the public, the place was crowded with vehicles and buyers, which is a serious offence."

Mr. Tamunoiminabo stated that all fuel stations must be done with off-loading petroleum products before selling to motorists and not doing both at the same time.

Naijauto gathered that 70% of the fire incident that broke out at filling stations was as a result of discharging the products.

He said,

"We want to see minimum people who are really concerned with discharge operation, but surprisingly, NNPC does not know simple safety requirements.
We asked the manager of that station if he knew that it was unsafe to discharge fuel and dispense at the same time, the manager said he was not aware."

He emphasized on the need for NNPC managers and staff members to go through proper training in order to equip themselves with safety standards and regulations for running a filling station.

The NNPC manager of the sealed fuel station, Augustine Effiong, confessed to the unsafe practice deployed by the filling station, adding that they were directed to off-load the petroleum products either in the morning or evening. They were told not to discharge in the afternoon.

He said,

"We were told to discharge in the morning hours, provided it was not the dispensing line we were discharging to."
