By Nnanna Morgan

Love or hate her, Betta is bettering humanity. She is using her platform to advance common good. She is not new to service. Young, energetic and passionate, she is full of dreams. She is creative and innovative. And she has proven these times without number. She is a go-getter. Anything she touches, turns to gold. She is one with Midas touch.

Appointing her to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as Minister by the Tinubu administration is therefore a right decision. She is a round peg in a round hole. Her experience and exposure qualify her thus. As former Commissioner of Health in Cross River State, Betta proved her mettle. She showed capacity. When in the role as National Woman Leader of the APC, she exhibited resilience. On the two aforementioned positions, she discharged her jobs creditably and professionally. Today, she is a leading light to womanhood. She is an everyday example of brain and beauty.

With her, realising the fundamental objective principle of State policy which states that ensuring the welfare and security of citizens will be the objective of government is achievable. At her Ministry, Betta has continued to show uncommon determination, zeal and obligation to the wellbeing, welfare and security of Nigerians. She loves Nigeria. She thinks her country. This is why in less than 3 months after being appointed minister, she has not only hit the ground running; she has already left indelible marks for which history will be kind to her.

As Dr. Betta Edu takes charge of the Ministry, Nigerians are upbeat. This is more so that her successes are already being widely felt. Is anyone surprised? Her journey from a young Student Leader to National Party Leader and a Federal Minister sparks hope. Her story is truly inspirational. Her appointment has generated optimism and enthusiasm among Nigerians. She is evidently regarded as a blessing to Nigerian youths and the hundreds of thousands of N-Power beneficiaries who are looking to her for strengthening the social investment scheme and restoring their hopes. And she has not failed.

Not only has she revamped the Social Investment Programme (SIP), she has renamed it the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, thus connecting it to the President’s agenda. The main objective is to provide monthly stipends to 15 million vulnerable households to improve their standard of living and alleviate the effect of economic challenges, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies. In order to enhance transparency and prevent the previously identified issues of fraud associated with the programme, she has completely restructured it to exclusively admit individuals with biometric identification. This stringent condition ensures a precise focus on those who are authentically less privileged. Her determination to reach the disadvantaged knows no limits. Betta is making an impact on the nation whilst giving her citizens profound confidence. Not only is she using her platform to advance common good, she is proving herself to be a keystone for growth and development in the country with distinct accomplishments.

It, therefore, comes as no surprise that her outstanding performance in the Ministry is leaving a lasting impression. Even the naysayers cannot deny the significant strides she has made. Her training and exposure have been nothing short of impressive. The various degrees she has obtained in Medicine and Public Health from distinguished international institutions like the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine among others undoubtedly played a crucial role in her achievements. Her journey exemplifies the concept of preparedness meeting opportunity, as she defies conventional expectations to lead alongside seasoned men and women.

The Igbo adage which says that a child that washes his/her hands clean will sure dine with the Kings has Betta in mind. She has washed clean. She is foresighted. A super visionary! Who else would believe a woman born in 1986 could become such a personality of influence, charting a unique course for her generation; and has emerged as a leader in her own right. While many of her peers are searching for employment, she has taken on the role of gatekeeper and protector for them, advocating for the vulnerable in many ways. As a champion of equality, equity, economic justice and political stability, Betta stands for the vulnerable-children, youths, women, poor and the aged. Betta is good, BETTER and Best.

Nigeria is proud of Betta’s contributions. She is indeed a rising star and her prominence is undeniable. As she marks another year in her life journey, we say 37 HEARTY CHEERS to her. At the end, she will be remembered and honoured as an indisputable icon. She will be remembered as a distinguished woman known for her unyielding determination, courage and unwavering resilience. History will record her as one with a heart of gold-who came, saw and conquered. May the sun continue to shine brightly on her path as she, alongside President Tinubu, reshape history and rekindle hope among Nigerians and global populace.

Kudos to a great woman of inspiration. Ride on Honourable Minister of the Federal Republic. March on. Accomplish more for us.

Inside Eti-Osa Community Where Notorious Land Grabber, Ahmed Tajudeen Unleash Terror on Helpless Residents, Threatens Life of  Baba Adinni of Eti Osa.

By: Bolaji Israel|Fashina Shakiru

The residents of Ojomu community, Ajiran land, in Eti Osa local government of Lagos State, are living in constant fear due to the activities of violent land grabbers.

These land grabbers operate with impunity, using threats, intimidation, harassment, forceful seizure of lands, and even resorting to violence and sometimes murder. Despite possessing all the required official documents, they resell the lands to multiple unsuspecting buyers. The situation has escalated to the point where innocent lives are being lost, and human rights are being violated.

Curiously, the Lagos State Anti Land Grabbing Law Sections 2 and 4 clearly criminalises use of threat to secure entry to land for self or anyone, stipulating a fine of 5 million naira maximum and five years prison term or both.

The lack of proper enforcement of the extant Laws has however left the victims looking to the government for urgent succour.

It was gathered that even traditional authorities are not spared as the hardline marauders are emboldened by support allegedly received from police, top government officials and personnel of the ministry of lands to get security protection and procure forged documents.

One victim, Dayo Joshua, shared his harrowing experience in Chevy Estate, Ajiran. In 2012, he acquired a land, obtained all necessary papers, erected fence, put a gate and employed security guard to properly secure the property. However, he was called in 2021 while at work that some people on the orders of Frank Enem, also known as Frajek, were bulldozing his fence. Frajek is known to move around with police escort. Joshua ran to the police at zone 2 and both parties were ordered to maintain status quo. While the police investigation lasted for about a year, Frajek never honoured invitations.

In August 2022, on the day both parties were invited for final resolution, while Joshua was waiting at zone 2, Frajek was on the property in company of police officers from Alagbon Ikoyi beating up guards and building on the land.

Despite complains at Ikoyi, construction continued while Joshua kept going to court to seek justice.  This is just one example of the rampant abuse of power by land grabbers in the community.

For Joshua, he will not back down but continue to explore all judicial means to get justice though so discouraging and hard to be law abiding in view of the circumstances. "I can't be pushed aside, I will pursue this matter to the last in court and seek justice."

Recognizing the need to address this issue, the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has raised the alarm and called for action. Comrade Alex Omotehinse, the president of CHSR, highlighted the need to end the abuse of human rights and the violation of laws in Lagos State.

Sources said the gang of land grabbers, led by one Mr. Ahmed Tajudeen, and Mr Wasiu Akinsemoyin aka WAAB operate in blatant disregard for the traditional authorities of Ajiran land and the laws of Lagos State. They bypass legitimate land documentation and ignore valid agreements between landowners and the bona fide families in Ojomu community.

It was said that the gang threatened the life of Alhaji Yekini Bakare, Balogun Ajironland, and Baba Adinni Eti-Osa Mosque recently over a land grabbing matter.

Emboldened by the unchecked impunity spree, thugs were said to have written unlawful inscription and notices on various genuinely allotted property, scaring away rightful owners as frantic efforts to get the state government's intervention proved abortive. Some residents were even given barbaric eviction notice.

Findings also revealed that the violent thugs chase away genuine owners of property, hijack it and sell to a second party, supervise hurried construction and sale to the third party in a bid to complicate things and circumvent the process of justice. As such, over 150 cases of litigation abound in court with related pattern.

These activities not only violate the rights of the rightful landowners but also undermine the authority of the traditional institutions vested in the office of Ojomu of Ajiran Land, Oba Tijani Akinloye (Sateru II).

The CHSR has however demanded that both the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force put an end to the harassment and intimidation faced by authentic landowners in Ojomu community.

The CHSR also urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reverse the situation by restoring peace of mind to residents, and honour and pride to the legally recognized custodians of the culture and heritage of Ajiran land.

“Just like the various petitions by concerned community stakeholders and victims of unlawful activities of land grabbers in Ajiran Land provided insights into the magnitude of the challenge, CHSR also worried that land grabbers are becoming more entrenched than hitherto imagined in spite of a Task Force established to nip the menace in the bud.

“We are saddened by the killing, on Tuesday 18, April, of Sheriff Salami in cruel circumstances suspected to be a fallout of the deceased’s opposition to activities of land grabbers in the community.

“We call on Lagos State government and the Police to probe the death of Sheriff Ishola Salami who was a son of late Bashorun Of Ajiran Land, Chief Ishola Salami. We demand justice for the deceased Sheriff Ishola Salami who left behind three daughters and an aged mother.

“CHSR is however more concerned that most of the land being forcibly confiscated by these land grabbers are legally and validly documented by the original owners most of whom are in possession of genuine Deed of Assignment and with full authorisation of the relevant families from whom the lands were purchased.

Mr. Ahmed Tajudeen, who claims to be an indigene of the community, has denied being a land grabber.

Dr. Arase noted that as a people we must rise and stand firm against those who threaten "the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian State" as according to him no security Agency can deliver on its mandate without the support of the people.

He spoke at the International Symposium on countering
organized crimes in Africa held in Abuja.

Dr. Arase who was represented by Bar. Brighten Saagwe, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics of the Commission declared that "our will, therefore must be strong because our faith lies in the indivisibility of Nigeria"

Dr. Arase said for the Security Agencies " it has become not only a statutory mandate but a moral imperative to re-enact our old fighting force, re-strategise and redesign our tactics and promptly arrest and contain the growing insecurity challenge in our country".

He said that on no account should "we shy away from whatever becomes necessary within the ambit of the law to provide the needed security for the citizens. He noted that terrorism or crime has no conscience and spares no one, whether rich, poor, educated or uneducated and therefore " no matter what it takes, let us stand together and win this war against organized crime and terrorism ".

The PSC Chairman appealed that the supreme task for our generation " is to give hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak and protection to the defenceless".

He said organized crimes, no doubt, have negative effects on economic development of nation's and the need to fight same need not to be over-emphasized ".

"Mankind must put an end to organised crime or organized crime will put an end to mankind" and on the " keyboard of life, let us as a nation always keep a finger on the escape key to survive" he said.

He advised that in this war against organized crime, there should be more synergy between security agencies as well as prompt criminal intelligence-sharing. He also suggested that Government should adopt a mix of both kinetic and non-kinetic approach for effective and result oriented security management.

Dr. Arase promised that the Police Service Commission under his watch shall collaborate with other agencies of Government to fight organized crime in Nigeria.

The symposium with theme: Drug Crimes, Terrorism, Arms Trafficking, Marine Crimes, Environmental crime and auto theft was put together by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch and other partners.

The United States Deputy Treasury Secretary, Wally Adeyemo who visited Nigeria last week as part of U.S. efforts to strengthen economic ties between both countries and a day after President Bola Tinubu, at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2023, advised Nigerians abroad to return home, has warned its citizens to reconsider travelling to Nigeria due to increased risk of crime such as terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and attack by armed gangs in the country.

An updated travel advisory issued on September 20 by the U.S. Department of State included a flat “do not travel” warning for Borno, Yobe, Kogi, and Adamawa states due to terrorism and kidnapping; Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states due to kidnapping.

Similar travel advisory was also issued for Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states (with the exception of Port Harcourt) due to crime, kidnapping, and armed gangs.

Recall that recent attacks in the southeast such as the brutal killing of Late Professor Dora Akunyili’s husband, Dr Chike Akunyuli on the streets of Anambra, kidnapping and beheading of Anambra lawmaker, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, kidnapping and killing of aged parents of Imo journalist, Joshua Ayanbola and many more have kept people living in these areas on edge. Meanwhile, despite the best efforts of the police and other security agencies to identify the perpetrators of these dastardly acts, many of them have continued with their wicked enterprise defying police.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of state while placing these states on Level 4 – the highest risk category, warned that the security situation in the states is fluid and unpredictable due to widespread terrorist activity, inter-communal violence, and kidnapping; and security operations to counter these threats may occur without warning.

“Kidnappings for ransom occur frequently, often targeting dual national citizens who have returned to Nigeria for a visit, as well as U.S. citizens with perceived wealth. Kidnapping gangs have also stopped victims on interstate roads”, the advisory read.

“Terrorists continue plotting and carrying out attacks in Nigeria. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting shopping centres, malls, markets, hotels, places of worship, restaurants, bars, schools, government installations, transportation hubs, and other places where crowds gather. Terrorists are known to work with local gangs to expand their reach.

“There is civil unrest and armed gangs in parts of Southern Nigeria, especially in the Niger Delta and Southeast regions; and armed criminality and gangs, including kidnapping and assaults on Nigerian security services is also pervasive in this region.” It added.

This advisory further takes Nigeria few years backwards despite the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to build investors confidence and get more investment into the country.

President Tinubu during his speech at UNGA 2023 said the world would ignore Nigeria at its own peril, underscored the need for the global body to work with Africa to address the challenges of poverty and terrorism. He pledged not to rest until people had arisen out of poverty even if it required decisions at home that made him “temporarily unpopular.”

It is however not surprising that despite the assurances of mutual respect and possible collaboration from the United Nations General Assembly President, Dennis Francis, countries like the United States of America have and will continue to issue out warning to their citizens about Nigeria and other countries, seemingly not in a bid to discredit the country but to ensure her citizens make informed decisions and stay safe.

Hibiscus Tea Is the Belly-Flattening Brew That Protects Your Heart and Fends Off UTIs

Out of all the trending superfoods in the world of health and wellness, perhaps none is as beautiful as the hibiscus flower. That’s right: The pretty pink flower we all know and love is not only edible, it’s also a nutritional powerhouse. It's even a hit with celebs — Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo said she loves treating herself to a cup of the tropical sip.

Hibiscus tea is bursting with so many health benefits that more and more women are making it their go-to beverage. Find out how hibiscus can blast bloat, lower your blood pressure, block UTIs and more — and how to make your own homemade brew.

The health benefits of hibiscus tea

Hibiscus is a flowering plant found in tropical climates throughout the world, and there are hundreds of different species. But the variety most often used to make tea, roselle (or Hibiscus sabdariffa), is native to west Africa. It produces lush, white petals and crimson-hued sepals (the part of the plant that surrounds the petals). The petals, sepals and leaves are all edible. While brewing up a cuppa is the most common way to enjoy hibiscus, the flower is also used in sauces, jams, salads and even stews.

What makes hibiscus tea so special? It boasts high levels of the antioxidant plant pigment known as anthocyanins, which gives the plant's sepals their hue. What's more, hibiscus tea is naturally high in vitamin C and polyphenols, and it has antibacterial properties. No wonder it's one of nature's best health-boosting sippers! Ready to see what hibiscus can do for you?

1. Hibiscus tea lowers blood pressure

In a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, researchers had folks with high blood pressure age 30 to 70 years old drink three cups of hibiscus tea daily for six weeks. At the end of the study, those who sipped the brew dailoy lowered their systolic (top number) blood pressure by more than 7 points and their diastolic (bottom number) blood pressure by more than 3 points. What's more, they lowered their mean arterial pressure, the average pressure in the arteries, by nearly 5 points. And that was all achieved without changing their diet or exercise routines.

2. Hibiscus tea tames high cholesterol

Hibiscus tea has also been touted for its ability to help rein in high cholesterol levels. A review of studies published in the journal Fitoterapia suggests drinking up to three cups of hibiscus tea daily lowered folks' "bad" LDL cholesterol levels considerably. And a separate study in ISRN Gastroenterology found those who drank hibiscus tea boosted their "good" HDL cholesterol levels 35% more than those who drank black tea. Hibiscus tames oxidative stress and inflammation that can contribute to plaque build up in arteries.

Hibiscus is a triple threat when it comes to lowering blood pressure. It acts as a diuretic to flush excess pressure-spiking salt, it opens arteries for improve blood flow, and the slows the release of hormones that constrict blood vessels. (Click through to our sister publication to see the 20 best blood pressure hacks for keeping your numbers in check.)

3. Hibiscus tea steadies blood sugar

Because hibiscus tea encourages healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels, it's also a smart choice when it comes to blocking blood sugar swings. A study published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found hibiscus tea (also known as sour tea) lowers both blood sugar levels and lipid levels in the blood.

Credit goes to hibiscus's anthocyanins and flavonoids. These two compounds inhibit the activity of an enzyme known as as alpha-glucosidase, which breaks downs complex carbs into simple sugars. This slows the absorption of glucose in the bloodstream to fend off post-meal blood sugar spikes.

4. Hibiscus tea lowers body fat

Researchers reporting in the journal Food & Function found that supplementing with hibiscus daily significantly reduced fat accumulation. In fact, folks lost over 3 pounds in 12 weeks without making any other lifestyle changes. Plus, they trimmed more than a third of an inch off their waist and noticeably reduced their body fat percentage.

How does hibiscus tea help power off pounds? It's micronutrients open up blood vessels, "helping more oxygen get to our tissues to burn fat," explains Michelle Schoffro-Cook, PhD, DNM, author of Super Powered Immunity. Plus it lowers inflammation and helps curb hunger pangs so you're less likely to overindulge.

5. Hibiscus tea tames belly bloat

Notice your abdomen seems a little puffy lately? While it can be caused by salty foods or gas, swelling is also quite common in the early stages of perimenopause. Progesterone, which has diuretic effects, typically goes into decline before estrogen does. And since estrogen can increase fluid retention, a relative excess can result in the bloat and puffiness. It can take a year or more for estrogen to drop to levels that ease fluid retention naturally, explains Laura Corio, MD, an Og/Gyn based in New York. That's where hibiscus tea can help. Dr. Corio says its chlorogenic acid, anthocyanins and flavonoids have a natural diuretic action that tames excess fluid retention.

6. Hibiscus tea cures + prevents urinary tract infections

Whether you sip it hot or iced, hibiscus tea keeps your bladder free of infection-causing bacteria. Research in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology found drinking the equivalent of two tall glasses (about 4 cups) of hibiscus tea each day can trim three days off your recovery time when you have a urinary tract infection (UTI). The brew prevents bacteria from sticking to bladder walls, explain nutrition experts Mira Calton, CN, and Jayson Calton, PhD, authors of The Micronutrient Miracle. When hibiscus’s anthocyanins are excreted through urine, they wipe out infectious bacteria in the bladder and urinary tract.

Plus, drinking the delicious brew can keep the bothersome infection from returning! Its flavonoid compounds have a natural antibacterial activity. And its gossypetin also prevents the formation of bacterial biofilms that can cause repeated UTIs. It's so effective, researchers found hibiscus tea reduced the risk of recurrent UTIs by as much as 77%.  (Click through for more UTI prevention supplements.)

7. Hibiscus tea fends off colds and flu

Who knew? Hibiscus tea is nature’s secret against sick season! The tart-berry tea is loaded with ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, which helps improve the immune system, says women’s health expert Ann Louise Gittleman, PhD, author of several bestselling books including Radical Longevity. Ascorbic acid stimulates a reaction inside cells that kills viruses, then repairs the cells and strengthens them against future invasion. To get the benefits, Gittleman recommends sipping three cups of hibiscus tea (hot or iced) each day.

The best homemade hibiscus tea recipe

Ready to reap the rewards of this pretty red brew? While hibiscus tea is well tolerated by most, it can sometimes cause minor side effects such as GI upset. To make hibiscus tea, you can use Hibiscus Sabdariffa flowers from your own yard (be sure they're pesticide-free!). You'll need about 8 to 10 whole flowers, and the drying process can take up to three days.

To do:

Remove the flowers off the hibiscus plant and discard the stamens from the center of the flower.

Wash the flowers by either massaging them thoroughly under running water or swishing them around in a bowl of cool water. Use your fingers to separate the bottom part of the flower by pulling the petals apart slightly at the base.

Secure the flowers to a drying rack or flat surface using thin wire. You will be drying the flowers outside or under the sun, so be sure they're secure in case the wind picks up.

Let the flowers dry in the sun for a few days, either outside (thisworks faster) or inside in a sunny spot. Bring the flowers inside at nighttime. Check them daily, and rotate if needed.

Once the flowers are dried, steep the dried petals petals in a pot of boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes; strain before serving. Sweeten with honey to taste, if desired.

WHEN REBELLION IS A VIRTUE by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode

Unfolding events in Africa continue to intrigue the world and the fact that no less than seven military coups have been successfully effected in no less than seven African countries in the last three years gives cause for concern.

What is the cause for these violent acts of mutiny and rebellion and can there be any justification for such behaviour?

How legitimate were the mandates of those that have been toppled and are the soldiers that have carried out these ostensibly illegal acts of insurrection, revolution and treason and taken power by the barrel of a gun criminals and rebels that should be shot at the stake or God-sent and divinely-inspired heroes, liberators and deliverers of their respective countries and people?

Can their actions be justified in some cases or are they appropriate for all and can such a course of action ever be deemed appropriate for our country Nigeria?

When is rebellion a virtue and when is it a curse?

When is mutiny, revolution and a call to arms appropriate and when is it not?

What does one do with civilian dictators and sit-tight Presidents who have sold and mortgaged the future and destiny of their nation to the Western imperialists and neo-colonial powers and who torment their people and refuse to leave office.

These are just some of the questions that yours truly seeks to answer in this contribution

Enjoy the ride!

Enjoy the ride!

On the 13th March 1962, in his address on the first anniversary of the Alliance for Progress, John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America, said the following:

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable".

In the history of humanity few have enunciated such a profound yet obvious home truth as President Kennedy has done with these famous words.

Sadly even fewer have learnt anything from them.

Those that doubt this have much to learn.

Consider the following.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Biya of Cameroon have ruled their African countries for 23 and 42 years respectively.

Approximately one week ago they were both constrained to sack, retire, redeploy and replace much of their Military High Command, senior Army commanders and thousands of commissioned and non-commissioned officers in the light of the wave of military coups that have swept West and Central Africa and just one day after the one that took place in Gabon.

This was clearly a panic measure on both their parts. They did it out of rabid fear and in a desperate attempt to thwart, pre-empt and prevent a military coup and stave off an anticipated mutiny in their respective Armed Forces.

Unfortunately for them such peripheral and ineffectual remedies and desperate attempts to ward off all opposition and dissent in an attempt to hold on to power forever will not work because their so-called "mandates" lack legitimacy and they do not have the backing of the people.

Worse still they are both oblivious of and totally blind to the rationale and ethos of mutiny and armed rebellion and are clearly ignorant of the essence and motivation for military coups.

Simply put, no matter who your senior military commanders are, whether the old or the new and no matter how many times you sack, retire, redeploy or change them, when you are an illegitimate, depraved and evil leader who crushes, murders, persecutes and incarcerates members of the opposition and who rigs elections, refuses to leave power, torments the people and imposes a corrupt, bloodthirsty and blood-lusting dictatorship and dynasty of barbarism and tyranny on his nation, coups, mutiny, rebellion, revolution and insurrection become inevitable: it is only a question of time.

The great Mexican revolutionary and courageous hero, Emiliano Zapata said "if there is no justice for the people, let there be no peace for the Government".

This sentiment is what we see playing out in the hearts and minds of most Africans today: no justice for the people and no peace for the Government.

In addition to that the Holy Bible says "there is no peace for the wicked".

Is it any wonder that sit tight rulers and life-long dictators like Kagame, Biya and others are scared of their own shadow, are shivering under their beds and enjoy no peace?

It is a fulfilment of scripture: it cannot be resisted or broken.

And what is our response to these vile, unjust and wicked leaders who, like King Louis XIV (the Sun King) of France, regard themselves as being the living manifestation and embodiment of the state?

Surely it is nothing but hate, defiance, contempt, disdain and rebellion.

It is the same response that you will get from a wounded and cornered dog whose back is up against a wall: it will strike back and fight for its very life in the most ferocious, gallant and fearless manner.

That is where most Africans that are saddled with life-time rulers and civilian dictators in their respective countries are today.

They harbour a burning rage and violent anger in their hearts and minds and rebellion and revolution is brewing in their spirits and souls.

Symphonic is literally for everybody because the real aim is to make artists in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa feel cared for beyond just digital music distribution

Symphonic West Africa, an independent music distribution and market company, has appointed Ife Ajagbe – a seasoned radio host and artists repertoire consultant its new head of operations to amplify artists voices worldwide.

Before Nigerian music became popular globally, Ajagbe, had always been an advocate for Nigerian artists, coaching independent artists on best practices on what it takes to get their work prominently featured on relevant media platforms.

“My job at Symphonic involves taking care of the interests of existing Symphonic clients and partners in the West African region while onboarding fresh musical talents,” Ajagbe said in a statement while commenting on her new role.

“Symphonic is literally for everybody because the real aim is to make artists in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa feel cared for beyond just digital music distribution,” she said.

“The organisation has been in business since 2006. So, this is a company that knows its onions when it comes to Digital music distribution, Sync Licensing, Rights Management, Funding and a host of other services.”

According to her, the organisation sets itself apart in the areas of value and efficiency among the several digital music distribution services that serve the West African market.

For instance, the platform is cognizant that many independent artists have a limited budget for the distribution and promotion of their music, she said, noting that for this reason, Symphonic helps artists distribute an unlimited number of songs to 200+ streaming sites at just $19.99 per year.

She noted that it is considered great value, adding that the process of artists’ music going live in music stores takes less than 10 days, whereas other distribution platforms take three weeks to a full month to achieve this.

“Afrobeats is the new crude oil, and it is important to nurture the sources of this promising product. As part of our commitment to artists’ development, Symphonic West Africa plans to hold regular training, master classes, and other avenues for artists to learn valuable skill sets in their journey through the music business,” Ajagbe states.
