541  Forum / The Buzz Central / D’banj Stops Following Don Jazzy On Twitter on: 7-04-2012 11:48 PM
Its so unfortunate the way things turned out or Don Jazzy and Dbanj. The latest now is the hullabaloo this issue of Dbanj not following Don Jazzy again is causing. I wonder if this had to degenerate like this considering how far and close they were, spending things together; the women, the home, the wine, the music etc. Friendship/partnership gone this bad?

Weird MC has never mentioned it before, but recently on twitter, she revealed she hasa biological twin sister. We were shocked to our very core. I wonder if her twin sister also likes to do her things like a man.

I have been thinking about how you can accuse Nollywood of everything, but you cannot accuse our industry of a lack of acting talent wide and deep. Some of them are unappreciated, some are overused, other underused, and most mis-used. But under these uninspiring conditions, they have managed to let their talent shine.

By the way, the below is a list of women of a certain age, who have acted in Nigerian movies and who are alive (so that leaves out the greats like Toun Oni and Taiwo Ajai-Lycett). I’m celebrating them!

Florence Onuma

She was Patience Ozokwor, before Patience Ozokwor became Patience Ozokwor. And was she good! The beauty of Onuma is how she could move so easily from the wicked mother-in-law to the banking executive screaming ‘Hit the Streets!’ She was always so good to watch, and always blended right into her character – whatever happened to her?

Eucharia Anunobi

Whether leading the charge of the moneyed women in August Meeting or she’s taking her turn as the nagging wife, Eucharia -now a pastor- always knows how to steal a scene. It will be a huge stretch to compare the star of Heartless and Total Disgrace to Meryl Streep, but she has that uncanny ability to be the centre of gravity, able tyo make a film watchable even when it is hopelessly bad.

Dolly Unachukwu

Who can forget Deadly Affair? It was with this movie that the plus-size actress finally won our hearts. I am not sure she was such a fine actress much as she was just an appealing figure. She was graceful, and she looked like she couldn’t ever hurt a fly. Even when she was the complete bad-ass female, she just compelled you to watch and to like her.

Patience Ozokwor

Mama G! This is one case where no one cares if she is stereotyped or typecast, or if we’ve seen her in those same clothes and saying those same lines over and over and over again, no one can have enough of the inimitable characters that live and breathe through Ozorkwor. Her strength surely comes from just how much phone she seems to be having in character. And have you heard her scream ‘Hian!’ before? You immediately feel sufficiently entertained.

Iretiola Doyle

She’s been in some dodgy movies with her dear husband, but all in all, Ms. Doyle – who takes a star turn as Sheila Ade-Williams in Mnet’s Tinsel series – has proven over time that she’ an actress to respect. Her sassiness always seems to shine through whatever the roll, and while her range hasn’t been wide; there is a depth that she consistently brings to her characters.

Liz Benson

Ah, the Grand Dame! What couldn’t Liz Benson act? The 16 year old, the goddess of perfection, the wicked stepmother, the chief executive, the adultress, the innocent wife, the witch, the angel … Nigeria’s film industry is yet to find any replacement for the woman who must have acted over 1000 movies in ten years. We loved her, loved her, loved her. I miss her, miss her, miss her. No one even comes close!

Clarion Chukwurah-Abiola

It’s a shame her mouth seems to always have the same expression, because save for that blip, Chukwurah-Abiola is one of the more imposing – and that is meant in the best of ways – of our aactresses. From Gold Diggers to Glamour Girls, when she gets angry, you are frightened; when she is happy you are joyful. She has an ability to infect you with her character – and surely that is a gift.

Her strength surely comes from just how much phone she seems to be having in character. And have you heard her scream ‘Hian!’ before? You immediately feel sufficiently entertained.

Onyeka Onwenu

You know her as a singer, but then she’s a phenomenal actress. Her credits include Government House, Women’s Cot, Conspiracy, Not Your Wealth, Widow amongst others. Conspiracy, where her character was an endearing lunatic women and which was blessed with her most successful songs as soundtrack, was perhaps her most powerful showcase. Onwenu’s acting prowess is intimidating – when she acts, you forget she’s a superstar. She lets the character swallow her.

Iretiola Doyle

Ebele Okaro

It’s not the kind of name that immediately rings bells, but if you have been blessed to watch Ebele Okaro in performance, then you know that this star of movies such as Days of Rage and Egg of Life. I sat beside this woman on a flight to Enugu recently, and while I would more easily be star-mad when I see a Genevieve and inch for a photograph, I was only so star struck. It was enough to be that close to this under-appreciated acting royalty.

Rachel Oniga

Many of us grew up watching Rachel Oniga – the woman who should trademark her dead-on expression of a confused flustered, Nigerian woman. She’s now to be found sharing her talent in Yoruba movies, but for the brief period that she was in every other English offering, Oniga was a toast of many families. And she always had a grip on the tragic.

Ngozi Ezeonu

She probably shares that same charm as Dolly Unachukwu – where you can’t hate them evern when their characters are of the devil. Ezeonu kicked off her career in Nneka, The Pretty Serpent, she has gone on to occupy the role of gentle wife to the angry, rich chief. Sometimes the stereotypes become a bit too stifling, but Ezeonu sweetly manages to remain on the top of her game.

Rita Edochie

If it were America, she would probably be hailed as a method actor, here, she is reduced to acting the same role in all those “epic” movies Idumota is passionate about producing. The cadence of Edochie’s voice and the earthiness she brings to her roles make her one to watch constantly even though you’ve seen in her in that same role in a movie of another name. There is also a poetry to her movement that enthralls. She enthralls.

Camilla Mgberekpe

Her voice is a screech; a high, frightening screech. So it’s perghaps no surprise that her breakout films were the one where she was a witch and the other where she was the wicked mother-in-law (case in point, the movie ‘Evil Woman’). She’s not the kind of face you want to see when you wake up in the morning – lush with foreboding and forewarning – but it doesn’t mean you don’t get a chill in your bones when she gets that screech right. And the action to match.

Hilda Dokubo

You think Stella Damasus can cry? You think Nkiru Sylanus can cry? Then you obviously began to watch Nollywood movies a bit too late. Hilda Dokubo can cry for the United Nations, and cry she did in many movies since she launched out in Fatal Desire. Between the role of the oppressed wife and that of the prayer warrior, she had it all figured out. And we figured that we loved her.

Bukky Ajayi

There is something simple and un-dramatic acting about the woman everyone calles Aunty Buki. She comes at her roles with crispness and precision, whether it is a Yoruba or an English speaking movie. What this national treasure has stored inside her is a wealth of talent honed over time and spunk that has only gotten sharper with age.

Gloria Young

Oh dear, Glamour Girl, how we fell so madly in love with you. We always felt like we could lie on the feet of the former Ms. Anozie and just be safe. She has that effect on you – confident in her craft, easy in her movements, completely at home under the lights. She’s gone off the movie posters recently, but she still lights up the screens under Wale Adenuga’s many TV series.

Ngozi Nwosu

No one can hold this woman down. Those who have watched her career from her time in Igbo-language films will remember her spectacular performance in Evil Passion. But she truly won hearts long before, as one of Chief’s wives in the popular soap opera, Checkmate. Nwosu has been around a long time, her hoarse voice standing her out as much as her enviable talent.

Joke Silva

This woman deserves a medal for longevity – she seems to have been there from the beginning of our film industry, straddling film, television and stage and she is as relevant today as she was when she started out. Silva’s strengths include her impeccable diction, her deliciously methodical acting and her large expressiveness that’s a pleasure to watch on the big screen.

Funlola Aofiyebi/Bimbo Akintola

They’re not in the league of these women, in terms of age, but they just have to make this list. Bimbo Akintola’s broke out with her star turn with RMD in Out of Bounds, and Funlola through the soap opera Palace, but they have shown again and again that she is in a league of her own amongst her peers as an actress. Of course, she is so good that Nollywood doesn’t seem to know what to do with them. They just don’t fit into any box – especially when the box is titled mediocrity.

So there’s my list! Next week it will be the turn of the men. Do you disagree with any of the names? Or do you have your own list?
545  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / THE MANY WOMEN OF OTUNBA GADAFFI on: 6-04-2012 11:57 PM
Stories have continued to spread about the life and times of Otunba Gadaffi Isaac Durojaiye Agbetusin,Vice Chairman of the DMT mobile toilets who died Tuesday 20th of March and was buried at Vaults and Garden Ikoyi,Lagos,Wednesday,28th.

One of the most interesting stories is about his ways with women.

Durojaiye was said to be very amenable and respectful with women who flocked around him because of his extreme good looks and body build.

Such stories link him to his mum who was said to have had him on her apron strings even until his death.

It also includes such stories that link him with four other known women who bore him six children and numerous others who had series of dalliances with him.

We learnt that only two out of the four that bore him children were married to him namely Adetoro, his school mate whom he married in 1991 but separated from three years after with two sons named Simi and Dami to show for it and Muyioluwa whom he married a few years ago.

Muyioluwa has a daughter that is barely three years old for Duro.

Even though there are stories that say she had been ejected from the house by Duro’s mum about six months ago,she was also at the funeral. Both of these women had their names fully represented in the obituary brochure and programmed of events.

Aside from these, there are three other children who came on their own to the burial which was held in the open grounds of the cemetery said to be products of other liaisons with two other women said one of his close friends.

Duro was a ladies’ man who attracted several women by his side.He had the build that brought them close. But he was also vulnerable and had a soft center even though he worked as a body guard.

I believe he must have imbibed some character of his former boss Chief MKO Abiola who also had a way with women. It is that same character that caused him to respect his mum dearly and lived with her in the same house till death.

Otunba Isaac Durujaiye Agbetusin became popular during the hey days of Chief MKO Abiola when he earned a job as his chief bodyguard.

Before then,he had had a stint in the United Kingdom where he studied graphics.

Body building then earned him bodyguard jobs with heavy weight champion Frank Bruno and entertainer Eddy Murphy before he returned to Nigeria.

It was a few years ago that he started promoting the idea of DMT mobile toilet system which became an instant hit all over Nigeria with patronage from all sides.
546  Forum / The Buzz Central / POPULAR FEMALE DRUMMER,ARA & HUBBY ANNUL 3 YEAR OLD MARRIAGE on: 6-04-2012 11:49 PM
Popular female drummer,Aralola is single again.

Last week,Ara and her husband,Prince Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu, the son of Oba Oloruntoyin Saliu(the Oloworo of Oworo) ended their 3-year old marriage by Annulment.

Both went to a Lagos Local Government Registry to annual the marriage.

When they first parted ways last July they issued a statement by BlackHouse Media,on behalf of the musician, We’ve been separated since January the musician said then. But because I do not want rumours to start flying, and I think, out of respect, all my friends and fans need to know what’s happening to me,I think it’s right to set the records straight once and for all on this.

We’re no longer together and we’re both happy. We’ve both moved on.I’m single again. But I will not be searching for now.I’ve taken this decision very painfully;and it’s particularly a tough and sensitive time for me and my son.

And I plead with my friends and fans to put us in their prayers at this period.

Ara got married to Nurudeen,a Lagos Prince on June 4,2009 at the Oshodi/Isolo Registry in Lagos.

When she was asked about the break up last November 2011,she was not forthcoming. All she said then was; My marriage crashed in January not because I was a bad mother or wife but I was married to the wrong person was how she put it. We had different beliefs.

I now tell women not to believe that the man will change after marriage. If a man doesn’t change before marriage he will never change.Don’t believe that marriage will solve the problem or that marriage changes people. It doesn’t change people.Well,I don’t want to say much, especially since my ex-husband has political ambition.

Speaking on it could destroy his political ambition.

On if she loves her ex hubby she replied Well,it’s not love but respect.

I don’t love him anymore.I did love him with all my heart.I respect him because of my son.I believe that no matter what happens he’s still the father of my son.

There were good moments with him.My son’s future must be protected.I will never tarnish his image, but for ladies, mother to learn and to avoid the mistake I made,I will definitely speak up later

Is she going to get married again;she said I will get married again because I’m a very romantic person.I believe so much in love.

Last week, both Ara and her husband annulled their marriage.

They were both made to write why they wanted an annulment and signed.

They both returned the original marriage certificates and they both left.

We hear her husband has moved on and he has even fathered a baby boy by another woman who he is not married to.

At the Registry, they were told the marriage never existed.

I never cheated on my husband.I have never had sex with any man since I left him.

I have asked God to kill my segxwal desires until the right man comes and he must wait until we are married before we can have sex

Oba of Benin Disgraced a PDP Candidate, refused to pray for him, sent them out of the palace

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State were yesterday disappointed after the Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, refused to endorse their candidate, Maj-Gen Charles Airhiavbere.

PDP state Chairman Dan Orbih led party faithful to the palace to seek royal blessings.

A palace chief, Amos Osunbor, who prayed on behalf of the monarch, did not pray for the PDP candidate but prayed that God should give the state a governor who will turn Benin to a modern city and provide infrastructure..'"We are concerned about the high taxation and demolition of houses. This is not the dream of our state."

But the Benin monarch interrupted him, saying: "I will not allow you to use my palace as a soap box."
548  Forum / Politics / “If I wanted a third term, God would have given it to me” – Obasanjo speaks up on: 6-04-2012 11:37 PM
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9vte2XEadHU?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken out denying allegations that he was responsible for the proposed third term agenda, and blamed the National Assembly, claiming they initiated it.

Still flogging that poor horse, the ex-president said an exclusive interview with Channels Television: “Third term was one out of over a hundred clauses that they included in that amendment and they initiated it. It was not an executive bill, so you are absolutely wrong. If I want a third term that bill would have come from me.”

He went on to say that his National Assembly rep, Florence Ita Giwa had never claimed he sent her to work towards a third term agenda. “My liaison officer to the National Assembly, Florence Ita-Giwa told the whole world that there was no day I ever called her and said go and work for third term,” he added.

He also spoke about his erstwhile Vice, Atiku Abubakar, saying: “even Atiku who said some people told him there was a third term agenda, hasn’t mentioned the names of the people who told him such.

“Even Ibrahim Mantu, who was the chairman of the constitution amendment committee, will never tell you I told him I want a third term.”

He stated that if he had wanted a third term as president he would most certainly have achieved it, as there is nothing he wants that God does not give him.

“I am not a fool, if I want a third term, I know how to go about it and there is nothing I want that God hasn’t given me. If I had wanted a third term, I would have gone about it, the way I should have gone about it and I would have gotten it.”

Check out footage from the interview with Channels TV below.

552  Forum / The Buzz Central / ‘People don’t understand my swag’----Klint da Drunk on: 6-04-2012 11:01 AM
Clinton Afamefuna Igwemba better known as Klint da Drunk is a celebrated humour merchant.
he spoke about his purported change of name, career and other matters. Excerpts:

What informed your name change from Klint da drunk to Mr Klint?

People seem not to understand the swag from Klint da drunk to Mr. Klint. Mr Klint did not take over what Klint da drunk is doing. Mr Klint is there and Klint da drunk is also there doing what it does.

You will find this in the song where you have Mr Klint featuring Klint da drunk. Mr Klint can be anyone he wants to be. He can be the drunk; he can be a normal person talking about anything, he can be a stand- up comedian and he can be a musician. Klint da drunk is one of the characters that can be used by Mr. Klint. A lot of misconception has come up concerning the name Klint da drunk.

Sometimes ago I overheard a child saying when I grow up I want to be like Uncle Klint da drunk and when I asked him why he says Uncle Klint drinks and make money and I don’t want him to grow up thinking that it’s that way. They need to know that this guy actually does a whole lot of things to make his money not just to go drinking; also Mr Klint goes a long way to make people understand that being a drunk is bad.

How did you come about the drunken character you portray?

There’s this man called, Scatter Mojo. He used to be our caretaker in the village. Mr. Scatter Mojo was a real drunk. His kind of person and the odd jobs he did in the village usually got him soaked. So, each time he got drunk and staggered his way back to our house, I noticed that my father and my uncle usually entertained themselves on that day. Sometimes, I would mimic him, without knowing that I was consciously preparing myself to earn a living by adopting the character of a drunk.

I just kept on practising what Mr. Mojo was doing. Then, I used to sing and perform on stage while I was in the secondary school. I wasn’t really portraying the drunken comic, until one day I went for a show where I was to sing and it happened that 2Face Idibia was newly admitted into the IMT. At that show, 2Face was scheduled to go on stage before me. And when I watched him perform and heard his voice on stage, I immediately sneaked out of the place.

I found solace in trying my hands in comedy, perhaps, recreating the drunk character that the man in my village was noted for. I did it once, and people embraced the act. And before I knew what was happening, I was everywhere in Enugu. Then, I was the only functioning comedian in the Coal City. I didn’t relent in my effort as I had to set a standard for myself. And it was a decision that actually paid off because it was in Port Harcourt that I hit the limelight

If you were not a comedian, what else would you have been doing for a living?

I studied Fine and Applied Art. I’m a painter by profession. If I wasn’t a comedian, I might have been painting or acting professionally, or maybe pursuing a career in music. I’m somehow blessed. I act, sing and also do my comic act. My album is coming out soon. I’m still painting, and in fact, I’m going to hold a solo exhibition of my recent works very soon. I can’t stop painting and I can’t drop my brush for anything. I still find time to paint. I love painting, and I don’t joke with my colours.

Have you ever gotten any negative reactions from fans?

Yes, I do. I remember a certain time, a woman confronted me, telling me how she liked my comedy but disliked my act. On inquiry, she told me that my act reminded her of her former husband who used to be a drunk, adding that each time she watched me on stage, she always flash-backed to the circumstances that led to their being divorced.

Based on that, I’m planning a show that will kick off in Abuja and Lagos respectively very soon. It will be a travelling show, a kind of campaign resulting in making people to drink responsibly. I’m the face of who you are, that person you are not meant to be.

How does it feel to be a father the second time?

It feels great and I am really happy and I thank God for yet another bundle of joy that he has given to me in addition to my sweet boy Clinton. It is very interesting being a father again. I am a proud father.

Do girls still run after you?

I don’t want the girls to leave me alone. But the entertainment business is not only about the girls alone but even the children, the mothers and everyone is very important to me. I don’t want them to leave me alone because these people are the ones that make us. If they leave me, they will stop buying my CD.

555  Forum / The Buzz Central / Eddie Murphy's Relationship With Toni Braxton Serious on: 5-04-2012 12:39 AM
His love life has played out like a soap opera, but could it be possible that Eddie Murphy has finally settled down with singer Toni Braxton?

Apparently so, because the Tower Heist star, 50 , and the voice behind the anthemic Un-break My Heart, 44 , 'are seeing each other,' according to Us Weekly.

And what's more, they're both 'very into it.'

She's been separated from singer Keri Lewis since 2009, the couple were married for eight years and have sons Denim, 11, and eight-year-old Diezel together.

A spokesperson for Braxton told the magazine: 'Toni and Eddie are just friends and have been fans of each other's work for a long time.'

But their 'insider' continued: “Their kids have met and everything. It's getting very serious.”

In addition to first wife Nicole Mitchell, Murphy dated former Spice Girl Melanie Brown from 2006 to 2007.

The pair split acrimoniously and Murphy told a journalist of the Dutch TV show RTL Boulevard at the Dreamgirls film premiere that the parentage of Brown's unborn baby could not be proven until a paternity test has been performed.

Brown gave birth to daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown on Eddie Murphy's 46th birthday, 3 April 2007.

On 22 June 2007, People reported the results of a court-ordered DNA test, confirming through Brown's publicist that Murphy was indeed the father of Brown's baby. Murphy then admitted paternity and indicated that he would reimburse Brown for the cost of the pregnancy.

He also exchanged marital vows with Tracey Edmonds in 2008 in a 'symbolic' ceremony that was never made legal.

Braxton's search for love after her split from Lewis was a major plot point in the most recent season of her reality show Braxton Family Values.
556  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / More Violence Against Women Video:Three Female Students Tortured By Boys in AAU on: 5-04-2012 12:27 AM
What’s going on in this country?  Why do some men think they can violate women at will?  Why are they so confident to not only commit the crime, but also film it? Is this now the norm, should we get used to it?  How can these acts of violence against women happen in our schools, our society and nothing is done about it?

In this 13mins video, three girls are dehumanized and tortured by guys because the guys allegedly heard them having lesbian sex.  The boys not only made the girls touch, kiss and literarily have oral sex with each other, they also laid them on the floor and flogged them like animals.

This video is almost as horrid as the rape video. My heart bleeds that these things are happening to our young women and not much is done about it. This has got to stop.

I wouldn’t advise you to watch the video, it’s quite heartbreaking and will probably spoil your whole day/week, but if you insist, then watch it here.

What are we going to do about this?
557  Forum / Sports / 25 Eagles Battle For Shirts Against Pharaohs on: 5-04-2012 12:14 AM
Apart from Gombe United hotshot Mustapha Babadidi whose injury has stopped him from coming to camp all invited players have reported and all took part in Wednesday tedious workout at the Goal Project site inside the Abuja National Stadium.
In all 25 players took part in the training session superintended by Dan  “the bull” Amokachi in the absence of Head Coach Stephen Keshi and the battle for shirts was intense, as all the players seek to impress the coaching crew that they deserve to be on the plane to Abu Dhabi, for the friendly against Egypt.

Former Super Eagles first choice in goal Ike Shorunmin took time off to drill the three goalies, Dan Akpeyi, Okemute Odah and Chigozie Agbim, who double as skipper of is side.
Defenders Azubuike Ewueke, Godfrey Oboabona, Papa Idris, Adesope Hammed, Juwon Oshaniwa and Henry Uche, Ogonna Uzochukwu were in excellent shape. From the midfield Uche Ossai, who lost his father recently has not shown ant sign of bereavement, same for Bathlomew Ibenegbu, Izu Azuka, Shehu Maijema, Nura Mohammed, ever impressive Ejike Uzoenyi, Gabriel Reuben and new comer Husein Hassan.
Kalu Uche, Sunday Mba, Jabason Solomon, Gbolahan Salami, Obinna Nwachukwu, Barnabas Imenger and Lawal Mohammed have added to the selection headache of the national team handlers for the friendly against Egypt . “Only the best will be picked” Amokachi has assured
558  Forum / Sports / Nigerian clubs fight for Champions League survival on: 5-04-2012 12:13 AM
Nigerian challengers Dolphin and Sunshine Stars must fight for survival this weekend when return games are played in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

Dolphin take a precarious 2-1 lead over 2008 runners-up Cotonsport Garoua to Cameroon while Sunshine must overcome a 4-1 first-leg drubbing when they host Recreativo do Libolo from Angola.

While Enyimba are the only Nigerian side to win the elite CAF club competition, it would be humiliating for the African football power if both clubs failed to make the last 16 final qualifying round.

Both Nigerian coaches remain upbeat as they try to undo the damage of two weeks ago when Dolphin missed a penalty and many chances and Sunshine lost concentration in the closing stages to concede three goals.

"My boys may not have achieved the emphatic victory we hoped for, but I still believe in them and I am confident of a good result in the return match," Dolphin handler Stanley Eguma said.

Sunshine Stars boss Olubenga Ogumbota was emphatic: "My players are capable of overcoming the deficit - uncomfortably large though it is. I do not believe anything is lost."

It could have been even worse for Port Harcourt-based Dolphin as the winning goal from Ghana-born Owusu Addae came just three minutes from time after Ifeanyi Egwim had given his team an early lead and fluffed a second-half spot kick.

Dolphin came closest to African glory in 2005 when beaten by FAR Rabat of Morocco in the CAF Confederation Cup final while Cotonsport lost 4-2 on aggregate against Al Ahly of Egypt in the Champions League decider four years ago.

Sunshine exceeded expectations to reach the Confederation Cup semi-finals at the first attempt last year and seemed a good bet to reach the group phase of the Champions League at least.

However, two goals within three minutes from Adawa and Dario turned the tide in favour of provincial outfit Recreativo and Cameroon-born Edy struck a potentially crucial fourth in stoppage time.

"We are going to Nigeria with just one thought - victory," stressed Libolo coach and former national team star Zeca Amaral, whose team stunned former champions Orlando Pirates of South Africa in a preliminary tie.

Ahly strive for more
Although Al Ahly have been African champions a record six times and held Coffee 0-0 in Ethiopia two weeks ago, the talented but ageing squad of Portuguese coach Manuel Jose will take nothing for granted.

Coffee were also held at home by Ahly in a previous first round clash 14 years ago only to win the tie on away goals and the Cairo Red Devils have been hampered by a lack of match practice.

The arch rivals of Ahly take a 1-0 lead over Africa Sports to Abidjan and will miss injured striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam in a repeat of the 1986 CAF Champions Cup final won by the Cairo club on penalties.

Title holders Esperance of Tunisia should advance to the final qualifying round without undue difficulty having drawn 1-1 with African debutants Brikama United in Gambia.

Other former champions in action are Vita Club and TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Etoile Sahel of Tunisia, who all drew away, and Raja Casablanca of Morocco, trounced 5-0 by newcomers Berekum Chelsea in Ghana.

560  Forum / Sports / I Left N2.8b In NFF’s Account, Lulu Opens Up on: 5-04-2012 12:06 AM
Two years after his controversial removal from office by the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), for alleged financial misappropriation, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, erstwhile president of the NFF, has opened up on the corruption allegation levelled against him.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the immediate past NFF boss disclosed that at the time he was forced out of office, he left a total of N2.8 billion in both NFF local accounts and the account with world soccer governing body (FIFA) and challenged anybody with contrary position to come out with facts. He said the money includes the $8m FIFA 2010 World Cup participation fees and the $5.5m FIFA sponsorship funds for the 2009 U-17 World Cup held in Nigeria, stressing that people in authority are only waging campaign of calumny against him to cast a slur on his person and reputation.

“I have at various occasions clarified my four-year stewardship as president of the NFF from August 2006 to July 2010. However, while we await the court’s verdict, I will be doing a great disservice to Nigerians who gave me their electoral mandate if I don’t respond to these malicious accusations being levelled against me. Indeed, as at the time we were forced out of office, NFF had a total of N2.8b in either its local accounts or with the FIFA account. Included in this amount is the $8m FIFA 2010 World Cup participation fees and the $5.5m FIFA sponsorship funds for the 2009 U-17 World Cup in Nigeria,” Lulu revealed.

Speaking further, the former director of sports, FCT, said Nigeria earned a total of $9m from FIFA for qualifying for the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa and out of it, $1m was advanced for preparation for the tournament while the remaining balance of $8m was not remitted to the NFF account before his impeachment from office following the astonished letter written to the soccer governing body by the former minister of sports, Ibrahim Isa Bio which stopped his board from accessing the fund.

He said out of the widely speculated N1.25b approved and released by the federal government for Nigeria’s 2010 World Cup participation, only N900m was remitted to NFF’s account by the National Sports Commission (NSC), while the remaining balance of N350m was withheld in the NSC. He added that at the time of his impeachment with two other erstwhile officials of the NFF, the sum of N326m and $540, 000 were left in the various accounts of the NFF as residues from the N900m released to them by the NSC from the federal government.

On the $5.5m sponsorship fund for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup tagged ‘Nigeria 2009’, he said the money remitted by FIFA through NFF to the Nigeria 2009 Local Organising Committee (LOC) and lodged in the LOC account with First Bank, Abuja with no amount withdrawn from it during his tenure as NFF president and chairman LOC.

The former NFF helmsman also denied bribing 36 states FA chairmen as inducement for his re-election bid. “I am not aware of any bribe to any group or individual. I am however, aware that FIFA has an annual grant of $250, 000 to associations to facilitate national development programmes. My executive committee approved that annual total remittance of N18.5m of N500, 000 to each state and the FCT for grassroots developmental programmes. “I am not speculating. What I stated here are facts and the statistics are there for anybody to verify. Anyone with objection should come out with relevant facts instead of misleading the public with wrong information,” he said.
