Is Nigeria not worth shedding tears for? Whether crocodile tears or tiger tears, the Nigerian Nation has so been plundered and brutalized that anyone who witnessed the era when light was better, Naira had value and our health care and transport systems were working (at least better than they are now) would shed tears......Are we progressing or regressing? Nonetheless, action is what we need not emotions..............

As for the lady, she shouldn't take any decision in a rush or in her present state of confusion cos she might end up making the wrong decision but she shouldn't delude herself that the man would divorce his first wife; why didn't he divorce her before getting into another marriage? Pity she's pregnant, she could have just divorced the 2 faced, 2-timing husband but as it is now....I wouldn't advice an abortion; she should wait and see how the drama unfolds but shouldn't believe all what her hubby says.....subsequent events would help her make up her mind whether to stay in d marriage or move ahead with her baby.

95  Forum / Politics / Saraki wants son’s election cancelled on: 13-04-2011 09:45 AM
Ten political parties have jointly called for the cancellation  of last Saturday’s National Assembly election in Kwara State,  alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) connived with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig the election.

Citing a number of noticeable hitches in the conduct of  the election, the political parties, including the Dr. Olusola Saraki-led Allied congress party of Nigeria (ACPN), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in a joint petition, addressed to the INEC chairman,  acknowledged the good intention of the INEC  to have a clean break from the past sad electoral experience, but regretted that the idea could not sail as evidenced by the wanton malpractices, fraud, intimidation of opponents, employment of fake electoral officials and connivance of electoral officers in all the 16 local government areas of the state with the ruling party the PDP.

Above all, the coalition, which also included the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), National Conscience Party (NCP),  National Transformation Party (NTP), Republican Party of Nigeria (RPN), etc., in the petition alleged that  the PDP openly induced voters on the queue with huge sums of money and Ankara wrappers.
In other instances, especially in the rural areas, the petitioners further said corps members assisted in the illegal ballot paper stuffing.

“Multiple registrations that were done by the PDP people was not checkmated electronically as promised by the INEC to the extent that the double voting was employed in the villages where already thumb printed ballot papers were stuffed and counted   for the PDP, underplayed ballotting booths were accredited and thumb printed ballot papers from such were counted.
“More worrisome was that unused ballot papers in the botched April 2 National Assembly election were unaccounted for by the state REC and electoral officers; the same were left in the custody of the electoral officers.

“The  electoral officers, in each of the 16 LGAs  of the state never declared balloting booths of the wards before  the commencement of the accreditation and voting despite demands  for such by the party agents, this was the case in the entire state.”
Further, the petitioners stated: “In most cases, we discovered that the PDP agents in the cancelled April 2 elections suddenly became INEC returning officers in the just concluded elections. A good case is the case of wards Babaloma-Share polling booth 009.”
“In all the polling centres across the state, no declaration of accredited voters was done before voting commenced in majority of the polling centres contrary to the Electoral Act and electoral guidelines.”
“Evidence of bought over corps members, thumb printing ballot papers for the PDP, abound in Babaloma ward 1, Adio village, for instance, Dr. Femi Ogunshola, challenged INEC and corps members why it was only the PDP agents that were allowed and admitted to sit in each of the polling units, others party agents were driven away.”

Giving on the spot account and evidences of what it described as monumental fraud of the National Asssembly election in Kwara, the petitioners prayed that “that the elections into the National Assembly   of April 9 be cancelled as  same were conducted contrary to the electoral guidelines and in contravention of the Electoral Act,  alleging the election was rigged by INEC for the ruling PDP in the State.

97  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Tears flow, as NUC closes illegal varsity study centres in Lagos on: 13-04-2011 09:23 AM
Some students of alleged illegal universities in Lagos broke down in tears recently, when the National Universities Commission (NUC) committee on closure of illegal universities stormed their study centers and shut them down for operating without the Federal Government’s approval. The closure ended their dream of acquiring university education after investing so much.

The NUC committee led by the chairman, Professor Ebenezer Adebowale, Legal Adviser, Mr. Moses Awe and a member, Mr. Lawrence Oguguwa stormed some of the illegal universities while the students were either receiving lectures or preparing for their examinations. In the state of confusion that ensued, the proprietors and lecturers abandoned them to their fate and disappeared into the air.

The first port of call for the committee was Topmost International Comprehensive Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos where two illegal university study centres (Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso) were said to be operating from, with over 1,000 students offering MBA and degree programmes. Unqualified lecturers were reported to be teaching the students.

Professor Adebowale demanded from the Coordinator of the Centre, Mr. Bolaji Taiwo, the approval from NUC to operate the study centre. But when Taiwo produced a letter dated August 2006 and addressed to the Vice Chancellor, it was discovered by the commission that it was meant for the Ogbomoso main campus of the institution. Right away, Adebowale informed him and students studying at the place that the centre is illegal and has been closed down.

“Some people are making money out of you,” Adebowale told the bewildered students. “Any certificate that you are issued here will not worth it, will not be accepted.”
In a swift reaction to the closure, some of the students, particularly the 300 and 400-Level students bemoaned their losses while ladies among them were close to tears as they revealed that it cost them between N60,000 and N80,000 tuition fee per session to read in the place and bombarded Professor Adebowale with questions on what becomes of their fate.

At Itire Primary School, Ijesha, Lagos, the committee discovered a foreign institution, University of Education, Winneba, Ghana operating an illegal study cenre together with University of Ibadan (UI) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. They were all offering degrees and MBA programmes with over 800 students receiving lectures at the centres. Most of the students were either in 100 and 200 levels. When the committee demanded for the certificate of approval, the students directed them to the Head Office of the operator at Ojuelegba.

“The University of Education, Winneba, Ghana is not known to the NUC. We will close it until you show us the NUC approval. As long as you are going to work with the certificate, it will not be possible to work using the certificate that you obtained here,” Professor Adebowale informed the students who surrounded him. “Why did the owner and lecturers run when they saw us?”, he queried. “If they have any approval let them produce it.”

At this point some of the students could not hold back tears and wept profusely with one of them, a 200-level Management Science student, asking what becomes of his investment amounting to over N250,000. Another student, Ben Obi, a trader informed the committee that the operator told them that the study centre was approved and having spent over N160,000, he wondered what the future holds for the students after the closure. A 100-level female student said she paid about N68,000 aside other sundry expenses and revealed that they were taken to Ghana for the matriculation ceremony.
At Charles Lorie French Academy, FESTAC, Lagos, a drama played out when the Coordinator, Ibrahim Baba attempted to deceive the committee by showing them a poster bearing the name of an institute, (Institute of Security Management Operations) which indicate they run security management courses. But Adebowale and his members insisted on seeing things for themselves, they discovered that they were running ABU and OAU programmes including MBAs there.

The committee met about four lectures in progress and discovered that the lecturers particularly the one taking the MBA class was not qualified to teach such a class as he has only Masters. Another lecturer abandoned his MBA class when he got wind of the presence of the committee. When the Legal Adviser of the committee announced the closure of the study centre, the students lamented their plight in the light of the huge sums they had spent so far pursuing degree and post-graduate degree programmes at the centres. Some of the ladies screamed and wept.

It was complaint galore as the students revealed that they paid N200,000 for the MBA programme and claimed ignorance of the status of the place. A female banker who read History and enrolled for MBA told Daily Sun that she paid over N180,000 and needed the certificate to safeguard her job while some of the married ones wondered how they would relate the situation to their husbands at home.

But what appears to be the biggest discovery by the NUC committee was made at Chartered Institute of Administration, Ojo where the staff told the committee that they only prepare students for ICAN and professional programmes but an eagle-eyed member of the committee spotted students results sheet pasted on the wall and bearing Evan Enwerem University, Owerri, Imo State. A search later led to further discovery that showed they were indeed making false claims.

Soon after the discovery, the operator abandoned the students who besieged the committee while some of the lecturers that were caught teaching claimed ignorance of the status and could not provide cogent answers to many questions asked. A 300-level Management Studies student told Daily Sun that he and his colleagues paid N80,000 per session and that the payment was made into IMSU Global Account with an old generation bank. A lecturer with a Masters degree who was caught teaching Public Administration to MBA students was told in the presence of his students that he is not qualified to lecture them.

But the moment the chairman of the committee, Adebowale announced the closure of the place, many of the students attempted to question his powers while others lamented the waste of resources and energy in acquiring a university degree. A female student reminded the committee that many students had graduated from the institute while others (100-level students) who paid huge amount wondered how they would recover their money as they were ordered to leave the place or get arrested.
In his response, Adebowale, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State advised students to crosscheck from the commission’s website before applying for admissions into any university and stressed that most of the VCs are not aware that people are using names of their universities to run study centres outside the main campuses.

Some of the students who wanted to know from the committee what they could do in the light of huge expenses they had gone into in a bid to acquire university education were told to hold the operators responsible for their plight. However, they were offered the option of either enrolling with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), University of Lagos Distance learning programme or having the proprietors of the centres arrange for them to go to the main campuses to continue with their studies if they are truly genuine. In a chat with the Daily Sun, the Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Biodun Olanrewaju said that operators of the illegal study centres are using its name to deceive students noting that “we don’t have any satellite campus in Lagos.”

99  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 3 sisters segxwally Assualted in Bariga area of Lagos on: 12-04-2011 03:08 PM
For three sisters in Bariga area of Lagos, January 14, 2011 would remain a terrible date in their minds till they breathe their last. On the fateful day, three armed young men allegedly invaded their home, causing unmitigated misery and sorrow. The men reportedly robbed the three ladies of cash and other valuables. They then took turns to rape their victims.

That wasn’t all. The men then abused and humiliated the sisters by using the handle of their axe to ravage their private parts.

One of the ladies, who was pregnant at the time, allegedly lost her pregnancy. And by the time the monsters in human skin left, the entire room was like a slaughter house with small pools of blood everywhere.

The incident happened at Lawal Street, Bariga.

Nemesis has, however, caught up with two of the suspected robbers. Amaechi Ogba and Ikenna Adibe, both 25, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are both telling the police what they know about the dastardly act. Ugo Nweze, the third suspect, is still on the run. The robbers were said to have climbed the fence around 2.30 am, broke the door with an axe and forced their way into the room. They robbed the three girls of money and other valuables and later gang-raped them.

One of the ladies, who was two months pregnant at the time, lost her baby in the process. She, like the others, almost bled to death.

Among the items stolen from the ladies was a Blackberry, which was allegedly sold to one Isa Muhammed for N13,000. Ironically, it was through the phone that the men of the State Anti -Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja traced and arrested the buyer. Muhammed subsequently took the detectives to the two suspects. On March 6, Adibe and Ogba were arrested. They have since been cooling their heels in police custody.

The victims have also identified both suspects as among the trio that robbed and raped them.

Adibe, in a chat, told our reporter that his gang members and their victims were all neighbours in the Ilaje area of Bariga, admitting that they had robbed the area on two occasions.

He said after forcing their way into the victims’ room, they robbed and raped the ladies.

“They cooperated with us and we collected their wedding rings, their money and their ATM cards. We later raped them.

We raped the three girls in their rooms and we later inserted the handle of the axe in their private parts. One of them even begged us that she was pregnant, but we didn’t budge.” Adibe, who said he hails from Ebonyi State, said one of the victims attended the same secondary school with him in Bariga. He said they spent only one hour in the house of their victims. The other suspect, Ogba, said they used clothes to cover the victims’ faces so that they would not be identified.

“Immediately we took the ATM card, I quickly went to a bank and withdrew N5, 000. Ugo Nweze, who is now at large, was the one who said we should not pity our victims. Immediately we were arrested, the victims were able to identify us because we were all neighbours. We are pleading that we should be forgiven. It was the devil that used us,” he pleaded.

Officer-in-charge of SARS, Mr. Abba Kyari, a superintendent of police (SP), said it was the information on the Blackberry that served as a guide for the policemen. Through the information, the detectives swung into action and arrested the receiver and eventually, the suspects, he said.

Abba said the two suspects had confessed that they had been terrorising the Bariga area of Lagos for some time.

One of the victims, who wouldn’t want her name mentioned, said the experience was bitter and pathetic.

Her words: “We never knew such an incident could happen in our area. We were suddenly woken up in the night and we saw people jumping in through the fence. They broke our door and forcefully entered our room. They demanded for money and we gave them what we had. They demanded for our ATM cards and we gave them. They demanded for our wedding rings, we also gave them. When they demanded for sex, we pleaded with them, using the name of Jesus Christ.

They refused and raped the three of us. As if that was not enough, they started using the handle of the axe with which they broke our door to penetrate our private parts. They didn’t stop until they saw blood coming out.” The lady said they went to the Bariga Police Station to report the ugly incident and later went to the hospital to have themselves examined. “A doctor said we had contacted some segxwally Transmitted Disease (STD) and we were treated.

One of the policemen later informed us that they had arrested the suspects and when we got to the police custody we realized that the two suspects were our neighbours. They also confessed and begged us to forgive them for the evil they did to us.” Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Yakubu Alkali, said he was baffled with the acts of the robbers, who not only rob their victims, but also raped them. He said the young men had confessed to their sin. Alkali also said the police recovered an axe and a cutlass used during the operation from the suspects.

When our reporter visited the scene of the robbery, fear was still written on the faces of many people. A resident, Mr. Akin Agbaje, said they had been living in fear of armed robbers since last year. He said many people have fallen victims in the area and appealed to the police to be more vigilant even as he commended them for apprehending the suspects.

According to Alkali, the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
