A student from North-West University (NWU) in Mahikeng, South Africa, Hope Nokuthula Bhuda, was elected … “Mr NWU 2019”. This triggered a lively controversy on social networks.
As every year, the contest of “NWU Mr and Miss 2019” took place on the Mahikeng campus of the North-West University (NWU), in the northwest of South Africa,  on 10 August 2019. This year, the competition focused on themes of segxwality and gender. The school management had also launched a call for applications from students, with the hashtag …  #BreakTheCode . The code was indeed broken …

The posters of the competition asked in particular: “Are you a member of the LGBTI + family?” . And more curiously: “Are you a human being?” …
“Young king, the crown is yours”
As for Mr NWU, it is  Hope Nokuthula Bhuda , who declares herself a lesbian, who was finally elected. After the announcement of the results, she wrote on her Facebook page: “Young king, the crown is yours, you have been chosen!”

Controversy

His victory sparked a lively debate online. On Twitter, many also declared their support for the student for the courage she showed.

NWU wants to make the public more tolerant, university spokesman Louis Jacobs  told Sowetan , a South African online daily newspaper. “Gender and segxwality awareness is an essential part of the NWU’s policy (…) and we respect the right of our staff and students to express themselves in the way that suits them. the best, “ he explained .

“Management has taken note of the issues raised by some stakeholders at Mr NWU’s coronation (…) and is awaiting a report from the organizers of the event,” the spokesman said.

5  Forum / The Buzz Central / Fatai Rolling Dollar's Children May Drop Out Of School Soon; Due To Money on: 23-06-2013 09:17 PM

Though death has stopped the beat of highlife singer, Fatai Olagunju, popularly known as Rolling Dollar, his family wants his fans to keep the tempo going, otherwise there will be "trouble". The location was Millennium Estate, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos residence of deceased highlife singer, Fatai Olagunju, otherwise called Rolling Dollar.

His two wives, Zainab and Serifat, some of his children including Sikiru-who is the singer’s 50-year-old first son, wore a pensive mood as this correspondent walked into their home...

It was evident from their faces that they were yet to come to terms with the reality of the death of the 86-year-old songbird, Rolling Dollar, who breathed his last on June 12, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the acclaimed “fairest and freest” election in Nigeria. The musician shot to stardom a few years back via a successful album, Won Kere si Number Wa. But despite his fame, the family is worried about the education of his younger children.

One of the children, Jamiu, told our correspondent that he was still saddened by the death of his father, expressing uncertainty over his future. He explained that he and his other siblings would miss their father’s pieces of advice.

The young Olagunju regretted that his late father was unable to fulfil the promise he made to him concerning his education.

Jamiu stated, “Anytime he was around, he used to advise us on things we should do and the ones we should avoid. He promised me that he would make sure I studied up to university level. It is unfortunate that when my father was making the promise, he did not know that he would die this year.”

He added that when the news of his father’s death was broken to him, the first thing he remembered was the promise he made to him, regarding his university education.

“When I was told about his death, I remembered what he promised me. I also thought about my education. It is my desire to be a singer like my father but I want to go to school first. To honour my father, I will take to music someday. He became popular as a highlife singer but I want to be a hip-hop artiste,” he added.

Rolling Dollar might have arrived on the big stage late in life but his works were recognised by highlife lovers, music buffs and fellow musicians. After his death, President Goodluck Jonathan was one of many notable individuals who praised the good work of the late singer. Zainab, who had just finished saying her prayers, toldSUNDAY PUNCH that she was yet to believe that her husband had left her forever. She recalled that she married the musician after her first marriage failed, adding that Rolling Dollar was yet to hit the stardom when he married her.

She said, “I was staying with an aunt at Olorunsogo, Mushin area of Lagos about 13 years ago when I met him. I used to see him pass by but I did not know that he had interest in me. I was a bit sick when he called me on a Sunday. He jokingly asked me if I would not mind preparing Ramadan food for him because it was the fasting period. He later noticed some patches at both corners of my mouth, indicating that I had been sick. I told him I had used some drugs but he insisted on buying some more for me.”

Zainab said the musician did not even stop at that. According to her, he also prepared rice and asked one of his children to take some to her house.

She added, “I later learnt that the year he met me was exactly three years after the death of his wife, who left three children behind. We got married in 2001 and I promised to take care of the children for him. His caring and honest nature drew me to him.”

She further stated that the family was apprehensive of how to cater for the children of the late artiste, who she said, did not leave anything behind. Zainab appealed to his fans to stand by them at their moment of grief.

Rolling Dollar’s younger wife, Serifat, who said she bore a boy and a girl for the deceased singer, also reiterated that their husband did not leave any money to train their children.

When the highlife maestro was alive, Serifat said he cared so much for the children and would do anything to make them happy. But his death seemed to have caught her and the rest of the family unawares.

“Our husband did not leave any money. We hope his fans and government will stand by us. The major challenge we are facing right now is how to ensure that our children continue their education. I am a businesswoman and I only survive on the little profit I make,” she stated.

Rolling Dollar’s eldest child, Sikiru, who said he left the Nigerian Educational and Development Council in 1996, told SUNDAY PUNCH that he left his father at seven.

He stated that he was unhappy because of the inability to see his father before he died, adding that he was also sick when he was informed about his ill-health.

Sikiru said, “My father is one man that I like so much. I live at Ikenne in Ogun State. I was so sad when I was told that he was ill because I was also indisposed at the time. I thought that his sickness was not something serious because he was a strong man until I was told of the urgent need to see him. Apart from my sickness, I was also broke but I pleaded that those around him, especially his wives, should take good care of him. Immediately I was strong enough to move around, I set out for Lagos to see him but it was unfortunate that he died before I could reach him. I was on the road when I received the call about his death.”

Sikiru however eulogised his father’s virtues, saying he was happy that God gave the family a wonderful father who never maltreated his children

“My father taught us never to misbehave, steal or look down on anybody. These are some of the virtues I imbibed from him and I am happy to say that the lessons are of great value to me. They have assisted my journey in life.”

Although 50-year-old Sikiru left his father a long time ago, he said that he once followed him to a music show in Port Novo, Benin Republic. He also said he visited him at regular intervals and that during some of the visits, he watched his rehearsals.

“He was a great performer. He was lively on the stage despite his age and his sense of humour during performances drew a large followership to him,” said Sikiru.

Folk singer, Segun Akinlolu, otherwise known as Beautiful Nubia, described the late entertainer as a colourful and youthful character who was always full of joy and life. Nubia said each time he met the deceased artiste, he would give him a big hug and pray for him.

“He was full of appreciation for our music and called himself my ‘Number One Fan.’ He loved playing music and each time he climbed the stage, he thrilled fans in a special way. Nobody wanted Rolling Dollar to leave the stage. The last time I spoke with him was a couple of months back. He appeared more subdued than usual but we discussed his participation in this year’s Eniobanke Music Festival. It’s sad the he will not be there but we shall celebrate him at the festival,” Nubia said.

The Oh! What A Feeling singer added that as Rolling Dollar was being remembered by friends and fans, it was crucial for his legacy to be protected and sustained. He stated that every artist is a blessing to the society and their passing should always be met with positive reflection and honest effort to continue their works and times in the collective memory of all.

On Thursday, the eight-day Fidau prayer was held for Rolling Dollar who was buried in his house located in Imaya, Ikorodu area of Lagos State. As sympathisers continue to call on the family to commiserate with them, how to secure the future of the children the artiste left behind is now the major concern.

The late singer was said to have been wrongly diagnosed of malaria at the first hospital where he was taken to. Another hospital in Surulere initially reportedly diagnosed him with pneumonia. But after looking into his medical history, especially the record from a US hospital where he was first treated before returning home from his last trip a few weeks ago, further diagnoses revealed he had cancer of the lungs.

Pa Dollar’s many wives and final wish

The musician married five wives and had nine children. Two women who were with him until his death gave birth to four of the children. The eldest of the four children is aged 12 and he is in primary five. His first son said the late singer pampered his children.

“My father would go to any length to ensure the comfort of his children,” he said, recalling how he showered him with gifts as the only child of his mother.

He added that the late entertainer used to buy gifts from Domino stores in Lagos whenever he was returning from a show a long time ago. He also created time to take his children to his hometown in Ede, Osun State, before his death. Sikiru said his father would fight any of his wives that beat his children.

One of the wives, Zainab, said she could not fulfil the final wish of the late singer. Narrating Rolling Dollar’s frantic effort to see his children before his death, Zainab said he begged her to bring the children to him when he was at a hospital in Surulere, Lagos. She said she was taking the children to him the next day when she was told that he had passed on.

SUNDAY PUNCH also learnt that the late singer never allowed women to cook his food till he died. One of his wives said he took that decision to avoid being served a meal that didn’t have the taste he wanted.

His two wives said he was not a rich man in terms of monetary value, but he was wealthy when one considers the name he left behind, his prestige and character. They said he had no money in the bank but he was always happy when he began to sing.

Two weeks before his death, our correspondent was at his Oko-Oba residence to interview him. It was exactly three days after his return from the music tour of the US and as he slept on a mat in his sitting room, he told our correspondent that he was too sick to grant the interview that was earlier scheduled for that day.

6  Forum / The Buzz Central / I'm Not Sure I Will Marry Any Man Again ––Actress Chika Ike on: 23-06-2013 09:11 PM

Actress Chika Ike recently moved into a big house in one of the rich neighbourhood in Lagos. She is now an independent women, at her young age. But why did she take such decision? Her ex-husband didn't treat her well, .com gathered that there was 'serious beatings' in the marriage.

See what Chika Ike said about her love life below...

I would not want to talk about the experience with early marriage and spousal abuse. When you get married, things happen along the line and you ask yourself if it is something you can take. Everybody has their share of experience in marriage. I don’t like talking about it because I’m trying to get over it.
The next man I will marry? I am not sure I am going to get married but if I eventually do, I will just let go and allow God to guide me. But if it does not work out, happiness is all that matters. I cannot sacrifice my happiness for anybody.I thought marriage is all about sacrifices; how come she is not willing to sacrifice for any man?

7  Forum / Relationships & Romance / DEAR READERS: I Caught My Father In Bed With My Wife! on: 23-06-2013 08:58 PM

UNEDITED:

Ironically this happened a day after she told me that she was carrying my baby. The strange thing is that my father and wife are behaving as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. My father simply got up from my matrimonial bed and ordered me to follow him.

In my living room, he gave me a cheque of N25m to buy myself a car of my choice while my wife went into the kitchen to prepare dinner. The whole thing appeared to be like a movie as I looked from my father to my wife. A presence more powerful than me held me down, preventing me from going after either my father or wife.

I eventually summoned the courage to move and found myself going towards my mother’s apartment. When I got there and narrated the whole incident to her, she begged me not to fight or say anything about it to anybody. My elder brother who came into my mother’s apartment while I was narrating the incident, laughed and patted me on my shoulders without saying anything.

My immediate elder sister, who has refused to come back to Nigeria from London since she left eight years ago, wasn’t surprised by my story. She only told me to take things easy and not try to make trouble with my wife if I valued my life. I am the last born of three children and the favorite of my father in particular. That night, my mother came into our apartment to take my wife with her. I didn’t sleep throughout the night wondering what strange things were going on in my family.

The next day as early as 6a.m., my father came over to my apartment to more or less warn me about trying to make trouble. He told me what I witnessed was beyond me and that it would continue to be the pattern until he got tired. After he left, I ran to my friend’s place who in turn took me to Epe to consult with a spiritualist. Without much ado, the spiritualist, told me that I will learn to live with the situation else I would become insane if I try to challenge my father.

He said, not even my mother can challenge my father. He said, my father has gone too far to change and that things have been damaged beyond repairs in the things he has done to us; that it would take the grace of God for my siblings and I to overcome the spiritual problems my father in his quest for power, money and fame has done. He too advised me to continue to tolerate the situation by accepting to live with my wife who he said, was brought into my life by my father for his purpose.

Two days after our visit, the friend that took me is critically ill in the hospital. doctors are yet to say what precisely is wrong with him. I don’t need anybody to tell me where the attack is coming from. This has made me very determined to fight my father to a standstill. I want to confront and expose him for all his friends and associates to know who he really is. I am yet to return home after that day. At night I keep seeing my father in my dream telling me to come home for my own good. My mother and elder brother have been relentless on the phone urging me to come back home.

We all live within the massive family compound which is actually a mini estate as all our domestic employees with their family live within the compound. My father doesn’t allow anyone working for him in the house to live outside the premises. He insists on it and has a school bus that takes all the children of his staff to and from school, my mother runs.

Please .com readers help me as I am so confused. I feel sorry for everybody in that house. How do I challenge my father and still be alive to tell my story. I feel so helpless and lost. Do save me.

Viloude Louis, who was allegedly killed by her 13-year-old brother when he performed wrestling moves on her that he had seen on TV.
Vilger Louis talks about his daughter Viloude, dead after suffered multiple injuries after her half-brother allegedly beat her.
A young teen beat his little half-sister to death using wrestling moves he’d copied from the TV, police claim.

Devalon Armstrong, 13, is accused of repeatedly slamming Viloude Louis, 5, onto a bed, punching her in the stomach, jumping on her back and elbow-dropping into her kidneys.

She suffered broken ribs, internal bleeding and liver lacerations from the brutal bashing at their Terrytown, Louisiana, home.

Cops say Armstrong was babysitting his younger sibling on Sunday afternoon when he decided to test out some moves he’d seen on World Wrestling Entertainment.

Later complaining of having a stomach ache, she went upstairs to brush her teeth — before being found by her brother 30 minutes later in crippling pain on the bathroom floor.

Realizing she was no longer breathing, Armstrong took her downstairs to the sofa and dialed 911.
Paramedics arrived on the scene but found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead soon after.

As there were no outward signs of injury, Louis’s death was at first deemed “unclassified.”

But a coroner’s report released on Tuesday found she had died of multiple injuries.

Armstrong, who reportedly confessed to carrying out the moves, was arrested later that day on suspicion of second-degree murder.

He is currently being held at a juvenile detention center, reports The Times-Picayune.

Psychiatrists will now evaluate whether Armstrong is mentally able to participate in his own defense. A hearing is scheduled for next month.

10  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Floods Bring Snakes To Schools In Delta on: 23-06-2013 08:44 PM

Public schools in areas prone to flood in Delta State have been taken over by snakes, even as many of them have collapsed, a woman leader at Okoh community and a flood victim, Mrs. Ify Obi, told the United Nations delegation to Delta State at a town hall meeting organized by the state government in Asaba at the weekend.
Mrs. Obi said the Okoh/Amakon primary school in Okoh town is one of the schools that have been taken over by snakes and other dangerous reptiles, thereby preventing pupils and teachers from attending classes.

While appealing to the UN to assist the Nigerian government to tackle the problem, she lamented that the flood is taking a toll on them.

Joy Obiorah, a staff of Okwe General Hospital, and victim of flood, said, “the flood has completely finished us. No food, no house and many of us are being affected by all kinds of ailments”.

She said her greatest regret is that her parents have become refugees in a remote community because there is no money to erect a new building for them after flood destroyed her father’s house last year.

The state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, on his part, told the UN delegation that the flood had a huge impact on the state and its agricultural products.

Uduaghan said: “Many of the victims were affected by various forms of diseases. The state did its best to avert the trend by evacuating victims from affected communities to new locations across the state to check the trend, especially nursing mothers and their babies”.

He said a committee of experts was set up to access the extent of damage, and that their recommendations were sent to the UN for immediate assistance.

He flayed local government chairmen for not distributing relief materials to victims.
Responding, Valerie Amos, UN under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Co-ordinator, acknowledged receipt of the state’s report. She also commended the state government for the steps taken to ameliorate the plight of the victims.

11  Forum / The Buzz Central / My Mum Told Me To Throw My Cousin Inside Well — 14yr Old Murder Suspect on: 23-06-2013 06:37 PM

The story sounded bizarre and confounding but it is true. The discovery of the body of three-year-old Bose Olaniyi in a well in the neighbourhood has thrown the residents of Ilupeju-Isokan area of Akobo into mourning. But the most shocking aspect of the sad occurrence was that the suspect in this case is no other person than the deceased’s cousin, Rilwan Olaniyi, who confessed to have acted on the promptings of his mother to kill his cousin!

How could 14-year-old Rilwan, a Primary Six pupil, ever think of killing his little cousin? Crime Reports gathered that Mrs Bola Olaniyi and Mrs Morenike Olaniyi are two women married to two brothers. The former, who is Rilwan’s mother, is married to the elder of the two brothers and due to circumstances, the latter and her husband with their children started living in the house bulit by the elder brother.

It happened in the evening of June 17. Little Bose’s mother, Morenike, a mother of four, reportedly went to buy yam flour in the neighbourhood to prepare dinner for her children. She left her children behind but the youngest, Bose, cried after her mother, insisting on following her, as if she had a premonition of what would befall her that night. Morenike however sent her daughter back, telling her to go and stay with her siblings. And with that she waved a final bye to her daughter as she never saw her alive again. Dinner for the household later became a forgone issue.

Crime Reports gathered that by the time she came back, she could not see her daughter. As neighbours joined her in the search, they later found the body of the girl in a nearby well at about 11.30p.m. Policemen from Akobo were said to have been called and they in turn contacted fire services which came to bring the body out of the well. A boy, whose name was given as Lanre was said to have revealed that he saw Rilwan carrying the missing girl.

After much prodding, Rilwan reportedly confessed and said it was his mother who asked him to kill the girl because Morenike, the deceased’s mother, was not according her the respect due to her. The boy and his mother were promptly arrested by the police while his father, who was almost lynched to death for what the mob termed his inability to handle situation in his home, was also rescued by the police and kept in custody.

When speaking with Crime Reports, Rilwan confirmed that he was the one who threw the baby in the well but denied that it was his mother who sent him. “Bose was at the backyard looking for her mother while her siblings were at the passage. I held her by the hand and took her to the well. There was no one around then so I threw her inside.” When asked why he acted so callously, Rilwan said he was prompted by a strange spirit.

His mother, Mrs Bola Olaniyi (32), a mother of five told Crime Reports: “Rilwan is my first born. On the day of the occurrence, I was not at home. I went out to avoid a debtor and left my four children at home. My sister-in-law children were also at home and Rilwan was yet to return from school.

“I returned at about 7.30p.m. and met Rilwan holding my last child outside. That was when my sister-in-law came and starting calling for her daughter, saying that she could not see him. I asked her whether she followed her when she went to buy something but she replied that she left the little girl at home.

“We went to inform the police and they told us to come back after 24 hours, advising that we should go and search the neighbourhood. We continued searching . My husband came when I called him and as he tried to calm his brother’s wife who had become hysterical, she held on to his shirt, saying that it was our son who carried her daughter.

“A neighbour joined us in the search and when he opened a well nearby our residence, we were shocked to see the girl inside, floating. We went to the residence of the chairman of the landlords association and while there, someone came and said the mob was beating my husband because my son said he was the one who threw his cousin in the well. I was advised to stay back to avoid mob action. That was when my son seized the opportunity to lie against me that I was the one who said he should commit the act.

“How can I do such a thing when I have my own children? It is true I had issues with my sister-in-law but they were the normal disagreements you would find among extended family members. They were nothing so serious as for anyone to think of such evil. I did not send my son to kill his cousin.

“Later, when policemen were interrogating him, he told them that he mentioned my name out of fear, saying that he threw the girl in the well because my sister-in-law used to call him a thief. I have suffered over that boy too much because of his stubborness. I am a muslim but I attend churches, fasting and praying because of him. I am even afraid to stand beside him because I never knew he could conjure such an evil plan and carry it out.”

Confirming the incident and the arrest of the suspects, the police image maker in Oyo State, Olabisi Ilobanafor, told Crime Reports that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku for further investigation.

Don Jazzy has got to be the most generous Nigerian celebrity ever. A few weeks ago he gave a mutual friend of ours who has kidney issues, N1million. I kinda asked the guy to ask Don Jazzy, and a few days later, he calls me to say IDJA gave him N1m. And today I found out that he has also donated N1million to prolific music producer, OJB Jezreel. He did it quietly a few days back but when I found out, well, I just had to share it. And let's not forget the N2million he gave cancer patient Funmi Lawal last year and many things I hear he does very quietly. God bless him. Also, thanks to Ruggedman who has also donated to OJB.
Now calling on other artists to please do same. OJB Jezreel needs N15million for a kidney transplant in India. This guy has done so much for music in Nigeria and had helped so many Nigerian artists achieve success. Now is the time to give back.

Mother Chen Wei holds her son Xiao, who has a tail-like growth due to spina bifida. Doctors will repair the baby's spinal canal to correct the condition.
A mother in China is urging doctors to help her seven-month-old son, who was born with a three-inch-long “tail” that is still growing.
The boy, Xiao Wei, was born with spina bifida, a disorder in which the spinal column is not fully closed.
Xiao has a variant of the condition called myelomeningocele, in which the spinal cord protrudes, forming a sac that contains the spinal matter.
Mother Chen Wei, from China’s Guangdong province, said surgeons have told her they cannot simply remove the growth.
Surgeon Huang Chanping told news agencies: “The growth is quite well developed and now measures some 10 centimeters.
“If we cut it off, it will simply grow again. We need to repair the spinal canal first to stop it reoccurring.”

19  Forum / Relationships & Romance / DEAR READERS: I Caught My Father In Bed With My Wife! on: 22-06-2013 10:05 PM

Do save me.
