Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, in an interview recently said, shared one of the reasons for the failure of her first marriage. She revealed how she rushed in and out of her marriage.

According to her, she knew less about her former husband which led to the failure and dissolution of her first marriage.

“I rushed into that marriage and I rushed out. Then, I was not even deeply involved in acting like now. One thing I have learnt is that the older you get, the more calmer you become and the more you reason deeply before you take action. My first marriage was very fast. A family of five have reportedly died of generator fumes in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos. It was learnt that the owner of the house bought the generator newly and must have left it in the house which led to then suffocation of the couple and their three children.
A resident who claimed anonymity said, “The family just got the generator. Jimoh had switched it on for his family that evening. I also observed that it worked all through the night. If you check their apartment, it has both the completed and the uncompleted sections. They lived in two rooms which were already completed.

“I think, when they were about to sleep, Jimoh, for the safety of the generator, might have brought it inside their room, because that was where the people met the generator when the door was forced open. Their corpses showed that they had suffocated to death. They are still lying there, you can go and check.”

On how their bodies were discovered, it was noted that a woman who wanted to go to the market with Jimoh’s wife saw them first and raised alarm. “The woman sold drinks. She was to go with Jimoh’s wife to a place on Thursday for market. When the woman didn’t hear from her, she decided to visit her at home. When she got to their apartment on Friday morning, she noticed that their door was locked. She called the phone number, and saw that it rang inside. That was how she peeped through, and saw the dead bodies. Then, she ran out and raised the alarm.”

“Nobody could move near the corpses so that we will not be implicated. The landlords have reported to the Sagamu Road Police Division, and they are making plans to get an ambulance to take the bodies away.”

Oscar Pistorius, the Olympic and Paralympic athlete, has been found guilty of culpable homicide for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. The new verdict will make the double amputee athlete receive anything from 15 years in prison to a suspended sentence, which would potentially allow the him a chance to resurrect his sporting career.

The maximum prison sentence for culpable homicide is 15 years, but there is no minimum term and the sentence is at the discretion of the judge. The second count on which he has been found guilty – discharging a firearm in a public place – carries a maximum jail term of five years.

Both state and defence would be expected to make submissions to the judge ahead of her decision on sentencing, which will not be today.

Masipa said on the first day of delivering her verdict that it was clear Pistorius acted unlawfully in opening fire at his home, but she cleared him of the murder charges, for which she said the evidence was “purely circumstantial”.

Masipa said a “reasonable person” would not have fired four shots into the toilet cubicle, and that Pistorius acted “too hastily and used excessive force. In the circumstances, it is clear his conduct was negligent.”

Pistorius has said he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot four times through a locked bathroom door, killing her almost instantly.

He was cleared of firing a firearm through a sunroof and of illegal possession of ammunition, but found guilty of illegally discharging a firearm in a crowded restaurant in January 2013, weeks before Steenkamp’s death.

A 55-year old woman, Fatima Tsaraka, has been arraigned before a court in Niger state, for allegedly killing her son. She was arraigned with 2 others, 65-year Amina Mohammed and 38-years Zhitsun Aliyu.

The victims were said to have abducted the boy, took him to a nearby bush where they slaughtered him, made a meal of his flesh and drank his blood. When the case was red to them, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges, however appealed for leniency and blamed their act on a spell cast on them by witches.

They are facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and cannibalism.

At the resumed hearing of the case, the Magistrate, Mr Hamidu Bima, ordered the continued detention of the accused pending legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Hollywood actor, Richard Kiel, the 7’2″ actor best known for portraying steel-toothed villain Jaws in a pair of James Bond films, has died. He was 74.

A spokesperson at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California, confirmed Wednesday that Kiel was a patient at the hospital and died. Kiel’s agent, Steven Stevens, also confirmed his death. Both declined to provide further details.

Kiel famously played the cable-chomping henchman who tussled with Roger Moore’s Bond in 1977′s The Spy Who Loved Me and 1979′s Moonraker. Bond quipped of the silent baddie: “His name’s Jaws. He kills people.”

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested two men, Bashiru Raji an indigene of Ondo state and Christian Jacob from Enugu state, out of a five-man gang for molesting a journalist and also got N1 million ransom from her people before releasing her.

After the committing the crime in 2012, the gang realised they were wanted by the police and fled from South West to base in Delta state but came to Lagos for another operation last week, where they were arrested.

36 years old Rabi who is married with seven children said, “We are five members of the gang. It was one of my neighbours who introduced me to the gang ─ a boy who usually smoked weeds and Indian hemp. His name is Ebiri. During the kidnap operation of that female journalist, I was the one who drove the vehicle.

“We picked her on the expressway and took her to our hideout. We collected N1m ransom before we released her. We also raped her. I did not rape her, but the other gang members raped her. I was given N200,000 for that operation. I don’t know why the gang kidnapped her. The other members initiated the operation, not me.

“I was working as a mechanic initially. Apart from the kidnapping of the female journalist, we carried out other operations. We knew we were wanted by the police. That was why we went to Delta State. It was while in Delta that we were called that there was work for us in Lagos. When we arrived in Lagos, we were arrested.”

Raji added that the person who called them had claimed they would rob a Mallam who had dollars in Lagos and also participate in a bank robbery operation.

35 years old Jacob said, “I was a trader in Oshodi Market, Akure. I was selling foodstuffs. One of my friends at that time called me to participate in the kidnapping of the woman. I was given only N10,000.

“But apart from foodstuffs, I also have a weeds farm. I sell the weeds mostly to big buyers from the northern part of the country. I have been doing weeds farming for about three years. After each harvest, I make about N150,000 from the sale.”

Kanye West was rushed to hospital suffering a major health scare just hours before performing at his final concert in Melbourne overnight, reports Woman’s day.

The rapper was whisked to Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital in Richmond suffering a migraine. He was given an emergency MRI just after 2pm on Wednesday. The 37-year-old had one side of his face covered as he was rushed through the back entrance, surrounded by high security.

Nurses were forced to ask patients to move out of the waiting room and consulting rooms so Kanye, who is in Australia for his high-energy Yeezus tour, could be treated privately.

Despite his scare, Kanye later performed to a packed crowed at Rod Laver Arena following his release from hospital sometime after 4.30pm. Kanye’s record label had no comment about his hospital stay, but said his shows will continue as scheduled.

“Kanye went on stage last night in Melbourne as scheduled. The tour continues at Sydney’s Allphones Arena tomorrow and Saturday, before concluding in Brisbane on Monday night,” a Live Nation spokeswoman said.

Judge Masipa has announced that Oscar Pistorius is not guilty of the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The judge said there were not enough facts to prove the charge of pre-meditated murder against the athlete.

    She said it “makes sense” that the screaming heard by neighbours was Pistorius and not Steenkamp.
    The evidence of neighbours is “fallible” and some – such as that of Michelle Burger and her husband Charl Johnson – should be rejected entirely.
    Masipa accepts the defence timetable that shots were fired at around 3.12am, meaning screams heard after this time could not have been those of the victim. The sounds heard at 3.17am were the cricket bat breaking the door, as the defence maintained.
    But she says that Pistorius’ evidence that if he had wanted to kill the perceived intruder, he would have fired higher is “inconsistent with someone who shot without thinking”.
    Defence claims that police tampered with the scene “pale into insignificance” in the face of other evidence.
    WhatsApp messages between the couple “prove nothing” for either side.
    Evidence from Steenkamp’s stomach contents that she ate later than Pistorius claimed is “inconclusive” and in any case does not help the state’s case.

Masipa says that Pistorius genuinely – though wrongly – thought his life, and that of Steenkamp, were in danger.

“There is nothing in the evidence to suggest this belief was not honestly obtained. The accused is the only person who can say what his state of mind was at the time he fired the shots that killed the deceased. The accused has not admitted that he had the intention to shoot and kill the deceased or any other person. On the contrary, he stated he had no intention to shoot or kill the deceased.”

Masipa is still to rule on the lesser charge of culpable homicide and could acquit Pistorius if she believes he shot her by mistake.

Pistorius killed Steenkamp at his home on 14 February 2013 when he fired a gun through the closed door of his toilet. He had told the court he thought he was shooting at an intruder.

The corpse of a year old baby was found on Itele Road, Ewu Ajasa community in Lafenwa, Ogun state, while some labourers were clearing the weeds in the building. The men took to their heels when they discovered this, which triggered the attention of the neighbourhood.

It was suspected that the female child was dumped in the uncompleted building in the early hours of Friday.

A woman, who claimed to be overseeing the construction of the building, described those who abandoned the corpse as wicked.

She said, “I am not the owner of the site, it belongs to a woman who is a member of my church. Since she doesn’t live around, she asked me to help her to supervise the building.

“It was on Friday that I was called that they found a dead girl on the site. I was as surprised and horrified as everyone because nobody knows their intention. I only went there and left after the community leaders said they would bring in the police.”

The secretary of the Community Development Association, Pastor Aseyi Clement, said, “We first called the Baale, Chief Segun Ajasa, before we reported the matter to the police. We took a picture of the corpse and with the permission of the police, we buried the child. We did that to avert an outbreak of any disease.

“Our investigations showed that the child was brought from a far place and we had to report back to the police so they could also make their findings.”

Punch learnt that a suspect had been arrested and was being interrogated at the Itele Police Station.
