Nollywood’s veteran actor, Jim Iyke, has signed a multimillion dollar deal with Invest Gambia (an investment company based in The Gambia) for the production of three indigenous movies.

The contract signed by the actor will require for him to produce movies that’ll showcase investment opportunities and various talents that exist in Gambia; as well as promote the Gambian movie industry to the outside world.

According to reports, the deal will also involve the establishment of a joint venture film production company named Musketeers Production.

Some protesting students of the University of Lagos and policemen clashed in Lagos on Friday.
The students were protesting the Democracy Day’s renaming of UNILAG as the Moshood Abiola University by President Goodluck Jonathan.
As the policemen fired teargas to disperse the crowd, the students threw bottles and stones at the security men and their vehicles.
A female student, Miss Funmi Ayodele, 22, of the English Department, fainted after a policeman sprayed teargas in her face.
She was immediately rushed to the university medical centre, where she was revived and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Why I took a break

The entertainment industry does not require you to be active every moment. Sometimes, you have to relax and take care of other issues. I have not done any production in a while. It is because I got married. You need to nurture and water your marriage, not just relax. You need to give your marriage time, invest in it and enjoy it. And this takes time. You have to stay away from other things and concentrate on it. You have to set your priorities right. Now I am back. I just finished a production. I am involved in other projects. I am writing a book on Anita Hogan. I have many stories to tell.

My take on competition

I am not participating in any competition. A lot of people come into the industry with that mentality. You have to carve your own niche. You make your contribution to the development of the industry. In the process, you will not look at what other people are doing. Of course, this is a money-making business and a producer always wants to use a ‘marketable’ face in his movie. The way it is, I don’t even need to inform any producer or director that I am back in the industry. In this age of weird happenings and increasing violence and tragedies, there are still some stories that bring sad tears to the eyes. One of such heart-wrenching stories is that of Temitayo Omoniyi, a fresh graduate of the University of Ibadan who studied English and Literary Studies.

The 21-year-old, having passed out with flying colours, was posted to Ogun State for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Traveling down to her university recently to collect her call up letter, she used the opportunity to greet friends and members of the Redeemed Christian Fellowship of which she was a member when she was on campus. Unknown to the victim, she was mingling with friends and acquaintances for the last time. By the next day, Saturday, March 3, while she was travelling home to Ilesha in order to prepare for her trip to the NYSC camp in Sagamu, Ogun State, she was involved in fatal motor accident. Sadly, after lying in coma for one week in the hospital, she died on March 10, 2012.

Chagas, a tropical disease spread by insects, is causing some fresh concern following an editorial—published earlier this week in a medical journal—that called it "the new AIDS of the Americas."
More than 8 million people have been infected by Chagas, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States.
The editorial, published by the Public Library of Science's Neglected Tropical Diseases, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV.
