81  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: where is the best place to race kids? on: 25-09-2008 03:18 PM
I have been faced with this predicament in the past. I have a two years old son who lives with my mother in Lagos and I have been torn between leaving him to grow up in Nigeria or to bring him here to live with me. Certain factors has helped me resolve to let him live in Nigeria for now. Below are some of those.....

1.  Discipline: I would like to have a free rein to discipline my son without having to worry about DSS. This does not imply flogging cos it never worked on me when I was young.

2. Culture: I would like for my son to learn how important the culture is and how important it is to be family oriented and most importantly, I want to shield him from the issue of race that characterize most African American reasonings in the US until he's old enough to understand and make wise judgments.

3.  A child needs his father: Bringing him to the US wouldn't make any difference considering the crazy schedules that I keep here. So I have made arrangements to visit him and be with him for at least 1 week every 6 months. I also talk to him on daily basis for a few minutes and he says words like this to me ..............."how r u?, what did u eat? etc.

Most of you naijapals would agree with me that the way we were raised in Nigeria is quite different from how children are raised here and I'm of the old skool who believes in enforcing discipline.

Is it? 9ice is broke?

If he was able to pay 7m out of pocket then I wouldn't consider him broke. If I had 7m now I would be on my way back to Nigeria now for good.

If you are basing a president's performance solely on the Nigeria experience then you are in for a shock brotha. Nigeria is far from being a democratic government cos the leaders still act as if the country is their personal property. It's pathetic that the federal government of Nigeria would close down a tv channel on the flimsy excuse that it ran an untrue story about our president. What happened to the freedom of press? What kind of government does that? I don't believe George W. Bush would close down CNN on that excuse. Anyway, may God deliver us from the clutches of this evil men that holds Nigeria captive.

he's winning the the election weather the whites like it or not! change is the most important thing now so let it be.

Guess what brotha? He needs the white to win the election and if they don't want him he can't get there because whites are still the majority in America and white folks still has the highest voting record in the United States. Voting is simply not a brotha thing.

There was a time Pete Edochie used to be the highest paid in Nigeria but those days are gone. The last I checked RMD was the highest paid he made over the equivalent of 2 million naira for his part in the widely publicized movie "Critical Assignment".

In Nigerian culture, its literally a custom for people to finish education before they actually find love. When you live in countries like the UK, your faced with pressure to be in a relationship especially when you see people younger than you with someone. But seeing as we're still schooling should it be right or wrong and do you think that customs should be broken if we're not living in Nigeria? Like they say; when in rome do as the romans do.

There ain't no culture to save you from the Falls or Winter cold.
