| Friday, June 3, 2011 Pastor, another kidnapper held, mobbed
From Chido Okafor, Warri
IT was end of the road for two kidnappers yesterday afternoon in Ughelli, Delta State, as they were caught in the process of collecting a ransom for the four-year-old daughter of an hotelier. They were heavily beaten by an angry crowd who besieged the police van, which brought them to the hotel where the girl was abducted. Policemen apprehended them at their hideout while trying to pick up the ransom. One of them, said to be mastermind of the abduction, was surprisingly a pastor. It was learnt that the girl was quietly taken away in the morning last Wednesday from the premises of the hotel by a worker there. When the parents raised an alarm over the missing girl, neighbours said they saw the worker taking her away. The Guardian learnt the parents of the girl were contacted by the kidnappers last Wednesday evening from their hideout in a bush a few miles from the Ughelli township during, where they demanded a ransom of N4 million. The parents alerted the police who advised them to play along with the kidnappers. The kidnappers allegedly told the girl's parents where to drop the money, which they did. However, when the kidnappers came out to pick what was supposed to be the ransom, they were shocked as policemen appeared and apprehended them after shooting into the air. The hotel worker, who kidnapped the girl and identified himself as Jimmy Benson, disclosed that he was told by his pastor to abduct her and that he would be given N1 million. On his part, the pastor, in his 40s, said it was the handiwork of the devil.

Man in court for stealing fried chicken
A man, Emeka Nwachukwu, on Wednesday appeared before an Abuja Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing 17 pieces of fried chicken, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. Hyginus Ejiofor, a resident of 1, Safix Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, had reported at Wuse Zone 3 Police Station that Nwachukwu, of the same address, committed the offence on April 8, 9 and 10. He alleged that Nwachukwu broke into his garden and stole many items including the fried chicken. Other items allegedly stolen by the accused, included 10 bottles of whiskey, seven bottles of red wine, four bottles of beer, four bottles of red label whisky, six bottles of malt, home theatre projector, and one big bag of rice all valued at N332,000. Ejiofor further alleged that the accused assaulted him in his garden, tore his shirt valued at N3,000 and called him names when he accosted him. According to him, he lost his Blackberry phone valued at N65,000 and N35,000 cash which he was holding. Ejiofor explained that he rented the garden from Nwachukwu and paid him N1.4m on February 2, while the garden was handed over to him on March 4. He said that Nwachukwu wanted him to buy some items, which he refused because the costs were too high, adding that thereafter, the suspect began to threaten him and offered to refund his money. Nwachukwu was charged with criminal trespass, theft, assault and mischief, which contravened the Penal Code Law. The accused pleaded not guilty, claiming that he had been a good friend to Ejiofor and lived around the same place. Following his plea, the prosecutor, Abdullahi Adamu, prayed the court for an adjournment to open his case. Magistrate Vera Tomtukura granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 and one surety who must be a civil servant of any grade level and must live within the court's jurisdiction.

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Muslims call for islamic rules in NIGERIA |
on: 27-02-2011 07:27 PM
| Thousands of Muslims in Zaria in northern Nigeria have ended Unity Week concurrent with the birthday of the Holy Prophet, Mohammad with a call for a change of attitude among all Muslims across the world. Unity Week was first initiated by the late Imam Khomeini, Iran's Islamic Republic Founder, with the aim of brining more unity between Shias and Sunnis across the world. Unity Week in Nigeria has brought together Muslims from all different groups including the Tijaniyya and Qadiriya sects, scholars and human rights advocates. Muslims stood in unity calling for an Islamic republic in Nigeria that will rule in line with Khomeinei's teachings. Peaceful marchers chanted slogans of praise, solidarity and support for the Muslim uprisings in Africa and the Middle East, and demanded an end to the un-Islamic rule in Nigeria. In his speech after the procession, one of Nigerian Islamic Leader, Sheikh El-Zakzaky said, the unity week as slated by the late Imam Khomeini is indeed a unifying factor among Muslims, and urged Muslims to stand together to chart a right Islamic course for Muslims across the world. The Sheikh went on to criticize the recent situation in the Middle East, were he says mass movements of people are ousting sit-tight dictators but only end up handing power over to the military apologists of their country. He says he believes military apologists lack the necessary leadership that will benefit their people. The unity week activities seem to be reminding Muslims irrespective of their difference, the true essence of the message of the Prophet Mohammad, his household, and the need for Islamic revival in their lives. | | |

| Makurdi youths on rampage as Police kills man News Wednesday, February 9, 2011
By peter duru
MAKURDI-Crisis broke out in Makurdi, yesterday afternoon, when angry youths laid siege on the busy Makurdi-Otukpo Federal highway after a trigger- happy police Sergeant, (names withheld) with the Benue State Police Command gunned down a middle-aged man, Aondowase Angu, at Kanshio area of Makurdi. The incident created pandemonium in the state capital leaving residents, especially parents whose wards attend the elitists Tiny Tots Nursery and Primary School located in the area, scampering with their kids for safety while vehicular movements were also brought to a halt. Vanguard gathered from the nephew of the deceased, Mr. Terfa Atile, that he and the deceased sat outside their compound when the police officer dressed in mufti attempted to trespass on their house. Mr. Atile said the late Aondowase accosted the officer and urged him to stop the act which infuriated the Police Officer. He was said to have left the scene without uttering a word only to return dressed up in his uniform and immediately pulled out a gun and shot the young man and thereafter took to his heels. Aondowase was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi, where Doctors confirmed him dead. The brutal killing sparked angry reaction from youths of the area who burnt cars and property after barricading the Federal highway in search of any uniform personnel for reprisal attack. The mob also took to the burning of tires on the highway, and completely obstructed the flow of traffic. Benue State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, described the killing as "barbaric". Alh. Ibrahim frowned at the Police officer's uncivilized and nefarious attitude saying that it was unacceptable and cruel. He said, "The incident is barbaric. The police officer responsible for this will be arrested, detained, tried and subsequently dismissed. We will not condone such wicked and unlawful act from our officers", Mohammed fumed. At the time of filing this report, a detachment of mobile police officers had been deployed to the area to restore peace and also ensure that the crisis did not spread to other parts of the town. Vanguard further gathered that the late Angu before his demise was the only surviving son of his aged mother.

| Articles HOME > NEWS At Last, Iran Admits to Arms Shipment By Damilola Oyedele
09 Feb 2011 Views: 4,249
Font Size: a / A Foreign Affairs Minister, Ajumogobia Almost four months after Nigerian security officials seized an arms shipment, Iran has finally broken its silence and admitted that the 13 containers of arms and ammunition indeed emanated from it. It disclosed that the shipment was actually meant for The Gambia as part of a confidential agreement signed three years ago and that last October’s seizure was the third of such shipments to the West African nation. It was, however, not disclosed whether the first two had passed through Nigeria and evaded detection by security officials. Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Mr. Molla Abdulla, made these revelations at a press conference to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in Abuja yesterday. In a no-holds-barred session, Abdulla added that Nigerian authorities were already aware of the shipment from the time it berthed in Lagos in July 2010 and had already seized it. He queried why the State Security Service (SSS) chose such a sensitive era in Nigeria after the tension created by the October 1 bombings in Abuja to publicly “seize” the shipment.
“I had informally informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, and the Senate President David Mark that the shipment was meant for The Gambia, not Nigeria. I also asked them not to allow people who do not like the good Nigeria-Iran relationship to destroy our relationship with each other. I asked them to urge the Nigerian media to stop speculative stories until investigations were concluded,” he said. The envoy said no Iranian diplomat was a part of the shipment to Nigeria and denied reports that any suspect was sneaked out of the country during the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Nigeria. Abdullah admitted that businessman, Azim Aghajani, sought refuge in the embassy after the story broke and heat was turned on him. He however insisted that Aghajani had come into Nigeria legally and was transacting the business to tranship the arms to Gambia through legal channels.
“He came to us and explained the situation. We are here as an Embassy to help our nationals. We advised him to stay here. We informed Nigeria’s foreign ministry about it and they asked that access be granted to men of the SSS. We worked out modalities for this with Dr. Martin (Permanent Secretary, Foreign Affairs) and the SSS came here to talk to Ambajani and later said they wanted him in their office. “He was invited five times and they later decided to hold him in custody without informing us. We decided not to tell this to the press but our agreement with Ministry of Foreign Affairs was broken,” he added. On why the materials on the bill of laden were listed as building materials, Abdulla said the company responsible for the shipment probably decided to do that because of the sanctions against Iran since it was doing business with a French shipping company. “Gambia expelled our diplomat because they felt we had disclosed a confidential agreement which we had. Senegal also temporarily severed ties with us because it wondered why we had to send such huge shipment of arms to Gambia which is its neighbour,” he added. Tags: News, Nigeria

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / man force to sleep with his daughter |

| Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:08
Armed robbers forced male passengers aboard a Tamale-bound bus from Accra a fortnight ago to have sex with female passengers after robbing them of virtually everything. The horrifying experience occurred on Monday, October 11, 2010 between the hours of 1am and 2 am at a spot near Kintampo where the armed robbers struck. A passenger and near-victim who was only spared because she was in her period, Amina Mohammed, narrated on Adom FM on Wednesday, October 27, how the gang forced a man to break her own daughter’s virginity as they poked guns at his head to have sex with the about 14-year-old girl or pay with his life. The man was taking his daughter to school as she had gained admission to the Tamale Senior High School. Another elderly lady was paired with a young man, and as she wailed from what she said was excruciating pain, the heartless robbers ordered her to shut up and enjoy the act. But out of anger she cursed them, warning them God will punish them, while they laughed and claimed God had long punished them already. Speaking to the host of the programme, Jerry Justice, Amina who said she was travelling to Tamale for her father’s funeral together with her mother, narrated when they got to Kintampo sometime after midnight, the road had been blocked with three men on the right side of the road, three on the left, four in the middle and two standing behind wielding AK-47 assault rifles. Among the robbers, she said were two women who wore braids. Amina said the four standing in the middle of the road held torchlights which made the driver and passengers presume them to be policemen and so slowed down. The driver however accelerated upon realising that they were robbers, driving through the blockade. The robbers however pursued them on motorbikes and shot at the bus and eventually managed to stop the bus as the passengers screamed and prayed. A passenger was hit in the process. When the bus stopped, one of them boarded the bus and asked all on the bus to get down. They took all jewelleries, mobile phones and money on the passengers before announcing that the passengers were going to “enjoy” themselves. According to Amina, the robbers then asked all the female passengers to undress, and they were to take off all clothing, including their underwear and brassiere. The passengers were initially reluctant to obey the order, however warning shots scurried them into obedience. Amina said she was still dressed up, insisting she was in her period but the robbers persisted in seeing “evidence’, whereupon she also stripped before they told her she was a “bad luck” for their charms. They however gave her several slaps, just as they did to the other passengers. She said the robbers forced about three of the men to have sex with one female passenger and the experience was as terrifying as it was traumatic for both sides. The man who was forced to sleep with his daughter had protested vehemently and had vowed he was not capable of what the robbers were asking of him, however he gave up when the robbers fired shots on the ground around his feet. And as he bent over his daughter, they both burst into uncontrollable tears as they wailed over the taboo, with daughter asking her father to be gentle because the act was painful while the robbers also hit him with gun butts to “perform”. As punishment for his refusal to stop when he was asked to, the driver was handed five women to have sex with. And while all this went on, Amina said no vehicle passed, with the robbers escaping through the bush after they were done. The driver needed to be revived with water before he could regain some strength to continue the journey. The incident has since been reported to the police. Source: Adom FM

| Penis theft panic hits city
abs-cbnnews.com Posted at 04/24/2008 1:13 PM
KINSHASA (Reuters) - Police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft. Reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur. Rumors of penis theft began circulating last week in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo's sprawling capital of some 8 million inhabitants. They quickly dominated radio call-in shows, with listeners advised to beware of fellow passengers in communal taxis wearing gold rings. Purported victims, 14 of whom were also detained by police, claimed that sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear, in what some residents said was an attempt to extort cash with the promise of a cure. "You just have to be accused of that, and people come after you. We've had a number of attempted lynchings. ... You see them covered in marks after being beaten," Kinshasa's police chief, Jean-Dieudonne Oleko, told Reuters on Tuesday. Police arrested the accused sorcerers and their victims in an effort to avoid the sort of bloodshed seen in Ghana a decade ago, when 12 suspected penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs. The 27 men have since been released. "I'm tempted to say it's one huge joke," Oleko said. "But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it's become tiny or that they've become impotent. To that I tell them, 'How do you know if you haven't gone home and tried it'," he said. Some Kinshasa residents accuse a separatist sect from nearby Bas-Congo province of being behind the witchcraft in revenge for a recent government crackdown on its members. "It's real. Just yesterday here, there was a man who was a victim. We saw. What was left was tiny," said 29-year-old Alain Kalala, who sells phone credits near a Kinshasa police station.

| Teased as 'small,' man cuts off penis abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 01/20/2011 4:19 PM | Updated as of 01/21/2011 11:24 AM MANILA, Philippines - Teased by his friends for having a "small" sex organ, a man in Cagayan de Oro City did the unimaginable: he cut it off. Police said the man cut off his own penis with a bolo. The man, whose name was withheld by authorities, has been declared out of harm, but doctors said they will not be able to restore the dismembered organ. Myrna Villanueva, a psychologist, said the man should be closely monitored by doctors because of his condition. Villanueva said the man may fall into depression once he realizes what has happened to him, and that he may even hurt himself again. "Something is [now] missing, and the very important part that is missing speaks of masculinity, power and strength of a man... It's not normal. The fact nga ang normal na tao is to preserve one's self," she said. She said the man must undergo therapy and counseling for him to recover mentally and emotionally. -- Report from Primy Cane, ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro | | |

| Sunday, January 16, 2011 Benue: Medical doctor held over rape of patient
From Simeon Nwakaudu, Makurdi A MEDICAL doctor, serving with the United Nations (UN) office in Benue State is in police net for allegedly molesting a 17-year old student of Command Secondary School, Makurdi. Activists and human rights lawyers, led by the coordinator of Child Rights Protection Initiative (CPRI), Mrs. Grace Atim, were at the Benue State Police Command Headquarters, where the accused was detained at the weekend, insisting that prosecution must commence immediately. The Guardian learnt that the girl (names withheld) had gone to the Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), Hospital where the doctor had been deployed by the United Nations to conduct tests required by her school when she was molested. According to the girl, the doctor, upon examining her private parts, claimed that she had serious infections that must be flushed out or she would be in critical medical condition. At this point, she said the accused directed her to follow him to the 'flushing' room behind the military hospital. It was at the building behind the hospital, which turned out to be the official residence of the doctor that the student was violated. She said that she reported the rape to her father, a professor with the Benue State University who in turn brought the matter before the NASME commandant. The commandant arrested the doctor and handed him over to the police. Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Mohammed, confirmed the incident. He said after interrogation, the doctor would be prosecuted. In an interview, Mrs. Atim urged the police to prosecute the doctor speedily to serve as deterrent to other medical staff involved in rape cases. She regretted increase in the rape of under-aged girls in the state, noting that CPRI is handling several of such cases. She added that the group has mobilised its lawyers to follow up the case to ensure that the medical doctor does not escape justice.
