142  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Gays sodomized each other till their penises got swollen on: 4-09-2012 05:39 AM
ZIMBABWE: Two Chirumanzu men who spent the night sodomising each other until their penises were swollen have been arrested and hauled before court.

The all nighter came to light after one of the man, a barman exposed his swollen manhood to his mother alleging that he had been sodomised. However, the man, Tinovonga Phiri (29) was exposed when his mother made a report of sodomy against his friend to the police who later investigated the matter.

Police investigations established that Phiri and his friend, Sydney Magumise (35) had spent the night taking turns to sodomise each other and both men's male organs were swollen.

The two gay lovers, were yesterday hauled before Gweru provincial magistrate, Mr Sithembinkosi Msipa facing charges of sodomy. They pleaded guilty and were each fined $500 (or six months in prison). An additional six months imprisonment was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

For the State, Mr Justos Makwena told the court that on Saturday last week, Magumise went to Piki Bar at Chaka business centre for a beer drink. The court heard that when he got to the bar, he found Phiri who was the barman with no clients and the two started drinking beer together.

Mr Makwena said the following day Magumise returned to the bar and drank until late. He said Phiri then offered Magumise accommodation and took him to his bedroom after closing the bar.

The court heard that the two took turns to sodomise each other . Mr Makwena said Magumise later left for home at around 4am. He said Phiri later realised that his manhood was swollen and went to tell his mother what had transpired the previous night.

Phiri's mother went and reported the matter to the police leading Magumise's arrest. Phiri was later arrested by the police after Magumise told them that they took turns to sodomise each other.

If the whole  pedophile priests  scandal that's rocked the Catholic church in recent years wasn't bad enough, now they have a rogue priest on their hands making it worse. In an interview that seems to have been scrubbed from the National Catholic Register, a priest named   Father Benedict Groeschel  [/btried to blame the whole debacle on the teenagers themselves.

In short? Father Benedict said the young victims of pedophile priests have been "seducing" the adult friars. Oh, right, the "he made me do it" excuse. What is this, third grade?

Here's what the 78-year-old Father Groeschel had to say about his fellow friars:

People have this picture in their minds of a person planning to — a psychopath. But that’s not the case. Suppose you have a man having a nervous breakdown, and a youngster comes after him. A lot of the cases, the youngster — 14, 16, 18 — is the seducer.

Seducer? A kid of a grown man?

It gets worse. Groeschel, who has spoken out in the past about how he thinks promiscuous people need to seriously "repent" for their sins, continues to excuse segxwal relationships between priests and children. He went so far as to say that the priests don't deserve jail time because they "didn't know" they were committing a crime.

OK. Let's just say that in some instance a teenager did hit on a grown man. The teenager is still just a kid. The grown man is exactly that: a grown-up. And being a grown-up comes with certain responsibilities in this world. We have to act like one. We have to follow the laws.

Sorry Father, but this ridiculous "the kid made me do it" excuse doesn't fly here. This isn't a parent telling the cop that they were speeding because they had an infant crying in the backseat. We are talking about depraved acts that victimize children.

As an adult, pedophile priests have no way to abdicate their responsibility. No matter who initiates a segxwal relationship between child and adult, it's the job of said adult to nip it in the bud. What's more, as a spiritual advisor, it's a priest's job to make sure any child who would try to "seduce" an adult get immediate help.

Father Groeschel can make all the excuses he wants, but nothing erases the horrors these men have enacted on innocent kids.

Check out Father Groeschel telling promiscuous people to repent ... maybe he should have directed this at some of his fellow friars?

144  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Thugs gang-raped female police officer on: 4-09-2012 05:18 AM
ZIMBABWE: A policewoman based in Harare was allegedly raped by a four-man gang after being robbed and dragged into a bushy area in Graniteside before the assailants took turns to segxwally attack her.

Two of the suspects, Brian Bishau (42) and Knowledge Kudejira (18), were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma, charged with robbery and four counts of rape.

They were remanded in custody to September 14 after prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira opposed bail. Their alleged accomplices, whose identities were not disclosed in court papers, are reported to be still at large. Bishau and Kudejira were arrested early this week after police traced a mobile phone line that was part of the stolen items, ending a 10-month-long search.

According to the State, Bishau continued to use the line long after the segxwal attack on the cop. However, it was not clear in court papers how he was tracked leading to his arrest, but Kudejira allegedly admitted to surrendering the line to his co-accused.

Allegations against the pair are that on October 16 last year, at around 04:45am, they stalked the female cop after she alighted from a vehicle near the Coca-Cola plant, close to the popular Masowe shrine.

It is alleged the quartet grabbed the woman and demanded all her possessions. One of the gang members reportedly grabbed her by the neck and chocked her until she lost her voice.

Further allegations are that the other three men covered the officer’s face with her jersey, lifted her up and carried her to a nearby bushy area, about 50 metres from the Graniteside quarry area.

While at the spot, the four men allegedly robbed the woman of $1,50 and a cellphone with a line before taking turns to segxwally ravish her after which they disappeared.

145  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 43 years-old woman breaks son's virginity.The two had sex for 2 years on: 4-09-2012 05:15 AM
ZIMBABWE: In an incident that smacks of pinnacle of incest, a woman and her 22-year-old son have been arrested on allegations of engaging in segxwal intercourse.

The Bulawayo woman who resides in Entumbane suburb, Ntombikayise Nyathi (43) has reportedly been letting her son, Jonathan Ndebele (22) FEAST on her honey jar for the past two years. Nyathi also hols the title of being responsible for her son's virginity loss.

The incestrous relationship was brought to the fore by one of their relatives who noticed that there was something 'suspicious' about the way the two were behaving towards each other. It is reported that on noticing the suspicious conduct, the relative took up the issue with other family members before a meeting was called to discuss the issue.

Among some of the resolutions was to confront the two and that mission was left to one of the Ndebele's aunts. The woman is reported to have asked Nyathi about their suspicion. However, Nyathi dismissed the allegations and accused the emissary of trying to destroy her family. With the first attempt at getting the answers hitting a brick wall, the emisary was then sent to get answers from Nyathi's son.

On being questioned, the son was elusive with the required information. However, on being told about thw implications of bedding his own mother, the 22-year-old man opened up. He allegedly told his aunt that he had been HAVING SEX WITH HIS MOTHER FOR TWO YEARS and that she is the one who broke his virginity.

After the emisary held consultations with other family members, it was decided that the matter would be reported to the police. Nyathi and her son were subsequently arrested. They appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboea facing incest charges.

The two were remanded in custody to 7 September after failing to pay US$50 bail that each of them had been granted.

146  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Grandpa rapes niece during his late wife's post burial function on: 4-09-2012 05:12 AM
ZIMBABWE: IN African culture, a memorial service is a final moment where people celebrate the life of the departed .

However, in a rape incident which has left Marange villagers calling for justice, a 66-year-old man allegedly raped his 16-year-old niece during his late wife's post burial function.

The incident happened last week in Rambai village under Chief Marange.

The accused, David Daara has since been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Police said Faith Chinogwenyu (50), an aunt to the juvenile (name withheld) visited Daara on August 21 in Marange in the company of the complainant to attend a post-burial function for Daara's late wife.

Upon arrival, Chinogwenyu unraveled the bombshell to the juvenile that the main purpose of their visit was to 'handover the juvenile to Daara as his new wife' since the latter's wife had passed on.
"On August 23, Chinogwenyu persuaded the juvenile to share the same bedroom with Daara.

Daara raped the juvenile twice during that night. He raped her again the following day.

The complainant's uncle who resides in Kadoma received an anonymous call and learnt about the incident. He made a police report and Daara was arrested," said the Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri.

"This is unacceptable. Forcing marriages is a crime and we do not tolerate that. Guardians and parents are supposed to be exemplary and be responsible but we will not tolerate guardians who force juveniles to get into early marriages," he said.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old teenager in Odzi was allegedly raped by her uncle after she had a conflict with the accused's mother.

Insp Chishiri said Hassan Mungora (age not given) raped the teenager once on August 23 at around 4pm after he pretended to mediate and end the scuffle between her and his mother.

He allegedly dragged the teenager into his room on the pretext of saving her before molesting her once.

A police report was made to the police and investigations are underway.

147  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Who can stop Sanusi? on: 4-09-2012 05:03 AM
The proposal by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to carry out a comprehensive review of the structure of the currency, the Naira, has run into firestorm of controversy. Expectedly so, as many Nigerians were taken aback by the plan by the apex bank.

Under the plan expected to take effect early next year, according to the Governor of CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, this would lead to the introduction of N5,000 (Five thousand Naira) as the highest Naira denomination, while existing N5,000, N200, N100 and N50 notes would be redesigned. Should the apex bank have its way, the new currency denominations will have the portraits of three prominent women who reportedly help to fight for the nation’s independence.

These women were Mrs Margaret Ekpo, Mrs Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba, while the N5,000 bill would have the picture of the National Assembly, Sanusi while unveiling the new structure in Abuja on August 23, called the exercise a “Project Cure” that would allow the apex bank to convert current lower denominations of N5, N10, and N20, respectively into coins, which he said would increase the currency structure 11 to 12. Sanusi had assured that the new denominations would be a gradual process to be used simultaneously with the existing series until they are completely phased out.

He also hinted that the exercise was aimed at “upgrading the design of the entire range of the nation’s currency denomination in order to enhance their quality and integrity. The exercise is projected to gulp a hefty N40.3 billion. CBN has stoutly defended the proposal and claimed that the N5,000 was designed to serve high net-worked individuals in the society, and not for all Nigerians.

The proposal was reportedly approved by the Board of the apex bank on November 28, 2011 while President Goodluck Jonathan is said to have endorsed the proposal on December 19, last year. But most Nigerians have stridently opposed the plan.

The Senate has also kicked against the proposal and asked the CBN to stop action on the plan. As so does this newspaper. We find no redeeming grace for this exercise, at least not now. It is a wasteful venture that can only serve the vested interest of few in the society. The argument by the CBN that similar plan has been introduced in other economies does not make it desirable in Nigeria at this point in time.

As hard as the CBN is doing to force this proposal through, we have observed with dismay that the CBN under the leadership if Sanusi has overreached itself many times over in most of its macro-economic policies in the last two years at least. The currency review proposal is one that should not be allowed to stand. It is also disheartening to hear the CBN Governor argue, that the exercise was also necessitated to make it easy for foreigners who do business in Nigeria to handle large volume of cash.

That argument is simply puerile. We ask: Is CBN serving the interest of foreigners or that of our nationals? Whatever benefits that may surface in this plan, if allowed to come into fruition, its drawbacks will hurt the economy and the citizens very hard. Clearly, it will encourage the stealing of public funds and money laundering which the present administration has been labouring to fight. In short, the plan if allowed, will facilitate corruption.

We therefore advise the CBN to focus its attention on polices that will spur economic growth and cushion some of the already negative impact that some of its policies have had on the banking sector and the economy at large. The cash-less policy is one of such flip-flop policies that the banking public are yet to fully embrace.

There is no real economic logic to embark on another policy when the ones already in place are not helping the economic and the well-being of the people. It needs re-stating that the present leadership of CBN should exercise extreme caution and carefully think through a policy to avoid disruptions capable of sending the wrong signals to both the domestic sector and to the international community.

The current plan to introduce higher denomination in our currency regime is ill-digest and should be discontinued forthwith. We recall that the process to re-denominate the currency in 2008/2009 under Sanusi predecessor, Prof Charles Soludo failed because it was not well thought through.

Same with the introduction of Islamic Banking. his is the right time for the National Assembly to carry out the much-awaited review of the CBN 2007 Act to align it with the best international banking practices. CBN must stop using its prerogative to harm the economy and cause untold hardship on the people. As so does this newspaper. We find no redeeming grace for this exercise, at least not now. It is a wasteful venture that can only serve the vested interest of few in the society.

The argument by the CBN that similar plan has been introduced in other economies does not make it desirable in Nigeria at this point in time. 151  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Andy Ubah: I gave $15m Ibori bribe money to Lamorde on: 1-09-2012 02:57 AM
A new twist has been added to the raging controversy over the ownership of a controversial $15 million bribe allegedly given to a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, by ex-governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, in 2006. On Friday (today) Senator Andy Uba (PDP, Anambra East)

denied ownership of the controversial $15m bribe, saying he merely allowed Ibori to use his house to deliver the money to Ribadu.

Uba had been mentioned by a businessman, Chibuike Achigbu, in an affidavit some days ago as the receiver of the money.

Achigbu had claimed that he raised the money as campaign funds to use in financing some Peoples Democratic Party candidates and then passed it to Uba, who in turn gave it to the EFCC.

But Uba, who was a special assistant to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Domestic Affairs from 1999 – 2006, said in a statement by his aide, Mr. Chike Okeke, and made available to elombah.com that he gave the money to the then EFCC Director of Operations, Ibrahim Lamorde.

Lamorde is the current EFCC chairman.

Uba said, “When I was in the Presidency, my house in the Villa was a convenient place for many top people in Nigeria to come.

“Probably, Chief Ibori didn’t want to go to the EFCC office to hand over the money and so decided to use my house.

“All I know about this matter is that Chief James Ibori brought some money to the then EFCC chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

“The details of the transaction were undisclosed to me at the time. The money was handed to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who invited his then Director of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, to fetch it.

“I was never a party to the transaction between Ibori and Ribadu. That my house was used as the venue for the transaction is not in question as an affidavit to that effect has been sworn to by the current EFCC chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, which is probably the point of confusion.

“I hereby state unequivocally that I have no involvement in this matter beyond that stated above.

“So, I’m not involved and will not be involved in this matter. Nobody should drag me into it please.”

The sum, which Ibori allegedly offered the EFCC as bribe to compromise its investigations by the anti-graft agency, has been kept in the strong room of the Central Bank of Nigeria as an unclaimed property since August 2007.

The $15 million bribe saga has been generating lots of controversy since one Chibuike Achigbu, said to be an oil magnate, claimed the money actually belongs to him.

Many Nigerians, including politicians, lawyers, activists and even the Delta State Government, were unanimous on Thursday in challenging erstwhile Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu to open up on the $15 million bribe allegedly given to him by former Delta State Governor, James Ibori.

Recall that in an April 17, 2011 interview with the defunct 234NEXT.com, Mallam Nasir El Rufa'i said Ribadu was Ibori's friend. The former minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  told NEXT how he went to the Dubai Police Headquarters, Interpol section, Economic Crime department, where he spent one and a half hours with James Ibori.

Mr El rufai was one of the few people that visited James Ibori when he was in detention in Dubai.

El rufai was reported as saying that When they were both in government, he "was not very close to James" but "James and Nuhu Ribadu were very close friends and they used to meet in Andy Uba's house and Bukola Saraki's house)."

Following an exparte motion by the EFCC, an Abuja Federal High Court on July 25, 2012, granted an interim order forfeiting the $15m to the Federal Government.

The court, presided by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, ordered that if nobody steps forward to claim the money within 14 days, it would be finally forfeited to the Federal Government when the motion on notice for final forfeiture comes up for hearing on September 17, 2007.

Since the court granted the interim order, some stakeholders in Delta State had been arguing that the money should be handed over to the state, which Ibori governed between 1999 and 2007.

The Delta State Government had claimed that the money rightly belonged to it and that the court should order its return to its treasury.

It made the claim in an application filed by the Attorney-general of Delta State and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Charles Ajuyah (SAN).

In the application dated August 10, Delta State Government averred that the money in dispute was offered by Ibori while he was in office as governor of the state.

In a 35-point affidavit in support of the application, Delta State said that the release of the money would facilitate the current developmental projects in the state.

The affidavit deposed to by one Nikiru Bridget Emakpor, a legal officer in the Ministry of Justice asserted that Ibori was a governor of the state between May 29, 1999 and May 29, 2007, the period the money in dispute was alleged offered by Ibori.

On that basis, the state said that the $15M was the exclusive property of the state and is entitled to collect it as the bona fide owner.

The affidavit averred that any money, asset or property recovered from Ibori rightly belonged to Delta State and that same should be returned to it as it has always maintained its entitlement to any asset recovered from Ibori.

The deponent said that any denial by Ibori in respect of the money cannot affect entitlement of the state to the amount.

The affidavit also indicated that the state did not formally apply for payment of the money in view of the pending appeals to the Supreme Court and the court of Appeal because it did not want to prejudice the appeal cases.

The deponent further claimed that all monies, assets and properties recovered from Mr. Joshua Dariye, former Governor of Plateau State were returned to the Plateau State just like those recovered from Chief Diepreye Alamieyesigha of Bayelsa were returned to Bayelsa State.

It was further contended that there should be no legal basis to treat the case of Delta State any different from others and that it is in the interest of justice that the money should be released to Delta.

Meanwhile Human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo, had called on the federal government to immediately arrest Misters Uba, Ribadu and Chibuike Achigbu and charge them for money laundering, conspiracy and bribery.

In a press statement signed by Mr Keyamo and made available to journalists, the lawyer urged the federal government to arrest Mr Ribadu, interrogate him and charge him to court for conspiracy to pervert justice.

According to him, it is either Mr Ribadu on the one hand is lying that he was offered $15million as bribe or Andy Uba, Misters Ibori and Achigbu on the other were all lying that it was not bribe.

“Arrest Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, interrogate him and charge him to court, if necessary, for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and perjury as regards the proceedings in Asaba when he swore on oath or procured another to swear that he was given a bribe.

’This is because, it is either Ribadu on the one hand is lying that he was offered $15million as bribe or Andy Uba, Ibori and Chibuike Achigbu on the other are all lying that it was not bribe.

’’Both versions cannot be correct and any version that is false amounts to a crime under our laws.

However, Keyamo urged the federal and Delta state governments to immediately withdraw their suits for forfeiture of the bribe money from court.

He asked all other parties to back off from pursuing cases for the possession of the bribe money and said that it was a national embarrassment.

During a protest by the opposition collective “Sauvons Le Togo” (“Let’s Save Togo”) on August 28 in Togo’s capital Lome, several female demonstrators spontaneously dropped their trousers in front of police forces to provoke them, to the great amusement of fellow protesters, bystanders and journalists.

The day before, the collective had called on its female members to join a week-long “sex strike”, designed to motivate more men to join them in their fight against President Faure Gnassingbé. For the moment there is no way of knowing if this appeal to “close their legs”, as local journalists describe it, has been adhered to.

Another demonstration is planned for next Thursday, where this time women have been openly invited to undress.

154  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / IBB threatens to expose Buhari, warns Jonathan on: 31-08-2012 02:06 AM
A few hours after President Goodluck Jonathan and  former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari took a swipe at former  leaders, including Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo and Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, the ex-head of state fired back. He asked Dr. Jonathan to learn to accept criticisms and threatened to expose the “holier-than thou-attitude”

of Gen. Buhari.
The Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in the last general polls, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) had said Monday that the Federal Government, since the administration of Gen Ibrahim Babangida, Obasanjo etc, and till date was responsible for the “high level of corruption and destruction” in the petroleum industry.

But Gen. Babangida, who spoke through Prince Kassim Afegbua, his media adviser, reminded Gen. Buhari that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

He also advised Dr. Jonathan to look elsewhere, not him, if he is blaming past leaders that are criticising him.

Kassim said: “On President Jonathan, there is nothing wrong in criticism if it is constructive and in the interest of the country. Gen. Babangida is one unique former President who does not criticise a sitting President as a matter of courtesy.

“If President Jonathan is blaming past leaders, he should look elsewhere, certainly not IBB.

“On Gen. Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record, we are conversant with Gen. Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou attitude.

“He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister.

“Secondly, he also presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund ( PTF) which records we also have.

155  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Glorious day as Anambra finally becomes oil producing state on: 31-08-2012 01:41 AM
t was indeed a day of glory as Anambra State formally became an oil-producing state.

This followed the commissioning, today, of the oil production facilities of Orient Petroleum Resources Plc at Aguleri by President Goodluck Jonathan.

It was indeed a harvest of good news as Jonathan also commissioned two big projects in the state’s commercial nerve centre, Onitsha – SABMiller Brewery (believed to be the biggest in Africa) and Onitsha RiverPort Complex. Some other projects were equally commissioned by the President during the visit.

It was a day when “everyone who mattered in Anambra and beyond came to witness the historic take-off of industrialisation in Anambra,” as one observer put it.

An elated President Jonathan heaped praises on the state governor, Mr. Peter Obi, for his achievements.

Commenting on the events of the day, Senator Chris Ngige, a former Anambra governor said: “This is a mile stone in the annals of our dear Anambra State because at last our state has officially been confirmed as an oil producing state.”

He congratulated “Orient Petroleum and the entire people of Anambra State for this great achievement,” warning, however, that “the revenue accruing from oil should be put to use judiciously and provide social security for the people of Anambra State and cost communities.”

On his part, former Central Bank of Niger Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, another illustrious son of Anambra, said: “I call it wonderful. It is a great day for Anambra State and the beginning of a long journey towards transformation of our state. Oil can be a blessing and can also be a cause. But let it be only blessing to our dear state. Anambra should utilise such great achievement effectively such that in the next six to eight years it will not need a kobo to run the recurrent expenditure of the state.”

Until today, Nigeria had eight oil-producing states – Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers. Cross River was originally on the list but lost that status following the Supreme Court’s recent judgment that ceded all the 76 oil wells previously belonging to the state to Akwa Ibom.

158  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man in court for molesting girl TWICE during prayer session on: 30-08-2012 06:11 AM

ZIMBABWE: It sounds mind-numbing that a girl was raped during church prayer session.

However it happened when an unashamed 27-year-old man from Node's Rest Farm in Mangwe District turned a praise and worship session into a a caress and rape session. This was after he had reportedly lured the unsuspecting 12-year-old girl into his bedroom ostensibly to praise the author and creator of mankind.

The incident, which had the 12-year-old girl's saintly dreams reportedly scuttled by the man, whose name is withheld to protect the victim, occurred on 12 May this year when she went to Node's Rest Farm where he stays. She had gone FOR A CHURCH SERVICE.

It is reported that upon arrival the girl found the man alone at home and he told her that they should START PRAYING while waiting for the arrival of other church members. Before they went for the prayer session, then man preached saying God had a purpose in her life and during their prayer session angels would visit her and she should not resist the purification they would carry out on her, it is alleged.

The man is reportedly enticed the minor to go with him in his bedroom hut where they prayed. When they were about to conclude the prayer, he is said to have grabbed the girl and threw her on a bed before forcibly removing her panties. He allegedly had segxwal intercourse with the girl albeit without her consent. It is further reported that after abusing the minor, the alleged rapist took a short break before he went for the second round.

After the forced act, the man in a bid to buy the girl's silence, reportedly threatened her with an unspecified course of action. The girl allegedly stayed for some time without telling her ordeal to anyone until she gathered the guts and informed her parents who then made a report to the police.

For the offence, the alleged prayer partner-cum-rapist was arraigned before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Thobekile Mkhosana charged with rape. He was not asked to pleas and was remanded in custody to 31 August.

159  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Buhari laments effects of violence on North’s economy on: 30-08-2012 05:28 AM
FORMER Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has lamented the harm done by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North to commercial activities in the region.

Buhari, who on Monday blamed Nigerian leaders for growing insecurity in the country, regretted that traders from neighbouring countries, who thronged the North for various goods, no longer show up because of the spate of violence in the area.

The Congress for Progressive Change candidate for the 2011 presidential election spoke when he visited Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Wednesday.

He said, “It is on record that over 200 articulated truck vehicles left Kano every day for Maiduguri and in Maiduguri, traders from Cameroon, Chad, Niger Republic would be waiting to receive their goods from Kano.

“Now, that situation has virtually gone because of the security threat in Kano and other northern states.

“How many Nigerians; because of this dastardly act are now forced and pushed into poverty, since it was no longer business as usual in Kano.”

He sympathised with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and the state government over the coordinated bombings and gun attacks in Kano on January 20. Over 180 persons were reportedly killed in the attacks by suspected Boko Haram members.

Buhari said, “I am here to commiserate with them over the bombing incidence that rocked the state, and for the extra security being provided. It is sad and I hope we would get over it as soon as possible.

“I am also here to open the CPC’s new office in the after several legal battles fought by the CPC.”

Kwankwaso said the leaders of the country should come together to find a lasting solution to the security challenges facing the nation.

While commending Buhari for visiting him, in spite of their party differences, the governor advised other politicians to emulate Buhari’s kind of politics.

160  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Reps to summon Sanusi on: 30-08-2012 05:26 AM
The House of Representatives is set to summon the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, for the apex bank’s plan to introduce N5,000 note in the economy.

The House’s decision came amid the controversy the policy had generated since last week when the CBN announced it.

On Wednesday, the House said Nigerians deserved an explanation from the management of the CBN on how the N5,000 note would advance their economic well-being.

The Chairman, House Committee on Banking and Currency, Mr. Chukwudi Onyereri, who spoke with journalists on the policy in Abuja, said the committee had neither been briefed nor had the House been informed of the policy.

He admitted that though the committee was aware of the cash-less policy of the CBN, it had yet to understand how the introduction of the N5,000 note would complement the cash-less policy.

Onyereri said, “The House Committee will invite the Management of the Central Bank in an effort for the committee to know whether the Central Bank is still pursuing the cash-less policy.

“If they are, how does this higher currency note complement the cash-less policy or if it contradicts the cash-less policy, what are the next steps?

“We believe that the Nigerian people deserve to know whether there is a short, mid-term and long-term strategy that will bring any benefits to the system as a result of this introduction.

“The intervention of the House is to ensure that due process is followed and the rule of law adhered to.

“We assure you that we will also be mindful of the effect of this or any other banking policy on the ordinary Nigerian.”

Onyereri added that certain factors would inform the House deliberations.

He said, “Cost of implementing the policy to government, the inflationary trend, devaluation implication and cash-less policy derivative etc.

“Our constituents have already inundated us with reports, petitions and write ups with arguments on both sides of the Policy divide, but we believe that at this time the most effective and prudent response for the Committee would be to get a full briefing on the Policy from the Central Bank after which we will take a position.”
