24  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / CNN Confirms Trump/Buhari Phone Calls, Jonathan’s Aide Sends Message To Buhari Haters on: 13-02-2017 10:10 PM
CNN - Presidententent Donald Trump has been increasingly chatting with other world leaders during his first weeks in office. On Monday he turned his attention to Africa.

Trump spent Monday morning calling two of the continent's most prominent leaders, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and South African President Jacob Zuma, to discuss combating terrorism, trade relations and other issues.

In 2014 nearly 300 girls were kidnapped from a boarding school in Chibok by terror group Boko Haram. Most remain missing, although the terror groupreleased a group of them last October in a deal brokered in part by Nigerian authorities.

Trump also invited President Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date. Buhari, who congratulated Trump on his election, is currently in London on an extended break while he awaits the results of unspecified medical tests.

After his call with Buhari, President Trump also requested and completed a phone call with South Africa's Zuma.

Meanwhile, Reno Omokri who is an aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed the telephone conversation between President Muhammadu Buhari and Donald Trump and commended the move.

Omokri has been a vocal critic of the Buhari administration but in what many may consider a surprising move commended President Buhari for the willingness to foster a US/Nigeria relationship.

Omokri called on people not to hate on the president even if they do not agree with him as that will be satanic

Read what he said below:
I salute both Presidents Donald J. Trump and Muhammadu Buhari for their call which expressed a willingness to boost US/Nigeria relations. More of this.

Don't allow hatred for Muhammadu Buhari affect your love for Nigeria. The Donald J. Trump/Buhari call indeed took place and is good for Nigeria! Give the man his due. When opposition becomes hatred or death wish, it stops being Godly and starts being satanic. I am an opponent not a hater.

President Buhari congratulated Donald Trump on his successful emergence as president of the US in their telephone conversation.

The two presidents spoke on Monday, February 13, after it was announced that Trump would speak with Buhari in London at 3:45pm with another call to President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.

In a statement by Femi Adesina who is the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, he said Trump commended Buhari in the success recorded in the fight against Boko Haram and promised better collaboration between the two countries.

He also said the US will continue to support Nigeria in the fight against terrorism by providing military weapons.

25  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Trump calls Buhari: 4 things the call means for Biafra and Nigerians on: 13-02-2017 07:04 PM
President Donald Trump speaks with President Muhammadu Buhari and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa on February 13, 2017 has generated buzz.

Geoffrey York who is the Africa correspondent for The Globe disclosed this via his twitter page.

President Buhari is in London, UK where he is on extended medical leave after he postponed his return to Nigeria citing medical reasons.

The call which is scheduled for 3:45 pm will have a lot of impact in the as there have been rumours that Buhari is too sick to rule the country. Here are some of the deductions that will be made from the call:

1. Trump's feelings on Biafra

When Donald Trump became president of the United States of America, pro-Biafra supporters staged a rally in his honor in Rivers state, Nigeria on his inauguration. Donald Trump did not however acknowledge the rally or the pro-Biafra agitation.

As the pro-Biafra supporters are against the Buhari government, Donald Trump calling Buhari will be a big blow to their quest fro validation from the US and other countries.

2. He was not shunned

During the Trump inauguration, there were rumours that the new president had shunned Buhari as he was not called when Trump won and was not invited to the inauguration.

However, calling Buhari today will show that Trump actually values the relationship between the two countries.

3. Immigration problems

One of the major problems of the Trump administration has been the immigration ban on some countries and resulting problems with entering the company.

Speaking to Buhari might have a positive effect on Nigerians tplanning to travel to the US and engender positive relations.

4. Nigeria-America trade relations

Under President Obama, bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United States of America were good.

President Donald Trump's call might mean that trade relations will continue and Nigeria and the United States will continue to be close allies.

A white man, David Lynch, has given some superb reasons why he got married to his Nigerian wife.

In an interaction post on a Nigerian video blog called Battabox, the presenter was on the streets of Lagos asking people if they can marry a white person. Quite a lot of people aired their opinions with one lady saying a big no. When asked why, she went on a long story and eventually ended it saying Nigerians abroad only marry whites because of the 'benefits' they can get from the marriage.

Lots of people posted comments on the video Clip, but one particular comment by a Caucasian man caught their eyes. Using the same word “benefits,” as if responding to the lady, he said:

''I am oyibo and I married my Nigerian wife Omonefe Lynch for the benefits. Especially stew, pounded yam, egusi soup and Star beer. Plus she has given me beautiful children, she has inspired me to be successful in my life and she has enriched me with Nigerian culture and the opportunity to travel to Nigeria often and enjoy the beautiful country. I have benefited from the marriage more than she has.''

29  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Breaking News: 2Face Announces the Cancellation Of Planned Protest on: 5-02-2017 12:44 AM
Report just reaching the news media indicate that the planned nationwide march to protest against the government scheduled for Monday, February 6, in Lagos and Abuja has been cancelled.

2baba, who was seen as the 'poster boy' of the protest, shared a video on his Instagram handle, on Saturday, February 4, where he announced the cancellation of the planned protest due to security concerns and public safety consideration.

According to the singer the protest is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with the ideals of the march.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BQGwpwMDM-K/

Recall that 2baba lent his voice to the Enough is Enough group which packaged the protest and several other celebrities had vowed to be present at different venues.

There had been plans by the police in Lagos state to stop the peaceful march against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, but a truce was reached on Friday, February 3, and the security operatives will now serve as back up for the people.

The federal government had also insisted that it was not against the protest as citizens have a right to association.
30  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Protest march: Buhari Replies 2baba As Police Vows To Stop Proposed March on: 1-02-2017 11:06 PM
* Presidency has asked pop star 2baba what his grievance is with Buhari's government
* The presidency's question is coming on the heels of a proposed protest march to be led by 2baba
* The police in Lagos has vowed to stop the proposed march

The Presidency has reacted to the planned nationwide protest against the Buhari-led APC government scheduled to hold on the 6th of February 2017 and spearheaded by pop star and African Queen crooner, Innocent Idibia, popularly called, 2face.

The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Electronic Media, Lauretta Onochie has, Tuesday, called on the pop star to come on national TV to state his “beef with Pres. Buhari” instead of going on national newspapers to make his grievances known.

According to her: “Nigerians would like 2Baba to explain the policies that he’s not happy with on National LIVE TV, as well as proffer alternative economic policies that would better serve all Nigerians. Not on newspapers that could have been written by anyone.”

However, in what seems like a response to the Presidency, 2face, in a statement he made available to newsmen on Tuesday, said that “the people have hoped for a better Nigeria since 1999 but things are not getting any better for the majority. We are still where we are – poor and desperate.

I will no longer be quiet” Thanking Enough is Enough, the 2Face Foundation, his fellow artistes and Nigerians fully in support of the protest the star allayed the fear of some that he might have been influenced by some political machinations, saying the protest is not a platform for politician or labour unions to manipulate.

“It is not a platform for politicians of any party to manipulate. I know you will still spin it but for one second leave your battles aside and just listen to people without trying to score cheap political points against one another. It is not a point scoring exercise.

It is certainly not personal. It is not an organized labour platform. With all due respect to our comrades who have done much for Nigeria, this march is for the unrepresented. It is not a ‘my religion or tribe is better than yours’ matter.

All our blood is red. I, Innocent Idibia, am a living example of a Nigerian who owes their success to Nigerians of every tribe and religion. None ask what religion or tribe I am before supporting me. I am grateful.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni on Wednesday said he will not allow the planned protest against the Federal Government slated for February 5 to hold in the state.

Popular musician, TuFace Idibia who joined the call for protest by some concerned Nigerians over the state of the nation, had used his social media platforms to appeal to his supporters to join the movement.

But Owoseni, who had earlier stated that there was no official request from the protesters notifying security agencies of their plan, said Wednesday that intelligence report indicates that criminals might hijack the process.

According to the police chief, the command wasn’t ready for that kind of demonstration and as such would not allow it to hold.

He said no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public, who may wish to go about their Lawful duty.

Owoseni said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest. And as such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface do not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.”

At a press conference held earlier in the week, Owoseni said: “The Civil Society had said that they do not need police permission to carry out any peaceful protest, but they should also be aware that there might be those who share an opposing view. This set of persons may want to disrupt the peaceful demonstration and would want to attack demonstrators.

“This is why we advise individuals or group of persons who may wish to embark on civil demonstration to inform the police so that adequate security arrangement would be provided.”

An unnamed Saudi Arabia prince hit the headlines across the world yesterday following an ostentatious act that has shocked people.

Reddit user, Lensoo shared the above photo a friend of his took on the plane that shows the 'royal hawks enjoying the luxury of flying in positions occupied originally by human beings.

One commenter on that thread on Reddit explained the odd sight: "For those wondering, this is probably one of the gulf states royal families going hunting," they said. "Stuff like this is common to a lesser degree in the Gulf on regular flights. If you fly Etihad or Emirates or Qatar enough you will eventually see someone flying in first class with a falcon sitting next to them."

In the United Arab Emirates, hawks could have their own passports. There are also laws against discrimination towards falcons. "So if a falconer comes into Starbucks and requests a chair for his falcon," that commenter explained, "you have to give it to him and let the falcon sit there in the store."
