Court jails Kapiri man 5 years for sex with goat

   
KAPIRI Mposhi magistrate Estone Kafunyi has sentenced a 27-year-old man to five years imprisonment with hard labour for having sex with a pregnant goat.

Before court on Tuesday was Amon Chisenga of Kabati village in Lunchu B in chief Mukonchi’s area. Particulars before court were that on July 4, 2010 around 03:00 hours, Chisenga did have carnal knowledge on a female goat contrary to Section 155 b of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Chisenga pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read for him. The state called witnesses Febby Kunda and John Kunda who were not challenged by Chisenga during cross examination, other than one question to Febby which the court said was only confirmation that the accused now convict had sex with the pregnant goat.

Both prosecution witnesses told the court that they found Chisenga in a kraal having sex with a goat around 03:00 hours and that it was not the first time that they found Chisenga having sex with a goat in their kraal. The duo said Chisenga was found in a similar situation but he had tendered an apology and, subsequently, promised never to have sex with an animal again. The court heard that the pregnant goat later died before it could be ferried to Kapiri Mposhi police station.

And detective constable Charles Bwalya, who happened to be the arresting officer, told court that during his investigations, he found that the female goat had a swollen vulva. He added that after obtaining a disposal letter from the subordinate court, the goat was buried at Kapiri Mposhi police station premises in a ditch dug by Chisenga himself. In mitigation, Chisenga said he had nothing to say. Passing judgment, magistrate Kafunyi observed that by having sex with an animal, Chisenga was being inhuman.

“The offence you committed is very inhuman. It is a serious offence and attracts a 14-year custodial sentence,” said magistrate Kafunyi. “Surely, even in villages there are a lot of unmarried women that you could have approached. But being a first offender, you will serve five years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date of your arrest.�

A 20-year-old baker, who allegedly stabbed his colleague to death with a knife explained how he committed the crime. The tragedy occurred at Ogba area of Lagos metropolis. The suspect, Kelly Charles a native of Akwa Ibom State claimed his colleague Erinola Akinyemi cheated him.

Giving an account of the incident, he said: “It started about two weeks ago, when Akinyemi started paying me N1, 700, weekly allowance, instead of the usual N2,000. So, I lost N600. But I did not know that he was responsible, as he kept lying to me that it was my supervisor who was shortchanging me.”

He claimed he became angry with Akinyemi, who was encouraging him to continue on the job and begged him to forgive his supervisor. According to him, when he eventually found out that the victim was the one shortchanging him, he decided to be obstinate to him to protest his alleged misbehaviour.

He said on that fateful day, Akinyemi sent him on an errand to assist him in buying sachet water and he refused.
He said the deceased did not know he had found out that he was the one cheating him. “He started giving orders that I must obey him but I maintained my stance and he slapped me.” He claimed that as Akinyemi was slapping him, he retaliated and a fight ensued. “He held me down and I was struggling to escape from him. I had access to a kitchen knife which I used to stab him. I stabbed him in the stomach and his intestine gushed out.”

The suspect, who broke down in tears exclaimed: “I did not mean to kill him. I stabbed him in self-defence, I did not know that he was going to die.” Charles, who lamented in his predicament, disclosed that he was sleeping in an abandoned bus when he came to Lagos newly before somebody introduced him to the bakery where he works. “It is the handiwork of the devil. It has succeeded in ruining my life, but God is not asleep. I know He knows I did not mean to kill a fellow human being,” Charles moaned.

He appealed to the police and the bereaved family to forgive him. “Forgive me because I did not know that he would die. I was only registering my annoyance over his shortchanging me to the tune of N600.” When asked if he was not ashamed of killing his colleague for a paltry sum of N600, he said: “It is a shame, a big one indeed, I could not control myself because I am not a god, but a human being.”

The Lagos State command’s spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, a Superintendent, said the suspect would be charged to court soon.

THE average couple has sex 104 times before getting pregnant, according to a British survey published today.
Women took six months on average to conceive their first child, with couples having sex around four times a week while they were trying.

The study of more than 3000 mothers, commissioned by UK family planning company First Response, also found that two-thirds of women got pregnant more quickly than they expected.

One in 10 women were so eager to conceive they even called their partner home from work to have sex while they were ovulating, it said.

"Having sex 104 times before falling pregnant does sound rather a lot, but as they say, practice makes perfect. Trying for a baby is a very exciting time for a couple, and many try to have sex at every opportunity in order to get pregnant," said First Response spokesman Dr. Mike Smith.
