41  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / America monster Boy (16) Kills Parents Because They Seized His IPhone on: 30-05-2014 01:36 PM
16 year old Vincent Parker pleaded guilty yesterday to murdering his parents Carol and Wayne Parker last December. The boy says that there was no specific fight that prompted the brutal MURDER.

The sadistic killer told authorities, ‘I just remember getting mad,’ Parker told the court. ‘It’s all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.’
The story gets worse. Vincent was an only child being raised by his hard working parents Carol, 57, and father Wayne, 55, in their Norfolk, Virginia home. They did everything right – they lived in a good neighborhood, and helped Vincent become an honor roll student.

But he boy snapped one day . . . and turned into a moster. On December 19, 2013 Vincent left school early while his dad was still at work. He showed up at the family home and surprised his mother – by dousing her in pepper spray.
While the 57 year old woman was blinded and unable to defend herself, Vincent stabbed his mother in the eye, and then beat her with a crowbar and metal baseball bat ‘until she stopped breathing’. A medical examiner noted 25 separate smashes and stabs on Mrs Parker’s neck, face and head.

The animal then waited patiently over his dead mother’s body until his father came in the house. He surprised his dad and hit him in the back of the head with a crowbar, smashing his skull. He then stabbed his father multiple times.

Luckily his father didn’t die from the mortal wounds. He managed to call 9-1-1 and tell them what happened. When the ambulance arrived Carol had already died. Wayne survived a short time but died in the hospital.

Yesterday Vincent plead guilty to two counts of second degree murder. A psychological evaluation found him to be both 100% sane and intelligent. He was charged as an adult and will be sentenced in September.
42  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Lawyers kick against plan to tax churches, mosques on: 30-05-2014 01:28 PM
Some prominent lawyers in Lagos, yesterday kicked against plan to tax religious organisations in the country, as being recommended by the ongoing national conference.Delegates at the conference had on Wednesday voted in support of taxing both churches and mosques.

The lawyers told reporters that the move by the conference was a clear misplacement of priorities.

A human rights lawyer, Mr Bamidele Aturu, said the delegates should focus on important issues that would foster the unity and development of Nigeria.

Aturu said it was the duty of the National Assembly to promulgate such laws, adding that the non-payment of taxes by religious organisations was not an issue in Nigeria.

“For me, it is a misplacement of their priorities and they are only going to create more controversies which may make their report unacceptable at the end of the day,” he said.

Another lawyer, Mr Wale Ogunade, said the conference should address issues such as unemployment, poverty, corruption and national unity.

Ogunade said: “This is just a diversion because there are more pressing issues. The government has not exhausted the money being generated from oil and other mineral resources.

“The delegates should be concerned with how to make the government accountable to Nigerians on how our resources are being spent. By doing this, many Nigerians, including churches and mosques, will voluntarily start paying their taxes”.

On his part, Mr Uche Edeh, a Lagos-based lawyer, said taxing religious organisations could lead to crisis because it would be difficult to enforce.

Mr Adebamigbe Omole, a former Chairman of Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, however, supported the recommendation of the conference, saying. “I am in total support because some of the religious centres have been commercialised.

There are three different Dubais, all swirling around each other. There are the expats, there are the Emiratis, headed by Sheikh Mohammed; and then there is the foreign underclass who built the city, and are trapped here. They are hidden in plain view. You see them everywhere, in dirt-caked blue uniforms, being shouted at by their superiors, like a chain gang – but you are trained not to look. It is like a mantra: the Sheikh built the city. The Sheikh built the city. Workers? What workers?
Every evening, the hundreds of thousands of young men who build Dubai are bussed from their sites to a vast concrete wasteland an hour out of town, where they are quarantined away. Until a few years ago they were shuttled back and forth on cattle trucks, but the expats complained this was unsightly, so now they are shunted on small metal buses that function like greenhouses in the desert heat. They sweat like sponges being slowly wrung out.

47  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Northern Nigeria a failed region, marked by hypocrisy- Arewa youths on: 30-05-2014 08:14 AM
Northern youths have described that part of Nigeria as a failed region, heading for extinction but characterised by a high level of hypocrisy and bad leadership. The youths, who met under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum in Kaduna on Wednesday to review the state of the nation as part of the activities marking the 2014 Democracy Day, noted with dismay that majority of the northern people had been subjected to constant fear arising from persistent killings and tension.

The youths noted with disappointment that apart from a few of the 19 northern states, the rest were marked by low quality and purposeful governance with an astronomical rise in the embezzlement of public funds by their leaders.

According to a communiqué, which was signed by the President of the AYF, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, and made available to Vanguard on Thursday, the failure of governance in most parts of the region has led to the collapse of the education and health sectors with insecurity holding the entire region to ransom.

They regretted that as a result of rising insecurity, economic activities that once thrived in their local communities had since collapsed, while the level of hatred and animosity between Northern Christians and Muslims had risen.

They also noted that if the security threat to farmers in the area was not immediately arrested, there would be serious food security crisis in the region in no distant time and asked the government to halt what they called the ‘manipulation of major religions in the country ahead of the 2015 election’ instead of working for the interest of the people.

As a way out of the crisis facing the region, AYF suggested that both the Federal and Northern state governments must stop the politicisation of insurgency and pay more serious attention to the problems facing the region to prevent it from failing.

The youths noted: “We insist that the manipulation of religion for political and economic interests by elites to the detriment of our teeming populace must stop forthwith, sincerity, justice and sensitivity to the plights of Northerners irrespective of their differences must be given priority attention by all levels of government.

“We also demand that the ongoing bloodshed must be stopped while the governments must sincerely explore all its constitutional avenues with a view to restoring law and order in all part of the country to bring about peace and development,” AYF said.
48  Forum / Relationships & Romance / I Did An Abortion For The Man My Sister Is About To Marry, Should I Tell, Please on: 28-05-2014 01:25 PM
My name is Amanda,
A 30-year old single lady working in a bank in one of the Nigeria’s famous cities. About three years ago, I had a brief affair with a young and good-looking man. He is 4years older than me and works in an oil company. We actually met while I was in the marketing department of my organization.

Before long, we started seeing each other and even spent nights at each other’s place. I had great affection for him and he was a real gentleman with nice qualities. However, the relationship lasted only five months and it ended after I carried out an abortion because according to him, he had no plans to settle down at that point. I felt used, dumped and couldn’t bear the pain any longer so I broke up with him.

After my younger sister completed her National Youth Service last year, she travelled out of the country for her master’s Programme in the United Kingdom, same country my ex was transferred to from Lagos the same year we broke up. He had informed me about the promotion and I wished him well. We keep in touch once in a while, though no strings attached.

The shocker ; My sister has always been telling me so many sweet things about her new found boyfriend and that she can’t wait for me to meet him. She obviously was in love….and I was very happy for her because just like me, she had gone through so many heartbreaks.

Few months later, she sent picture of herself and a guy together at a friend’s birthday party. At first, I thought my eyes were deceiving me ; it was my ex ! I recognized him the moment I saw his face. As if that was not enough, that same night, my sister called and gave me another shocker of my life ! She said my ex has proposed and they are planning to get married later this year.

Honestly, ever since I heard this news, I have been very uncomfortable. I called my ex immediately and told him we needed to talk. I expressed my fear and reservation of him courting my sibling considering our past. He said he already knows we are related and that he found out after several conversations with my sister and he even saw a picture of us together.

He said he hasn’t said anything yet and that we should keep sealed lips because he’s not ready to lose my sister and she’s the woman he’s prepared to spend the rest of his life with. And for the fact that our relationship was long dead and buried. I felt terrible, but then I still have to be happy for my sister. I accepted his view but I have been miserable. I really need to get this off my chest but at the same time, I don’t want to hurt my kid sister. I am mad at myself, I am mad at my life.Dear readers, what do I do please?
49  Forum / Relationships & Romance / African Women Abroad Seriously Seeking Husbands on: 28-05-2014 01:13 PM
Why are many African women abroad now seriously looking for husbands or serious partners? Why are they single in the first place? What kind of men are they looking for? How do they feel being single? Etc. To understand and unlock these and other puzzling questions, Emmanuel Sarpong Owusu-Ansah, a lecturer and an investigative journalist in London, conducted a survey on 244 African women, married and unmarried, aged between 21 and 40 in England, UK.

Quite disappointingly, only 150 out of the 244 women approached did respond to the initial questions. 25 out of the 150 initial respondents, then willingly and confidently provided profound information on single African women abroad.

Of the 25 women who agreed to be intensively interviewed, 15 were single, 5 were in serious relationships, and 5 were married. They were from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The term ‘single’ or ‘unattached’ as the respondents explain, does not necessarily mean living without sex. It only refers to people who are not married or who do not have “serious” partners.

Important Statistics 92(approximately 61%) out of the 150 respondents described themselves as single or unattached; 31 (representing 21%)were in serious relationships, and only 27 (forming 18%) were married.

Those in the Prime Years group (21-25, 22%), Vital Years group (26-30, 27%), Borderline group (31-35, 32%), and the Danger Zone group (36-40, 19%). Note, that because of the small sample size, the fallacy of generalization may be committed if these statistics or findings are viewed as a perfect representation of the real situation in England or the West.

The Reasons so Many African Women Abroad are Single

Perceived shortage of decent men in the West: Almost all the women interviewed shared the opinion that it is quite uncommon to come across single men with good character these days. Many African men also prefer women who have legal status that they can benefit from; hence, they tend to get married to westerners rather than Black African immigrants. The words of a respondent say it all: ‘The truth of the matter is, we do not have a very wide selection of African men to choose from as we (the single women) outnumber them (the single men) in this country. Disappointingly, the few that are available tend to date and marry people of other races usually to get legal status.’ Again due to lack of trust for western-based African women who are generally perceived to be arrogant, argumentative, disrespectful, non-submissive and dishonest or unfaithful, other men go to look for women partners in their various home countries.

Tribalism/Ethnocentrism: Some African families have “blacklisted” certain tribes and/or countries, and would just not tolerate the idea of their children getting married to someone from these “blacklisted” societies. It has in fact become an abomination in many African countries for people from certain “rival” tribes to get married. Sadly, beautiful young women are missing the opportunity to get married to men they love, all in the name of tradition or tribal hatred. As one Ghanaian respondent mentioned: ‘There is this guy who loves me so much …. I love him too, but I know my parents will be gutted and disappointed in me if I tell them that he is from … (country withheld)… I’m just scared.’

Spending Prime years pursuing educational and Career goals: It might sound quite harsh, but one revelation made is that the best moment for most women to get suitable partners or husbands is when they are in their Prime. Hence, the need for them to capitalize on their young age, looks, and fertility to get the kind of man that they want. For religious, academic or educational, as well as career or occupational reasons some young women dedicate less time to socializing and searching for that “decent man.” By the time they realize the need to have families, age had already caught up with them; and as looks or beauty and fertility commonly decrease with age, they end up in a position where attracting men becomes a bit more difficult.

Unnecessary church rules/codes: Many churches or religious denominations do not allow their members, especially the women to marry outside the church. Attempts by female members of these faiths to marry men of other denominations are usually frustrated by their church leaders. ‘I became a member of my church when I was only 20 years, now I’m in my late 20s, and none of the men in the church has ever asked me out or shown any interest in me. Yet, my pastor wouldn’t welcome any of the many guys that have expressed genuine interest, just because they are not members of our church’, a quite attractive respondent lamented. Other religious denominations also do not allow their members, chiefly women to date a man before marriage for fear that they may be tempted to engage in pre-marital sex – which is viewed as a mortal sin by almost all Christian faiths and many other religions.

Misconception about educated African women: The difficulty in finding husbands is clearly being experienced by highly educated women as well. Three of the ‘unattached’ interviewees had obtained their MA degrees yet they, to quote one of them, ‘are still struggling to get Mr. Right.’ This revelation in a way suggests that women with credentials or academic accolades do not necessarily attract men or enjoy some advantage in terms of getting husbands. This is certainly not to discourage female education or scare women who aspire to reach the apogee of the academic ladder. What has been pointed out is that ladies who achieve higher academic successes are often erroneously viewed by many men as domineering, women who have less respect for their husbands and are thus hard to get along with. Many highly educated African women have also been accused of ignoring interested men whose educational qualifications are below theirs; hence their singleness.

The Desire to marry wealthy men or men with legal status: It has been established that many African women only look for men who are rich and/or have legal status. Consequently, they ignore those who are genuinely in love with them but are not very financially sound or do not have strong legal status. In the end, they are taken for a ride by the so-called wealthy dudes and men with legal documents, and thus return to what Nigerians call “square one” (where they were before – singleness). It has been observed that most African women, no matter how financially sound they are, seem to prefer men with good jobs and good salary to those doing menial jobs or struggling to get jobs, even though the latter might demonstrate more traces of genuine love than the former.

Unwillingness on the part of some men to be burdened with financial responsibilities: Due to the economic downturn in many western countries, many men are scared of the usually huge financial cost of marriage and/or financial responsibilities associated with marriage. The panic is made even worse by the traditional African notion that it is the responsibility of the man to handle all marriage and household expenses, even when it is clear that the woman’s job or income is much better than the man’s.

Poor choices (Ignoring or paying less attention to the right men): Some African women seem to focus on those men who would not give them the chance or the treatment they want and deserve. They spend their Prime years knowingly hanging out with thuggish types of guys or men with no substance (aimless), probably because of the guys’ good looks or the size of their wallets, only to be thrown away like dross after their precious time had been wasted. A respondent honestly narrated how she mistreated and sacrificed an apparently more serious and purposeful man for a handsome but less committed guy only to be thrown overboard less than a year into their relationship. When she realized her mistakes and decided to go back for the one she dejected and whose numerous marriage proposals she had initially turned down, he was no longer available (he was someone else’s darling). Some of the African women who make their way to the West deliberately fail to get in touch with their boyfriends at home thinking that they would get someone with legal documents to marry. By the time they become aware of their mistakes, it is usually too late.

Other past mistakes: Other mistakes made in the past by some women such as, waywardness, going out with married men, being impregnated by some reckless man who does not even accept responsibility, and single-motherhood, contribute to their difficulty in getting husbands. It may sound rude but the truth is that most men prefer women with no child to those with one or more.

Desire to remain single: It must however be emphasized that not all single African women abroad are interested in marriage or serious relationships; some prefer and seem to be very happy to be single. The words of one Nigerian respondent are noteworthy: ‘I wouldn’t lie to you, I hate marriage. If marriage is so great, why do most marriages end in divorce within a couple of years if not months?’ Many single people think they do have a meaningful love relationship in their life, and that for them, is enough.

Why Many African Women are now Desperately Looking for Partners

It has been established that the single women who are now seriously hunting for partners or husbands are mainly those who fall within the second and third groups (Vital Years and Borderline respectively), as well as those with children (irrespective of age). A number of reasons have been given for the alarming rate at which unattached African women abroad are desperately looking for partners. The following are believed to be some of the most dominant ones:

Old age catching up with them: For numerous reasons some of which are mentioned above e.g. spending years pursuing educational and career goals, hanging out with the wrong guys, etc.), many women are not able to marry or get serious partners in their Prime years. By the time they recognize their errors and the need to settle down to start a family, age is either catching up with them or has already caught up with them. To avoid carrying their singleness into the Danger Zone, or avoid being less fertile and having difficulty in bringing forth children, they try all possible but not always advisable means to get husbands or serious partners.

Pressure from family: In almost all if not all African societies, the institution of marriage is viewed as something that brings respect and honor not only to the couple but also their families (both nuclear and extended). For this reason, when after a certain age, e.g. 26+, a woman is still unmarried, her family particularly parents, start pilling pressure on her to get a husband and to give them (the parents) grandchildren. Note, that due to the religious nature of many Africans, pregnancy and/or giving birth out of wedlock, is not only seen as a disgrace to a woman’s entire family, but also a sin against God or the gods.

Security, loneliness and/or the sense of non-fulfillment: The need for some form of security and stable support, financially, materially, mentally or emotionally also motivates the determination of many women to rush to get husbands. However, there are some women, who have almost everything they need in life in abundance, but do not feel that sense of fulfillment without marriage. For them, a woman’s life without a husband or serious partner is nothing but an unfulfilled life.

Fulfilling a New Year Resolution: Before the commencement of a New Year, people make what is generally referred to as New Year Resolution. One of the key resolutions of most single women is to get married by the end of the year. Hunting for men is thus one way of making sure that their New Year resolution comes to pass.

Peers getting married: Some unattached African women abroad are so worried and disturbed about their inability to lay hands on someone they can call husband that, they wish they had never come to the western world. The statement of a Zambian respondent speaks loads: ‘I learn most of my old-time friends and former class mates in my country are happily married with kids, but look at me still struggling to get a good relationship let alone marriage’.

Conclusion: It is believed that single African women who fall within the Borderline and Danger Zone groups, and those with children are much more likely to be taken advantage of and segxwally abused or exploited by selfish and lustful men as they are easily wooed and convinced because of their situation. In other words, they easily give in to false marriage promises or propositions of deceptive selfish and promiscuous men.

It is quite obvious that very soon more and more unattached African women in the West particularly those in England will be making their way to their various home countries to look for partners and husbands. However, the question is not whether or not the men in Africa are ready for the western-based ladies; it is rather whether or not the single ladies back home in Africa will watch the western-based ladies “scramble” for “their men” without a fight.
50  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Cameroon sends 1,000 troops to Nigerian border on: 28-05-2014 01:08 PM
Cameroon has deployed some 1,000 troops and armoured vehicles to its border region with Nigeria as it steps up its military presence to counter a rising threat from Boko Haram Islamist militants, a defence ministry spokesman said, yesterday.

Boko Haram, which has outraged international opinion with the abduction of some 200 schoolgirls in northern Nigeria seven weeks ago, has also carried out several attacks and kidnappings in northern Cameroon. Lieutenant Colonel Didier Badjeck said about 1,000 Special Forces of Cameroon’s rapid intervention brigade (BIR) left the capital on Monday. Several new generation armoured vehicles were deployed three days earlier, he said.

“Their mission will be to carry out reconnaissance and be ready to respond with enough fire power,” Badjeck said by telephone from Yaounde, adding, “They are patrolling in northern region at the moment.” Badjeck said the deployment was part of Cameroon’s effort to increase its military presence in the border region. It had already deployed an additional 700 troops under a joint regional effort to fight Boko Haram, announced in March.

Nigeria’s military said, Monday, it knew the whereabouts of the more than 200 abducted schoolgirls, but it ruled out using force to rescue them.
51  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Anambra kidnap gang leader arrested…Destroys two of His Mansions on: 28-05-2014 08:57 AM
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano’s determination to rid the state of criminals has yielded result, as a suspected kidnap gang leader, Okechukwu Nnaegbo, has been nabbed aboard a South African Airways flight at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.Nnaegbo, who has confessed to being the shadowy figure behind the recent high-profile kidnap cases in the state, was on his way to South Africa to evade the onslaught against criminals, when a team of detectives from the Special Anti-robbery Squad in Anambra, in collaboration with their Lagos State counterparts, pounced on him inside the aircraft.

Nnaegbo, who hails from Nri in Anaocha Local Government, is believed to be the leader of a gang of armed robbers and kidnappers, who made life miserable for Ndi Anambra until the recent launch of “Operation Kpochapu”, a special anti-crime task force, by the Obiano administration.

Commissioner of Police Usman A. Gwary said the suspect was aboard the Johannesburg-bound plane when he was arrested by his men with the assistance of airport security operatives.

Nnaegbo’s arrest climaxed a week of successful counter-offensive against kidnappers in Anambra, which saw members of the “Operation Kpochapu” demolishing two buildings that belonged to suspected kidnappers.

One of the buildings belonged to Nonso Mgbe, a 25-year-old suspected kidnapper from Azia village in Ihiala Local Government, who is believed to have been responsible for the death of a former commander of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the state police command. He was also said to have been responsible for other high-profile kidnap cases.

As Mgbe’s storey building was being demolished, villagers shook their heads.

A nine-bedroom bungalow belonging to another suspected kidnapper, Okechukwu Amasiatu of Ezinifite in Nnewi South Local Government, was also demolished by  “Operation Kpochapu”.

He was suspected to have been behind the kidnap of highly-placed indigenes. He was also reported to have been the mastermind of the killing of five policemen at Emeka Offor junction in Oraifite, Nnewi.

Sources at Ezinifite said Amasiatu lived in Lagos but chose his village and the neighbouring towns and villages as targets to carry out his criminal activities. They said his elder brother, Chimaobi, was shot by the police in a shootout, following a tip-off on the activities of his gang.

Obiano said his administration was determined to rescue Anambra from criminals.

The governor used the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s effort to discourage youths from committing crimes, saying a comprehensive databank was being compiled to give them jobs.

He advised youths to participate in the exercise organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Super Eagles World Cup-bound coach Stephen Keshi has claimed he is wanted by at least six other countries.Keshi’s future after the World Cup is uncertain, but the former international skipper said he is focused on leading Nigeria to a successful campaign at Brazil 2014.

“Six countries are calling on me, so Nigeria will not be the last country for me to coach,” claimed ‘Big Boss’ Keshi.

Keshi, who guided the Super Eagles to a third Africa Cup of Nations last year and also qualified the country to a fifth World Cup, has been rumoured to have interested South Africa.

The 52-year-old coach has previously handled Togo and Mali.

He has endured a frosty relationship with his employers the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in his third-year in charge of the country’s team.

He quit his post moments after he led Nigeria to win the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, citing differences with the NFF leadership.

He would later rescind his decision after the intervention of top government officials.

He was also at the heart of a national debate that raged over whether he would need additional assistance at the World Cup in Brazil.

However, he has most recently maintained he has enjoyed a good working relationship with the football federation.

He has also said he would be willing to continue as Nigeria coach “if the terms are right”.

Nigeria have featured in four World Cups and after each of these campaigns they have changed coaches.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State chapter, on Monday failed to embark on a protest to halt the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from passing the N100m bill, Governor Godswill Akpabio presented to the House for approval. The NLC state chairman, Mr. Unyime Usoro, who told our correspondent on Sunday that the labour union would embark on a protest to dissuade the House from passing the outrageous bill, turned numb as the House after moving a motion for the bill to be read the third time, passed it into law.

The executive bill which had earlier passed the first and second reading was presented for deliberations at the committee of the whole at plenary.

The bill as passed sought a pension for life at a rate equivalent to the salary of the incumbent governor to former governors and ex-deputy governors.
The law also provided for the former governor a provision for funds to employ a cook, chauffeurs and security guards at a sum not exceeding N5m per month and N2.5m for the deputy.

According to the bill as passed, the former governor would also be entitled to a free medical services for his person and spouse at a sum not exceeding N100m per annum and N50m for former deputy governor.

The bill also sought to provide for the former governor a befitting accommodation not below a five-bed room maisonette in either Abuja or Akwa Ibom for governor.

The bill also provided for yearly accommodation allowance of 300 per cent of annual basic salary for the deputy governor of Akwa Ibom.

The former governor would also receive a severance gratuity of 300 per cent of annual basic salary as of the time the former leaves office among other things.

After heated debate by members, the deputy leader

Dr. Ekaete Okon (PDP), moved a motion for the bill to be read the third time and passed into law.

The motion was seconded by Mr. Aniekan Akpan, PDP member representing Ukanafun state constituency.

The Speaker, Mr. Samuel Ikon, directed the clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, to forward a clean copy of the bill to the governor for assent.

However, the eligibility aspect of the bill, took the House over three hours to deliberate upon.
54  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Why Niger Delta may be wiped out soon, Edwin Clark warns on: 27-05-2014 12:48 PM

IJAW leader and a delegate at the ongoing national conference, Chief Edwin Clark, has raised the alarm over possible extinction of the Niger Delta region if something urgent is not done to address the environmental degradation of the region.

He spoke in Abuja during the  debate on the report of the committee on environment on Monday.

This is even as a Federal Government’s delegate to the national conference, Annkio Briggs, said the cleanup of the Niger-Delta region would require $1trillion.

Chief Clark had spoken strongly about the untold hardship of  the people living along the coastlines, while he further warned that something holistic was needed in order to minimise the biting effects of environmental degradation in the region.

He took delegates through the memory lane and concluding that there was nothing new in the report of the conference committee on environment.

He said the United Nations had, in 2011, submitted a report to the Federal Government, where it stated that it would take 30 years to clean up the oil spills in the Niger Delta.

Clark said the report recommended that $20 billion was needed to clean up the mess, lamenting that it took the Federal Government two years to set up a committee to consider the report.

The elder-statesman said it was not enough to come up with reports, adding that political will power was needed in order to implement their outcomes.

Clark further warned that soon, the region might cease to exist.

He told delegates to look beyond what the country got from the region, but to examine the effect the degradation oil exploration had caused in the region.

“Our environment has been polluted. We sit on top of water in the Niger Delta, yet we do not have water. When I was small, we used to put a calabash outside and fishes would jump in. Now, my people eat ice fish. There are no more farmlands, no fruits. We have lost everything in the Niger Delta,” he said.

Briggs, in her contribution, called on the Federal Government to commence the process of cleanup of the Niger-Delta with initial budget of $1 trillion.

She noted that what was happening in Niger Delta was destruction caused by environmental pollution and degradation as a result of gas flaring and oil spillage.

Chairman of the conference, Idris Kutigi, however, diffused the controversy that would have cropped up over comments on resource control as contained in the report.

Following remarks by Briggs that she supported the recommendation for resource control, a delegate from the North, Haruna Yerima, raised a point of order for Kutigi to allow the chairman of the committee on environment define what the committee meant by resource democracy.

But Kutigi, sensing that the discussion would generate trouble, asked Haruna Yerima to meet the committee chairman after the plenary for more explanation.

A delegate from Benue State, Dr Magdalene Dura, supported the recommendation for the creation of Environmental Restoration Agency to take care of the serious impact of environmental degradation in the country.

Meanwhile, the national conference has set  July  7 to 10 for the consideration of the draft report, according to the modified work-plan of the conference.

This followed the approval by the Federal Government for an extension of the ongoing national conference by four weeks.

The work-plan made available to delegates on Monday and obtained by the Nigerian Tribune, indicated that the conference would be winded up on July 17.

Accordingly, the drafting of the report would be done in one week from June 27 to July 4.
55  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / How a Nigerian girl was murdered in South Africa by her Zimbabwean Lover! on: 27-05-2014 12:46 PM

The pretty girl above, Naizi, studying in South Africa, was murdered by her Zimbabwean boyfriend  on Saturday morning.

According to her friends who sent this story;

“She has been dating the Zimbabwean boy for a while but she got tired because it was an abusive relationship, he would hit her at any slightest provocation and she loved him still.
She knew he was bad for her but it was hard to let him go because she loved him.”
“She finally summoned up courage and broke up with him in December 2013. The guy however refused to let her go, he was always threatening her….she reported him to the school authority and he was sanctioned.
Fast forward to Saturday morning, he showed up in her room….argument here and there, beatings and he ended up murdering her. On realizing what he had done, he ran out, went to the security officials and cooked up a story…they believed him at first, followed him to the girls’ room etc…somehow they got to know he was the culprit plus he had  some blood stains on his body.”

Ladies, Before advancing into any relationship, be wise….any man that hits you doesn’t deserve you!
Flee from him if he hits you once.
56  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Shehu Sani to govt: swap girls on: 27-05-2014 12:45 PM

One of the early facilitators of peace talks with Boko Haram, Comrade Shehu Sani, said yesterday that the best option for the Federal Government is to swap the abducted girls with the sect members in detention.

He said the use of force to rescue the girls might turn tragic for the nation.

He also said if the girls were kept longer in Boko Haram enclave, they might become radicalised and turn into insurgents.

Sani, who spoke with our correspondent last night in Abuja, said the nation does not need the girls bodies after going through this harrowing experience.

He said: “My advice to the Federal Government is to take the path of honour and swap the abducted girls. What is important is to get the girls out of Boko Haram enclaves.

“The government cannot be talking of the use of force; it cannot be possible in this circumstance.

“We don’t need the bodies of these innocent girls; we need their bodies and souls. Let us save these girls now by swapping.

“After swapping the girls, the nation can now address insurgency in whatever way it deems fit.”

Responding to a question, Sani added: “The Federal Government is in a dilemma. Those in government see that negotiation will make the government to be weak. And if they use force, it may turn tragic with Nigerians blaming them.

“This is why swapping of the girls is an option the government should consider. By now, we would have forgotten this challenge.”

Sani, who recommended Ahmed Salkida to the Federal Government (the central figure in the ongoing back-door talks with Boko Haram), warned against the danger of holding the girls hostage for long.

He said: “The danger of keeping them is that Boko Haram will be radicalising them. And if they succeed in radicalising the girls, we will be coping with another round of insurgents. This is what those in government should understand.”

Grisly head in cellophane, headless body in uncompleted building, ritualists coffin in estate Residents fight back, resort to jungle justice. This, indeed, is an unusual season for the residents of Ogun State. Lately, sleeping with their two eyes closed has become a Herculean task.

They now have to constantly look above their shoulders as they walk on the streets due to the new wave of crime in Abeokuta, the state capital and other major cities in the state.

Kidnapping, child stealing and ritual killings have virtually taken the place of conventional crimes such as armed robbery, theft and other social vices.

The gory scenes in the state began early this year when the police, one morning, arrested a man, Adelani Ayomide, who concealed 18 human skulls in a sack in Otta, Ado-Odo/Otta Local Government Area.

Early last month, the police in the state arrested a suspected lunatic allegedly found in possession of  decomposing meat and intestines suspected to be human parts at Iyana Egbado in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The suspected lunatic, simply identified as Gbenga, was alleged to be carrying out his operations under a bridge located  about 250metres away from the gates of a popular cement factory along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway and suspected to be a ritualists’ operational base in the area.

Putrid stench oozed out from the suspected lunatic’s den, littered with decomposing human parts chopped into pieces; plastic containers filled with human blood, ladies under wears, ladies’ and men’s shoes, blood stained dresses and duvets.

Other items found in the suspect’s den included knives,  disused electronic equipment and cartons of assorted soft drinks.

Gbenga, said to be the sole occupant of the site, was first apprehended by some residents of the area, one of whom was said to have snatched the polythene bags in which he was concealing the suspected human parts.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspected lunatic was exposed when he attacked a female passers-by who was however rescued by another male passers-by.

The male passersby was said to have become suspicious of the polythene bags the suspect had in his possession and attempted to forcibly take them away from him.
It was in the process that the polythene bags got torn and their contents spilled on the ground.

The male passersby immediately raised the alarm attracting a crowd from the nearby cement factory and Egbado village.
The crowd attempted to lynch the suspect.

The suspected lunatic pleaded with the mob not to kill him as he was ready to confess to the alleged crime.

An eye witness, who identified himself as Samuel Oladele, said the suspect then brought out a mobile phone and put frantic calls across to some unknown persons.
Oladele disclosed that the suspect  confessed that he belonged to a five-man syndicate operating in the Ewekoro axis in the past nine months.

Police men from Itori later came and whisked away the suspect, said to have claimed to hail from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Barely 24 hours after the incident, residents of Akinremi Estate, Adigbe, Abeokuta uncovered another alleged base of alleged ritualists.

The police from the Adigbe Division, Abeokuta  arrested a woman believed to be the wife of the suspected owner of the house and rescued three pregnant ladies as well as three children from the place.

The duplex in which the incident occurred was alleged to have also doubled as a baby making factory.
Hundreds of  youths who trooped to the area to catch a glimpse of the alleged ritualists’ base set the building ablaze.

Some residents of the estate claimed that one of the victims had, the previous day, escaped from the house, ran into another building located about 200 meters away and pleaded  with the occupants to save her from her assailants.

The pregnant victim, said to have hailed from Abia State, was said to have informed the neighbours that her elder sister sold her and her unborn child to the alleged ritualists for N100,000.

The neighbours informed the police who raided the premises at about 11p.m.
As news of the incident filtered into town, angry youths, mainly students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere, Abeokuta, stormed the duplex and ransacked some of the rooms after breaking the padlocks earlier used to lock them by the police.

The irate youths were said to be in search of a food warmer and a Jerry can allegedly filled with fresh human blood and used by the alleged ritualists.

After the search of the building, the youths allegedly emerged with several items suspected to be ritual objects, including an ivory plate containing fresh blood,a coffin, a human image made of wood, a live scorpion and assorted charms.

Also discovered in the house were an international passport, identity cards of the students of Sacred Heart Catholic College, Oke -Ilewo who eye witnesses said might have been victims of the suspected ritualists.

White prayer gowns said to belong to some victims who might have been kidnapped  and killed were also recovered from the house.

Property set ablaze along with the building were two vehicles: a Toyota Camry car marked (Lagos) EKY 942 AJ and a Mitsubushi car marked (Lagos) AGL 971 BH parked within the premises.

The intervention of the officials of the Ogun State Fire Service, who raced to the scene in two fire engines, saved the building from being completely consumed by the inferno.

Policemen who had earlier stayed aloof and watched the angry youths suddenly started to fire live ammunition and tear gas to disperse the crowd which was becoming restive.

Police Armoured Personnel Carriers were subsequently deployed in the area to strengthen security.
A large number of the youths, who were arrested, were whisked away to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident but said only two victims were rescued, while two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the running of the alleged ritualists’ base.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, gave the names of the rescued victims as Jennifer Goodluck, who is nursing a two-month old baby and Oluchi, a heavily pregnant victim.
All the victims are said to be natives of Abia State.

The deputy PPRO also disclosed that one Muibat Yusuf and her brother who are both indigenes of Kwara State were arrested in connection with the incident.
He added that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, who later undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the area, urged residents to be vigilant, particularly about their neighbours.

Some days after that incident, the police in Ogun and Lagos State in a joint operation,  arrested five persons in Joju area of Ado-Odo / Ota LGA for allegedly being in possession of a human head and pieces of flesh.

The suspects were arrested following a tip-off.
The suspects were identified as Kubura Salami, Tantolorun Abimbola,Kafaya Popoola,Waheed Ibrahim and Adamu Rafiu.

The human head and human flesh were kept in a container stained with liquid substance suspected to be blood.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the arrest.
Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police, added that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police,  Okoye, ordered that the case be handed over to SARS in Lagos for investigation since it’s a follow- up to an ongoing investigation by the police in Lagos.

About three days after, suspected kidnappers struck in a private school in Aso Rock area of Obantoko, Abeokuta almost succeeded in abducting some children.
Six pupils of the school were said to have escaped abduction.

Our correspondent gathered that after a failed attempt the previous day to abduct the pupils, the suspected kidnappers returned to the area the next morning and attempted to kidnap another pupil.

According to eye witnesses, the pupils were returning from school where they had gone for holiday lesson when about four men in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) allegedly seized them.

Recounting their experience, two of the rescued pupils, Oreoluwa and Adebayo, said that one of their abductors, who was dressed like a Muslim cleric, had requested that they give them water to pour in the overheating radiator of their car before they were kidnapped.

They were then taken into an uncompleted building in the area where they tied their hands.

But Oreoluwa, whose hands were not properly tied, untied her colleagues when three of the suspected kidnappers left the uncompleted building and the fourth member of the gang went to ease himself.

A teacher in the school, Gabriel Adesoga, said that a gang of suspected kidnappers came to the area and attempted to kidnap a male pupil who screamed, alerting the school and the neighbourhood.

A search party organized by some of the residents was said to have found a dilapidated building located in a bush in the area and allegedly being used by the suspected kidnappers.
Policemen were later deployed in the area.

The dust on the failed kidnap of the six pupils had yet to settle when a Nigerien, Mamodu Bashir Ibrahim, allegedly beheaded a two-year-old infant and also raped his mother in Owode Egba, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect committed the crime after having carnal knowledge of the mother of the boy, who had gone to ease herself in a nearby bush in Ofada area of the town.
The suspect trailed her to the spot where he pounced on her.

A resident who suspected the movement of the Nigerien was said to have followed him to the crime scene.
The suspect was, however, said to have escaped with the head of the infant while the resident rescued the woman with the headless body of her child.

When the suspect was arrested, he led men of the state Criminal Investigation Department to the crime scene.
The head of the infant could not be found but the knife with which the suspect carried out the attack was recovered.

The police said the suspect claimed to have sold the head  to a woman in Ibadan, disclosing that detectives had launched a manhunt for the buyer.
The suspect, in a chat with news men at the scene of the crime littered with blood, confessed to have raped the woman, killed her son and cut his head which he claimed to have thrown  into the bush.

The police however saved the suspect from being lynched by angry residents of the area.
Meanwhile, the police recovered the boy’s head in a bag in a bush when the suspect took the investigation team to Mokola area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The police have yet to unravel the identity of those who gave the suspect the job.
The rampant activities of ritualists and kidnappers in Ogun has, however, given room to rumours which have led to attacks, destruction of property and the killing of innocent persons.

The fears of falling victims to the ritualists and kidnappers have resulted in a dangerous development whereby, at the slightest suspicion, the destitute and mentally sick persons have become targets of lynching by mobs in the state.

Only recently, a man, alleged to have sprayed an unknown substance in the face of two secondary school girls around Kugba, Saje area of Abeokuta in a bid to kidnap them, was lynched by a mob and his body set ablaze.

Also, on April 21, at the Enugada and Lafenwa areas of Abeokuta, respectively, two persons of unsound mind (mad men) were attacked by some miscreants on the suspicion of being kidnappers and battered before they were rescued by the police.

On Easter Monday, angry protesters stormed a two-storey building in Agbole – Ogun Compound in Ijaiye area of Abeokuta, vandalizing the property belonging to a former top police officer (names withheld).

The intervention of the men of the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ogun State Vigilance Service prevented the burning down of the building rumoured to have been a suspected ritualists’ den littered with human parts.

Policemen had to shoot into the air to scare and disperse the restive mob, resulting in a commotion in which some people sustained injuries.

The State VSO Public Relations Officer, Soji Ganzallo, said: “The rumour came from no where and before we knew what was happening, there had been distress calls from all our units at Ijaiye area. When we got here we decided to seek the permission of the Balogun of Ijaye, who equally heard received similar distress call.”

The Balogun Ijaiye, Alhaji Chief Balogun Alemo, confirmed that the “intervention of the Police, the VSO and civil defence prevented the burning of this house.”

Worried by the development, the state police command has warned residents to desist from meting out jungle justice to anyone suspected to be involved in kidnapping or ritual killings or risk prosecution.

Towards this end, the police in the state  recently arraigned in court 17 persons arrested for allegedly carrying out a mob attack on the house belonging to a retired deputy superintendent of police over allegations that the property was being used as ritualists’ den.

Ogun State government, in the same vein, vowed not to fold its arms and allow criminal elements to take over the state.

As part of the efforts to check crime, the state Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Chief Samuel Aiyedogbon, spoke on the need for leaders of Community Development Associations to take charge of community policing.

Aiyedogbon said if such a move was made, it would go a long way in checking rising crime, particularly in the areas of  baby-making factories and ritualist’s dens.
Aiyedogbon advised landlords to always ascertain the business their tenants engage in before renting their buildings to them.

He also urged  owners of uncompleted buildings to ensure that the environment of such buildings were kept clean so as not to serve as hideouts for criminally minded people.

According to the Poverty and Justice Bible there are more than 2,000 references in the
Bible to justice and the poor. Jim Wallis once famously took a pair of scissors and cut out all the
passages relating to justice and the poor and when done the Bible was full of holes. This action
led Richard Stearns to title his book, The Hole in our Gospel. By this he meant we need to
understand God’s heart for justice and the poor if we are to fully understand the good news of the
gospel.
Bruce Strom has written a book entitled Gospel Justice. In it he walks through the Bible
demonstrating that justice is part of the very nature of God, is represented in how he acts toward
us and is the foundation of his rule and reign. As people created in His image we need to reflect
our creator and care about the things He cares about. One of those primary concerns is justice.
God’s Character DEMANDS justice.
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he. Deut. 32:4
The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. Psalms 111:7
The LORD within her is just; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he dispenses his justice, and every
new day he does not fail. Zeph. 3:5
For the LORD is a God of justice. Isa. 30:18
God’s Conduct DISPLAYS justice.
With righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
Isa. 11:4
The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does
not oppress. Job 37:23
He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. The LORD is a refuge for the
oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. .. The LORD is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are

ensnared by the work of their hands. Ps. 9:8-9, 16.

God’s Court DEPLOYS justice.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Ps. 89:14.
Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
Ps. 45:6.
I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Ps. 140:12
The LORD takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people. Isa. 3:13.

We are made to reflect the image of God.
Our Character needs to reflect His Character.
Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Ps. 106:3
For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Ps. 37:28
The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern. Prov. 29:7
Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow. Dt. 27:19
Our Conduct needs to reflect God’s Conduct.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with
justice. Ps. 112:5
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly
and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Mic. 6:8
This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to
one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. In your hearts
do not think evil of each other.’ Zech. 7:9-10
Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. Prov. 28:5
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords
of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Isa. 58:6
Our Court needs to reflect God’s court.
Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits. Ex. 23:6
Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, for the LORD
will take up their case and will plunder those who plunder them. Prov. 22:22-23
For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. You oppress the righteous and
take bribes and you deprive the poor of justice in the courts…Hate evil, love good; maintain
justice in the courts…But let Justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing
stream!” Amos 5:12, 15, 24.
Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless,
plead the case of the widow. Isa. 1:17
Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. Ps. 82:3-4.
