13  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / New NYSC batch go to camp today on: 2-07-2012 10:51 AM
The clarion call has been sounded across the country as the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, opens its camps nationwide today to Batch B corps members, but the youth are having reservations and are reluctant to answer the call to serve in some parts of the country.

Following incessant bomb blasts and gun battle in the Northern part of the country, most youth and their parents have rejected the offer to serve in the war-torn states. But the NYSC had put its foot down saying it will not rescind on the decision. The NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri for example has been closed since last year.

The NYSC Director- General, Brig-Gen Nnamdi Okore-Affa has said, “Nigeria has 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. By our mandate, we must post corps members to all states.

“However, because some areas have been described as volatile, what we will do is to reduce the number of corps member sent to such states. They will be posted to areas where their security will be guaranteed.

“The truth is that each state deserves corps members. We will not deliberately send corps members to violence-prone areas, but we will send to at least state capitals.”
Inspite of Okore-Affa's statement though, there have been calls for the NYSC to be reviewed so that coprs members will serve in their zones of origin. A Parents-Teachers Association bigwig, Michael Nwachukwu, said that although NYSC scheme was laudable, the insurgency in those troubled places had made nonsense of it. Read More

Controversial maverick entertainment personality, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has set another record with his confession that he is gay. By so confessing, he becomes only the second publicly known gay man in Nigeria.

This is a record that Pastor Rowland Macaulay beat him to by being the first Nigerian to openly come out and even establish a church that catered for only gays. Those who know Charly Boy well however say he’s not someone who likes being a follower. He’s always a leader in everything he does and he’s now ready to take his rightful leadership position in the gay world.

In an interview with a new publication, Danfo Express, Charly Boy declared that he is gay and not ashamed of being gay.]Read Full story...
