61  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / American man arrested for biting snake on: 4-09-2011 02:34 PM
The suspect, David Senk, 54, was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully maiming or mutilating a reptile, Sacramento police said. The badly injured snake underwent surgery.
Senk said he had no recollection of the incident after blacking out from drinking but felt "horrible as hell about it."
Asked why he might have bitten the snake, Senk replied: "I get drunk, I get crazy. I don't know. I've been an alcoholic for a long time."
Senk was taken into custody after police, responding to a report of an assault, found him lying on the ground with blood on his face.
Officers were then approached by another man and a woman who told them Senk had just taken two large bites out of their python when they let him hold the snake.
There was nothing to indicate that the snake provoked him at all. He (Senk) just out of the blue took a bite," the police spokesman said. "From what I understand, he didn't say anything. He was pretty incoherent."
The snake, measuring 3 to 4 feet in length, is recovering after a vet stitched it up.
Senk said he was "not too fond of snakes (but) I try not to bite them."
"It's the other way around usually," he added. They bite me."
62  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'RAPIST' pleads: "I want to rape you once but I will use a condom". on: 4-09-2011 02:20 PM
Such were the words of a segxwally hungry Victoria Falls man who wanted to rape an unsuspecting Majority Dube (28) after a beer binge at Mukali Bar.
After taking one too many, it is said, the man (whose name was not disclosed) hatched a plan with Dube to change a drinking spat at around 4am. Off they left to the nearby Mpofu La Night Club.
It is said the man told Dube to avoid the main road as they were likely to come across patrolling policeman.
Dube oblidged and they used a road which passes through a bush.
For the man it was not only a road process of putting on the condom that would help them avoid bumping into the law enforcers, it was a segxwal haven to be.
Along the way, the man could not conceal his hidden agenda of quenching his segxwal desires hence, it is reported, he grabbed Dube and pushed her to the gound in a frantic effort to enjoy the forbidden fruit.
It seems the 'rapist' was aware force who heard the screams of the consequences of unprotected sex, therefore he told Dube: "I want to rape you once but I will use a condom".
When the man was in the process of putting a condom, Dube escaped from being coerced to having sex with a stranger.
She is reported to have bitten the man could the wannabe rapist's hand forcing him to let go of her.
Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson Eglon Nkala confirmed the incident, adding that the woman was saved by another member of the police force who heard the screams when he was passing by.
"It was fortunate that a police officer was passing through the bush, when he heard the woman screaming for help he rushed to witness what was happening.
When the would be rapist heard the foot-steps he escaped from the scene leaving the poor woman lying down" he said.
He therefore urged members of the public to desist from using bushy paths especially women as they might fall at the hands of segxwally starved men.
"People should not use short cuts especially in bushy areas as they put their lives in danger," he said.
63  Forum / Politics / We know sponsors of bomb blasts- Jonathan on: 4-09-2011 02:12 PM
President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday that government knows the sponsors of the recurrent explosions in the country.
He said government has uncovered what he called “strong leads” to the terrorists ad those behind them.
The president said he has therefore directed security agenicies to begin a man hunt for the alleged sponsors, saying there would be no “sacred cows” in the “war against terror.”
President Jonathan, who spoke at the launch of the new National Drivers Licence and vehicle number plates in Abuja, also paid N6000 to obtain his new drivers’ licence.
He warned those visiting death and destruction on innocent Nigerians and their sponsors that there is “no hiding place” for them anymore.
Jonathan said: “Today’s launch has acquired greatest significance following last Friday’s unprovoked attack which led to the loss of lives and has left in its trail gory images of the threat which terrorism now poses to the peace and security of our nation and the safety of our citizens.
“Since the last bombing episode on October 1, I had directed the hastening of efforts to build a credible data base of drivers and vehicles in order to improve public safety. The importance of this project is reaffirmed by the consistent use of vehicles in the conduct of the recent bombing episode.
“Let me use this occasion to reassure Nigerians and members of the international community that we now have strong leads as to those involved in this terror war on Nigeria and Nigerians. I have directed security operatives to go after them no matter where they may be hiding.
“Also, I am using this opportunity to warn that those who choose to hide under our new freedom to perpetuate evil against our people shall have no hiding place.”
This administration, according to the President, is fully determined and able to deal with all threats and agents of instability who continue to test the resolve of our nation and its democratic institutions and leadership.
“As President and Chief Security Officer of the nation, I will employ every means and instruments at my disposal to secure this nation against forces of evil which seek to divide and sabotage our country,” Jonathan said.
He added: “There shall be no sacred cows in our efforts to expose, contain and defeat this network of terror. I have directed the review of our national security architecture to lay greater emphasis on intelligence and citizens’ participation in security surveillance.”
An explosion went off at the United Nations (UN) House in Abuja penultimate Friday, killing at least 23 people and injuring scores of others.
In June, another blast rocked the Police Headquarters also in Abuja.
There was controversty over the casualty figure, but a traffic warden was officially confirmed dead in that attack.
The Boko Haram (‘Western education is sin’) sect claimed responsibility for both explosions.
The State Security Service (SSS) early in the week arrested and detained two suspects - Babagana Ismail (aka Abu Summaya) and Babagana Mali (aka Bulama) - in connection with the UN building bombing.
Another suspect, Mamman Nur, an al-Qaeda- trained Boko Haram member, alleged to be the brain behind the explosion, has been declared wanted.
On Thursday, the fundamentalist group named 27-year-old Mohammed Abdul as the suicide bomber who drove the explosive-laden Honda Accord Car that rammed into the UN House.
Before extending its operation to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Boko Haram had been engaged in series of killings and attacks in Borno, Bauchi and some other northern states.
Jonathan said yesterday that government was pleased “that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has delivered in its promise to introduce a credible driver’s licence that meets international standard.”
He described the launch of the new enhanced driver’s licence and number plates by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as a “positive development which demonstrates the FRSC’s commitment to the government’s transformation agenda and testimony that we can get it right in this country.”
He added: “Restoring the integrity of the driver’s licence allies fully with the transformation agenda of this government. It is at the heart of the efforts to alter a culture of recklessness, impunity and lack of consideration for other road users and to transform these negative traits to a positive affirmation of a rule driven society.”
According to him, the international dimension of driver’s licences and number plates imposes on Nigeria as a country the need to ensure that they are not used as instruments of terrorism.
He spoke further: “I want to reassure Nigerians and members of the international community that terror groups would be defeated in our land. This administration will spare no effort or resource in containing these latest threats to the unity and stability of our nation.
“Terrorism has no conscience, it spares no one. We must all stand together against terror and its destructive manifestations. We are in touch with all international agencies involved in the global war against terror. We work in tandem with all organisations and partners towards a timely and eventual containment and defeat of terror and their sponsors in our land.”
The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Osita Chidoka, said the new drivers licence and number plates would play three significant roles in the polity, namely, enhanced enforcements of road traffic rules, track drivers’ behavioural patterns, and help in national security.
He also revealed that all driver’s licences and number plate now in use have up till August 31, 2012 to change to the new ones.
He said the new driver’s licence now costs 6,000, while the vehicle number plates would cost N15, 000 for private car owners.
Chidoka said: “Today (yesterday) is the beginning of our quest to restore the integrity of the driver’s licence. It is a culmination of the work we have done with the support of the media very strongly to re-educate Nigerians and to bring back the integrity of the driver’s licence. One of the critical ingredients of this is that we are going to have a credible data base of drivers and vehicles in Nigeria.
“One of the significant changes to the plate number system in Nigeria today is that plate numbers are now attached to individuals and not to vehicles. That is to say, if you sell your vehicle, you are under obligation to return those plate numbers and make sure that the new person gets a fresh registration to ensure that we have a credible data base of who owns what vehicle at every time and we are linking the vehicle plate numbers to the drivers licence.
“So, we will have a credible data base of easily calling up that. Now that would help us in three critical things. The new drivers licence and plate numbers would help us first in enforcement, develop patterns of the behaviour of the drivers, and help in area of national security.”
Dignitaries present at the launch which took place at the headquarters of the FRSC in Abuja, included the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, Minister of Information and Communications, Labaran Maku, Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mrs Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, among others
64  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Three-year-old Molested by 25 year old man for Wearing a Bikini on: 4-09-2011 02:02 PM
A three-year-old girl was molested by a twenty-five-year-old man after her bikini erotically stimulated him. This is Anthony J. Asbell (25) who while on holiday with his girlfriend and a couple of friends (who had children) molested a three-year-old girl. The group were camping on the banks of Snake River, and during the course of one of the afternoons he took the girl into the water for a swim, during the process Asbell has confessed to putting his fingers into the gusset area of the girls bikini, probing her genitals sharply with his fingers causing her to scream out.
The child’s parent, were aware of the incident, but Asbell never told them exactly how the girl was hurt. It was not until the parents took the child home, and found marks around the girls honeypot. In a phone call Asbell told the parents that he “accidently touched her” and it was not intentional. However it was later discovered that in a slip of the tongue, Asbell admitted to being aroused by the girl because she was in a bikini. Asbell claimed he did not understand what was going through his head, other than he found himself erotically stimulated by the young girl.
Asbell was charged with segxwal battery charges, but initially denied the charges when he was arrested by Canyon County police department after the phone call with the girls parents. However faced with some horrendous looking jail time, Asbell has claimed that he believes he is sick, and has been placed on remand while he undergoes a psychosegxwal evaluation.
Asbell will be sentenced on October 28th, after the results of the evaluation come in. If he is found guilty of the offence having a sane mind, he could face up to four years in prison, however if he is found to indeed be sick, he could simply face six months in a hospital, where he will be continuously assessed.
65  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / We want our father, dead or alive —Family on: 4-09-2011 01:55 PM
The family of Mr. Elisha Onabu on Sunday said they had yet to see their father and breadwinner who left for office on Friday morning and had not returned.

Onabu, an indigene of Ebelle in Ishan area of Edo State, works with the World Health Organisation.
His 20-year-old son, Sunday Enabu, told our correspondent at the premises of National Hospital, Abuja that they saw their father on Friday morning when he left for work. Curiously enough, the Toyota Camry car he drove to the office, is still parked within the UN office premises.
Although he was not allowed into the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, Sunday said his father’s colleagues and some family members had combed major hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja but his father had not been found.
He said, “I saw my father last on Friday morning. All of us, including my neighbours and church members have been calling his telephone line but it has not been ringing. We are not sure if he could be among the victims but I pray and hope he is not.
“We have visited about seven hospitals searching for him but all to no avail. He was working in UN but later transferred to World Health Organisation.
“One of his friends, who worked with him in Lagos, told me he saw him that Friday but had not seen him again since that time.”

66  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Teen unwittingly kills father while defending uncle on: 4-09-2011 01:37 PM
A teenage boy who ran to defend his uncle from an attacker Friday night ended up stabbing his own father to death, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, a home in the 800 block of 109th Avenue Court East, at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Mike Blair of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
When they arrived, they found two brothers in the driveway. The 46-year-old brother was suffering from serious head wounds and the 47-year-old brother was suffering from multiple stab wounds.
An investigation found that several family members were at the home when the 47-year-old brother, who was estranged from his family, unexpectedly arrived there.
When the 46-year-old brother went outside to see who was in the driveway, the older brother attacked him, striking him in the head several times with a crowbar, Blair said.
Two teenage boys inside the home heard the commotion and looked outside to see what was happening. When they saw the 46-year-old brother, who is their uncle, being attacked in the driveway they ran to help him.
One of the boys stabbed the attacker multiple times in an attempt to defend his uncle - not knowing that the attacker was his own father, Blair said.
Both of the brothers were rushed to area hospitals. The 47-year-old brother - the teen's father - died from his stab wounds several hours later.
Blair said the teen was not taken into custody.
"Based on the circumstances ... we were comfortable that this person is not a danger to rest of society," he said. "He was standing up for the safety of his uncle - it just so happened that it ended up being his father who was killed."
Blair said it ultimately will be up to the prosecutor to decide whether to file charges against the teen. But he said the facts, as known so far, show that the teen was merely acting to defend his uncle.
"Certainly we would allow a member of our community to protect somebody who's being feloniously assaulted, and that's kind of where we're at right now," Blair said.

67  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Pastors rape women on the pretext of healing on: 4-09-2011 01:34 PM
THE adage “frailty thy name is woman” is gaining currency in the modern age, as dubious prophets rape women on the pretext of healing them, with many females falling for this overused trick.
Examples abound of women falling into the same trap, as it seems prophets are using this method to solicit for sex from desperate women, fitting perfectly into the phrase that renowned writer, William Shakespeare coined to describe what he saw as an apparent weakness in women.
With social problems mounting over the past decade, many people have taken to religion as an escape route out of their troubles and the unfortunate have fallen victim to the wolves in sheep skin who take advantage of such situations.
The most infamous person, who reportedly took advantage of women’s desperation should be Godfrey Nzira who was convicted of molesting seven women, taking advantage of his lofty position in one of several apostolic sects.
Nzira was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2003, but was released seven years later on a presidential pardon, in what many claim was because of his close links with Zanu PF.
Most of these cases border on craziness, only serving as an illustration of the low levels of desperation people would have reached, that they are willing to do anything to get help.
In one bizarre case a prophet is reportedly said to have led to the separation of a family that was seeking help because they faced marital problems.
The prophet, Emmanuel Musonza allegedly invited the couple to his home for counselling, where he told them that the spirits were against their marriage and they should separate.
Unbeknown to the couple, the healer’s main target was to sleep with the wife and now Musonza faces rape charges. In another case self styled prophet told a family that their 16-year-old daughter was possessed by evil spirits and should be brought for exorcism immediately.
Since the “Man of God” had spoken, the lass was taken to the prophet, with the parents oblivious to the fact that their daughter was like the proverbial sheep being led to the slaughter house.
Aaron Mutsemu, the false prophet, reportedly told the girl that if she dared report that she had been abused, the family would suffer bouts of ill fortune.
The victim, however, took the chance and reported the case leading to the prophet’s arrest. But in some cases the women do not report and instead the cases only come out when they have been infected or passed the diseases to their spouses.
A leader of an association of apostolic churches, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described pastors who took advantage of their flock as fake.
He said a register of such preachers should be created so they should not be allowed to preach.
“There should be a list of such fake pastors and they should be barred from preaching,” he said. “Some countries have sex offenders registers and that could act as a deterrent.”
The pastor said it was difficult to control the number of prophets or register them as new sects mushroomed daily.
Vimbai Njovana, an advocacy officer at Msasa Project, said they had received a number of such cases and all they could do was to raise awareness and encourage the women to report the abuse.
“No one should be subjected to such treatment, we have to raise awareness so that they report such cases,” she said.
Njovana conceded that it was difficult for abused women to report rape cases to their spouses because of the patriarchal nature of society.
As the philosopher Karl Marx said “religion is the opium of the masses,” many more women, probably led by “blind faith” are likely to fall into the lures set up by false prophets.
Leader of the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers’ Association (Zinatha), Gordon Chavhunduka described such healers as “crooks and unprofessional”.
“In such cases we bring in the police to help with investigations as these people are crooks and are unprofessional,” he said.
Chavhunduka said in such cases healers were summoned to disciplinary hearings and in most instances were expelled from the association.

69  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Mum made son wear 'I'm a thief' signboad on pubilc on: 24-08-2011 09:02 AM
A MUM has ignited a national debate after making her 10-year-old son stand in a busy park wearing a sign saying, "Do not trust me. I will steal from you as I am a thief".
The mother, who confessed to having a criminal past when she was young, said it was to ensure he did not follow in her footsteps.
"I have lived a life that most people would not dream of and I am trying to stop my child from going down the same road as I did, because even though I have sorted myself out, it took me 10 years to do," said the single mother of three children.
The woman said she had tried everything to stop her son shoplifting and stealing - visits to courthouses, chats with police, visits to police cells and even a trip to a youth detention centre.
Finding a stash of chocolates in her son's drawer after a trip to the corner shop to buy milk last week was the last straw.
"I have put him into courses, I have had counselling done, I have done everything I can," she said.
"I think he has learnt his lesson. I think that hour (in the park) is enough for him to go: 'I don't ever want to do this again'.
"I did the same thing as my son, shoplifting as a teenager, and then it escalated because I didn't have a mum there to teach me right from wrong."
The woman said her son had been stealing since he was seven.
The mum's actions made headlines, becoming the No.1 story on websites and dominating talkback radio from Melbourne to Townsville, where the family live.
Her parenting style simultaneously appalled and inspired parents around the nation.
A surprisingly large number of people praised her and called for the cane to be reintroduced. Many also sympathised with her.
But Queensland University parenting director Prof Matt Sanders said the "shame and humiliation" approach was unlikely to have the desired effect.
"There's almost no evidence that I'm aware of that this kind of shame and humiliation approach to kids is effective, and it can very easily backfire,"

73  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man beats son to death on: 13-08-2011 12:28 PM
The proverbial saying, "Spare the rod and spoil the child" seems to have pushed Tunde Shitta, an auto mechanic, to beat his 11-year-old son, Toib, to death.
Our correspondent, who visited Tunde's home at 33, Adeniyi Street, Itire, Lagos; learnt from neighbours that he had on many occassions flogged Toib, leaving him with scars.
A resident, who spoke to PUNCH METRO on the condition of anonymity, said Tunde visited his anger on the 11-year-old boy after his new wife reported that he (Toib) disobeyed her.
The neighbour said, "On that day, his stepmother sent him on an errand but he refused because he was sleepy. When the father returned, she reported Toib's disobedience to him and he flogged him.
"His father hit his head with a stool and then he began to bleed until he died."
PUNCH METRO gathered that after the incident, Tunde did not report to the police but went to bury Toib according to Islamic rites in his grandfather's compound.
It was gathered that police were unaware of the incident until Toib's biological mother who had divorced his father, went to Itire Police Division to report.
When our correspondent visited the division, a police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the case was under investigation.
He said, "We only got wind of the situation on Wednesday night when a woman came to report that her ex-husband had beat her son to death.
"The suspect however claimed that it was while he was beating his son that the latter fell and hit his head against a stool. Tunde said when his son started bleeding, he was rushed to a hospital but died on the way.
"So, the police are investigating in order to ascertain if the father actually hit him with a stool like the neighbours claimed or he fell and hit his head. The stool has even been recovered."
Another neighbour, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described Tunde as a man, who was fond of beating up his wife and children.
He said, "Before Tunde divorced Toib's mother, he used to beat her. On one occasion, he stabbed her in the head. That was when she decided to divorce him, leaving him with her four children.
"Toib was only 11 years old and was in primary six at Itire Primary School then. It is unfortunate that he was killed by his father."
Another member of the community, who also craved anonymity, said Tunde should be charged for also trying to cover up the crime.
"After killing his son, Tunde instructed his three other children to clean up the crime scene. I can only imagine the sort of trauma they are going through. He then went ahead to bury Toib without filing a police report," he said.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said the police were investigations the incident.
"The Lagos State Police Command is poised to reduce crime to its barest minimum in the state and we will make sure no criminal goes unpunished," he said.

74  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Blogger in trouble for posting Sam Loco Efe's death picture on: 13-08-2011 12:19 PM
Model and fervent blogger, Linda Ikeji, might have come short of the love and admiration of many followers and fans of her popular blog, Linda Ikeji blogspot, following the posting, yesterday, of the picture of late actor, Sam Loco Efe's corpse. The pallid picture was tagged 'Photo Evidence'. Defending her action, which she hinges on the uncertainty surrounding Efe's death; Ikeji notes, "A lot of people have been going back and forth on whether the legendary actor is truly dead or not. He really is. I went out of my way to bring you photo evidence. He didn't slump and die like a lot of people have been reporting; he died in his sleep while sitting on a chair in his hotel room. A very heartbreaking picture of how he was on Sunday, August 2011."
Hardly had the picture been posted than a floodgate of expletives opened for Ikeji with many accusing her of brazen insensitivity and selfish pursuit of traffic to her blog. "This is inappropriate and extremely disrespectful to the dead man's family. How dare you? It displays very poor judgment on your part. Perhaps you have no understanding of the value of self-censorship. Please, take it down now," writes an anonymous person. Another person questions her; "Linda, if he was your father, would you put up such just to get people to believe he is really dead? It is offensive. Take it down ASAP."

Yet, another person posits, "It has since been confirmed that Sam Loco is dead. I know you want to make money at all costs and generate huge traffic to your blog. Please, show some compassion for his family and friends." Actor, Dejumo Lewis of the Village Headmaster fame was also quoted by a national newspaper has having strongly condemned the action. "I think it is morally deplorable. I condemn it."

Ikeji replies, "No need to insult me, If you find the picture offensive, I will take it down. This is just to put a rest to the rumours that he survived a heart attack and is recuperating in a hospital." The picture was promptly removed. But a number of people also commended the young lady's zeal and enterprise saying a journalist has to do what he has to in proving the authenticity of his story. Efe died last Sunday after completing work on a movie entitled Unknown Prophet in Owerri, Imo State. He was 66.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has threatened to go on strike to extract government’s commitment to end kidnapping and insecurity in the country.
The association vowed to shut down all oil and gas installations and operations in Nigeria, if governments at the federal and state levels did not evolve the political will to end the resurgence of kidnapping and insecurity in the country.
It stated that it has concluded plans to convene an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting next week to ratify its decision to stop all exploration, exploitation, exportation and production activities of crude oil in the country.
Speaking against the backdrop of resurgence of insecurity in the Niger Delta and insecurity resulting from various attacks by the Boko Haram sect in the North as well as other various communal clashes, the PENGASSAN President, Comrade Babatunde Ogun, condemned the inability of the government to curtail attacks on innocent Nigerians by the kidnappers and hoodlums.
He said, "It seems the collaborations between our association and the government has broken down. We have not seen any seriousness on the part of the government to end insecurity in the country. Our members are been attacked and kidnapped on daily basis.
"We have made various representations to the government on insecurity in the country and even our protest on the murder of two of our members at Mosogar in 2009 has not been attended to. This government has failed us in terms of security and we are ready to pull out our members from all the locations because our members’ well being is very important and can never be compromised."
He recalled that an ultimatum was given by PENGASSAN and its sister union in the oil and gas industry, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in 2009 to shut down all oil and gas installations in the country.
He said that the strike was suspended because of the intervention of the Federal Government, the former National Security Adviser (NSA), former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
"All the various committees set up by the government to look into our grievances have died a natural death without any valuable result or conclusion because of lack of commitment from the government. It shows the insincerity on the part of the government in attending to our issues, when the crude stops to flow, the leaders thinking faculty will function properly," he said.
Ogun also lamented government’s inability to manage industrial relations issues properly and hence making the unions in the oil and gas industry to suffer because of high cost of litigation...
