| | Following the weekend twin-bomb blast in Jos, capital of Plateau state, President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday directed the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluseyi Petinrin to immediately take full charge of the security operation in the state and take all necessary actions to stop the recurring spate of killings.
The President also directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim Pius to bring up all pending reports by recent committees set up by the Federal Government on the Plateau for immediate review and implementation.
The directives came following a meeting of the National Security Council, at the State House Abuja.
Mr. Jonathan who is scheduled to meet with the Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang on Tuesday, further directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to take prompt actions to address the plight of internally displaced persons in the State.
He reiterated his call on parties involved in the crises in Plateau State "to embrace tolerance, dialogue and compromise to ensure the success of ongoing efforts to achieve a lasting resolution of their differences". | | | | |

The reason i created this topic is becos of the way people abuse 2go nw. If u must kwn. 2go is already divided into 2 islam/christianity.. by nigerians.but that was nt d base of establishing 2go. 2go is suppose to be an avenu for meeting new friends. And to shear common knowlage... I just hope that 2go will not be wat will cuz the next religious crises in Nigeria. Pls peole lets lv in peace, and not in war... Naija is one. I love nigeria. SOME Fulani men, on Thursday, completely burnt down Kuturu, Malanchi, Gongo, Gumel, Gital villages, all in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The reprisal attack carried out by the Fulani, who allegedly dressed in black, also left five people dead with many others seriously wounded.
This is coming barely two months after the last ethno-religious crisis in the local government area claimed many lives, which made the state governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, to threaten to relocate people living in the town in the event of another crisis.
Confirming the crisis in a telephone interview with newsmen while in Tafawa Balewa to assess the situation, Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Abdulkadir Mohammed Indabawa, said that he could not identify the corpses as they were burnt beyond recognition.
He added that as soon as their identities were known, they would be made public. However, he said that as of the time of this report only three dead bodies had been recovered.
The police commissioner also said that he got the report of the attack in the early hours of Thursday and he immediately sent his men, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations to the town to ensure that peace was restored and also protect life and property of innocent citizens of the area.
A source disclosed to newsmen that some people, numbering about 500, stormed the town at about 4.30 a.m. through the Bununu road, armed with dangerous weapons and set houses ablaze, a development that led to people running for dear lives.
The source added that the prompt response by the few security men stationed in the area averted what could have been another bloodletting as, according to him, the attackers were fully armed and ready to kill anybody that came their way. He commended all security agents in the state for acting promptly to avert the crisis, and called on Governor Yuguda to set machinery in motion in order to settle the problems once and for all, because, according to him, “we have had enough shedding of innocent blood in this area, government should act now as promised by the governor, enough is enough.”
In his account, the Secretary-General of Tafawa Balewa Development Association, Mallam Yunusa Ado, said, “the fresh violence started when unknown people burnt down three villages, – Gital, Jaja and Yamgam – which left hundreds of women and children homeless, since people could not go inside the area. We are now waiting for security agents to open the place so that we can go and assess the situation.”
The Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, said, “we didn’t enter Tafawa Balewa town; we are operating in Gontakurwa and Bununu villages, receiving displaced people that are still coming. Later, when we know their number and their needs we will brief you.”
In his reaction to the crisis, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yuguda on Media Affairs, Sanusi Mohammed, dismissed the allegation that the government was responsible for the attack, saying the attackers came from a neighbouring state, with a mission to cause mayhem and misunderstanding in the area.
On the threat to relocate the area, Mohammed said that, “the government still stands by its statement to relocate the area if the problem persists. If the people do not want peace, they should leave the area and look for violence somewhere else.”
He, however, said that the situation was under control, pointing out that armed security men had already been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
It will be recalled that crisis erupted in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area on January 27, 2011, leaving 38 people dead while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. 25 suspects arrested are standing trial before a Bauchi Federal High Court.
The last crisis started at a snooker joint, following an argument between two youths, a development that led to the burning of the snooker joint by unknown persons.
Early last month, security operatives averted a reprisal attack in the area and the state government, as well as the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, held stakeholders’ meetings with the people of the area, stressing the need for them to allow peace to reign and live harmoniously with one another, irrespective of their ethnic and religious differences.
At the time of this new crisis, the committee set up by the state government to study and harmonise all the reports of previous crises in the area, headed by General Yakubu Sabo, was still sitting.

| “It’s a man’s world”… I know you girls have heard this phrase a million times. So many women have come to resent this phrase especially in the 21st century. The women who existed in the 19th and 20th century never really minded or cared to challenge male dominance in the world. Some believed it was man’s divine right to dominate the earth *the rationalization that God created man first* while others believed a woman’s place was beneath her husband *believe me the African culture didn’t help either*. In the 21st century, with emphasis on concepts like feminism, gender equality etc, male superiority is being questioned. There’s a gradual restructuring of the man- woman dynamics. Now we have career women like Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, Mo Abudu, female presidents *Liberia’s president is a woman, Germany’s Chancellor is a woman*, Hilary Clinton holds a key position in the US government. Women are now rising to the challenges of life. I don’t have a problem with a woman aspiring to great heights or fighting for equality. But this fight must cut across all facets of life. However, in Nigeria there’s still one aspect of life women tend to leave out which is ‘showing their affection or confronting a guy and telling him about their feelings‘. I wonder how women can clamor for equality and still believe there are areas where we shouldn’t be equal. I’ve heard statements like ‘it will make me look cheap’, ‘he’s a man, why can’t he come to me?’, or ‘what if he ignores me?’ these are rationalizations women tend to fall back on to avoid taking a stand on matters of the heart. How can you want to be president, own a company, show men you’re not just a weak vessel and u can’t tell a man how u feel about him first. A girl once told me told me its better to speak through body language and hope the guy understands *what a funny idea*. I believe women shy away from voicing out their feelings to a man first in order to avoid the pain of rejection. When a guy makes his feelings known to a girl and she dismisses it he feels hurt too *believe me I know how it feels, it’s a bad feeling*. I think the ladies should understand this. Men go for what they want, some are shy or are afraid of rejection but in the long run they go for what they want. In a world that is gradually becoming male-female dominated, women (girls and ladies inclusive) should be able to go for what they want especially in matters of the heart. To the guys reading this, I’m not saying you should sit down and cross your legs waiting for the sisters to come. I just want the women to know that the world is changing fast and certain rules are now obsolete, others are trying to adapt while new rules are being made. If you make the first move as a lady and a guy laughs at you know he’s a jerk and he isn’t worth your time. Making the first move won’t make you look cheap, it just proves you know what you want and you are going after it. The women might believe I’m wrong *there’s no reason why I can’t be* well to this question, there’s no right or wrong answer, just the realization that it doesn’t matter who goes first but if you want something go after it.  | | | | |

| | I’ve been thinking of what to write for quite sometime (experiencing writer’s block) but as I took a walk in my estate the topic came to me. I’m gonna write about The Naija Police *it should be fun*
Motto: to serve and protect, slogan: the police is your friend (I think I’m correct) however, their actions contradict these statements. Instead of serving and protecting they rule and oppress, instead of being our friend, they gradually become our enemy.
I don’t know your experience with the Naija Police but I’ve had quite a few. This arm of our law enforcement oppresses, suppresses, terrorizes as well as depresses the naija people. Hardly will you find anyone having a good thing to say about the Naija Police except their family members (a small percentage of the Naija population).
I know people will wonder why they behave in this manner, let’s have a little history class shall we: during the colonial era, the colonists established the constabulary in order to ensure the naija people (back then) comply with colonial rule (which the people considered draconic). So the constabulary acted as the watchdog for the colonists, they oppressed their own people, locked them up (when ordered to) and forced them to pay their taxes etc.
The Naija Police evolved from the constabulary of the colonial era, so you can know understand why they oppress and suppress the people. They have been doing so prior to impendence. So protect the people have never been their goal.
Unlike cops in European countries, ours have to walk the street with Ak-47s. I wonder why a police officer will be among civilians or walking down the street with a gun, is that not intimidating (maybe they are scared). Their outfit is a total killer; they wear a black uniform for Christ sakes. Black is synonymous with mourning, death and other sad and evil vices. There was a time, they wanted the colour changed but it’s not about the colour but their orientation.
To know how sick people are of them, even Naija musicians had to write songs about the naija police (wish Fela was alive, may his soul rest in perfect peace). D’banj in his first album had “Mr Olopa”, Psqaure had “Oga Police”, in MI’s “my belle my head” the third verse depicted police harassment of the people:
“ oga stop there/ abi you know see road block here (their aggressive nature)… if you wanna pass something gat to drop here (oppression)/ you no dey see gun abi you know well (intimidation)/ if you form actor you go go cell (dat’s standing on your right)/ see behind counter no be hotel/, you go spend 3nights b4 you go bail (no respect for habeas corpus law)/ but if you won move/ you know wetin you suppose do(extortion)….
On different occasions have been stopped by the Naija Police only when I’m driving (they have a thing against young guys driving cars):
Officer: stop! Park park abi you know hear (shouting)
Me: hello officer
Officer: where are your particulars?
Me: here
Officer: driver’s license
Me: here
Officer: wetin dey booth
Me: nothing
Officer: this car is a stolen vehicle
Me: no o! The car belongs to my mum (her name is on the particulars o!)
Officer: Na lie (is he blind?) officer, enter hin dey go station
Me: Na my mama car officer
To cut the long story short, I go to the station after all their shouting; I go home after 3-4 hrs. By the time I get home I’m usually tired so I go to bed. They I wonder why they like to waste my time. Then I realised that some people don’t give a crap about them.
Officer: stop
The individual: yes
Officer: park
The individual; are you mad? (He just zoomed off)
I was watching from the other side of the road, they had stopped my uncle. Seeing that I realised my uncle and I just ‘dulled ourselves’.
Now, if you understand something, you will know how to handle it without getting pissed. You’ll also have the upper hand.
Key points:
*Never show fear (they feed on it and it makes them strong)
* Always be on the right side of the law (cos if you’re not, dat’s the end. You become a meal ticket)
* When they serve you shit and you’re on the right side, serve them back
* Know your rights (they hate people that know it, they detest lawyers)
That’s it for the Naija Police for now, if any new events crop up or they develop new characteristics, I’ll keep you posted. I think I should gist you guys about FRSC next, they have descended on my estate and are making life a living hell for the drivers….. | | | | |
