Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Lagos Flood Tragey: Banker & Pregnant Wife Killed |
on: 15-07-2011 07:22 PM
| Mourners have continued to besiege the Gbagada, Lagos home of a banker, Taiwo Abiola Oloruntoba, who together with his pregnant wife, Abosede Adeola, were swept away by the flood that ravaged many parts of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, on Sunday. The casket of the deceased, late Taiwo Oloruntoba during a funeral service this morning at RCCG, City of Refuge Parish, Alagomeji, Yaba. Inset: The couple on their wedding day in August, 2009. PHOTOS: KOLA ALIYU. P.M.NEWS gathered that Taiwo and his wife had gone on a visit after church service and were returning to their Gbagada home when they were swept away by the flood caused by Sunday’s torrential rain. It was learnt further that as the couple approached an area near the canal in Gbagada, passersby were said to have warned them of the danger ahead because the road was heavily flooded, but the warnings were allegedly ignored. P.M.NEWS also gathered that at a point, the wife, who was on the wheels could no longer control the car in which they were riding and in an attempt to allow the husband take over the driving of the car from her, the wife was said to have been swept away, while Taiwo, who could swim, also attempted to save his wife but got stuck in the mud, while the wife was eventually swept away. Family members did not know about what happened to the young couple until the following day. It was the banker’s colleagues at Guaranty Trust Bank, Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way, Ikeja branch, who called to know why Taiwo, who, was a Cash Officer, was holding the key to the bank’s strong room was not in office the following day that led to a search for him. This led to the discovery of his body in the swamp very close to the car. The corpse of the wife was said to have been recovered somewhere around Majidun along Lagos-Ikorodu road. When P.M.NEWS visited the 3C, Olaiya Street, Makoko, Yaba, Lagos residence of Dr. and Mrs. Oloruntoba, the parents of the banker, his father was too devastated to comment on the incident, while the mother was said to have been taken to an undisclosed place. But one of his siblings also called Taiwo, said his brother moved from his Popoola Street, Bariga to his new home just two weeks ago without the knowledge of the family until the incident occurred. According to him, the 33-year old banker was going to be ordained as a parish pastor this Sunday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of Refuge Parish, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos. The remains of Abosede were buried on Tuesday at Atan Cemetery, Yaba, while those of her husband were interred today also at Atan, after a funeral service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of Refuge Parish. Meanwhile, some sympathisers who visited the Gbagada home of the deceased have complained about the buildings constructed near the canal in the area and called on the state government to demolish the structures in order to prevent further loss of lives and property caused by flood as witnessed across the state on Sunday. —Akinloye Adelusi, Moyo Fabiyi & Paul Sanusi | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: Nigerians Cry Out Againt Jonathan's bad Governance |
on: 4-07-2011 09:17 PM
| Everything is now Haram (Forbidden) in Abuja due to Boko Haram threats, I think these guys are achieving their goals. *Nightclubbing - haram *Beer parlours - haram *Drinking joints - haram *Parks & gardens - haram *On-street-parking - haram – after 10pm I think this Boko Haram guys are achieving their dream. This is a report of how the fear of Boko Haram is threatening to change night life in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. It is a season of a long list of forbidden activities after 10pm – including weekends. It had to make tough decisions. The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, acting on intelligence and sound security advice, is toeing the path of caution. Just as it was in the early days after the September,11,2001 destruction of the twin-towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, USA, with stricter security measures put in place at international and local airports across the globe, the FCTA is also acting in a proactive manner. The Boko Haram sect, that reportedly struck a deadly blow at the heart of the nation’s security forces, by setting off a bomb at the Police Force Headquarters, has forced the hands of the FCTA officials to send out a message of precaution. The sect’s name which means banishment or to forbid the enthronement of Western education and culture which has bastardised Islam and the North, thrives on the word haram, which means forbidden. And, for Abuja, where night life is one of the things keeping Nigeria’s capital city alive and kicking, residents would have to re-adjust to current realities. Following the bomb explosion that rocked the Force Headquarters and threat by members of the sect to carry out more attacks, the FCTA, last Tuesday, banned on-the-street parking around the Federal Secretariat. The administration also ordered that all parks and gardens that admit children must close at 6pm daily including weekends. This is just a few in a long list of forbidden engagements in the FCT. Cinema/film centres and disco/night clubs are now forbidden to operate beyond 10pm daily including weekends. Also affected are beer parlours, drinking joints and pool centres. In two statements issued last Tuesday by Muhammad Hazat Sule, the FCTA also declared that it has become forbidden for vehicles to park on the Ahmadu Bello Way, Central District of the Federal Capital City, pointing out that “this is due to the prevailing security situation and the need to ensure safety of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory”. The statement read in part, “To this end, motorists and other road-users are advised to make use of the designated parking lot around the area. Any violator of this ban will be promptly arrested for prosecution and vehicle impounded. “The FCT Administration has announced the immediate review of administration of parks and gardens, cinema/film centre, disco/night clubs and other recreational centres in the Federal Capital Territory. “Henceforth, all operators of the above-mentioned venues of recreation have been directed to adhere to the following time limit for their operations. Parks & gardens that admit children are to close at 6pm daily including weekends. Cinemas/film centres and disco/night clubs are to close at 10pm daily including weekends. Beer parlours/drinking joints and pool centres are to close at 10pm daily including weekends. “Operators of all the above-mentioned centres apart from complying with the directive must put in place adequate security on their premises. The entrance and exit points into such premises must be properly manned. “These measures are necessitated by the need to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory sequel to the prevailing security concerns. Monitoring teams will be going round to ensure strict compliance, please.’’ The police had to quickly make some clarifications regarding the nature and meaning of the fresh measures. This clarification came at a time when some residents were already insinuating that this was a form of curfew. The police authorities insisted that movement around the capital city has not been forbidden beyond 10pm. The police also clarified that it would work to enforce compliance of the new measures as it would go a long way in reducing possible casualties from any bombing attempt by the sect members. Abuja is known for its night life. As early as 5:30 pm every day, parks and drinking joints begin to receive customers who retire first at the joints before going home to rest for the day. Most of the parks operate till the early hours of the following day. The reason for this is largely because a better proportion of middle income earners who work in the capital city reside in satellite towns around Abuja and find it difficult driving straight home after work. Some choose to cool off because of the traffic situation on their way home while others use the parks as recreation points where other further forms of extra-curricular activities take place. There are those who shift business discussions to the joints in the hope and belief that business deals can be wrapped up before the following day’s work. Some even open and go through office files while enjoying their drinks. Fresh fish, roasted chicken, nwkobi (cow leg) and isi-ewu (goat head), snail, beef, bush meat and are all regular delicacies served at the joints and parks. At weekends, some of the joints do not close until about 2am or 3am. Interestingly, the forbidden time of operation which is 10pm is usually the time when the joints begin to witness a surge in patronage from customers. It is at about that time that customers begin to troop in, sometimes in the company of friends – males and females alike. Unfortunately, all these are now haram, after 10pm. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Do you Support Non-Interest (aka Islamic) Banking in Nigeria? |
on: 4-07-2011 08:02 PM
| ....since the new of Islamic banking in Nigeria, I have been wondering what the system is all about. Can someone pls enlighten me and do you support this banking system? Below is the message from CBN Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi Qoute The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Lamido Sanusi, on Monday said the apex bank was not in any way promoting or establishing an Islamic bank in Nigeria. Sanusi made the clarification on Monday in Abuja, at a two-day International Conference on Non-Interest Islamic Banking, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. ”The Central Bank is not promoting or establishing Islamic bank, the Central Bank is simply licensing and regulating an institution that is allowed to exist under the law. ”To the extent that this bank is not allowed to deny anyone the opportunity to be a stakeholder and to the extent that they do not deny anyone to set up his own bank. ”There is absolutely no discrimination. We have to continue making that point, hopefully, people will get to understand with time,’’ he said. He maintained that those who felt that what the apex bank was doing was illegal, should go to the court of law. According to him, the bank will stop the establishment of non-interest Islamic banking if the court says it is illegal. ”But we don’t think the court will say so because we know we are acting within the realm of the law. But it is only the court of law that can make a pronouncement on the legality of anything. ”So if anybody says it is illegal, then he should go to the court of law and let the law pronounce the legality or illegality of it,” he added. Sanusi said non-interest banking had been practiced in about 435 institutions and in about 75 countries in the world. He said with the guidelines in place, Nigeria was set to join the league of other countries to benefit from the non-interest banking. | | |

Forum / Relationships & Romance / Woman's Turn! Jealous Wife Stab's Husband. |
on: 3-07-2011 05:22 AM
| ....tragedy struck again with residents of Bishop Street, Jimeta-Yola, thrown into confusion when a 35-year-old man was stabbed his jealous wife. As a result of the attack the man’s b bowel was rift open. Already, the suspect, a 30-year-old mother of three, identified as Pwaneno, has been picked up by the police. She is currently telling detectives what she knows about the incident.
Sunday Trust gathered that the conflict flustered those who witnessed what happened as they tried to help the victim whose intestines gushed out as a result of the deep stab.
Investigations revealed that the victim, Mr Dominic Daniel Shalda, and his wife got married many years ago and were living peacefully until recently when things began to change when the wife heard that Dominic allegedly took another wife.
A few hours before the incident, they were said to have reconciled and seemed to be living happly. But all hell broke loose as the wife was said to have taken out a knife and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
A close friend of Dominic who doesn’t want his name in print, revealed that, there seemed to have been a crisis in the house over alleged infidelity between the couples particularly when the wife heard that her husband, now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola was planning to marry another wife from his Margi tribe. This situation, according to sources, spurred the jealous wife to take action against her hubby.
Other sources say that after committing the crime, Pwaneno attempted to run away to her relations in a nearby community.
However, neighbours who later found out what had happened, reported the incident to their ward head, who also informed the police.
“I have never seen such a terrible thing in my life,” a shocked neighbour, Mr John Morris, told Sunday Trust.
She was later traced to her hide-out by homicide detectives who arrested and brought her to the state C.I.D where she is being detained.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Altine Daniel, who confirmed the ever increasing rate of love turning sour stories, said the suspect will be charged to court after investigations into the matter have been completed.
While speaking to Sunday Trust on his bed at the Male Surgical Ward, the embattled husband, who was deserted by his relatives due to his persistent love for the woman, said despite the attempted killing by Pwaneno he still loves her.
“I love her with all my heart,” says Dominic. He wants Pwaneno to be set free so as to come to take care of their children as he had abandoned at the hospital.

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigerian Man Arrested In USA For Flying with Stolen Boarding Pass & Expired ID |
on: 1-07-2011 06:20 AM
| A Nigerian American clutching another traveler's expired boarding pass made it through a New York airport federal security checkpoint and boarded a Virgin America jetliner to Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said Thursday. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of airport and airline screening procedures. Days later, Olajide Oluwaseun Noibi tried to board a Delta flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta with another expired pass and was arrested and charged with being a stowaway aboard an aircraft, the FBI said. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. Noibi is expected to appear in a Los Angeles federal courtroom on Friday. Investigators say Noibi, 24, boarded Virgin America Flight 415 at John F. Kennedy International Airport last Friday night. The flight crew didn't realize an extra passenger was onboard until mid-flight when he was spotted sitting in a seat that was supposed to be empty. In an affidavit, FBI Agent Kevin Hogg said flight attendants asked Noibi for a boarding pass and he presented one that was a day old and had someone else's name on it. He also showed a University of Michigan identification card with his picture on it. The crew determined that Noibi's name wasn't on the flight manifest. University of Michigan spokeswoman Kelly Cunningham said Noibi is not a current student but was enrolled as an engineering student at the Ann Arbor university between 2004 and 2006. Eimiller said Noibi is a U.S. citizen who told investigators he lives in Atlanta. The boarding pass used in New York belonged to a man who said his pass went missing from his pocket on his way to the airport on June 23 and was issued a new one at the ticket counter. Noibi is suspected of boarding the plane with the expired pass the next day. Identity checks at airport security checkpoints were put in place as one of many new security measures after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The federal document checkers have basic fraudulent identification training. "Every passenger that passes through security checkpoints is subject to many layers of security including thorough physical screening at the checkpoint," Transportation Security Administration spokesman Greg Soule said. "TSA's review of this matter indicates that the passenger went through screening." TSA would not comment on what else happened, citing an ongoing FBI investigation. Eimiller said the Virgin America flight crew asked law enforcement to meet the plane on arrival early Saturday at Los Angeles International Airport. There was no immediate threat to the aircraft, so the flight wasn't diverted, Eimiller said. Virgin America spokeswoman Patricia Condon said the crew kept Noibi — who slept for much of the flight — under surveillance but at no time felt any threat. Hogg met the flight and detained and questioned Noibi. "He wasn't arrested at that time. Beyond traveling without a ticket there was no immediate threat," Eimiller said. She said agents let Noibi go after he cleared a background check, and they spent the next few days gathering evidence to substantiate allegations that he was traveling on a boarding pass that didn't belong to him. Noibi spent several days in Southern California before returning to the Los Angeles airport and trying to board an early Wednesday flight on Delta Air Lines bound for Atlanta. The FBI said he again presented an expired boarding pass at the departure gate and had no valid identification. When questioned, Noibi acknowledged he did not pay for the Virgin America flight and explained that he traveled to Los Angeles to recruit people for his software business, the affidavit said. He also said he was able to go through security screening Tuesday in Los Angeles by presenting a boarding pass, his student ID and a police report that his U.S. passport had been stolen. However, he spent the night at the gate after not getting on a Tuesday flight to Atlanta. He claims his boarding pass then expired and he was denied access to the Wednesday flight. A search of his bag found 10 expired boarding passes, none of them with his name, authorities said. Noibi was then arrested. Erroll Southers, a security expert and former top official with the Los Angeles Airport Police Department, said it was too early to determine a motive. However, he said he was troubled that 10 other boarding passes allegedly were found. "I'm not quite sure I buy into the theory that he was just flying for free especially when he has 10 other boarding passes in other names in his possession," Southers said. Noibi's actions prove it's possible to breach airport security systems with a flimsy ID and an expired boarding pass, he said. Noibi remained in custody. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Frustrated man cuts off manhood with razor blade |
on: 8-06-2011 07:16 AM
| Mr. Jamiu Sikiru, a middle-aged resident of Ijebu-Ode chops off his penis in a bid to commit suicide, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
A middle-aged man, Mr Jamiu Sikiru, who attempted to commit suicide by cutting off his penis with a razor blade at Ijebu-Ode in Ogun, has regained consciousness.
Sikiru, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on his sick bed at the Ogun State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode yesterday, said frustration made him to carry out the act, explaining that he made several attempts to kill himself, "due to frustration and depression’’.
Sikiru had, on June 3, at the popular Oyingbo Street in the commercial area of the town, cut off his penis with a razor blade in broad daylight. He was later rushed to hospital in a pool of his own blood by sympathisers.
He said: "On my way from Lagos sometime ago, I picked a car borris from the road side in order to use it to poison myself due to frustration, but a friend, who later saw the object, told me that it was not borris that I was holding but rather a bullet.
"It was then I decided to do away with it because I was afraid that I could be arrested if the police found out that I was keeping a bullet.
"On a Friday after the incident, while I was returning from where I went to dispose of the bullet, I saw a police vehicle coming in my direction.
"And I thought it was me they were coming to arrest because of the bullet I went to dispose of. Immediately I saw the police, I decided to commit suicide by cutting my male organ with blade because I don’t want to be arrested.
"That was the last thing I remembered before I woke up in the hospital. What I need now is prayers for forgiveness for attempting to kill myself."
Asked about his family, Sikiru said he lost his parents a few years back.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr Wellington Ogunsanya, said Sikiru would be referred to a psychiatric hospital when he fully regained his strength.
Ogunsanya explained that Sikiru was responding to treatment and that there was a symptom of depression in him.
Ogunsanya said: "I will say he is stable physically but mentally I don’t think he is stable yet. There is symptom of depression in him.
"We are hoping that by the time his wound is healed, we will discharge him to his family and advise him to seek psychiatric evaluation.
"Although we are managing him for his depression by giving him anti-depressant, but he still needs expert evaluation.
The CMD,said that none of Sikiru’s relations had come to visit him.
According to Ogunsanya, hospital workers are assisting Sikiru with money to buy drugs and food.

on: 8-06-2011 07:15 AM
| A 25-year-old Nigerian, Sadiq Adebiyi, has been shot dead outside the Stockwell Gardens Estate, London. Adebiyi was reportedly shot as he stood on the pavement in Clapham Road, near Stockwell Tube Station, on May 31. According to the British Broadcasting Corpora-tion (BBC) report, the police had charged a 19-year-old man, Tadzingwa Gambiza, to court for Adebiyi’s killing and for a fatal ride, by shooting in south London. Gambiza of Vauxhall, South-West London, is now to face murder charge at Camberwell Green Magist-rates’ Court. Barely a week after the killing of Adebiyi, another 18-year-old was shot dead in South London in what was described by Sky News as “an apparent gangland attack.” A Nigerian, Chuka Umunna, who is the Labour Party’s Member of Parliament (MP), repre-senting Streatham, London, areas where the killings occurred, said he had been in “close contact” with the police over the incident. “My condolences go out to his family and friends. This will have rocked them, and the wider community on the estate, to the core,” Umunna said. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / UN Says: "Nigeria is one of the world's worst places to have a baby" |
on: 27-05-2011 05:58 AM
| I found this story on BBC and I was angry as well as surprised! What's your view. "A Nigerian family planning expert has told the BBC it would be difficult to implement the suggestion that Nigerians should only have three children. Isaac Ogo pointed to the tradition of polygamy and the belief that the children were seen as a "gift from God" in a male-dominated society. Recent UN figures suggest Nigeria's population could jump to 730 million by 2100 - behind only India and China. UN special adviser Jeffrey Sachs said this prospect alarmed him. "It is not healthy. Nigeria should work towards attaining a maximum of three children per family," he told the AFP news agency. Mr Ogo, from the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, agrees with the goal but says it will be hard to change the views of many Nigerians. He says Nigeria is a "high birth, high death" society where many people think: "I need to have as much children as I want, as I don't know which will survive." Nigeria is one of the world's worst places to have a baby, according to the UN. About 145 women die each day in pregnancy or childbirth, as do 2,300 children below five years of age. 'Not their business' Mr Ogo also told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme that many women are unable to visit an organisation such as his without their husband's agreement. On the streets of the northern city of Kaduna, some people told the BBC that God decided how many children they had and so it would be wrong to try to limit the number of births. "[The UN] should try to advise the government how to make the lives of Nigerians better, not telling Nigerians not to have children - that is not their business," one angry woman said. But one woman agreed with Mr Sachs, saying that in a poor country such as Nigeria, it was better to have fewer children and look after them properly. Nigeria's population is currently 160m - by far the most populous in Africa but a long way behind those of China and India." source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13530649 | | |

Forum / FunnyHub (Jokes + Comedy) / Are U Ready? The World Ends Today! |
on: 21-05-2011 02:08 AM
| | The End of the World October 21, 2011
The billboards dot roadsides worldwide and a fleet of buses spent months crisscrossing the United States -- all to announce that Judgment Day will occur this Saturday, May 21, with the end of the world following on Oct. 21.
The proposed dates are courtesy of Harold Camping, the eccentric 89-year-old author, radio personality and president of California-based Family Radio. He says the rapture will take place Saturday.
Camping says he derives the May 21 date by starting with God's promise to Noah in Genesis 7:4 to send a flood in seven days. He claims he also calculated the exact day of the biblical flood. He then paired that information with 2 Peter 3:8, which states "with the Lord a day is like a thousand years." Thus, Camping says, the seven days in Genesis 7:4 really signifies 7,000 years, and starting from the first day of the flood, 7,000 years adds up to May 21, 2011.
And as farfetched as those calculations seem, many have bought into Camping's prediction. They do this despite Camping's already poor record for predictions. He previously claimed Judgment Day would occur in September of 1994. When that date passed without incident, he recalculated and eventually settled on the current date. He may do the same after May 21.
My Advice Please stay close to your loved ones today, possibly Indoors, for those unmarried, Please avoid your male/female friends. Say no Evil Do No Evil Today In case the world Ends! No man knows the Hour or Time. |

| over 200 youth corps members that were evacuated by the Lagos State government from the northern part of the country due to election violence have refused to return to their places of primary assignment. The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Tola Kasali said this at the annual ministerial news conference to mark four years in office of the state governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on Wednesday. According to him, the corps members have been reporting at the Lagos State secretariat of the NYSC, vowing not to return to their places of primary assignment in the North. The corps members were flown in from Kano, Bauchi and Jigawa to Lagos, on board Arik Airlines about a month ago, following the killings in the troubled areas. In my Opinion I think they should go back to their respective places of Service else that will be DISOBIDIENCE to Nigerias Authority. Or am I wrong?

The earlier batch of Corps members who spoke at a Press Conference held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa through their spokesperson, Mr Jimoh Nunayon who served in Dala Local Government in Kano, said the timely intervention of Governor Fashola saved them from a looming danger.
While painting a picture of how they all had a close shave with death on the Monday that preceded the Presidential elections, when they were attacked by miscreants who were protesting the Presidential election results, Nunayon said it was providence that saved them from being attacked by the young men who had them in mind.“I just came out from my lodge that Monday morning around 9am to go out, a street before me, I just saw some gang of guys coming, we call them Almajiris, with cutlasses, sticks, they were approaching and shouting as they came, all what I could get from what they were saying because they were speaking Hausa is “Sai Baba, Sai Baba, Sai Baba” they were just coming towards me”“We were asking what was happening, they now said there was riot because of the Presidential elections. That the target of the rioters were the NYSC members because they were the ones that allegedly rigged the elections on behalf of the president, so in the lodge, we gathered all the corps members, there were about 25 of us in that lodge,“They gathered us in a room and we were locked inside.
They must not know that we were inside that room, that if they knew, they could burn all of us inside. Before we knew it, they moved down to the secretariat that was not far away from my lodge and the guys set fire on it immediately, from there, the INEC lodge in Dawa secretariat is just directly opposite the secretariat, they went to the INEC lodge, they broke down everything”, he explained.
He said when all hope seemed lost and the Corps members could not rely solely on the assurance given by the NYSC director that they will be protected, a text message was sent to the Governor of Lagos State who responded swiftly to their SOS.While explaining how the evacuation was executed, the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said immediately the agency received distress calls from Corps members serving in Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states, the permission of the Governor was sought to activate the emergency response plan.
He added that immediately the Governor gave his go ahead, the emergency response plan was activated with LASEMA fine-tuning logistics method to move swiftly, promptly and effectively.Dr Osanyintolu said the evacuation process is on-going as men of LASEMA are on ground strategically in Jigawa, Gombe and Bauchi States while another batch of about 100 corps members are expected in Lagos today.
On whether the National headquarters of NYSC was aware of the evacuation, Dr Osanyintolu said the Lagos State Co-ordinator of the NYSC was informed and is aware of the action of the State Government.Responding to another question on whether the Corps members will still be able to return to the place of their primary assignment, the LASEMA boss said a decision will be taken later based on development in the affected cities.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Hakeem Bello said the State Government is monitoring events closely in all the affected states as the evacuation process is still on-going to ensure that the Corps members are not exposed to undue danger.
Some of the Corps members who attended the briefing were Mr Charles Raphael who was serving with the Aminu Kano Teaching hospital, Kano, Miss Obele Tomisin Sandra who was serving with Queen Amina Group of Schools, Gwammaja, Kano, Mr Oladega Idris Olanrewaju who is having his primary assignment at Fagge Local Government, Kano, Miss Afeire Simiat and Mr Kumapai Sheriff both of whom where serving at Kano State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport in Kano respectively among several others who came out to openly express their gratitude to Governor Fashola for responding promptly to their distress call. Some of the corps members in a Short Message Service (SMS), they sent to Governor Fashola said : “Your Excellency Sir, Thanks for the great things You have done for us.
We, Kano State Corps members are very grateful for what you did for us yesterday. You should be prepared for the gift of God and be ready always for new ones. May He who knows your want grant you your desire.”Another SMS stated: “Daddy, what will I say than to say Thank You, because when I think there is no hope for me, I pray God will surprise you and reward you bountifully in Jesus Name.

on: 1-04-2011 07:28 PM
| Mo'Hits Records' frontline act, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as D'banj, is parting ways with his label of many years. The multiple award winning Hip-Hop artist made this shocking disclosure at a press briefing which took place at La Cachette restaurant, GRA Ikeja, on Thursday, March 31 2011. Speaking at the event which had in attendance the singer and his new management team which also doubles as his record label, Koko Musiq, D'banj said "ladies and gentlemen of the press, after due consideration with my new management team I hereby announce my disengagement from Mo'Hits Records with effect from today. "No doubt I have enjoyed a career boost with the label but unknown to my fans and members of the general public; I have been short-changed at various occasions and defrauded. While I will not want to go into dirty and shocking details of some of the happenstances I would want you all to know that we have agreed to go our different ways amicably." New team While he declined questions posed to him by journalists at the briefing, the singer however directed all enquiries to his new manager, Shola Phillips. Speaking further on the new relationship, Phillips said "We are delighted to have Dbanj on our platform at this stage in his career and ask that you all look out for bigger things to come. As a step in the right direction, you will begin to see a rebranding which will not lose his original identity" Phillips also added that Dbanj's forthcoming album will be released on the new label, KoKo Musiq whilst also adding that talks are in the final stage to work with Rihanna on his forthcoming album. "As some of you may be aware, D'banj's plan to work with Kanye West has been suspended for now since it was handled by his former label. We promise to account for every penny earned and therefore seek your dedicated support." All efforts to speak with former label mates Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Wande Coal, D' Prince, K-Switch was unsuccessful as they referred us to their publicists Sunday Are. When contacted, Are said dismissingly "I am not in a position to speak now. When the time comes I will issue a press release and call for a press conference." The revelation Unconfirmed reports says the fallout between D'Banj and Mo'Hits' boss, Don Jazzy, who was responsible for most of D'Banj's hit tracks, is not unconnected to disagreement on royalty from Mr. Endowed remix featuring American rapper, Snoop Dogg. A source close to the record imprint also said the D'Banj was coerced by his former boss to conduct the now infamous interview with President Goodluck Jonathan." He had a serious argument with Don Jazzy after the interview and stormed out of the studio," the source said. The source also said D'Banj refused to honour subsequent schedules after the argument. Dbanj has enjoyed a successful music career with Mo'Hits Records under which he recorded all four critical and commercially successful albums. Only recently the singer featured American rap star, Snoop Dogg, in the ‘Mr Endowed remix' which was produced by Don Jazzy and the recently conducted interview with President Goodluck Jonathan a few weeks ago. Also worthy of note is the fact that none of his erstwhile label mate including his brother, K Switch, was at the press conference. APRIL FOOL | | | |
