Arsène Wenger’s crusade against “violent football”, like charity, should probably start at home after Cesc Fabregas became the latest Arsenal player to step over the line with a heavy tackle in victory over Wolves.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was gracious in accepting apologies from both Fabregas and Wenger after the player had launched a dangerous, careless lunge on Stephen Ward, for which the Arsenal man was lucky to be only cautioned.
“I thought it was brilliant; he’s been in to apologise and Ward’s accepted it,” said McCarthy, in his own inimitable, no nonsense fashion.
