Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / a tiny Mexican fishing village. |
on: 20-05-2011 09:14 AM
| DON'T MISS READING THIS. TAKE NOTE OF THE LESSON! Thought for the week A boat docked in a tiny Mexican fishing village.
A tourist complimented the local fishermen on the quality of their fish and asked how long it took them to catch the fish.
"Not very long." they answered in unison.
"Why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?"
The fishermen explained that their small catches were sufficient to meet their needs and those of their families.
"But what do you do with the rest of your time?"
"We sleep late, fish a little, play with our children, and take siestas with our wives. In the evenings, we go into the village to see our friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs.
We have a full life."
The tourist interrupted,
"I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."
"And after that?"
"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City , Los Angeles , or even New York City ! [ From there you can direct your huge new enterprise."
"How long would that take?"
"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years." replied the tourist.
"And after that?"
"Afterwards? Well my friend, that's when it gets really interesting, " answered the tourist, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start buying and selling stocks and make millions!"
"Millions? Really? And after that?" asked the fishermen. "After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."
"With all due respect sir, but that's exactly what we are doing now. So what's the point wasting twenty-five years?" asked the Mexicans. And the moral of this story is:
Know where you're going in life.... you may already be there

| One Friday morning, John woke up hurriedly and prepared for work. He worked in a busy institution and was expected early at work. His wife worked a distance from where her husband’s office was. As a result of doing things in a hurry, John unknowingly, carried his wife's mobile phone leaving behind his own. After he had gone his wife Jane noticed the mix-up but it was too late for her to do anything about it. She thought for a while and decided to carry her husband's phone in case he came back for it. On arriving at his place of work John noticed that he had confused his wife's phone for his but decided not to go back for it. He sighed deeply because he knew his wife could access romantic messages sent by his many mistresses. His wife too was disgusted because she had several toy boys. Drama began to unfold when John received an SMS intended for his wife sent by somebody saved as ‘Peter-Taxi’, which read, "Hi sweetie, ope yo monin’ is fine, 4 me am okay just mad! My love 4 you kills me. I couldn't stop dreaming about you even after we met last evening coz you hold the password to ma heart." John was shocked to see this and thought he understood why his wife had come home late the previous evening. He decided to stay mum to see what more would come. After one hour he received another SMS from somebody saved as ‘Susan-Salon’ which read, “Monin darling, ope ur fine, am also fine but not so fine without seeing you next to me coz you control every part of ma heart. Nice day sweetie, see you at lunch.” The third SMS ticked in from somebody saved as ‘Winnie-Handbags’ which read, "Monin ma beautiful queen, I wish you were a gum, I would chew you every time, you make me feel young like I was born yesterday, you without whom I would go on a hunger strike. Have a bright day ma dear." John was deeply shocked by these messages but knew that on the other side his wife might be seeing drama too. Meanwhile, Jane had seen even more than her husband. She had received three messages from three women that clearly showed they were his mistresses. The first SMS was from a woman saved as ‘Ochieng-Car wash’ which read, “Hi deah how's ur monin? 4 me am okay with ur son here, he says he loves you so much n you should come n stay with us. gday." Jane almost fainted on seeing this because she could not believe that her husband had a son outside marriage. Before her anger was over, she received a second SMS from' ‘Omosh-Kinyozi’ which read, “Monin ma deah, ope ur enjoyin ur day. Mine can't be complete without you. Every time I sleep in this house you bought 4 me I dream 2 love u always. The BM u bought me is perfect on road. Thanks, g’day.” The last message came from ‘Karanja-Electician’ and read, “Sasa honey? Ope uko poa, mimi niko fiti hapa campo, lakini nikumiss sana . But honey kuna doh tunadaiwa za project 40k, nita come unishow vile tutalipa. Nice day love you big.” Jane had found the answer to why her husband was always penniless! When evening came John and Jane met at home. They could hardly talk but only stared at one another with suspicion. Then they called you to intervene, sincerely how would you solve that?

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Military arrests 150 suspects, loses soldiers in clash with Boko Haram |
on: 19-05-2011 03:45 PM
| THE Joint Military and Police Task Force deployed to check the serial attacks and killings in Borno State has confirmed that some soldiers and civilians were killed during last Sunday’s clash with members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in Gwange ward.
The area is suspected to be the stronghold of the armed group, which has killed several residents, security personnel and traditional rulers.
An undisclosed number of soldiers and three residents were feared killed in the cross fire between men of the Task Force and those of the Boko Haram.
Spokesman of the 21 Armoured Brigade, Lt. Abdullahi Muhammad, who confirmed the clash on Tuesday, was however not categorical on the casualty figures.
The state Deputy Police Commissioner, Usman Baba, also confirmed the murder of police corporal on Tuesday by two suspected Boko Haram gunmen after they ambushed him at a mosque at 7.30 p.m. in Dala Alenderi ward of Maiduguri metropolis.
Parading the suspects before reporters at the police headquarters yesterday, he said: “These four suspects were arrested after giving them a hot chase by the Joint Military/Police Task Force to their hideouts, where a Kalashnikov rifle and the motorcycle used in killing one of our men and officers that lives in Dala Alenderi ward.”
Muhammad said: “Our patrol teams were on a routine surveillance of the various wards in the Maiduguri metropolis at 8 p.m. on Sunday, when a gang of suspected Boko Haram armed sect ambushed us; and a gun battle ensued for over 30 minutes.”
He added that some of the soldiers and residents caught up in the cross fire died on the spot and the injured rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Muhammad said the task force had condoned off the stronghold of the group and arrested many people suspected to be Boko Haram members in Budum, Galadima, London Chiki wards of Maiduguri. He added that the Task Force had also identified the red spots where the sect had been launching attacks and killing policemen, soldiers, traditional and religious leaders since July, 2010.
On the death toll in Sunday’s clash, the Army spokesman said: “Yes, the gunmen had actually ambushed a convoy of our patrol vehicles, which resulted in exchange of gunshots. I cannot talk to you about dead soldiers or residents now and the people that sustained injuries, but we have arrested many people who are being investigated. As I am talking to you now, our superiors are in a meeting and we would give you details later.”
When The Guardian visited the Brigade in Maiduguri, 150 people arrested during the raid seen in the premises.
“We are sieving them to ascertain their culpability or otherwise. Those that were not found suspicious would be released. I want to appeal to the people to fully cooperate with us,” Muhammad said.
Meanwhile, residents of the metropolis have expressed dismay over the new security measures introduced by the military, which include the ransacking of houses and arresting the occupants without warrant as well as directing people, including women and the elderly to raise up their hands while searching for arms and ammunition in the sect’s hideouts and strongholds.
“The manner they (JTF) are approaching the issue is unacceptable. How can a male soldier or policeman compel a married woman to remove her hijab on the main road on the pretence that she is being searched?” Halima Musa, 46, a mother of six complained on the alleged harassment of residents in their houses and 35 check points mounted by the military. | | |
