Lagos — General overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday, charged Nigerians aspiring to leadership positions to imbibe the spirit of service to succeed.

Adeboye, a former senior lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos, also expressed his unalloyed passion for the education sector, when he announced N50 million endowment of a Professorial Chair in Mathematics for his alma matter, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

This brings to three the number of universities that have received such largesse from the RCCG stable, after the University of Lagos in 2009 and the University of Ibadan last year.

Speaking at a special programme, entitled: EXCELL 2011, an initiative of the Apapa Family, a group of churches within RCCG, at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, Pastor Adeboye with his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, in tow, emphasised that the secret to leadership is to serve.

Drawing inspiration from several Bible passages, and citing several biblical characters including Joseph, Elisha, Joshua and others, the pastor, who spoke on the theme; 'Leading change: Impact through service', urged Nigerians to emulate such biblical characters who devoted essential part of their lives serving humanity and eventually God promoted them above their peers.

According to him, "the purpose of God's blessing is not for you to acquire things for yourself, but it is for you to bless others who are less-privileged. Let's, therefore, do it with utmost humility because there is no human being that is too poor to serve others just as there is no human being too big to serve others."

Adeboye outlined two reasons why people must learn to serve humanity, saying that the one you help today may just be the one who will help you tomorrow; and two, you will not miss your reward before you die.

Receiving a cheque for the endowment, Prof. Emeka Polycarp, who represented the Vice- Chancellor of UNN on the occasion, expressed delight to Adeboye, RCCG and the Apapa Family for the kind gesture, promising to judiciously use the money for the set objective.

"We will do all we can to employ a professor in Applied Mathematics to manage the fund. The chair, as everybody knows, will go a long way to enhance the teaching of mathematics in the foremost university," he pledged.

In another development, Adeboye, yesterday, urged practitioners in the Nigerian entertainment industry to shun evil and embrace God's supernatural power which, he said, is the only power that can pave the way to ultimate success in the booming industry.
Adeboye, who just returned from an evangelical mission to Uganda, Ethiopia and some other African countries, gave the charge in a sermon, entitled; "Success in life requires something supernatural," at the church headquarters in Ebute-Meta while praying with practitioners in the industry.

He explained that talent and hard work alone were not enough for one to succeed in life, pointing out that one requires extraordinary power and wisdom from God.

The special programme was organised as part a monthly-initiative for special sectors of the economy. It was attended by, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, Wale Adenuga, Segun Arinze, Jide Kosoko, Rachael Oniga among hundreds of others.
