67  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Obasanjo killer squad & corruptions exposed. ( video)ugly as his heart. on: 21-04-2013 06:44 PM
A former associate of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr. Richard Odusanya, on Saturday alleged that the former chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees was in charge of a killer squad that was formed under the military regime of late Gen. Sani Abacha.

Odusanya reportedly worked behind the scenes when Obasanjo was in power.

In a live interview, with an online news portal, Sahara Reporters, Odusanya  alleged that the former President lodged the killer squad at a State Security Service headquarters, known as ‘Yellow House.’

He appeared on the programme alongside Mr. Segun  Seriki, a PDP member in Ogun State and a member of the House of Representatives in the Third Republic, under the Social Democratic Party.

According to Odusanya, the squad was used for political assassinations and was responsible for the unresolved killings of politicians under Obasanjo’s administration.

He further alleged that Obasanjo knew about the murder of the former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige, and a South-South politician, Chief Harry Marshall.

Odusanya said, “I believe that a killer squad created during the Abacha regime was kept by Obasanjo and housed at SSS headquarters, known as Yellow House, and was used for political assassinations.”

Explaining Obasanjo’s alleged link with Ige’s death, Odusanya said, “The night Chief Bola Ige was assassinated, a top PDP member confided in me that Obasanjo told him Bola Ige was down.”

Concerning the murder of  Marshall, he said, “I also took a gift to Marshall and he was assassinated just a few weeks later.”

Odusanya also alleged that the ex-president benefitted from an account with the defunct Trans-International Bank and that from the funds in the account,  Obasanjo,  asked him to deliver a Peugeot 607 and the sum of N500,000 to  a woman (name withheld).

When contacted for Obasanjo’s comments, his Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor Durodola, said his boss was not available to react to the allegations.

He challenged those who made the allegations to come out with their evidence.

Durodola said, “The former president is not available. Therefore, he is not in a position to respond to the allegations.  However, my personal comment is that these are people who indulge in blackmail.

“Why are they using online television? They should come to Channels, AIT, or NTA; these are television stations that are known.

“Definitely, that is not Obasanjo’s character they are describing and everybody knows that. Of all the military rulers, the issue of killer squad cannot be attributed to him. That was not his style. He is not around now but I doubt if he would even give it any attention whatsoever.

He stressed that the ex-president could not have been responsible for the unresolved killings under his administration.

He further argued that Obasanjo had no reason to be involved in Ige’s assassination.

“We would like to see it (the interview) but these are issues you know cannot be possible. The killings were unresolved, yes, but you know that nobody could have attributed that to him. He would kill his minister for what? So that he (Obasanjo) could be minister?” Durodola said.

Another Obasanjo aide, Vitalis Ortese, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that the allegation was a non-issue.

He said, “I don’t know them. Let them prove the allegation. I don’t know any Segun Seriki or Richard Odusanya.”

Also reacting to the allegations, Bola Ige’s eldest child, Mrs. Funsho Adegbola, told SUNDAY PUNCH that her father’s killers are still alive.

Adegbola, a lawyer, called for the reopening of the Bola Ige murder case.

She said, “I can’t put anything past them. I haven’t seen the interview. I don’t know the content of the report but I can’t put anything past them. I believe the people who killed my father – the foot soldiers and the people who sent them – are alive. They are not people from Mars.

“A murder case can go on for 30 years or more. If there is political will and the government wants to show that people should pay for their crimes, this can be done. The family can’t do anything about it because it is the state versus the suspects. The family can’t sue; it is the state that can take action.”

Ige, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was shot dead in his Ibadan home on December 23, 2001.

Following a mass protest over the killing, the Federal Government had deployed troops in the South-Western state to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

While security agencies had arrested some suspects allegedly involved in the murder, including the then deputy governor of Osun State – Ige’s home state – Mr. Iyiola Omisore, they were however discharged and acquitted.

Just like Ige, Marshall Harry, who was the National Coordinator, South-South geopolitical zone of the All Nigerian Peoples Party Presidential Campaign was murdered by at his  No,28 Karaye Close, Garki II, Abuja residence on March 5, 2003, barely a month to the presidential election in which Obasanjo was re-elected.

The ANPP chieftain was said to have been killed in the presence of his daughter and his niece, Loliya Harry.

The only security guard in the house, Mr. Polini Aniya, said the assailants numbering about five forced their way into the ANPP chieftain’s residence around 3am.

The ANPP, and it presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, had insisted that agents of the PDP and Federal Government assassinated Harry.

At Harry’s burial ceremony, Buhari, alleged that in its desperation to rig itself into power, the PDP-controlled Federal Government bankrolled assassins to eliminate political opponents.

After the incident, the police arrested four suspects in connection with the murder.

However, after seven years in detention, the accused standing trial for the murder were discharged and acquitted by an Abuja High Court.

The court cited lack of enough evidence to sustain the charge against the

73  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / The Secret of the Seven Sisters that formed a cartel controls the world`s oil on: 18-04-2013 07:12 AM
On August 28, 1928, in the Scottish highlands, began the secret story of oil.

Three men had an appointment at Achnacarry Castle - a Dutchman, an American and an Englishman.

The Dutchman was Henry Deterding, a man nicknamed the Napoleon of Oil, having exploited a find in Sumatra. He joined forces with a rich ship owner and painted Shell salesman and together the two men founded Royal Dutch Shell.

The American was Walter C. Teagle and he represents the Standard Oil Company, founded by John D. Rockefeller at the age of 31 - the future Exxon. Oil wells, transport, refining and distribution of oil - everything is controlled by Standard oil.

The Englishman, Sir John Cadman, was the director of the Anglo-Persian oil Company, soon to become BP. On the initiative of a young Winston Churchill, the British government had taken a stake in BP and the Royal Navy switched its fuel from coal to oil. With fuel-hungry ships, planes and tanks, oil became "the blood of every battle".

The new automobile industry was developing fast, and the Ford T was selling by the million. The world was thirsty for oil, and companies were waging a merciless contest but the competition was making the market unstable.

That August night, the three men decided to stop fighting and to start sharing out the world's oil. Their vision was that production zones, transport costs, sales prices - everything would be agreed and shared. And so began a great cartel, whose purpose was to dominate the world, by controlling its oil.

Four others soon joined them, and they came to be known as the Seven Sisters -  - the biggest oil companies in the world.
Episode 1 - Desert Storms

In the first episode, we travel across the Middle East, through both time and space.

"We waged the Iran-Iraq war and I say we waged it, because one country had to be used to destroy the other. As they already benefit from the oil bonanza, and they’re building up financal reserves, from time to time they have to be bled."

- Xavier Houzel, an Oil trader

Throughout the region's modern history, since the discovery of oil, the Seven Sisters have sought to control the balance of power.

They have supported monarchies in Iran and Saudi Arabia, opposed the creation of OPEC, profiting from the Iran-Iraq war, leading to the ultimate destruction of Saddam Hussein and Iraq.

The Seven Sisters were always present, and almost always came out on top.

Since that notorious meeting at Achnacarry Castle on August 28, 1928, they have never ceased to plot, to plan and to scheme.
Episode 2 – The Black El Dorado

At the end of the 1960s, the Seven Sisters, the major oil companies, controlled 85 percent of the world's oil reserves. Today, they control just 10 percent.

New hunting grounds are therefore required, and the Sisters have turned their gaze towards Africa. With peak oil, wars in the Middle East, and the rise in crude prices, Africa is the oil companies' new battleground.

"Everybody thought there could be oil in Sudan but nobody knew anything. It was revealed through exploration by the American company Chevron, towards the end of the 70s. And that was the beginning of the second civil war, which went on until 2002. It lasted for 19 years and cost a million and a half lives and the oil business was at the heart of it."

- Gerard Prunier, a historian

But the real story, the secret story of oil, begins far from Africa.

In their bid to dominate Africa, the Sisters installed a king in Libya, a dictator in Gabon, fought the nationalisation of oil resources in Algeria, and through corruption, war and assassinations, brought Nigeria to its knees.

Oil may be flowing into the holds of huge tankers, but in Lagos, petrol shortages are chronic.

The country's four refineries are obsolete and the continent's main oil exporter is forced to import refined petrol - a paradox that reaps fortunes for a handful of oil companies.

Encouraged by the companies, corruption has become a system of government - some $50bn are estimated to have 'disappeared' out of the $350bn received since independence.

But new players have now joined the great oil game.

China, with its growing appetite for energy, has found new friends in Sudan, and the Chinese builders have moved in. Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir is proud of his co-operation with China - a dam on the Nile, roads, and stadiums.

In order to export 500,000 barrels of oil a day from the oil fields in the South - China financed and built the Heglig pipeline connected to Port Sudan - now South Sudan's precious oil is shipped through North Sudan to Chinese ports.

In a bid to secure oil supplies out of Libya, the US, the UK and the Seven Sisters made peace with the once shunned Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, until he was killed during the Libyan uprising of 2011, but the flow of Libyan oil remains uninterrupted.

In need of funds for rebuilding, Libya is now back to pumping more than a million barrels of oil per day. And the Sisters are happy to oblig

74  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING--Large explosion hits Texas,USA.again on: 18-04-2013 06:53 AM
An explosion has ripped through a fertilizer plant near Waco in Texas and damaged or destroyed numerous buildings including a school and nursing home, and killing at least two people and injuring more than 100, authorities have said.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said on Thursday an unknown number of people were killed in the massive explosion that has likely left more than 100 people injured and at least 50-75 houses damaged.

Dean Wilson said it will be some time before authorities know the full extent of the loss of life and damage caused by Wednesday night's blast at the plant in West, about 30km north of Waco.

He said all the wounded have been taken to hospital and search is on for more people, but declined to confirm the number of casualties.

The blast was reported at about 8pm local time (01:00 GMT on Thursday) in West, about 130km south of city of Dallas. A dispatcher with Texas Fire Department said the explosion happened on Wednesday night.

Tommy Muska, West's mayor, said buildings in a five-block radius from the plant were severely damaged by the explosion.

More than 100 people were being taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, about 30km from the accident site, said vice president of hospital operations David Argueta.

A senior official said the nursing home and much of the centre of town had been evacuated, and that residences near the explosion had been leveled.

The air in town remained thick with smoke more than two hours after the explosion, and the area around the blast site was littered with shards of wood, bricks and glass.

Governor Rick Perry issued a statement saying his office had "mobilised state resources to help local authorities" deal with the incident.

"We are monitoring developments and gathering information as details continue to emerge about this incident,'' the statement said.

A White House official said the Obama administration was aware of the situation and monitoring local and state response through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Gayle Scarbrough, a spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety in Waco, told television station KWTX that DPS troopers have been transporting the injured to hospitals in their patrol cars.

She said six helicopters were also en route.

76  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Breaking--Deadly explosions hit US city of Boston on: 15-04-2013 11:07 PM
Police say that an explosion hit the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston after other blasts in the city near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that left two dead and many injured.

Police officials say mobile phone service have been shut down in the Boston area to prevent any potential remote detonations of explosives.

Authorities said at two bombs simultaneously struck the Boston Marathon as runners crossed the finish line just before 3pm on Monday. They said two people were dead and at least 23 injured, with six critically wounded in the blasts.

The  Boston Globe  reported that more than 100 people had been treated at hospitals.

A third incident occurred at the John F. Kennedy Library several miles away more than an hour later, but no injuries were reported. There were conflicting reports as to whether there had been an explosion or a mechanical fire at the library.

A senior US intelligence official said two more explosive devices had been found near the scene of the explosions and were being dismantled. Separately, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a no-fly zone over the site.

A Rhode Island state police officer, who was running in the event, said he saw at least two dozen people with very serious injuries, including missing limbs.

Injured spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

The stragglers in the 40km trek were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts, as a Massachusetts General Hospital spokesperson said it had four patients from the incident under evaluation and was expecting more.

White House cordon

A Washington police spokesman told Reuters news agency the area in front of the White House was cordoned off with tape after news of the explosions broke.

The White House said President Barack Obama had been notified about the incident and directed his administration to provide whatever assistance necessary for the investigation.

The explosion occurred about three hours after the winners crossed the line as thousands of runners finished the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, with crowds watching and cheering at the finish.

Competitors and race organisers were crying as they fled the chaos . Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

"There are a lot of people down,'' said one man, whose bib no 17528 identified him as Frank Deruyter.

He was not injured, but marathon workers were carrying one woman, who did not appear to be a runner, to the medical area as blood gushed from her leg.

A Boston police officer was wheeled from the course with a leg injury that was bleeding.

Neither race officials nor public officials could immediately estimate the number or degree of injuries, but the Boston Globe newspaper reported that at least 12 people were injured.

Laura McLean, a runner from Toronto, Canada, said she heard two explosions outside the medical tent.

"There are people who are really, really bloody,'' McLean said. "They were pulling them into the medical tent.''

Loud explosion

About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boston's Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line.

Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

Smoke rose from the blasts, fluttering through the national flags lining the route of the world's oldest and most prestigious marathon.

TV helicopter footage showed blood staining the pavement in the popular shopping and tourist area known as the Back Bay.

Runners who had not finished the race were diverted straight down Commonwealth Avenue and into a family meeting area, according to an emergency plan that had been in place.

79  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Breaking.-Customs arrest passenger with $540,000 at Lagos airport on: 4-04-2013 07:15 PM
Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the Nigerian Customs Service on Tuesday arrested an intending passenger with $540,000 at the Lagos Airport.

The passenger, Mr. Apampa Adeshina, who was to board an Emirates Airlines plane to Dubai, was arrested for failing to declare the actual amount with him, a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mrs. Thelma Williams, said

The Customs spokesperson said the passenger also failed to disclose to relevant government agencies of the source of the money he was travelling with.

According to her, Adeshina was accosted at the currency declaration desk of the agency at the airport.

Last month, operatives of Customs at MMIA arrested a passenger, who was on his way to Kenya, with $1.1m.

The statement quoted the Customs Area Comptroller, MMIA, Mr. Charles Edike, as identifying the passenger as Professor Ofoegbu  Ononuju.

Ononuju claimed to be the director of an oil firm.  The professor with passport registration number A04008969 claimed that he was travelling with such a huge amount of money to solve a dispute with a Kenya community over oil blocks.

The statement quoted the CAC as saying, “the passenger declared the currency both on forms CDF1A and CDF1B, but claimed he was travelling with Kenya Airways flight number QR542 to Kenya, to solve dispute with Kenya community over oil blocks”

The comptroller noted that the passenger and the currency had been handed over to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation.

In 2012, the command intercepted over $12.1m from 14 persons, who tried to smuggle money out of the country, according to the statement.

In November, it arrested a passenger on his way to Qatar with over $320,000. The passenger,  identified as Onwuekwe  Chidi, could not explain the source of the currency as well as show adequate proof of his business to Customs officials.

According to the statement, the passenger and the money had been handed over to officials of EFCC  for further investigations.
