This report hasn't told us what we do not know, per se,rather, it underscores the fact that sex is increasingly becoming a "medium of exchange"; a sort of master key: capable of opening just any door, in our society. In our institutions of high learning grade could be bought with sex.At places of work, employment could be bought with sex, promotion could be influenced by or paid for with sex...one can go on and on. prostitution has so  perneated every area of our society  that it has  almost come to be looked at as something very normal and an acceptable way of life.I know of ladies who saw themselves through university single-handedly,working as prostitutes. Our society is going through a rapid social break down, and one of the sadening manifestions is the inabilty or failure of parents to exercise control over their children.Apperently, some of these kids go into prostitution with the full consent and permission of their parents as their means of livelihood.Otherwise, how does one explain a "baby girl" staying out late into the night; or even sleeping out, and emerging the next day with large sum of money or material possessions her parents have not provided  her, and they will not "kill" her?
Ours is a society that pays so much regards to result rather than process:it really doesn't matter, but who cares about what anyone has done to "make it"?It is a common knowledge that most of the girls who are into sex trade are motivated by nothing other than the desire for material possession: designers' trends.
Sex trade is not a vice perculiar to Nigeria, but one major difference is that having sex with a minor, male or female, is a penal offence elsewhere in the world;even if it takes place in a private context. But in other lawless and rowdy societies like Nigeria, even security agents buy the young body of these little children, without a prick of the conscience.Ours is indeed a society that is downhill-bound in more ways than one.
