The activities of kidnappers, robbers and cultists continued to take its toll on residents of Delta State on Wednesday as medical doctors, university lecturers and oil workers embarked on strike.

The action of the doctors, lecturers and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, followed the abduction of their members at various locations in the state.

The doctors are demanding the release of their colleague, Dr. Ngozi Chukwuebulim, attached to Warri Central Hospital, who was kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday, while the oil workers are asking for the release of the Warri Area Manager of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, Mr. Williams Enoh, who was kidnapped on Saturday.

A soldier attached to the Joint Task Force, who was serving as a guard to the PPMC manager was shot dead in the operation.

Already, the strike has resulted in the shutting down of filling stations in Warri.

Members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers in Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company, and Warri Area Office of PPMC have also withdrawn their services.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists is also planning a protest against the general insecurity in the state, especially the abduction of a journalist, Mr. Monday Whiskey, last week.

The Warri Central Hospital has also been shut down, while it was gathered that the kidnappers of the doctor are demanding N100m before releasing her.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly , Mr. Victor Ochei, was conspicuously absent at yesterday’s session of the House which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Basil Ganagana.

The Speaker, it was gathered, was still battling to make contacts with the abductors of his younger brother, Tobechukwu, on Tuesday in Asaba.

But the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Eddy Akpati-Ogude, said the speaker went for another ‘’official assignment’’ and asked the deputy to preside for him.

Don't mind them, they are fast to take action over issues that concerns them, but when it gets to issues concerning civilians then the only thing they will tell us is that they are on top of the situation

@ Poster What are they protesting? Why is petrol more important to Nigerians than the unwarranted killing of innocent citizens and destruction of property by BOKO HARAMIST and their sponsors? Why can't Nigerians come out en mass and demonstrate against this? Why is petrol more important than lives? removal of fuel subsidy will not kill or destroy peoples property. Accepted that the impact will be felt at the initial stage, but in the long run, most Nigerians will also learn to be prudent, inventive and prioritise.
NLC should call for protest against the killings in Nigeria, fat salaries for politicians, lack of electricity, good roads, clean water etc. After all, the masses of Nigeria are not directly benefiting from the fuel subsidy but the sponsors of BOKO HARAM, the rogue politicians and their business partners.
Nigerians, please let us be realistic, petroleum subsidy may make life a bit harsher but it is not killing anyone (except the foolish) as much as the BOKO HARAMIST are destroying the country, innocent lives and properties ALL FOR NO JUSTIFYABLE REASONS! Well, what do we do when the oil finally dries out? 

What make you think the removal of fuel subsidy will not kill? or dont you know that with subsidy removed, then lots of small scale business might begin to shut down due to lack of of money to buy fuel that will be used to power their generators, does it occur to you that removing fuel subsidy without electricity is like trying to commit mass murder?, or does it occur to you that the subsidy is the only advantage that a common Nigerian gains from this nation.
although i understand your point concerning the security alert we were having before the subsidy is removed but protesting to that is not the solution to that cos i have never seen where a protest is being held against terrorist cos the boko boys you are talking about are terrorist

The only solution is to go for their sponsors, who are well know to uncle jona but he is either afraid, or not willing to hlp. Rather they(His administrators) are busy combating nonexistent and imaginary Cabals   who they know and are even part of them.

My advice, tell uncle jona to stop playing politics with the lives of his citizens, and do what is necessary. Cos even his LGA Emergency declaration can not help but worsen matters more and more.

But on a serious note these Guys are giving me a lot of night mares, and real terrible imaginations, But instead of our Governments to seriously takle them, they are busy debating fuel subsidy  and they even have the guts to use thid subsidy of a thing as a new year gift to we Nigerians.
With the way things are happening meen i can smell real trouble, and nothing but trouble but i hope it does not happen
