In the past week, Ethiopians all over the world have watched the barbaric acts committed against our sisters and brothers in Saudi Arabia with deep sorrow and outrage. These inhuman acts are not committed by illegal bandits or criminals operating in the underground, they are committed in broad daylight by the Saudi security forces and government backed youth vigilante. Defenseless Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia continue to face random killings, gang rape, severe beatings, and mass arrest by brutal government forces and government supported mobs.
 
There are an array of irrefutable evidences of the Saudi government’s brutality, utter disregard for the rule of law, and common human decency. Video images and eye-witness testimonies confirm Saudi Arabians have employed extensive use of torture. These acts of gross human and civil rights violations call for an investigation by the United Nations and International rights groups’ into the full extent of the horrific crime committed by the Saudis.

In an frightening line of research on solar cells, scientists are examining the connection between melanin (skin pigmentation) and solar cell development.  Of course, it’s all clouded in jargon and officialese,  but the basic idea is this: the creation of a melanin-based solar cell. This means that the skin of African-Americans and black fetuses could be used as an element in solar cells.
 
According to a research paper:
we suggest that a class of  biological macromolecules called the melanins may be suitable replacements for the ruthenium complexes. They have strong, broad band absorption, are chemically and photochemically very stable, can be cheaply and easily synthesized, and are also bio-available and bio-compatible. When people talk about genocides and holocausts, they don’t usually talk much about people with dark skin.  Instead, they discuss the horrible things that happened to Jews during World War II, and other atrocities that have happened around the world.  When they discuss history in your child’s school, they don’t usually mention much of anything about Africa.  In the world in which your child is being taught, nearly everything decent, good and productive was done by a white man.

Well, one historical figure who has earned every bit of a Hitler-like status is King Leopold II of Belgium.  Leopold is largely considered responsible for the murders of between 8 and 10 million Africans during his occupation of the Congo between 1885 and 1908.  Liam Oceallaigh does a wonderful job of explaining Leopold’s “contributions” to history and why we are not likely to learn about him in school.  According to Ocealliagh:
