62  Forum / The Buzz Central / My Mum Didn't Support My Marriage To Alec Godwin – Kefee on: 22-06-2012 11:31PM
The saying that what an elder sees while sitting on a chair, a child, even if they climb to the tallest mountain, would never see it, aptly sums up Ejirooghene Obareki, the mother of Branama Queen, Kefee Don Momoh’s non-support for her daughter’s first marriage to producer, Alec Godwin.

Following her bitter divorce and fallout from ex husband

Speaking in the episode of the Supermom Celebrity edition which would be aired this weekend, Kefee recalls that contrary to her expectations, her mum, whom she had enjoyed a robust relationship with from infancy, demurred when she informed her about her choice of husband.

“She was not in support of the marriage from the outset but because she wanted me to be happy, she consented grudgingly,” Kefee says.

As time went by, Kefee’s mum’s fears came to pass as the marriage broke down irretrievably. On her return home, and much to her consternation, “My mum welcomed me with open arms and encouraged me to see what happened as a part of life.

She also urged me to go back to Lagos and focus on my career so that I could be a bigger and more respected star. If not for her encouragement and support, I can’t say what would have become of my career,” Kefee says.

In her recollection of the trials and tribulations of the past, which have combined to make Kefee a strong personality and a musical force, the older Obareki recalls that she went through a lot raising the singer and her other kids.

According to the matriarch, Kefee almost lost her life years back while growing up. As a devoted Christian, the family was to fast every Friday. Then, one day, Kefee slumped and was unconscious for six days.

Considering that she had lost a child before, Obareki couldn’t bear the pain of losing another one, and not Kefee. “I would roll on the ground, crying and praying that God should restore my child to good health,” she recalls. Obareki’s story is touching, and she did not mince words telling it all on the Supermom Celebrity show.

Paired with Kefee’s mom in this week’s episode is Cecilia Awotoye, the mother of one of Nigeria’s hip hop pioneers, Tony Tetuila, who tells the heart-rending story of how she succeeded in raising her children, especially Tetuila, against all odds.

According to her, although things had been tough generally for the family, the worst of her ordeals started when she noticed a lump growing on Tetuila’s chest. “I cried every time I looked at him. I prayed endlessly to God to spare his life and I didn’t give up hope.”

As any caring mother would, she took him to the places she could afford but no remedy came through until she visited the General Hospital in Ojuelegba, Lagos. There, he was operated on. But her ordeal was not over.

Months later, just when she was beginning to rejoice at his recovery, she realised the kid who would later become Africa’s music golden son couldn’t walk. “We started visiting hospitals again and every time a doctor said my son would never walk, I prayed and cried to God.

I never stopped telling them that my son would walk again! There was one day I was returning to the hospital and I had to trek all the way with him on my back because there was no means of transportation; former Head of State, Mohammed Murtala had just died and there was a bit of unrest in the country then.”
63  Forum / Politics / Breaking News: President Jonathan sacks security and defence chiefs on: 22-06-2012 11:13PM
The news fast making this headlines now is that Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has finally sacked the national security adviser, General Andrew Owoeye Azazi (retd). He has been replaced by Col. Sambo Dasuki, also a retired military man.Unlike Azazi who hails from the South-South, Dasuki's profile shows he is from the Sokoto caliphate. It is widely believed that he would use his influence in the northern part to solve the escalating rate of terror in the north.

Also sacked alongside Mr.Azazi, according to reports are, minister of defense,Haliru Mohammed. We also heard that the Chief of Defense staff, Air Mashall Oluseyi Pentrin.

The security chiefs were relieved for obvious reasons-inability to find solutions to the escalating problems of Boko Haram bombings and violence in major parts of northern Nigeria

Funke Akindele-Oloyede and her hubby walked down the isle few weeks back. Friends and family were well represented for the occasion and the couple reveled in the joy of the moment.

But hours after the wedding, plans were rife to commercialize the entire vent replicatory of what Mercy Johnson and Chinedu Ikedieze did for their respective wedding; make DVD for fans, and it surely was a good plan.

As at the beginning of Thursday June 21st, their WEDDING special edition has sold over 30,000 copies , with sales showing no sign of abating any time soon.

It sure has been a dual success thus far for the couple; getting happily married and achieving commercial gain as a result.

74  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / WTF: A 26 Years Old Nigerian Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Stealing N1,705 on: 21-06-2012 06:46PM
This is unbelievable but it has happened LIVE in our country, Nigeria. A Jos High Court on Thursday, 21 June 2012, sentenced a 26-year-old man, Obinah John, to death by hanging for stealing the sum of One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Five Naira ( N1,705) cash from one Dorothy Olaniyi.

We gathered that Obinah, now on death row, was also accused of of stealing two rolls of peak milk sachets, valued at N400 from the same Dorothy.

The prosecution counsel, Mr G.D. Fwonyon, who is the deputy director, Public Prosecution in Plateau State had told the court that Obinah, in company with an accomplice identified as John, now at large, robbed the Dorothy on November 18, 2005 in her shop at Gada Biu, Jos, at gunpoint.

The Public Prosecutor told the judge point-blank that since Obinah used a gun to rob Olaniyi, he had committed a criminal offence punishable with death by hanging.

We gathered that Obinah's counsel, Mr. Tobechukwu Kekemeke tried all he could to convince the judge otherwise, but his pleas fell on deaf ears. He was said to have accused the police of “not telling the truth about the gun” said to have been used by Obinah.

Mr. Kekemeke pointed out that the police presented three statements, with only the last indicating a confession by the accused that he used a gun against the victim. He further argued that the prosecution had failed to prove to the court that the accused actually used a gun to commit the act.

But in a 60-page judgment, Justice Yargata Nimpa said the evidence before her showed that the accused, Obinah, committed the offence and thus sentenced him to death by hanging.

76  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Photo: Woman Stopped From Boarding Flight For Dressing Indecently on: 20-06-2012 10:37PM
A woman was stopped from boarding a Las Vegas to New York flight for showing too much cleavage.Staff on US airline Southwest ruled the passenger’s open cotton dress was “inappropriate” as it exposed a large amount of her b00bs.

The woman - named only as Avital - ignored the ruling and managed to board the 6am jet, which reached its destination without issue.

She said: "I didn't want to let the representative's big feelings about my Bosom s change the way I intended to board my flight..

"And lo and behold, the plane didn't fall out of the sky...my cleavage did not interfere with the plane's ability to function properly.”

Southwest spokesperson Christi McNeill said the company offered Avital an apology and a refund "as a gesture of goodwill.”

She added: "We simply ask that our customers use good judgement and exercise discretion in deference to other customers who depend on us to provide a comfortable travel experience.”
77  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Lafia Jail Break: "Officials Tortured Two Inmates To Death, Shot One On The Leg" on: 20-06-2012 10:30PM
Two inmates of Lafia prison in Nasarawa State were tortured to death by prison officials following the demonstration that led to last month’s attempted jail break by inmates.

Daily independent also gathered that one of the inmates was shot in the leg. The inmates had last month protested lack of water and insufficient food. Counsel to the deceased persons, Usman Elegu of Elegu and Elegu Chambers, confirmed the deaths to Daily Independent in Lafia.

However, officials of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Nasarawa State Command, has refused to either confirm or deny the report, referring enquiries to the Public Relations Officer of NPS at its headquarters in Abuja.

Daily Independent, which visited the command to speak to the Comptroller, Kunle Sanusi, was denied access even though he was on seat.Secretary to the Comptroller, A.M. Adamu, ushered us in to the office of the Deputy Comptroller Administration, Oti U. B. who maintained that we must see the PRO in Abuja.

However, those that died during the torture that was carried out by prison officials in a bid to extract information from the inmates shortly after the demonstration are a 33-year-old retired soldier, Musa Aliyu, and a 30-year-old man, Godwin Francis, while 26-year-old Monday Sati was shot in the leg.

Although, Sati is still receiving treatment at the prison’s clinic, the total of those that died during the incident is three. Lawyer to the deceased persons, Usman Elegu of Elegu and Elegu Chambers, confirmed the deaths, while at the mortuary of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, family of Musa Aliyu were at hand to take possession of their ward’s corpse.

Shedding more light on the incident, he explained that two days after the demonstration and attempted jail break, prison officials beat up all the inmates and later, specially selected others for torture among them Aliyu and Francis.

He further explained that the prison officials, who beat the inmates with batons and clubs, beat Aliyu to a coma before returning him into the cell.

And to cover up for the offence, the NPS in the state allegedly wrote to all the courts in the state that it would not be bringing any of the inmates to the courts for the next one month.

Elegu told us that he knew something was amiss when he was refused entry to see his clients at the prison, adding that even though he formally wrote the officials to allow him access to his clients (Aliyu and Francis), he was denied.

The lawyer said he finally got information that Aliyu was dead a week after his death, when he gained entry into the prison that he learnt that Francis was also dead.

He noted that the family has insisted on carrying out an autopsy on the corpse. Though, the body of Aliyu has been released to his family that of Francis is still lying at the DASH mortuary.
78  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Federal Task Force Busts Air Nigeria CEO in N4.7 Billion Tax Fraud on: 20-06-2012 11:23AM
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has arrested the Managing Director of Air Nigeria, Kinfe Kayssay, for alleged failure to remit about N4.9billion tax revenues due to the Federal Government.

The arrest of Mr. Kayssay is in pursuit of the drive by the tax Service to recover over N170.I billion outstanding taxes owed government by various public and private organisations as well as ensure that all taxpayers are captured in the tax net, the tax agency says.

Last May, the chief executive officers of seven Lagos-based engineering, telecommunications, cable television, and trading conglomerates were arrested over similar offences involving tax evasion totalling N2.17billion.

Pivot Engineering Limited, an Ikeja-based power engineering subsidiary of the Honeywell Group largely owned by Oba Otudeko, was allegedly owing about N610million; UTC Nigeria Plc, a leading processor and marketer of baked goods (about N278million), and John Holt Nigeria Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading assembly conglomerate and trading companies (about N33million).

The others were HITV Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading cable television firm (N310million); Sweet Sensation Confectionery Limited, one of Nigeria’s fast food chain (N156million), Reliance Telecommunications Limited (N593million) and Entertainment Highway Limited, N196million

The arrests were as a result of the tax enforcement drive by the Debt Enforcement and Special Prosecution Unit (DESPU) of the Service aimed at recovering arrears of taxes due to government from Withholding Tax (WHT) and Value Added Tax (VAT).

Air Nigeria was also accused of failure to file its annual tax returns for 2011 as and when due, while the one for 2012 is still pending, contrary to Section 31 of the VAT Act No. 12 of 2007.

The power of packaging especially in business can never be over-emphasized. Don't be offended, this person was just trying to be unique.

He or she would have capped it with a nice and simple motto. So if I was to suggest one it would be "Pay us to fight your battle"

By the way, hope you can see the 'Mastercard and ATM available' part.

Nonsense person!lol
