| SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA: A Nigerian private college student was sentenced to death by the High Court here today for trafficking in 6.25kg of cannabis three years ago.
Ugonna Philip Nwankwo, 29, was found guilty by Justice Noor Azian Shaari, of trafficking in 4.85kg of cannabis at a bus stop near Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway at 1 pm on Nov 9, 2010 and 1.4kg of the same substance at a house in Jalan SS12/2D, Bandar Baru Subang Jaya at 3pm on the same day.
Throughout the trial, seven witnesses were called by the prosecution represented by deputy public prosecutor Aida Mastura Mohamed Aman while Nwankwo was the sole witness called by defence counsel Afifuddin Ahmad Hafifi. - Bernama

| Many Nigerians are enraged, wondering how a senator notorious for marrying a 14-year-old girl can use Shariah law as an excuse to filibuster a constitutional amendment that has sparked a debate on the age of consent for girls.
Since the country's secular and Islamic laws clashed in the upper house of Parliament last week, concerned citizens are using petitions, protests and social networks to demand the Senate revisit the issue.
"Every Nigerian should bow his or her head in shame because instead of crushing the head of the lustful beast that seeks to fornicate with our children, to steal their virtues and to destroy their future, what the Senate did the other day was to compromise with and cater for the filthy appetites and godless fantasies of a bunch of child molesters and segxwal predators," Femi Fani-Kayode, a traditional chief and former Cabinet minister, fumed in a letter to The Vanguard newspaper Monday.
The vote was on an amendment to set the age when Nigerians can renounce their citizenship, but it has wider implications because it suggests when a girl is old enough to be married.
Currently, the constitution says only that a person must be of "full age" to renounce citizenship. The Senate had voted to approve an amendment to set the age at 18, to bring the clause in line with other laws setting the age of consent for marriage and voting.
But, after the vote was counted and against Senate rules and procedures, Sen. Sani Ahmed Yerima opposed the age limit, saying it goes against Islamic law.
"By Islamic law any woman that is married, she is of age, so if you now say she is not of age then it means that you are going against Islamic law," declared Yerima.
In the second vote forced by Yerima, several Muslim senators who had voted "yes" to set the age at 18, changed their minds, and the amendment did not get the two-thirds majority needed to pass, according to Sen. Tenyi Abaribe, the Senate spokesman.
So now, a Nigerian male must be 18 to renounce his citizenship but a girl married at 14, like one of Yerima's wives, can do it at a much younger age.
The vote applied only to citizenship, Abaribe emphasized.
Nigerians are seeing it as a confrontation with other laws that dictate a girl should not marry until she is 18 and, coming from a man known for marrying children, as a gateway challenge to those laws.
"The government needs to stick with the age of consent being 18 and to work with communities in recognizing that a child is a child," said Iheoma Obibi of the Nigerian Feminist Forum.
Her forum has lodged a protest along with the Gender and Constitutional Reform Network, and other groups including advocates using the Twitter hash tag (hash)ChildNOTBride.
Nobody knows quite how many thousands of girls are forced into marriage here _ some say more than 50 percent of girls in the Muslim north _ often sold for a bride price in mainly poor and rural communities.
Yerima is infamous for his marriage to a 14-year-old Egyptian girl in 2010, when he was 49. He had divorced a 17-year-old whom he married when she was 15, to comply with Islamic law that allows a maximum of four wives at a time.
Then U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rebuked Yerima for "child slavery," and the State Department's 2012 report on human rights complained that Nigerian authorities did nothing to prosecute Yerima.
In a public outcry at the time, activists demanded that prosecutors investigate and Yerima be forced out of Parliament. Instead, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons questioned Yerima but said it lacked evidence to charge him. It said Yerima had paid $100,000 for the young bride, the daughter of his Egyptian driver.
The government agency recommended the justice minister and attorney general investigate Yerima for violating Nigeria's 2003 Child Rights Act.
"But nothing was done, he has got away with it," said women's right activist Obibi.
She pointed to the horrendous statistics that show a high percentage of young girls suffer damage in child birth, with maternity wards in the mainly Muslim north filled with young mothers whose honeypots, uteruses and anal passages have ruptured. According to the U.N. Children's Fund, Nigeria has 2 percent of the world's underage marriages but 10 percent of its victims of vesicohoneypotl fistula, which leaves the girls incontinent, dripping urine and feces.
Such girls are often divorced and abandoned, left to beg on the streets or turn to prostitution, Obibi said.
Dupe Killa, a human resources manager and mother of two girls, started an online petition at (hash)ChildNOTBride after the Senate vote. When the petition was oversubscribed within hours, she decided to take to the streets to get signatures and has won support, including from the country's influential Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness.
Protesters handed out (hash)ChildNOTBride flyers featuring the silhouette of a girl with pig tails and bows set in a protective red circle. The petition urges the Senate and National Assembly to stop "loopholes within which Nigeria can continue to discriminate against half the population (i.e. females)."
Yerima was instrumental in introducing Shariah law to Nigeria's nine northern states in 2000 and 2001, when he was governor of Zamfara state. Another three states where Muslims form a plurality have since instituted Shariah as a substitute for Western-style family law for Muslims wishing to use it. The other 25 states are governed by secular law.
Shariah is interpreted differently by scholars and laws differ according to a country's history and culture. Fani-Kayode, the former minister, said most Muslim countries have banned child marriage and rape.
Nigeria's population, at 160 million the biggest in Africa, is almost equally divided between a mainly Muslim north and majority Christian south.
While the religions coexist peacefully in most of the country, there are frequent and bloody clashes between militant Muslims and Christians in the north. Child bride, 13, dies of internal injuries four days after arranged marriage in Yemen

A 13-year-old Yemeni girl died of internal injuries four days after a family-arranged marriage to a man almost twice her age, a human rights group said.
Ilham Mahdi al Assi died last Friday in a hospital in Yemen's Hajja province, the Shaqaeq Arab Forum for Human Rights said, quoting a medical report.
She was married the previous Monday in a traditional arrangement known as a 'swap marriage', in which the brother of the bride also married the sister of the groom, it said.
Sigrid Kaag, regional director for UNICEF, said in a statement that the United Nations child agency was 'dismayed by the death of yet another child bride in Yemen'.
'Elham is a martyr of abuse of children's lives in Yemen and a clear example of what is justified by the lack of limits on the age of marriage,' SAF said in a statement.
A medical report from al-Thawra hospital said she suffered a tear to her genitals and severe bleeding.
The Yemeni rights group said the girl was married off in an agreement between two men to marry each other's sisters to avoid having to pay expensive bride-prices.
The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and drew the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages.
Legislation that would make it illegal for those under the age of 17 to marry is in serious peril after strong opposition from some of Yemen's most influential Islamic leaders.
The group said that was a common arrangement in the deeply impoverished country.
Yemen's gripping poverty plays a role in hindering efforts to stamp out the practice, as poor families find themselves unable to say no to bride-prices in the hundreds of dollars for their daughters.
More than a quarter of Yemen's females marry before age 15, according to a report last year by the Social Affairs Ministry.
Tribal custom also plays a role, including the belief that a young bride can be shaped into an obedient wife, bear more children and be kept away from temptation.
Last month, a group of the country's highest Islamic authorities declared those supporting a ban on child marriages to be apostates.
A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed and sent back to parliament's constitutional committee for review after some politicians called it un-Islamic. The committee is expected to make a final decision on the legislation this month.
Some of the clerics who signed the decree against a ban sit on the committee.
Further imperiling the effort is the weak government's reluctance to confront the clerics and other conservative tribal officials, whose support is essential to their fragile hold on power.
The issue of Yemen's child brides got widespread attention three years ago when an eight-year-old girl boldly went by herself to a courtroom and demanded a judge dissolve her marriage to a man in his 30s.
She eventually won a divorce, and legislators began looking at ways to curb the practice.
In September, a 12-year-old Yemeni child-bride died after struggling for three days in labour to give birth, a local human rights organization said.
Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.

A video posted to LiveLeak today features a profound monologue by an 11 year-old Yemeni girl whose family attempted to force her into an arranged marriage.
Nada Al-Ahdal says she fled to her uncle's house, and that people close to her have threatened to kill her if she does not get married. Arranged marriages at a young age are common in that region.
A common response, says Ahdal, is for those kids to commit suicide. "It's not [the kids'] fault. I'm not the only one. It can happen to any child."

DETAILS: The American President has only TWO aircraft, but Nigeria's President has a total of NINE (9) in his fleet and has voted money recently to buy ONE more, to make it TEN!
The British Prime Minister has only TWO official cars, Nigeria's president has 23 cars in his pool and has now voted another 300Million Naira to buy more bullet/bomb proof cars...
* Senators in the US earn about $6,000 dollars monthly and that’s about what a university professor, or a director in a state department, or a doctor with 20years experience, or a teacher with 25years experience earn too in the United States of America.
But Here in Nigeria, a Senator earns about 245 million Naira per annum! That’s the salary of 25 vice chancellors, or 50 medical doctors, or 60 directors, or 500 school teachers. How sad!
*The US, almost the size of Africa with over 300million people have 24 ministers, and 32 government parastatals and commissions.
But Nigeria has a whooping 42 cabinet ministers, and over 50 government parastatals!
*America with over 300million people and more mileage to drive consumes 39million litres of petrol daily.
But Nigeria has 150million people, out of which about 60% live in rural areas! Yet our government tells us we consume about 35million litres of petrol daily!

JMC plate number fed into the automobile surveillance system of traffic police and it revealed that it belonged to a Saudi prince.
Then, extensive investigation was launched, with the initial result that the prince was no other person than Khalid bin Sa’ad bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, who, met the girl in Wednesday evening in famous Al-Tuhayat shopping mall. The girl defied the prince.

Ifeanyi Johnpaul Aguonu, 38, was also slapped with 10 strokes of the cane for the offence he committed at the international arrival hall at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang at 10.45am on March 11, 2011.
High Court judge Justice Abdul Alim Abdullah on Thursday expressed his concern that so many Nigerians had entered the country with drugs without any fear for the law.
"Our country has a strict rule when it comes to drugs that the law provides a death penalty for drug trafficking.
"If you are convicted of a capital offence here you could have been hung from the neck until you die.
“But you've been saved from the gallows because your counsel sent a representation and the Attorney-General Chambers agreed to give you an alternative charge," said the judge prior to sentencing.

Islam is a modern version of the ancient fertility religion of the moon god. Once this is grasped, the rise and history of Islam becomes clear.
Pagan Origins:
Islam's origins have been traced back by scholars to the ancient fertility religion of the worship of the moon god which was always the dominant religion of Arabia. The moon god was worshipped by praying toward Mecca several times a day, making an annual pilgrimage to the Kabah which was a temple of the moon god, running around the Kabah seven times, caressing an idol of a black stone set in the wall of the Kabah, running between two hills, making animal sacrifices, gathering on Fridays for prayers, giving alms to the poor, etc.. These were pagan rites practiced by the Arabs long before Muhammad was born.
What religion today practices the pagan rites of the moon god? Islam! This explains why the crescent moon is the symbol of Islam. It is placed on top of mosques and minarets and displayed on hats, flags, rugs, amulets and even jewelry. Every time you see the Muslim symbol of a crescent moon, you are seeing the ancient symbol of the moon god.

The Christian Trinity is the Father, Mother, and Son:

It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden ? (Qur'an 5:116).
God is not three in one:
"O people of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which he conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit [sic.] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers and say not 'Three' - Cease! (it is better for you! - Allah is only one God. Far is it removed from His transcendent majesty that He should have a son...The Messiah will never scorn to be a slave unto Allah." (Quran [004.171])
They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them. (Quran [005.073]) .
Jesus Christ is just a messenger of Allah and Mohammed:
"Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One (Ahmad). But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!" (Quran [061.006])

| | The Quran, in reality, is a book of an imperfect scripture, allegedly sayings of God, filled with errors, contradictions, stupidities, historical inaccuracies. The contents of the Quran are also not arranged according to importance, continuity, sacredness, biography, chronology, significance or sequence of any sorts, but simply by length: the longest chapter, followed by the next longest. The Verses are disorderly arranged and jumbled up in unrelated subjects/topics. The Quran has no prophecy, no chronology, no geography, no biography of anybody (except bits & pieces of Muhammad’s), no ministry, no history, no proverbs, no parables, no miracles, no psalms, no sequence of any sort. It's generally a manual of dos and don'ts, like an instruction manual of a vacuum cleaner, with punitive punishments, reprisals and rewards specified in it. The Quran is, undoubtedly, not a book created by an intelligent being, and is unfit for the intelligent and rational thinking persons. This book fraught with lack of fraud, stupidity and logic and reason which makes it a complete lie.
So as believers, Muslims have no right to think independently about their own affairs, because al-Ilah and his messenger have already done the thinking for them. All that Muslims are required to do is just to obey (like sheep) to al-Ilah’s words as in the Quran, and becoming totally obedient morons. If these Muslims do not obey and follow all the commands, they will be considered by al-Ilah as "rebellious" and face consequences. In the same verse, al-Ilah also demands Muslims to obey his human messenger, Muhammad (giving equal status with al-Ilah???). No other religion on earth demands from its followers such absolute and unconditional obedience to a human messenger and his puppet god. This defies all logic. Why shouldn’t Muslims use their God-given brains for independent, rational thinking into their own affairs?
Islam is like a magician: once he put an illusory spell over his audience, he has complete control of everything he wants people to believe and do! By taking control of Muslims mind, and making them force Islam on those not in controls, Islam deprives Muslims from questioning and leaving Islam, even if one wishes so? Either you believe and behave, or you will be forced by true believers to conform; thus Islam keeps an absolute grip on the community. Almost everything in Islamic community is forced upon against the will and rational thinking of the individual: there's no choice of one's own.
Islam is sure a trap with no way out. If a Muslim tries to get out, he/she will be killed as an apostate (Surah 4:89). This is why Muslims dare not criticize Muslims, who commit violence, murder, bombings, etc? With no rational thinking allowed, Islam has proved itself to be a bloody murderous trap! Is this from God? Will God(s) ever be so merciless and have narcissist thinking? Or this may be just a plain fake religion?
