42  Forum / The Buzz Central / FULL LIST: THE MOST POWERFUL CELEBRITIES IN THE WORLD!! on: 26-06-2013 04:22 PM
Forbes has released its annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities, with Oprah Winfrey getting back on top after two years as the runner-up. This is Oprah’s fifth time in the No. 1 spot.

The metric used to determine the list is a mix of money made, press mentions and social media power, which definitely explains why Justin Bieber made the Top 10 (he’s No. 9). The Forbes’ “marketability” score attempts to quantify the celebrities’ popularity and fame, based on polling of 46 different attributes for over 6,000 famous faces.

The Top 10 is as follows:

3. Steven Spielberg
4. Beyonce
5. Madonna
6. Taylor Swift

50  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Ladies: Why You Must Stop Wearing Tight Panties on: 11-05-2013 03:39 PM
For women, it is almost a must to wear panties. While some go for loose panties, a large number go for tight-fitting ones just to give a s^x appeal!

If only they knew that tight undergarments pose a danger to one’s health. Some studies have shown that tight briefs in particular are actually harmful to the human body. Tight panties? Dangerous to health. How?
First, tight briefs disrupt the lymphatic system, which removes wastes and toxins from the entire body, and causes wastes and toxins not to be properly removed from the body. This is dangerous!
A potential con of wearing tight underwear, especially for women, is the increased likelihood of developing yeast infection or urinary tract infection. How does this come about? Just wear tight panties and you will discover that your v**ina does not breathe well. So, it is better to choose a size that follows your body’s contours perfectly, but not tight.

To ensure the health of the private parts, doctors typically recommend wearing breathable, somewhat loose undergarments that absorb moisture well.

Tight panties are less than ideal for sweat-inducing activities such as exercising or hiking. In addition to fostering an unpleasant odour, trapping sweat near your skin increases your risk of yeast infections and blistering along the pant seams.

When riding on a stationary bike or sitting on a weight bench, for example, it becomes difficult and risky when your panties glides off the surface designated for sitting. Even structures not intended for athletics, such as a plastic subway seat or a smooth park bench, become potential hazard against the friction-lacking texture of tight undergarments.

The other problem associated with women wearing tight panties is the irritating effect of the tight material against the skin. When a woman walks around all day wearing tight panties, the material rubs against the urethra and outer honeypotl area creating areas of irritation and even small tears. These irritated areas can also be set-ups for infection. This can be a particular problem for women who are prone to honeypotl or urinary tract infections.

According to health.com honeypotl and urinary tract infections are not the only problem associated with wearing the wrong size of pants, they can irritate hemorrhoids and even cause an*l lacerations. Even more risky is wearing it in hot weather. Sweating combined with the close contact of the material against the skin, creates the perfect environment for a honeypotl yeast infection.

After removing your undergarments, do you observe red marks? If so, chances are, your undergarments are too tight for you, and really should be changed. Dump them out like last year’s new clothes, and find undergarments, which will hug you, and fit on properly instead of giving a tightening effect.

The less they are worn the better, but if you cannot wean them completely from your underwear drawer, at least wear them in moderation, bearing in mind that a urinary tract or yeast infection is not very sexy.

51  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Top 9 Benefits Of Being Single on: 11-05-2013 03:34 PM
Society, the TV and the film industry have ingrained in us that being single leads to unhappiness, while a relationship always makes us happy. Well, we are here to prove, that is not the case. A young girl or boy for that matter can enjoy their singleton while it exists. So, here are the benefits of being single.

1. You can enjoy your independence

Being independent means you can do anything you want, whenever you want. Freedom is a totally refreshing experience and you can revel in its glory. If you want to go out with your friends, you can decide it in the evening and head out for a great night. You can be at home in whatever clothes you want, without ever worrying about someone telling you off.

2. You get to control your money

No more spending half your money on dates, dinners, movies. Yeah, we know it’s the guys who spend most of the time. But being a modern girl, you can’t keep your purse zipped tight every time you go out, right? Plus, you have to get gifts for your boyfriend on all special occasions. That requires money. If you’re single, you won’t have to spend money unnecessarily.

3. You can manage your weight

By this we mean, you can go around flaunting your size zero figure or get a bit plumper and no one will care. You can eat as little or as much as you want. If you always wanted to put on some weight because you were too skinny, it’s time to do that when you’re single.

4. You don’t need to tolerate irritating habits

Everyone has their own weird habits, that others may find too annoying. For example, the ever-increasing pile of dishes in the sink or clothes lying around everywhere in the house. Most guys are known for these irritating habits. But when you’re single, you don’t have to endure any of these habits.

5. You can be emotionally calm

A relationship can never come in a stable boat; it will always have strifes and tribulations. Moreover, you always have that tension of a breakup. But being single, you can be emotionally calm and relaxed.

6. You learn to discover yourself

When you are in a relationship, you tend to do things that your partner likes or prefers. In the long run, you forget what’s important to you and what were your likes and preferences. You can also term it as a kind of molding that you’re held into. When you’re single, you can realize your dreams, fulfill your wishes and learn to discover your inner self.

7. You can be dedicated towards college/work

You might be dedicated towards your college/work otherwise too. But it so happens that, in a relationship you don’t get to give as much time to your college/work as you would like to. You have prior commitments towards your boyfriend and college/work usually gets laid back.

8. You don’t need to plan everything

You can make decisions at the drop of a hat. You don’t have to think about anything that you committed to your boyfriend earlier. If you want to head out for a road trip, you surely can, without having to cancel prior plans with your boyfriend and similar things.

9. You don’t have anyone to hold you back

Sometimes when you are in a relationship, you don’t get to do what you want. Your boyfriend may stop you from going to certain places or with a certain someone. For instance, if you have many guy friends and your boyfriend is of the jealous type, then he may not let you go for a weekend trip with your friends even if there are girls in the group. You’re saved of all this torture when you’re single.

52  Forum / Relationships & Romance / 6 Signs Your Marriage Will End In Divorce [EXPERT] on: 11-05-2013 03:27 PM
Is your marriage on the fast track to divorce? Find out!

Maintaining a marriage requires intentionality. Just like other relationships, if your marriage doesn’t receive the necessary time and attention, it will deteriorate.

Couples tend to enter marriages with great expectations, bringing both their own histories of hurt and unmet needs. The unspoken expectation that your partner will finally love you the way you desire to be loved is often a setup for failure.

Apathy and contempt in a marriage are warning signs that your marriage needs your attention, and the number one predictor of divorce is conflict avoidance. So, if you and your partner avoid conflict and lack the skills of conflict resolution, your marriage may be in jeopardy.

Dr. John Gottman, marriage & family therapist and leading researcher on marriage, has conducted studies over the span of 40 years to determine the predictors of divorce. His studies showed that these six characteristics of communication predict the likelihood of divorce with 91% accuracy.

If the dynamics in your marriage fit these patterns, your chance of divorce is great:

1. Harsh start-ups. Approaching a conversation or conflict with sarcasm, accusations, criticism or derogatory comments is dangerous for a marriage. Initiating a conversation harshly, will likely result in an acrimonious ending without resolution.

2. The four horsemen. Gottman identifies these as contempt, criticism, defensiveness and stonewalling.  His research shows a correlation between these characteristics of communication with your spouse drastically increase likelihood to divorce.

3. Flooding. You and/or your spouse overwhelm each other with negativity that causes an emotional shut-down and detachment from your relationship. When you or your partner suddenly barrages the other with criticism or contempt, leaving the other feeling shell shocked, this results in disengagement and often, over time, leads to contempt.

4. Body language. When one or both partners become overwhelmed and flooded, it results in physiological changes in the body. Increased heart rate, a secretion of adrenaline and an increase in blood pressure occur and these physiological responses preclude the ability to effectively resolve conflict. Flooding triggers a fight or flight response, resulting in disengagement and/or stonewalling by your partner.

5. Failed attempts to repair. If conflict is not resolved or stonewalled by one partner, the likelihood of divorce increases. Conflict resolution is imperative in maintaining a healthy relationship. Stonewalling is the lack of willingness to engage in conversation and resolution around a conflict.

6. Bad memories. Couples who get stuck viewing their relationship through a negative lens end up rewriting history that is often distorted. This extreme negative outlook impacts the historical, present and future perception of the relationship and contributes to the demise of a marriage.

Dick Schwartz, another leading Marriage and Family Therapist, and Founder of the Center For Self Leadership and Internal Family Systems, writes in his book You Are The One You’ve Been Waiting For that marriage is often a set-up for failure from the start because of the expectation that your mate will be your “redeemer” and fulfill all your unmet needs. This expectation will inevitably result in disappointment and discord.

No partner can fulfill and redeem another. One must first learn how to lead from the self so he/she is able to connect with his/her own natural ability for caring, compassion and courage. By identifying and working with your own hurting parts, learning their story and the emotions and beliefs they hold, you are able to connect with your self and become more “self-lead.”

The ability to be in “self leadership” will allow you to avoid the expectation of your partner to fulfill your unmet needs and therefore remove the constant let down you experience when your partner doesn’t. In turn, this will set the stage for resolving conflict in such a way that each partner feels heard and understood.

54  Forum / The Buzz Central / 4 Reasons Kim Kardashian Will Be a Great Mom! on: 11-05-2013 03:11 PM
As many viewers tuned into ’Kourtney and Kim Take Miami ’ last season, it did not seem as ifKim Kardashian had a desire to be a mother…EVER. In fact, she would often lash out at older sister, Kourtney Kardashian, for her obsessive and annoying motherly ways. However, soon into the season, fans found out that poor Kim was fearful that, much like her sister, Khloe Kardashian , that she would have trouble conceiving a child. Now that Kim is preggo with Kanye’s baby, while some may not think she will be the best mom, motherhood has transformed some celebrities for better and for worse. Here are 4 reasons why Kim will make a good mom!

1. She grew up in a large family with many siblings.

Being the second oldest of the Kardashian/Jenner bunch, Kim is no stranger to babies being around. She has watched her mother raise four children (Khloe, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie). While she may not have been thinking of motherhood during this time, she hopefully picked up some motherly instincts. For the baby’s sake, let us hope these instincts are pre Kris Jennerbeing the family’s momager.

2.

She has Kourtney to look up to as an example.

With two cute kids, Mason and Penelope, under her belt, Kourt has shown some wonderful mothering skills (as far as we can see on reality television). She truly appears to care and finds it important take the time to nurture and pay attention to her children. Although, she often makes her children a priority over her romantic relationship and many other social relationships. After watching Kourt make a few mistakes as a new mother, hopefully Kim will be able to learn from her sister’s mistakes and strike a nice balance in her life between baby, love and family.

3. She has experience babysitting and living with babies/children.

While in Miami, Kim has been able to closely watch Mason and Penelope grow. At times, she has been a care provider for her niece and nephew when their mom and dad are unavailable because of work or more dramatic personal endeavors. The quality time spent with Mason and Penelope will help give this celeb the head start that she needs and some inside insight into the mothering world.

4. She has enough money to support the baby’s needs, present and future.

We all know that money is not everything, but it certainly helps! Kim will be able to afford a top-notch education and many other over-the-top experiences for her little bundle of joy. However, let us hope that Kim’s desire to make money and her busy schedule do not lead her to rely too much on using her fortune for an expensive, full-time nanny!

Clearly, only time will tell whether Kim becomes a good mom and whether Kanye West becomes a good father figure. Love it or hate it, this is just one perspective, and the baby is happening whether you feel it is a monstrous event or a blessing. Feel free to chime in as to whether you think Kim will make a good mommy or whether it will all be drama!
