The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, has arraigned Abayomi Samuel Onajala and Adewunmi Yetunde Iyabo before Justice L. P. Lifu of the Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

One of the counts reads: “That you,
Abayomi Samuel Onajala and Adewunmi Yetunde Iyabo (Ayo George and Tunde Benjamin both at large) on or about March 25, 2018 at Ile-Ife within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to directly take possession of money, from United States of America, which to your knowledge were proceeds of unlawful act to wit: Money Laundering and thereby committed an offence...”

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, informed the court that his witnesses were in court and that he was ready to proceed with the trial.

However, counsel for the first defendant, A.A. Bayo, told the court that he was not ready for trial because “the extra-judicial statement in the proof of evidence is not clear and therefore needs a clearer copy”.

He thereafter moved his application praying the court to grant the first defendant bail. Counsel for the second defendant, Joseph Adeoye also aligned himself with Bayo.

Justice Lifu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million and two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a civil servant not below grade level 14 and the other surety must be a land owner within Osogbo, Osun State.

The case has been adjourned to February 15, 2019 for trial and the defendants ordered to be remanded in Ilesa Prison pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
2  Forum / Law and Crime / How Innocent Man Was Killed After Being Labelled A Kidnapper on: 7-02-2019 06:06AM
Sad story of how a man met his untimely end at the hands of angry villagers in Umuoji area of Anambra state.

The deceased identified as Paschal Chinazor Onyilo, who was a sound/music operator and even worked for the Anambra government, was wrongly labelled a kidnapper and beaten to pulp before he finally gave up the ghost.

It was gathered that last week, Paschal Onyilo, a native of Abatete in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, was driving to Obosi area to set up his sound equipment for an event.

However on getting to Umuoji, some school children threw stones at his vehicle and caused some damage. He then alighted from the vehicle to accost the kids over the damage. All of them ran away except one boy who was caught by Paschal.

It was learnt that Paschal held the boy and requested that he should take him to his parents as he drove him in his car.

Meanwhile the other children who had escaped – raised an alarm that a certain man had ‘kidnapped’ one of them.

The villagers quickly mobilized themselves, came back and confronted Paschal. They didn’t give him a chance to explain himself and pounced on him immediately, beating mercilessly. His car was also set on fire before he was rescued by the police.

The villagers who saw some political stickers in his car – accused him of being a kidnapper who works for politicians in the state and was looking for children to use for rituals.

By the time help came, Paschal was already unconscious and he was taken to Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi. He was alive after an emergency surgery and was able to narrate what happened to the police and others that visited him in hospital.
