The Brazil midfielder, Fernando, will not underestimate the Premier League's bottom club as the former Lyon boss prepares for his return to the English top flight as a coach

Manchester City midfielder Fernando expects to face a fired-up Aston Villa as Remi Garde takes charge of the Premier League's bottom side for the first time.

Aston Villa     -        Manchester City

Leaders City enter the Villa Park clash in high spirits having extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight matches with an impressive 3-1 win over Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Fernando, who struggled during his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium but has earned plaudits for his performances so far this season, was a key factor in City's newly designed three-man midfield.

And the Brazilian believes similar application will be required against Villa despite their disastrous start, with Garde taking over a side winless in the league since their 1-0 opening-day triumph at Bournemouth.

"Every game in the Premier League is a tough one," Fernando told City's official website.

"Although Aston Villa are at the bottom of the table, we know they are a team that play hard and are capable of playing very well.

"They are aggressive, they have a new manager, but we have to be focused in order to earn another three points.

"Based on the players they have, we know it will be a hard match and I am sure they will cause us problems, but we are aiming to play the way we know we can and win the game."

The Gunners' injury absences are worrying the French boss ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against their North London rivals

Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal's growing injury list is becoming a major concern ahead of the north London derby against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal       -        Tottenham

The Gunners suffered a dreadful 5-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, but sit level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal have a string of first-team players - Hector Bellerin (groin), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring), Theo Walcott (calf), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Jack Wilshere (ankle), Tomas Rosicky (knee) and Danny Welbeck (knee) – currently out of action.

Laurent Koscielny (hip) and Mikel Arteta (foot) will undergo late fitness tests to see if they can be fit to face Spurs, leaving Wenger worried ahead of a crucial period of the season.

"I am very concerned because we are only in November and we have so many players out," said Wenger.

"We go into the Christmas period and I am concerned because we have too many out. I give Koscielny 80 per cent chance [to play Spurs]. He will have a test Saturday morning, so will Mikel Arteta."

Wenger feels it is still premature to properly judge whether his side can win the league, but is happy to be in a position of strength after 11 games.

He added: "It is too early to say [if Arsenal can win the title]. We want to be in the fight and I believe we can but it is too early.

The defender wants his side to score early against Tony Pulis' men but admits the Baggies are a tough team to break down

Chris Smalling wants Manchester United to prove their attacking prowess against West Brom at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United          v          West Brom
                                                                                          15:00 • Old Trafford, Manchester
                                                                                                        Referee: M. Dean

Louis van Gaal's side have scored just twice in their last five games in all competitions, with their previous two Premier League outings against Manchester City and Crystal Palace ending goalless.

As Van Gaal has been quick to point out, United have made progress in defence - keeping more clean sheets (7) than any other team in the league this season - but are lacking a cutting edge at the opposite end of the pitch.

Considering Tony Pulis' West Brom side have not conceded in four of their five Premier League away matches in 2015-16, United could be set for another disappointing afternoon.

And while Smalling acknowledges it will be difficult to break Albion down, he still feels United have the creative players needed to make an impact in the final third.

"Tony Pulis has made them very solid and they don't concede many goals, so we're going to have to break them down," he told the club's official website.

"If we can get an early goal, I think you may see the floodgates open."

The Portuguese coach hopes his stadium ban will inspire his players to victory at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League this weekend

Chelsea travel to Stoke City on Saturday without banned manager Jose Mourinho, who hopes his absence will not prevent the players from picking up a much-needed victory.

Stoke City         v             Chelsea
                                                              17:30 • Britannia Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
                                                                                        Referee: A. Taylor

The Premier League champions had a crucial win in Europe against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday to lighten the mood around Stamford Bridge, but that does not help their precarious predicament domestically.

Chelsea sit 15th in the table with just 11 points from as many outings and are already well off the pace of joint-leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.

Six league defeats already matches Mourinho's worst return in his career and Chelsea face a trip to the Britannia Stadium, having already faltered there in last week's League Cup penalty-shootout elimination.

As Mourinho serves a one-game stadium ban after being dismissed at West Ham recently, the Portuguese hopes his players can motivate themselves out of his presence.

"I think they will know I am with them," he said, when asked how his squad might cope.

"They know I am going to prepare the team until the moment they go to the game.

The Brazilian, signed from Porto ahead of the 2014-15 season, has been tipped to help his side achieve their European ambitions by his midfield team-mate.

Sevilla     -        Manchester City

Fernandinho believes his midfield alliance with Fernando could help Manchester City to become more consistent performers in Europe ahead of their crunch Group D trip to Sevilla.

Manuel Pellegrini's team secured a last-gasp 2-1 win over their Liga opponents in Manchester last time out, with Kevin De Bruyne firing a stoppage-time winner.

Another victory would secure City's progress to the knockout stages with two matches to spare if leaders Juventus also win at Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday, although the Premier League leaders have once again failed to replicate their dominant domestic form on the European stage.

Pellegrini's commitment to an expansive style is often cited as a vulnerability, with City's midfield leaving their defence exposed too often against high-class opposition - a weakness Sevilla failed to fully exploit at the Etihad Stadium.

The Red Devils have not impressed in front of goal recently, and the Dutch manager wants the side to improve ahead of the visit of Russian side

Louis van Gaal wants Manchester United to use Tuesday's home Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow as a turning point for their season.

Manchester United        -    CSKA Moscow

United secured a 1-1 draw in Russia thanks to Anthony Martial's header in their most recent European outing on October 21 but have since recorded three 0-0 draws in a row, results which have seen them lose ground to Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table and exit the League Cup on penalties to Middlesbrough.

With his side again struggling in attack in a stalemate with Crystal Palace on Saturday, Van Gaal wants to see a reaction when the Russian Premier League leaders visit Old Trafford.

"When I see their characters, I don't think they have doubts about that quality," Van Gaal said of his attacking players. "It can change in one match - let that be CSKA, because we need victory.

"I have to hope we score against Moscow again because then we are talking in a different way."

CSKA, meanwhile, secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ufa on Saturday to equal the Russian top-flight record of 36 points from 14 matches.

Nigeria international Ahmed Musa is himself looking to end a three-game goal drought and, with only goal difference currently separating his side and United in Group B, he hopes to do so this week.

"They have top-quality players who can make life difficult for you at any moment," Navas said in an interview with UEFA.

"We all want to win the Champions League, it's one of our goals.

No fewer than 54 prostitutes alongside 58 men were on today arrested by police during a raid in a popular brothel called ‘Flour mill’ in the Calabar metropolis. The operation which was carried out by detectives from the Cross River State police command, was led by Governor Ben Ayade’s security adviser (SSA), Mr. Jude Ngaji.

Briefing newsmen after the operation, Ngaji said the brothel which used to be a hotel has now become a notorious place for commercial sex workers in Calabar.

He explained that the brothel poses a security threat in the State, adding that it now serves as a breeding ground for criminal activities. According to Ngaji, the brothel has become a hideout for criminals as well hard drug merchants in the State.

“Given the tourism status of Cross River, Gov. Ayade frowns on this despicable act where under aged girls are engaged in prostitution. He has therefore vowed to take drastic and decisive measures to stem the ugly trend. He has directed that the place be raided and shut down forthwith. Consequently, the governor has warned that other persons or groups involved in this unwholesome practice should in their own interest desist henceforth or face the wrath of the law”, he said.

The SSA, who advised teenage girls to always engage themselves in meaningful activities, said Nigeria does not have any law that legalizes prostitution. ``Each time you pass here at night, you find under-aged girls of about 13 and 14 years standing by and waiting for men.

This place has become an area of concern to the State and Cross Riverians. This place has become a Sodom and Gomorrah in Cross River and the raid was carried out to stop prostitution and criminality in the state. All the girls that were caught here are prostitutes and some of them were caught in a compromising position. No law legalizes prostitution in Nigeria. The girls would be tried in court and we will ensure that they are returned back to their respective states’’, he added.

Serena Williams hung out with Drake's Mom during his restaurant opening in Canada. Here's how TMZ is reporting it.
'Big step for Serena and Drake ... the tennis star jetted up to Canada for the opening of Drake's restaurant Monday night -- and hung out with the rapper's mother!! Drake was in Toronto to launch his new eatery Fring's ("I got onion rings, gotta lotta onion rings") ... along with the two ladies in his life. Serena looked smokin' hot -- high heels and a pencil skirt -- and according to people inside, there was the usual restaurant PDA with Drake.

Unclear how much time Serena spent with Drake's mom -- but we're told the music was so loud inside, it would have been tough to have that "So, you're dating my son" conversation anyway.
As for Drake, he posted a pic from inside the restaurant with his mom ... calling her his "one and only." No word if Drake's dad showed up -- after we spoke with him last time, seems he was also waiting for some quality time with his son's new boo.'
